[Q] Hands free answering calls? - Moto X Q&A

I know Moto X has been advertised as being able to do so many things hands free, but I can't seem to figure out if its possible to answer calls hands free, and then automatically turn on speaker phone.
There may be apps that can do this, but I assumed it would be possible by default on the X. It'd be nice to be able to use the home dock and answer calls without having to touch the phone at all.

Yes as far I have heard about MOTO X functionality it has the feature to answer the call with voice , without any touch experience...but that voice apllication does not work out actively or properly in a crowded area...but this is quite interesting one and will surely sell MOTO X at carrier
Still a cool feature

Do you happen to know what the command for it would be lol, I can't seem to say anything that will actually answer the phone.

I had never heard I could answer my phone without touching it.

You can answer calls and have it speak back text messages with voice when in driving mode, I'm still trying to figure out how to enable driving mode while not driving.

Nettalk app... Posible voip app for g tablet?

So I installed nettalk voip app on my tablet it installs but it has the same issues with voice calling with fring. I mean this app would be great for us G tablet users cause we lack phone cababilities. What needs to be fixed so this app would work flawlessly? I would love to use this app cause its like the magicjack of android... Well until magicjack releases there android app which they stated it would be released in september of this year
I tried sipdroid and imsdroid. Neither work.
Also stremfurious doesn't work. It keeps reporting broken pipe and freezing.
It's like the network is going up and down, or the connection status is not being reported properly.
Voip Gtablet
I have Skype and IAXagent working, but unable to get audio to my bluetooth headset.
very possible @op. install sipdroid and let it make you a new pbxes automagically and have gv installed. i treated my viewsonic like a project and first testing requirement was "could i make and receive calls?" well i got swype plus mic and call and recieve working...but the software was still horrible. i couldnt beleive that a device like a giant epic(sgstabby) could massacre my tegra2tabby by way of speed and sheer quickness...working on phone call and receive now for my galaxy tab and i couldnt be happier....amazing what software can do...this tabby will be awesome if it gets enough dev but as it stands its going to be overlooked just because of the crap software...i used all custom roms and none had the performance of STOCK s g tabby....i hate samsung and i looked forward to this device for so long...rather disappointing...glad i purchased at staples with no restock fee
Humm, my sipdroid works just dandy... using sipgate, sipsorcery, Google voice..
Sidebar, in sipdroid you must hit menu>speaker to hear anything.. I've also found within sipdroid in landscape mode the keyboard "enter" button actually starts the call

+1 Skype works fine for me. I have a Skype number and the $2.99 unlimited US/Can calls. I can receive and make calls. I use my phone headset and it works perfectly.
Ok, so I got a Galaxy Tablet (Sprint) from BestBuy, and plan to use it only with WiFi.
I was searching around and discovered Sipdriod as a possible app to make calls over WiFi with my G Tab, but when I try to place a call I get the message "Cannot make or take a call using the Galaxy Tab."
Anyone know why this is?
I read above that Sipdroid won't work, but I am wondering why. I mean is this a limitation Sprint has put on their G Tabs? Is it some limitation Samsung built in?
It just doesn't make sense to me that I can have an Android app that should be able to make a call over WiFi, but the G Tab is restricted.

NFC not working

My mother in law just upgraded from a flip phone to a moto x and we were trying to show the android beam ability to pass pictures from her phone to our HTC ones. However, when I touch the phones together in the appropriate spots, the notification sound happens but the picture on her phone doesn't get smaller and give the option to tap to send. However, I can send her a picture the same way with no troubles at all so I know everything is turned on correctly. I can't really play with the touchless control on hers b/c she won't use it so if it's something in there, I've missed it. Can someone please give me a hand with this? Any help is much appreciated.
Haven't really gotten to play with the NFC on the X too much. You should try sending a contact and see if that works. If it works then there's something off either in the app or beam.

[Q] Drive not announcing incoming call but missed call

Hello,
wife's Moto X is connected to older VW bluetooth which only let's you dial through the phone or pick up incoming calls. That was the reason I got her the Moto x, so the drive assist would announce calls and she could place calls hands free. However, when a call comes in, it just rings, no announcement. When the call is not picked up, the phone then says "missed call from xxx". So drive is working somehow but not all the way. And when the "missed call from xxx" announcement is being spoken (and the screen goes black with the red microphone circle), the phone doesnt react to any voice input.
I upgrade and downgraded the assist app, didnt make any changes. I'm using the "having issues with bluetooth - other audio" option.
Any idea? Thanks a lot!
Have you been into the settings of assist and checked the boxes of the actions you want when you are driving? Also, is your GPS in high accuracy?

yes and yes. Drive assist shows up as symbol in the notification bar. And it runs because missed calls are being announced, just not incoming one's. Wife has replace the stock dialer, not sure if that makes a difference, because when I disabled it it was doing the same.
Try this: How to reset Motorola Assist
Thanks. I forgot to mention that I tried to clear cache etc. But reading through the comments from the link above, there are a lot of people having the same issue. I think I'll wait and see if the coming L update will fix things. Sounds like 4.4.4 update broke it for some. And I don't have much time fussing with the phone and car at the same time since it's not mine. But as of now, Assist seems useless and I could just use Google Now for the same functionality.

Screen off - Ok Google OR Moto Voice ?

Hi all
I am running lollipop and was wondering if I should use the moto custom voice to wake device with screen off, or use the one built into lollipop in Google now.
Is one better than the other ?
Besides being able to use a custom phrase on moto voice ?
I remember reading somewhere that the Google works better cuz its direct.
Any feedback would be much appreciated
Thanks and have a great weekend

Try them both, pick which one you like better.
Google Now can't wake your device unless it is charging.
Only Moto voice will work with the screen off of its not charging.

That's not correct. Lollipop has it built into the OS. Check under google now / settings and voice (voice detection). It's there. Screen off as well. And I think it works better than the moto x one after testing.
I'm well aware of it supposedly being built into lollipop. But it doesn't work with the screen off on the moto X unless its being charged. I've disabled moto voice, enabled google now voice detection from any screen and turned the screen off. Said "OK Google" nothing happens. There have been a few of us here that have tried it and it doesn't work. It does work, though, when it's being charged. If you're able to get it to work please let us know how you did it because I would rather use Google now.
My Google settings on CM 12. Does not work unless plugged in for me.
Haha my bad. I also have a nexus 6 so when I went to my moto X I assumed that it was the same. And I guess I tested it with the screen on. And alas, upon trying it, you are right. It doesn't work when the screen is off. Oops
This thread is close to the question I was researching but my question is more generic. I just got my new MotoX a couple days ago and I'm confused, what is the difference between Google Now or the Moto Voice apps? My old phone was a MotoX 2013 so I'm used to using Google Now for everything, now my new X seems to have two apps that do the same thing? What's the deal?

Moto Voice can wake up your phone, which Google Now cannot. Moto Voice can read your your new notifications (either on command, or during a set period of time), Google Now cannot. Most other voice commands are heard by Moto Voice, and then passed over to Google Now. The two don't really overlap in their abilities. They work together to give you the best of both worlds.

[Q] Questions about setting up the Nexus 6 to work completely by voice operation.

Mainly for answering and making calls. And sending/reading the occasional text.
This is for someone who can't see and has severe arthritis so talk back wouldn't work. She could barely grasp the phone let alone move her fingers around.
The problem I'm having is that "Ok Google" doesn't work on the phone app. When someone calls there is no way to say something "OK Google...Answer phone" also you can't say hang up. That one isn't as big of deal since it'll exit the phone app when the other person hangs up.
I realize I'll have to use Tasker to create those commands but is there anyway to have it listen during ringing/the conservation?
Nexus 6 (Verizon) completely stock right now on 5.1.
Oh, also can anyone tell me why Google Now doesn't ask you Mobile or Home when you tell it to call someone on the Nexus? On my LG G3 (with 5.0) if I say "Call soandso" it comes back and speaks Mobile or Home and then you can say one of the two and it will dial.
Well, I found out the answer. It can't be done with lollipop. There is no way to use the Take Call command in tasker even if you are rooted.
The phone is going to be kind of useless for any incoming call. Outgoing will still work okay.
