So I found this post: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/04/01/debrand-your-xperia-z-tutorial/ look very nice and I would like to try it out. Then I found this ROM for my own country: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200945
Then I read the thread and saw people saying it would be easy to root it also without having a custom ROM. So i went to the recommenden post for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Now I have one question: Does this unlock your bootloader? I want to be sure it doesnt! And when I update my phone again after I rooted it do I need to root again? (with rooting there doesn't come another rom over it in this case, right?)
Thank you for your time!
BTW I have an Sony Xperia Z C6603 branded by T-Mobile
Flashing stock firmwares or custom rom doesn't change bootloader status.
After updating you have to root again.

Ok, thx. So when I use the root guide I actually flash my rom again? Or how does it work?
Sorry but i didn't understand what you mean?
Rooting guide is to root your phone so you can access system files,it's not like changing roms or flashing.

Ah like that. Just like changing permissions of the user or something. Like in Ubuntu the Super user. Thank you for your time!
I hereby present,
stock kernel flashable through CWM (especially needed for locked bootloader)
ONLY FOR LT30P!:

ONLY FOR LT30A!:
Downloadlink: http://d-h.st/Q4m
Thanks to JohnnyMac999
ONLY FOR LT25I!:
Downloadlink: http://d-h.st/mcx
Thanks to Timin8r!
ONLY FOR LT29i!:
Small error in filename. It says 9.1.A.1.140but it is the 9.1.B.0.411kernel (I am not going to re-upload for only this typo, it's on the updater script too but it really installs the .411 kernel)
Downloadlink: http://d-h.st/lAk
Thanks to petalex99
Please report if either the LT30A, the LT25I, and the LT29i version works. These are untested.
If you want I can make it for your devices to, but it will be untested, so will need testers.
If you want me to make one for tl, tx, or v, please post in this thread, don't spam my mailbox!
What do I need for the flashable kernel?
Kernel.elf.
You can make this with flashtool. Just extract kernel.sin from the ftf of your device, and use flashtool's build in sin editor to 'drop' the data in the sin. This will result in kernel.elf.
I would do it myself if I had my pc.
More detailed instructions are found here:

With big big thanks to gregbradley for supplying the needed files (sorry Greg forgot credits, was being too hasty on my phone)

You're welcome
NP
[facepalm] Sorry for the question, but what's the interest of this ? [/facepalm]
The interest is that you won't need a pc anymore to update your phone to a newer firmware.
Because you can flash a Rom.zip and afterwards my kernel.zip.
It's just for ease of use

This can come handy at times.
Btw, what files do you need so you can build one for our TX? TIA mate.

Hi bro can u make this for xv
Great work. Mind if I post a link on the XperimenT thread?. Btw, it is not as needed to flash this as it was for the first JB update, the phone will work fine with .140 firmware and .489/.492 kernel mine ran like that for 2 days with no probs. But now that the locked bootloader cwm works with this kernel there's no need to stick to the old kernel.

sure, just upload me the kernel.elf (if you don't know how to make it i suggest you read the all in one thread (and gregbradley already explained id too)
I'd do it myself if i could, but i won't have my computer at hand for next couple of weeks.
And my phone has a limited data plan so i really don't want to download/upload any more than really is necessery

Sure no problem, you could even just include it in your rom so it will automatically flash right kernel (only handy for LB ofc)
credit's WOULD be nice ofc
and i think the new kernel will probably be better for battery and maybe a little bit for performance

I won't be integrating it as I don't need it myself but will provide the link for those that do. And you know me, credits will be given to those that deserve them
Performance with this kernel is indeed better. I just needed the old kernel to get to cwm, testing mods for my new build.

Sorry for late response!
But I'm sorry I can't make a CWM or TWRP kernel, since I don't know how to compile one.
This kernel is completely stock, no changes made, just prepared it for flashing through a zip
I can however, if you post me the kernel.elf make a flashable zip containing your stock kernel, and you could use CWM for stock bootloader after that.

Thanks for the answer, but I don't know how to prepare a kernel.elf from a kernel.sin which I extracted from stock, original ROM.
So....that is..untill I will learn!
Ok,
Step one:
Download ftf.
Step two:
Use winrar to open the ftf, and extract kernel.sin
Step three:
Open flashtool, search for sin editor, this is in one of the menus on the statusbar.
Click on it and choose open file.
Select your kernel.sin and press dump data (or something equivalent)
Step four:
Upload the kernel.elf which flashtool dropped.
Step five:
I can create flashable zip of your kernel.
Maybe I didn't use the correct words everywhere, just use common sense in those cases
Good luck!

I was messing around with the system/app folder and replaced the camera files with ported files. Now the camera app doesn't work and I didn't make a backup of those files. So please can someone provide the required files?
As you don't say which firmware version you're using, then just extract them from a rom or flash a stock FTF with Flashtool without wiping.
Next time you're modifying /system, make sure you backup.

Branded = Stock Sony firmware with carrier-specific settings and/or software
Unbranded = Stock Sony firmware without the above, also known as 'generic'
Custom = any modified or non-Sony firmware e.g. MIUI, CyanogenMod, AOSP builds.

To find out what firmware your device has on it currently, just go to Settings > About Device > Build Number. Then search on XDA or Google for the ".ftf" version, flash it with Flashtool and you're good to go.

Are you sure. You seem a bit new to this, so I suggest using the files that are already uploaded in the development section rather than making one yourself
@[NUT] does have guide to (D)o (I)t (Y)ourself (Google NUTs DIY guide) but for new users I suggest just following the instructions in the OP until you have read some more
Hey pathanraj,
I rooted my Xperia Z1 today from 4.2.2 .257 to .757 .
Thanks to [NUT] that made it possible and easy, i suggest:
-Using his latest xzdr dual recovery found here
-Upgrading from .257 to android 4.3 .290 using his tutorial here
-Upgrading from .290 to android 4.4 .681 using his tutorial here
-And last, Upgrade from .681 to .757 using his tutorial here
So here is the procedure: Have root first of all, install recovery and then upgrade from .257 --> .290 --> .681 --> .757
You can do all this using the tuts from [NUT] , that i posted above.
Be sure to have a FULL root installed into system on your 4.2.2 JB .257
If you don't understand something, just ask for more info, It would be a pleasure to help a fellow member of xda-developers.com .

After I was refused a fix or replacement for this broken phone (mainly the touchscreen issue), I think it is time to root. Thank you, gregbradley, for providing useful information. These forums are helpful, unlike Sony themselves, retailers, or organizations for customer protection. Thank god at least somebody cares.

Hi there, I need to downgrade from 4.3 (10.4.1.B.0.101) to any Europe 4.2.2 with recovery + rooted stock firmware, becouse I want to flash this firmware : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-rooted-deodexed-zipaligned-stock-0-t2759467
I have locked bootloader and no recovery and root on my 4.3, that's the main problem why I need to downgrade to 4.2 as well I have locked BL and I don't want to unlock it.
Thanks in advice.
(have searched before posting this thread, so don't suggest me to use search, 'cause I've found only useless things. I need EUROPE, not with china language and for unlocked bl..)
To downgrade, you will need to flash an FTF. You will not find an FTF that is prerooted/has a custom recovery. FTF files are unmodified stock firmware only.
You will need to flash a stock FTF with Flashtool, root and flash the dual recovery yourself (or use the unrooted install method for XZDualRecovery).
Search in the general section for a 4.2.2 FTF. There are many available. The region does not matter if you're going to immediately flash a different rom anyway.

Please point out where I said you needed CWM to flash an FTF. You use Flashtool.
1. Download a 4.2.2 FTF - Here
2. Flash with Flashtool - Download
3. Install XZDualRecovery using the unrooted method.
4. Flash the rom mentioned in your original post.
All this information is readily available in the forums, so a quick search should help if you're having further problems.
