****, I charged my HTC ONE for 16 hours. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Oh god, oh god.
I just bought it yesterday and I'm really scaring of holding it.
It sat on a pillow, in a box [so it would'nt collect dust] the whole night, connected to the charger ofcourse [as I had around 87 Percent at the end of the day I decided to charge it]
This morning I woke up and had to go straight to work, ofcourse I won't bring my lovely new HTC ONE to work, so I left it there and forgot it was charging.
****. ?
Did I harm the battery? it sat there charging for 16 hours. since 0:00 - 16:30.
Please tell me it's alright and doesn't harm anything at all?

Lol. You're overreacting. Absolutely nothing will happen unless you do this every day for months in a row. And not even then maybe.
So chill.

I would be more worried that you keep your phone in the box, on a pillow, than I would about the extended charging.

Thank, and thank all those who replied aswell
Thanks, I started using it more seriously today, battery's down 26% since I unplugged it.
It went through almost constant use (opening instagram, opening settings, just watching the homescreen)
It's been around an hour of this use with the phone on saving mode and airplane mode with WiFi.. is it okay?

Don't get the interracial comment. I was referring to the fact the phone is not that delicate

The battery isn't that bad as you think.

I think I did good today with slightly heavy use.
I will say that I don't consistently get this performance but when I do I don't complain.
Also juice defender seriously makes a big improvement.

This screenshot essentially shows us nothing without the other two. You need to click display in order for us to see the screen on time and click where it says 23hrs 15min as well. We need all that.
The only thing you've shown us is that the phone made it 23 hours and that you actually charged it for a little bit as well LMAO

ok so i came to the atrix at a what i have to say is a perfect time. i bought the phone and 2 days later there was root! i mean i was pretty lucky, had to wait for the unlock code and suffer one day without root! not to shabby. now while i had minimal time without root my battery seemed fine. however, i have since installed setcpu after root and dropped the clock down to 384mhz. while i know its slow! it still gets the job done. have a look at the screen shots.

if your asking me which i think you are...none at all. i mean dont get me wrong it takes an extra second in response to what you want to do. its by no means fast at that speed but i ended up getting nearly 21 hours outta it. the battery died while i was playing a game lol. i was hoping to beat it into submission that way. took less than 3 hrs to fully charge back up as well...
You guys need to show your screen on time. Without that, the numbers are pretty meaningless.

I have no idea what you guys do with your phones to complain about battery life...
Im in an LTE and use my phone moderately heavy - my phone gets my through the day (about 12 hours) no problem...and I can't complain with that
You gotta remember our phones are pretty much tiny laptops. Laptops only have about 4-6 hour battery life's...sure they're a lot bigger so they consume more power...but they also have a much larger battery...so when you scale it down to vivid size, battery life is on par with what a laptop would be
Just food for thought...my work break is over...so back to work for me :/

Airplane mode (I dont care what anyone says) has ALWAYS killed my battery. Try not using it... Might help. I get about 8-12 hour days on my phone and i use it constantly. using data and syncing and playing games... Just gotta set your phone up right
I could always average 12-15 hours with average use. That would consist of snapchatting, temple run, and twitter, I don't know how you would only get 4 hours...

i barely, and i mean BARELY make it through school if i do that. Im pretty sure i have a bad battery though, just dont feel like returning my phone to stock and stuff just so they can look at it. but a bit of temple run is okay for me, but Angry Birds Star Wars hits my battery alot harder. And Black Ops Zombies murders it. even though the controls suck. but yeah black ops zombies is a 3D game
Do you have it currently installed? Because it constantly runs in the background killing your battery.... when I had my phone would last 6 hours till it died. Might be your problem

I have never had a phone that didn't occasionally need the battery pulled. How does it work work with current phones?

True true, but it is less obvious to the uninformed I guess.
Not many people would just think to hold a button for 10+ seconds, some people I talk to don't even have the idea of "long-press" down pat (which I bet is why HTC has largely removed this from all but a few places on the phone)...
.... But you have people as old as my grandfather that know all about yanking batteries out of crap when they ain't working!

Doesn't adb reboot do the same thing?

When charging my phone the plug burnt and melted

Last night I forgot to charge my phone, so I plugged it in on the way to work and notice the charge light went out on the phone and when I checked the plug to see if it came out out was hot and melting. When I got to the job I plugged it in with a wall charger thinking the car charger went bad and it was doing the same thing. I figured I'll turn the phone off to save my battery to transfer stuff to the computer when I get home to take it to sprint, I decided to try it again while it was off and now it's not doing it even now I turned the phone back on.
In running the latest 42one rom no custom kernel, I guess whatever was going on isn't happening because it rebooted now.
Anyone ever experience this issue, now I'm afraid to leave it plugged in when I go to bed if it happens again, there isn't no point in taking it to sprint because I'm not able to show them what was happening.

I actually did have this happen to me. It was serve melting but it was extremely hot to where it was uncomfortable to touch. I reported it to HTC got a new charger and all has been well since. I don't get it?
The OP probably was using the OEM charger, so I think this is a rarity, but a word of caution to everyone: Not all USB chargers are made the same. You should only use high quality OEM charges for your phones, there's no reason to have a fire hazard to save a couple bucks on a charger.
This happened to me a couple of days. I got to work and plugged it in as usual. After a few minutes i noticed the red light went out. I noticed the bottom of the phone was really warm so i unplugged it and the tip of the charger burnt the crap out of my fingers.
I tried other charges and they didn't work and my Mophie won't charge my phone anymore so just like the OP, I ran a Nandroid back-up along with a Titanium back-up preparing to have to swap it out and then having to worry about getting it s-off'd.
As of today, it's charging with another charger but i did scrape the charging port with a needle because it looked like it might have had some char on it.
Fingers crossed!

Most likely a bad rectifier that's allowing some noise on the (what should be) clean DC.
Dirty DC will cause all sorts of ugly on a digital device.

I had a similar problem with my first One. I was charging it on a crappy work computer, and one of the points got zapped. I could still charge my phone from a plug-in, but it wouldn't connect to any computer. $50 later (thanks Sprint), I had a brand new phone. That I may or may not have promptly bricked.
