[Q] Having errors on installing apk files, NEED HELP! - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having problems installing apk files through file manager
I'm using both root browser and astro file manager
Then, the phone said "complete action using..."
The I chose Package installer
When I tried to install it, it says application not installed
I checked unknown sources and it still doesn't work
Is there a fix for it?
Here are the links where I got the apk files from:

If you have these apps already installed, then you will get app not installed.
If the app is an updated from same vendor it will install OK.
If you are rooted you can manually install either in system/app or data/app and then set permission rw,r,r

[REQ] new Google News and Weather app (GenieWidget.APK)

Hi guys, Im trying to get the Google News and Weather app (GenieWidget.APK) from Nexus S, or other newer version, running. I have an older version that does not auto update, so it kinda sucks.
The new version is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13473045
Ive tried dropping both the APK and/or ODEX file via file manager, also rebooting, but the files are not there afterwards. Im rooted and using FileExpert app, which is granted superuser Im told via toast message.
Also tried direct install of the APK, but again no go --> 'Application not installed' error.
Im running the Mosiac III ROM.
Searches have not helped so Id appreciate some help!
You might wan't to try Root Explorer from the market. Its what I used to install the genie widget. It is pretty easy to use. All you have to do is copy it into your system/app folder and there you have it.

but do i need to delete the old one? Is necessary to change the permissions of the new apk? If yes how?
If the installation is failing you are going to need to adb push the application to your system/app/ folder and then it should work... I am also looking for the new geniewidget.apk (sorry for bumping an old thread).

Try if it works.
Copy into /system/app and set permissions and owner same as others using root explorer.
Edit: Removed file as OP reported as not working
Nah didn't work it just said application not installed

It will say application not installed. You just have to put it in \system\app, fix the permissions and reboot.
You don't have to install it like other apps.

Tried that nothing happened, it's in my /system/app folder now and I restarted twice and nothing. Should I try and push it w/ adb?

I am posting the deleted apps zip in the slim thread right now, sorry for the delay. You will probably have to use a root explorer and put applicationmanager.apk into the /system/app folder and you may have to restart afterwards

[Q] Google Play store on rooted KFHD Crash

I have just rooted my kindle fire, and i was looking in to getting the Play Store...
I followed Stopxwatch's instructionls, but I've had a few issues:
1. I cant move the files to the /system/app folder, and I cant edit them (THEY DID INSTALL SUCCESSFULLYTHOUGH)
2. The Market without the updated play store(The older market, not the play store) works, but crashes when ever I try to download an app.. (I DID reboot my kindle after installing the vending.apk file, and before opening the the app)
3. When I updated the market to the latest play store, the store crashes.. I've tried rebooting multiple times, but it doesnt seem to work.
Can someone please upload the latest Vending.apk file and Gplay file for me
It will not work without moving to system...
Explain why you can't move them?
If you just can't access system you need to give your file manager root access...
I like es file explorer the root options are in settings to root settings and check all

[Q] Get AOSP apks to install in Sense?

I flashed to PAC rom and copied some of the apk files back to data/media/ folder then flashed back into Trickdroid and tried to install some of the apps.
I managed to install the clock app, the gallery app (I wanted the photo widget) and the browser app. But other apps such as Phone.apk had a "problem parsing the package" or something similar when trying to install the apk.
Is there a way to do this or is it impossible for some apps?
Thanks

It's impossible for some apps. Also the best way is to use root explorer and copy them to system/apps and set the correct permissions. Be careful though and create a backup incase you run into issues.

[Q] No option for enabling 'unknown sources' in settings

Hi,
Followed the instructions in leapinlar's thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 to add universal root and unknown sources to stock 2.1.1 via CWM on Nook HD.
All seemed to work fine - no error messages on CWM, cynanoboot logo shows on boot up, zeam and any cut show up in my apps....but when I try to install an apk I get the message "This NOOK cannot read this file. It may be an unsupported format." I also have no option within settings to enable unknown sources.
I tried using NT Hidden Settings and applying the Unknown Sources Hack but get the message "Missing system/bin/su"
Can anyone please help?
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I've left out any important info, totally new to android
There is no setting in stock to enable unknown sources. That is why I have the zip. And how are you trying to install the apk file, using the stock files program? You need to use a third party file manager installed from the Play Store (like root browser or ES Explorer). Those will install them after flashing my zip.

I found a way to add unknown sources without flashing the zip, but it requires you to be rooted.
If your STOCK rom is rooted, go to the play store and download sqlite debugger.
*** BE WARNED *** You can completely screw up things and make the phone LOCK UP if you do something wrong.
I will post detailed instructions later today.
Yes, I could have told him that, but since it takes having the bootable CWM to get rooted, you might as well flash the zip.
I have instructions in my HD/HD+ Tips thread to enable it if you are rooted.
