Yesterday I received my Chromecast and after set up I used it with many tabs and YouTube videos from my laptop, tablet, and phone.
Last night, the Chromecast updated. Now, I can't seem to cast a tab from my browser. Also, I can cast YouTube from my tablet and phone, but not from my chrome browser.
I have changed the power source from the USB brick to the USB port on my TV, nothing changed. Unplugged and plugged back the Chromecast itself, nothing changed. Even did a factory reset through the options, connected it back to my network, and still nothing changed.
I have a Cisco router connected to my university's Ethernet port in my dorm, but I don't think this is affecting the connection considering It was working fine yesterday.
TL;DR
Tab casting worked yesterday, doesn't work now.
YouTube casting works on phone & tablet apps, not on Chrome browser.
Restarted router, re installed chrome browser, factory reset Chromecast. Nothing worked.
I was wondering if I shouldn't worry about this because it's still in Beta, but the fact that it worked perfectly fine yesterday is confusing me.
I posted this on the Chromecast subreddit (which I can't link to yet), just in case if someone has a similar problem and it's resolved, but not here.

I have researched this topic and have finally narrowed down my issue somewhat, but have reached a wall. My nook will not play youtube videos when connected to my home router. At first I thought it was the nook, but when I use my G2 as a wireless hotspot the nook will play videos just fine, but when I reconnect to my router it says "loading video" for a long while and then finally tells me "video cannot be played". I have Verizon FIOS and am using the wireless router/modem they supplied. I'm assuming the issue is with a setting in the router itself, but I have no idea what to look at and where to start.

The nook has wifi problems inherent in the design. See my post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959823&highlight=dummies
I appreciate the reply, and I read through that thread but it doesn't really help me. It's not having connection issues and I can surf online just fine, it just won't play youtube vids when connected to my home router. It plays youtube just fine when connected through my phone, and it plays the same vids just fine when connected to in-store wireless.
Hello all,
This is my first post on XDA Dev.
I bought a Chromecast last week and plugged it in and set it all up. So far I am well impressed with it except for 1 thing. When I go to cast from YouTube either via my phone, tablet or laptop to my TV it sounds like the people are under water. When I cast my chrome browser tab with YouTube loaded and enlarge the video it sounds perfect.
I just cant quite get my head around why its doing this. All other apps like BBC iPlayer work a charm with no problems whatsoever.
I've powered things down, tried to plug into different HDMI ports, tried different power sockets and USB ports but still it's the same.
Any ideas chaps?
thanks.
Have you tried completely resetting the Chromecast recently, via your laptop I believe?
Sent from my Galaxy S5
Hi there,
I have reset the thing numerous times from using the button to using my phone and laptop. Still no joy.
Does the chromecast depend on certain TV drivers / firmware? I must admit I have never updated my TV since getting it and do not even know if there are any new downloads for it to be honest.
The TV I have is a Samsung UE55B7000 and the firmware that I am using is T-CHU7DEUC-2009.0 (so quite old)
Cheers
Hey guys, I've got some problem with my original Chromecast. When I bought it a year ago, it worked well, casted full HD movies through BubbleUPNP and Videostream without any problems, now it just lags whenever I try to, even with SD movies. No matter if I convert it to mp4, or transcode it via Videostream, it runs well for a second, then everything becomes laggy and the CC tries to buffer everytime (although mp4 runs a little better).
Some details:
-The router is close to the TV/Chromecast, and it has strong signal. However, my net service provider gave me some noname (Technicolor) modem with built in wifi recently, so I'm using that instead of the previous Cisco modem+D-Link router combo. I'm suspecting that this can be a reason, but my other devices are connecting to it without a problem from the same distance. And as I remember, it had similar problems not long before the new router. Also, Youtube app works well.
-I've checked my computer resources when transcoding, it only uses around 20% of the CPU, so I don't think that it causes the problem. The computer is connected to the network via cable.
-Also tried resetting the Chromecast, and setting it up again. It detects the wifi well, but it had some problems connecting to the internet (but I guess the local network is what matters when casting from a computer drive).
I hope someone can provide me some kind of help to solve this, I've read many people to suffer from similar problems, but couldn't get any noticable solutions from them. Thank you, and have a nice day!
Trying to set up something in my camper so that I can watch downloaded movies or shows from my phones. I have a Note 3 with android 5.0.2 and miracast seems to be broken? When the Note 3 had 4.4 it worked fine and I used a Sony dvd player that it worked with just fine. It "sees" the player but won't cast to it.
I have a Google Pixel XL that does not see the dvd player for some reason. I brought a wifi router into the camper and tried to set up a chromecast (Gen 1). I can get it set up but then neither device, when connected to same wifi, see the device so that I can cast to it. I am going to grab a Gen 2 model from home and see if this will work.
Is there a simpler way to make this work? It was so easy just using miracast and now this has turned into a massive headache.
If you have the Stock FW on the CC, please ensure, that guest mode is enabled (via Google home). In this case the CC provided an own Wifi net if needed.

I've never been able to get the guest mode to work. It seems like no matter what the chromecast still needs an actual internet connection, even if only casting a movie/picture right from device.
So far what works for me but it's annoying. I have my actual Verizon phone turned on as hotspot, Set up the chromecast to connect to hotspot. I leave it up and running. My Note 3 has my movies on it so I connect to same hotspot and cast using Allcast app...I think. That's the only app that even seems to find the chromecast. Yes I have Google Home installed on both devices. If I turn off the hotspot Chromecast stops working. Neither device finds the chromecast after that unless I turn hotspot back on. Yes guest mode is turned on. A pin is never displayed but since devices don't see it it won't help anyway.
I had a spare wifi router and did the same test. Still need an actual data connection. If no data connection the devices do not see the Chromecast.
Technology is really frustrating at times. Miracast worked just fine until Google didn't like it and made the Chromecast. The Note 3 is old and close to being dead so I am not buying a MHL adapter for it nor will I buy a new tv that has something built in that does not seems to work either. Many other camping people are starting to run into this issue as well.
if you go in Google Home under your device, Settings, there is a possibility to switch the guest mode on. This means the CC works like a hot spot. Its written also on the screen. Every device, which is not in your network, could get an access. I don't know, at which time the guest mode will be disabled automatically. Maybe at this time, if you stream something over your own network to the CC.
Hi,
I bought a cheap "MiraCast" dongle from eBay that works great. Less than $14 with shipping included from China. They list them as a "2nd Generation Chromecast 2" screen mirroring devices, a little misleading, but I'm happy with the unit, as it was brand new, in a very nice box I might add. If you need a link, then PM me, or reply here.
PS, they picture a Chromecast shape, but the lead with a Wi-Fi antenna is a giveaway. Here is a link to get you started, and actually is titled better than the one I bought, which is sold out. There are lots more like it at varying prices. https://m.ebay.com/itm/2-Digital-HD...d=202018167243&_trksid=p2349624.c100408.m2460
Motorhome option to cast from phone or tablet or TV without Wi-Fi or hotspot connecti
I was looking at a thread that discuss different connectivity options without Wi-Fi but could not figure it out. Are there any updates to this? Right now the only results that I have is to hardwire an iPhone to the TV using the HDMI connection and Apple Adapter device. The Mira cast Dongle works most of the time but is intermittent at best.
My son upgraded to an iphone so I got his old S7. Using it and the sony dvd player I can use miracast again.
I have also set up my main phone as a wifi hotspot and connected a chromecast and my S7 to it as well and been able to cast. This method ties up both devices and then they also both need to be plugged in. My wifes Iphone can also cast to the chromecast when connected to my hotspot.
Best I can come up with for now.
I started having this problem in the last week, and I haven't found any solutions here or elsewhere on the internet.
I have multiple chromecasts. One of the old USB stick looking ones and a few of the newer round ones. I've used them for years with a mediatomb server to stream local content to them, and it has typically worked pretty well. Now they've started working really flaky. They'll either drop connection entirely or skip to the next video on the mediatomb server after about 30 minutes of playback. The server is a desktop with wired gigabit ethernet to my router. The chromecasts are all using wifi. I haven't changed the configuration of anything in ages.
The first time I noticed it a movie stopped that my wife had cast using some app (I forget what it is called) from her iphone. I power cycled my router and the chromecast, then cast it from my android using Localcast with similar results. Playback kept stopping after 20 - 30 minutes. I factory reset that chromecast and set it up again, same results. I tried a different chromecast, same results. I set up mediatomb on my laptop to try a different server, same results. I tried ushare and rygel for some other dlna servers on the laptop, same results. Netflix, HBO Go and services like that still seem fine, but these chromecasts just refuse to work right with local dlna servers anymore.
I don't know much about troubleshooting these little buggers aside from all the resetting and swapping stuff I've tried. Previously they always just worked. Is there anyway to get any logs off these things in an unmodified state? Anyone else seen anything like this recently? I'm very suspicious that a chromecast firmware update might have started this behavior, since it came out of nowhere and I've changed nothing on the equipment I control.
