Blocking numbers on Z1 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking for an option to block certain numbers from calling like every android device seem to have, but I find none. Did they actually take their time to remove this feature?

I am not sure if it was there in the first place, but there are tons of apps in the play store that does this, the one I used to use is
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.baole.app.blacklist&hl=en
but now I use tasker which does alot more than this, it actually made me use it instead of over 10 apps, saving me storage an RAM

Tried one of those blocker apps and I don't like them cause the phone still rings once before the app hangs up for you.
With the standard android blocker which Sony seems to have taken an effort to remove, it won't even show up as a call.

I feel your pain

Feeling your pain dude. They did go through the trouble to remove that awesome and important feature. I hate them for it. None of the reps even know it use to exist. I for one used the feature all the time. It erased all information about the contact when blocked it was great. Bump ad! Sony give us our feature back!

Yeah interesting, this option was available on my Xperia Z, definately can't find it now, just to send the contact to voice mail.

There is a good blacklist module available for Xposed framework.

Phonebook App by Voxmobili Onmobile

Phonebook
Voxmobili - Onmobile
Contacts are among the most important data on your phone. Phonebook gives them the place they deserve on your G1 phone.
Phonebook comes with a new user interface, a landscape view, a dialer and an activity log which centralizes calls and messages.
Your contacts stay on your phone, they are not sent to any remote servers.
Check it out in the market it looks good
more updates will be coming
The only thing that I wish it had was the ability to view all display groups. All you have to choose from is all or contacts with numbers. I would like to have MyContacts in the list, but other than that it is a slick app.
I actually almost love Phonebook... but it's SO FREAKING SLOW. Omg. I love that you can show contact images in the list, but my jebus, it takes like 5 minutes for my contacts to finish listing, and the scrolling is horrid if you have a lot of contacts. (I guess my 60 contacts are a lot for this app...)
I have it installed though, just so I'll know if it (ever) gets an update.

The exact same reason I uninstalled it.
Yup...was really slow... BUT it seems like the new update has addressed the speed issue somewhat. I haven't used it much since the update, but it did crash once.
seems to work fine, is ther away to go straight into 'phonebook' by pressing the green button? or does that go to g1 phonebook no matter wat.
One thing that I didn't like was that it seemed like it didn't share information with the stock contact list. I recall adding photos and updating numbers and e-mail addresses in it and it wasn't synced with my gmail contacts. Screw that, that's a big reason why I have a freakin' google phone.
Can anyone confirm or refute this?
did u add/edit after you u installed phonebook? when i installed phonebook it automatically synced all my contacts/pictures/information to phonebook.
i still have no idea how to set it as the default phonebook.. help

Great App! Very slick interface but having the ability to sort through your various Google groups would be killer! I have over 1000 work contacts which gets in the way when I am trying to quickly look up a friend's number. I know it's free and I am VERY grateful , just thought I would give some constructive feedback! Thanks!
anybody how to make this the default so that when I press the call button PHONEBOOK APP pops up and not G1 phonebook?
the dev said thats not an option yet, once its more stable he will add the default app option
i have been using it for a while now....when it origionally launched it was very choppy and kept it installed so i knew when it was updated.....now the new version is awesome....cant wait for some grouping features and the ability to make this my default PB hurry hurry LOL
i think this phonebook app drains battery alot.
Not available in my market, either because I'm using an ADP1 phone or because I'm in the wrong region/country. To be honest this crap is starting to piss me off. Every passing week I find that more and more apps, including free ones, are unavailable to me for God knows what reason. Even Apple's walled garden approach is better than this seemingly arbitrary crap. *sigh*

Yeah, I guess so. It sucks a$$, because there's no way I'll ever bow down and put a T-Mo image on my dev phone. I'd rather turn to piracy than to shame myself like that

Call Firewall

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading from a Tmobile Dash to a G1 but need to know if there is a program on the Android platform similar to the CallFirewall program on Windows where it will take an incoming call and sends it directly to voicemail if on the blacklist. It's actually a deal breaker for me as I love the flexible whitelist / blacklist options on CallFirewall.
Thanks!
How does that functionality built into the os tickle your fancy?
In every contact entry there's a checkbox that says "send calls to voicemail" it makes it so your phone doesn't ring or show the call, the missed call is in the log but no notification... and best yet to the person on the phone its as if you haven't done a thing... rings all the way to VM

Yes, its by bratag =] requires root access, so root your phone before downloading.
What does that mean? Root your phone?
Also, could someone tell me how many contacts the phone will hold?
I'm leaning toward getting one.

Android is linux based and the super user account is called 'root', there is various ways to root android phones and you can even buy an ADP (Android Developer Phone) which comes by default with super user access enabled.

Android (not just G1) uses SQLite to store information and depending on ram etc it's for all intents and purpose limitless.
Cool, thanks about the contacts.
Still not sure what the root thing means, but with a built in call blocker I guess it doesn't really matter

is there an app that lets you receive just the calls from a whitelist and block all other?
Check this out

I also can't find bratag's call blocker on the market anymore. Does anyone still have a copy of the app?

[Q] Ignore Calls by Sending Text

The stock Hero dialer/phone allows you to send a pre-determined text message to a caller when you hit the menu button as a call comes in. Is there ANY app in the Market or apk file we can pull from the stock rom to have this feature in CM6?
This feature came in handy quite often.
Bump to the top (or should this be in the apps section)?
Have you tried Dindy? (Can't post a link because I'm a new member but it is in the Market, or search App Brain for it)
I haven't tried it but it seems to have a lot of features and is much cheaper than Advanced Call Manager.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I am actually looking for the ability to send a text manually - like the stock HTC phone program. I want to choose wether to accept, send to voicemail, or text reply to the call.
w00t!
Just found SMS Receptionist in the Market for 99cents that does exactly what I'm looking for. If anyone knows of a free app, please share!
Dunno if these are exactly what you're looking for, but they're both free to try out
SwiftReply Free and SwiftReply Lite relatively the same name but they're made by two different people

I actually tried the Free version, but it didn't actually work. No option ever popped up for me to decline and send a text. And when I set it to automatically send, it never sent anything at all. The lite version only has the auto feature which declines all calls (not what i'm looking for).
Thanks though
This is a free app that does something like what you want, I think.

If I want to port it manually, which apk am I looking at? Does I have to include any lib files?

You also forgot to check if you can actually install it from the play store.
Which you can't. The play store link for the app will only allow you to install it on ASUS devices.
Unable to activate it
Thanks Guys!!
I got the .apk after some googling and able to install it . But there is no option to activate it.
Whenever I try to make a call, the default in-call screen is showing up.

There is no "wild guess". You won't be able to run this app on your phone without serious hacking. It's not in the Play Store so you can easily install it on another device. It's in the Play Store so that Asus can directly update it as a system app through the store instead of forcing people to wait for OTA updates to update one specific app. HTC does this, Sony does this, Samsung does this. I'm not sure how you attained the "Recognized Contributor" status without knowing this? It's kind of a popular OEM feature of the Play Store these days.
You're not going to get that in-call screen unless a developer is seriously interested in it. It probably has all sorts of framework hooks that are specific to the stock Asus ROM. It's like asking a dev to port over a component of HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwiz over to AOSP. It's just not going to happen. I'd stop looking for it.
Additionally, it's pretty hard to modify the in-call screen like that with an app. The best you can really do are apps that overlay themselves on top of the dialer, which is really hack-y and not a clean way of doing it.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me. So thanks again and this is why I love this Forum!
