clockworkmod wont format data keeps rebooting - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i have been playing around with my phone, it was working fine but i had issues with android revolution hd, so i forget what i did and i am currently on clockwork mod touch v6.0.3.1 (i tried 6.0.3.6). it usually says:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
before this happened i tried to flash a couple roms and they all failed and i went into either a recovery loop, in which it kept booting into recovery or a htc logo boot loop. I have flash twrp recovery also to try if that would help and it didn't. i have pushed the roms using adb and used fastboot to clear cache and flash the recoveries. i am pretty much stuck, i don't know what to do. I can't find a bell version of the RUU to install, i found a nandroid backup but it never seems to finish downloading properly from htc1guru.com so what do i do know?
Thanks for any help

the above is normal, it's because of the "fastboot erase cache" -> hence no cache to mount
but I didnt get the second part; you're not able to enter recovery or are you not able to flash ROM?

i erased cache and it still gives me the same issue. I also tried fastboot boot twrp.img, but that popped up the loading screen of twrp and then rebooted. also tried the same command with clockworkmod and it booted into recovery but it still can't mount the cache. Also i flashed twrp but it wont boot, also it has s-on, 1.44, tampered and unlocked

It's not an error, when you wipe the cache it won't be mounted in recovery.
Recovery will work fine without a mounted cache.

i erased the cache booted right into clockworkmod and used adb to sideload a rom, right as it mounts the data and gets ready to install the phone restarts. could my memory be corrupted or messed up?

1- why don't you try to push the ROM "adb push Rom.zip /sdcard/"
2- make sure your download is not corrupted by checking MD5
3- if you don't mind wiping your internal storage, go ahead and format it in recovery (format /sdcard or format /data/media)

i tried that and it gave me error:closed. i did it in recovery in adb sideload in clockworkmod.
I dont care about wiping, since i have everything backed up, i have formatted the sd card and the data twice, i did it before installing android revolution hd and then after when i was trying to install my other rom but after i formatted it again, it stopped working. I try to mount the sd card in clockworkmod and all it does is reboot the phone, that also happens when i hit format sd card. It can't mount it for some reason. then it just goes into a htc boot logo loop. thanks for the help guys...more please more

I just had the same issue as you and I tried almost everything! I have just figured out how to solve the problem.
First I installed an earlier version of CWM, in my case recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.4-m7.img
Then I went to install the ROM that was working BEFORE I installed the ROm which totally crashed my cache partition, in my case Android Revolution HD
When I got into AROMA, I unchecked EVERYTHING the only thing I checked was the XPOSED Framework, which I remembered I installed last time
The installation finished and the phone rebooted twice before getting into the boot and finally into the ROM
I don't know what our issue is caused by and after reading two hours on the internet I also figured out that people is solving this problem in different ways and no solution works 100% which makes this issue very weird :/
Hope it helps! Good luck!

[bricked?] can not mount cache

hi, I have a huge problem with my LG2x. I have tried to install the HorsePower Kernel. After the installation, the phone was not able to mount the internal SD Card, so I have tried to format it. After this, I have restarted the phone, but the phone just started into the clockworkmod and printed out
E: Can´t mount cache/recovery/command
E: Can´t mount cache/recovery/log
E: Can´t open cache/recovery/log
E: Can´t mount cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can´t open cache/recovery/last_log
I tried to wipe several times and i also tried to flash CM7 and the kernel again.
Another Big Problem is, that I can´t get the phone in the download mode (press volume down, while plugin in the USB)
I have no idea what to do, seems like i have bricked my phone? Or has anyone an idea??
You have totally bricked your phone.
Nah just kidding, search for nvflash for lg optimus 2x and you should find a guide.
Though nvflash will wipe everything and bring it back to stock.

Its a bug in touch recovery, use another version
The problem with cache happened to me with other kernel. The easy solution was to restore a backup from recovery. If you have a backup is easy to solve.
Regards!
Or use adb shell to "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2" and you should be able to boot into cwm again. restore only your cache image by doing an advanced restore, or just format the /cache properly from cwm.
The best solution is as Supupa said. Nvflash. i also bricked mine when i tried to install CM7 long ago. you can find some video tutorials on youtube. very useful since its better to see how it`s done than reading.Just search "nvflash optimus 2x" or g2x if you have the US version from T-mobile.

Soft-bricked my phone? FIXED

EDIT4: Well I had to NVFlash my phone and flash the LG stock rom, and it worked, but I lost all my data, o well I'm so happy now
It all begins when I first flashed CM7.1 stable for the first time, I had initial problems with the browser not downloading files to my internal sdcard, but I think I fixed that by editing vold.fstab and build.prop files following some guide I found on the internet. Everything was good but I was unable to flash vorkkernel because when I did, It would not boot. To fix that I recovered a back up, I think:cyclops:? months went by and I was happy with my CM7.1, but I still wanted vorkkernel for the voodoo sound. I end up just flashing cm-7-20120902-NIGHTLY and was able to flash vorkkernel sucessfully. I again ran into the browser problem + it also duplicated corrupt copies of all my music files into the sdcard again and again, and tried my best to once again figure out how to properly edit vold.fstab and build.prop, with many unsuccessful attempts, I end up making my internal SDCard unreadable, so I tried to revert the files back to their original by looking in the rom zip and using those files. It did work somewhat, I was able to read my exeternal sd card, but the internal couldn't mount, I was so fed up. I was gonna reflash cm-7-20120902-NIGHTLY so I rebooted into recovery and then I decided not too so I tried to reboot, but I got stuck in a boot loop (phone always booted into CMW recovery mode) with an error
E:can't mount cache/recovery/command
E:can't mount cache/recovery/log
E:can't open cache/recovery/log
E:can't mount cache/recovery/last_log
E:can't open cache/recovery/last_log
I'm unable to get into internal sdcard where my backup is located, however I am able to access external sdcard. I am also unable to wipe cache, I tried to flash cm-7-20120902-NIGHTLY (wipe data/factory reset, wipe divik cache, install zip) again but it doesn't do anything. I have also formatted /sytem with success but unable to format /data and /cache of course.
I'm not really concerned too much about the data on phone, I can get all of it back except some pictures and video I don't value too much. So wiping everything is an option, but would waste a bunch of my time if I didn't have to, but I'm not sure how to do it because I can't find a stock rom for fido (I am aware of the stock roms posted here on this site, but mine is dead). I actually am no longer with fido and don't use this phone as a cell phone anymore, so do I really need the offical stock fido rom or can I download the european one? I
Sorry I have googled this for about 8 hours before posting here and I can't find any clear cut solutions, all I find is similar problems and outdated links.
EDIT1: Cannot boot into S/W mode screen just goes black and shuts off
EDIT2: Found a old backup in my computer that I had transferred to my SDCARD which doesn't work because it says MD5 mismatch!
EDIT3: Was able to restore backup but now it says error formatting /data (I also can't mount /data /cache /emmc, but can only mount /system
and /sdcard)
Thanks
UPDATE
I Can't boot into S/W mode, I take out battery, hold vol down button, then plug phone. What happens is the white logo boots, then goes black and shuts off. I'm running out of options...

CWM Touch 6.0.3.0 error

Hello,
I recently was forced to due an AE swap of my device due to the mic failing on the hardware side. As I was going through the process of unlocking and rooting the new device the recovery flash seemed to error out and not work. After a couple flashes it finally stuck and everything eventually appears to be working after many headaches, however CWM is still acting up. Every time I am in recovery it says.
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
etc...
I have tried everything even to RUU back to full stock and re-do the process but I still have the error. Also when I go to install from SD Card it only sees some random folders that are actually on my internal storage. So even though I placed the SuperSU zip on my SD with my computer I cannot flash it as the recovery doesnt see it. Does anyone have any insight?
Have you tried fastboot erase cache (while in fastboot)
Just throwing it out there not sure if it will do any good.

[Q] Having some Big problems on my motorola razr i! please help.

Hey guys.
So i have this razr i with TWRP 2.8.0.0 recovery installed on my phone and my bootloader is unlocked. I have installed several diferent roms on it over time, and this time i tried to install the unofficial Cyanogenmod 11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/razr-i/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-t2966855) but things went totally wrong when i formated the phone on recovery.
Here's what i did:
1- booted into recovery
2- went to the "wipe" tab
3- taped on "advanced wipe" and selected eveything (Dalvik cache/System/Cache/Data/Internal storage/Micro SDcard), then started formatting
4- after about an hour and a half it was still checking for md5... so i rebooted
5- when i rebooted i realized that everything was gone, including the rom files on the sdcard, so i passed the files from my pc again and tried to install but nothing happend.
6- now for unkown reasons all i see is:
Code:
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount internal storage.
E: unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
FUll SElinux support is present.
E: unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps when trying to read settings file
E: unable to mount '/data'
MTP Enabled
So... My PC has the motorola drivers installed and i've also tried on mac (i have a Macbook pro with widows and mac os), but none of the recognize my phone so i can't use adb or anything that could help with this.
Does anyone know what to do? I just want to install stock jellybean again and then try the cm11 rom.

Yes i can, bootloader and recovery, but as i said my phone isn't recognized so adb sideload does not work.
I tried using mac because i read somewhere that you don't need drivers on there, but it didn't work either... unless i'm doing something wrong

I've experienced with similar situation getting no adb in TWRP. However, when I chose Advanced/Adb sideload, adb sideload did work for me.
PS: Maybe you can try install aother recovery.
Hey! Apparently, your phone has now all the partitions corrupt, because of that failed format. Have you tried installing a stock ROM through RSD Lite?
I once had a similar issue, solved it with a clean SBF flash.
Also, to install a new ROM, you should:
1.Boot in TWRP
2.Go to 'Settings'
3.Check 'Use rm -rf instead of formatting.'
Then, the wiping process wont take more than a couple of seconds, and should install ROM's without problems.
Hope you solve it, and sorry for my english if I made any mistakes.

Have u read the install instructions? The instructions stated that u needed to use the latest recoverys and u still use the 2.8.0.0 one.
The earlier versions have problems on some phones like the one u have now. Some do have the problem some don't. U can fix it by erasing the userdata through fastboot hopefully or by installing touchcwm (the earliest of recoverys for this device) and formatting it that way. Most of the time this fixes the problem.

You have to download one from your region. You can make it to the fastboot menu? And it doesn't detect the phone?

[HELP] I've messed up somewhere, need experienced users

I haven't formatted my phone in a while, so rather than delete files while my phone was working. I booted into recovery and selected the format data option in TWRP. Now I am getting all kinds of errors in TWRP. I was on a custom rom when I did all of this and somehow I screwed up. I can't even get a zip on my phone as my phone is only recognized as charging and not a storage device under these circumstances. I have tried adb sideloading a rom, but that is to no avail. I am thinking about flash a stock recovery in hopes that I'll be able to flash a stock rom and fix my phone.
this is what it says when trying to wipe anything:
could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
failed to mount '/data (invalid argument)
without typing out everything the rest of it says failed to mount '/data' (invalid argument)
Boot the phone into fastboot, type fastboot format userdata
fastboot format cache
then fastboot flash recovery <name of twrp recovery>.img (don't put < >)
boot into recovery and go to advanced wipe and wipe everything except internal
everything will be fine now
you can flash any rom now.
If it worked, hit the thanks button
Try unbrick tutorial from XDA to back to new alike!
This is the best option
Well actually I took a different route altogether. I don't know why I didn't think about it initially. You would think after almost 10 years of dealing with custom ROMs and recoveries that I would of been a lot quicker in finding a solution, so I googled it. Came to the conclusion that I needed a stock OP3T recovery, so I downloaded it and fastboot flashed the stock recovery. From recovery I was able to wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache. All was good after that. Now I'm running coltOS.

Glad you fixed it. If you face a similar issue in the future you can download MSMTool for the OnePlus 3T which will restore stock OOS through fastboot
