USB not working (no fastboot usb, no usb in booted OS) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,

is there any possiblity to flash a firmware via hboot or recovery? (i'm s-off)
cheers

Boot into Fastboot and install via the ADB method,
Vomer has a fantastic instruction/guide for you
I used it only last night:

If you can't even charge your phone, I'd be worried you may have broken USB port. Better figure out how to get the charger working before trying other stuff.

maybe you missed some information in my 1st post.
I can't use FASTBOOT to to anything, cause my USB-Port is not being detected and so I don't have any Fastboot USB.

I thought it could be a firmware issue, that's the reason i wanna try to flash another firmware to confirm it.
otherwise i have to send it to htc repair center

I'm not aware of any method to update firmware without using fastboot.

Fastboot USB not detected

When I try to flash the boot.img by running the phone in Fastboot USB it does not connect with my PC. I have installed the latest version of SDK and the necessary files that need to be installed such as fasboot.exe, etc.
I had successfully flashed a boot.img before reformatting my PC but now the phone disconnects when in Fastboot USB mode although it can connect and is shown in Device Manager when inside the phone OS.

Well anyways it could be multiple things. It could be
1. You dont have proper drivers (but u said above you do with latest SDK and HTC Sync installed)
2. Broken USB port on computer
3. Broken mini HDMI port on your phone
4. Broken Cable.
You wouldnt by any chance be using PACman are you? I actually had some problems where my computer would not detect PACman in fastboot. If thats the case reflash PACman and try again. If that still doesnt work, then flash another ROM with full wipe, then see if it connects.

I was running PACman but after I installed the latest update for it my phone kept bootlooping so I am currently running CyanVivo X. It connects fine using the USB cable but it just doesn't connect when going into Fastboot USB.
I can also connect through the recovery menu with Clockwork Recovery.
You have to make sure whether your USB port is broken or the cable itself.

It is not the USB port or the cable because it works 100% fine when not in Fastboot USB. The phone connects perfectly fine within the ROM and in Clockwork Recovery but not in Fastboot USB. I am thinking that re-unlocking the phone may help.
EDIT: I was using a USB 3.0 port and that was the issue... For some reason it didn't like the USB 3.0 in Fastboot USB << Heads up for anyone else having this issue.

No fix unless you want to replace your USB 3 ports with USB 2 ports.

[Q] No 'FASTBOOT USB' HTC One Developer Edition

I have searched for the last couple weeks with little success finding an answer.
Recently I tried to install boot.img using FASTBOOT but was unable to get FASTBOOT to go to FASTBOOT USB after connecting to MacBook Pro with USB.
To see if drivers were an issue I tried to do the same to my HTC One X (Evita) and had no problem getting FASTBOOT USB.
Both units have Android Debugging USB checked.
Both units are using CM11 ROM and latest TWRP recovery.
I had flashed, via TWRP, a Google Edition ROM but did not like it so installed my CM11 backup from TWRP
I tried a different USB cable
Am I missing something? One X does FASTBOOT USB and One does not?
Perhaps going to S-OFF but I think I need to be able to use FASTBOOT USB?!
Any ideas are very much appreciated.
Thanks
David

When the phone is in fastboot mode, try pressing the volume down key. For me, the volume down key gets it into Fastboot USB

I had tried that recommendation from another site with no luck! Thanks for responding.
With the little response to my query I am thinking more and more it is a hardware issue. Read something about a Kernel change but nothing definitive.
If I can get this rectified I will go to S-OFF immediately
Thanks again.

kernel shouldn't affect bootloader. maybe the phone's USB port has debris in it? try cleaning it, and also try different cables, USB ports.
I have tried the different cables. Works with Evita but not with the M7.
Cleaning the USB port is on the agenda but short of compressed air, which I was going to pick up today, I am not sure what else I can do!
Thanks

Since my last post I tried to access device using ADB.
./adb devices did not give me the HTC One serial #. I had no problem getting serial # when I plugged in my One X.
Is there anything I am missing? I have compared the two with what is checked off in the DEVELOPER OPTIONS and both look to be the same.
Tried to connect HTC One to Mac using ANDROID FILE TRANSFER. Now I get a rapidly flashing pink/purple overlay occasionally?!?!
Anybody have a suggestion?
Thanks

Oh yeah, and I was not able to connect to HTC One using Android file transfer!
Am now flashing another ROM to see if that will make any difference.
I will get some compressed air tomorrow. Perhaps there is some crud in the phones USB port preventing contact?
As always, I appreciate the support from all.

Fastboot won't recognize USB.

So I'm getting into fastboot mode but it just says FASTBOOT not FASTBOOT USB even thought it's plugged in. When USB is plugged in I can't even get into fastboot mode. Any ideas?

Is your usb cable a data cable or only a charging cable? Make sure its data capable, not only charging cable, try another cable, try another port (usb 2.0).
What is your version of htc drivers?

Latest HTC drivers, tried 4 cables, multiple USB ports along with other computers. It is not a driver issue because the phone doesn't say FASTBOOT-USB nor is it shown in device manager.

I guess that if your phone isn't detected both in windows and ubuntu its maybe a bad usb port on the phone or maybe a corrupted bootloader.
What caused the bootloop?

CM12 was installed then about 2 months later the screen was replaced (Phone was apparently completely drained), is there a way to fix a corrupted bootloader?
Have stumbled upon this https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/167884/iPhone+5s+-+Infinite+boot+loop+(after+screen+replacement
Hmmm this guy seems to have the same issue. I'm guessing a screw in the wrong spot causes some kind of short? Even though each screw had a different size and thread.
What do you think?

[Solved]M7 Soft bricked,ADB/Fastboot not working,No OS as well,TWRP 2.6.3.3

Hello.I am in some kind of a trouble..I just bought a phone with firmware problems, hoping i could make it work. The problem is this, someone tried to update the firmware, unsuccesfully, and now it's stuck with no OS.I can only start recovery and bootloader.
Recovery is Teamwin 2.6.3.3.Already tried to clear cache and everything,to use an USB with OTG,but it's not recognised,ADB sideload also it's not working.
adb devices shows the phone is not connected, and FastBoot says "Waiting for device".Any idea? I've tried, read a lot,but I can't really work it out..
Also,I can't find the device in Device Manager, neither in ADB nor Fastboot.
I tried using Windows 8.1 and 7..Same deal.
Thank you!

First, follow instructions given in this post to install the latest android sdk-tools and the latest htc drivers. Also make sure you don't have HTC Sync installed on your computer.
Then connect your phone to you computer with the original cable (or any other cable already known to work for data transfer - some usb cable are only providing power), reboot the phone in bootloader mode by holding vol down and power. Make sure you see the red "fastboot usb" caption on the screen, if not use vol up/down and power to select the "fastboot" menu. Once there open a command window form the android sdk-tools folder and type "fastboot getvar all". Copy/paste the ouput of this command here (except the imei and serialno).
I've followed that,and still not working.pics attached.
It's very weird, because I was expecting for a soundfrom the Windows, like a new device connected .But ..nothing

Ok so its not detected at all
Might be caused by
a bad usb cable --> Try another one that you are 100% sure its working
a bad usb port on the computer (use only usb 2.0 ports btw)
a problem with the computer ---> Try another computer.
a bad usb port on the phone ---> need to replace the usb/front mic board
Might also worth to fix your laptop drivers problem. Might be causing problem if the "unknown" device is an adapter or usb controller...
Then reboot the computer.
I think we can exclude the first two, because I've tried 2 different USB cables, and with my S2 ,both of them are working, even ADB.I will try to replace the usb port from the phone, and then try again. But,do you think it will work ?
Thank you!

Its hard to tell, there isn't any background info about what was done on that phone. The usb board is pretty cheap so it worth a try if you are 100% sure everything else is fine (computer, cables etc..)
I understand, but,I mean,as far as I know,it's not hard brick, because the phone is still booting..in some way ..so if I manage to connect it,I can flash the rom..am I right?

Normally it should be pretty easy to fix if you can get fastboot and adb connectivity. You could then update the firmware so you can flash the correct RUU to restore the phone back to stock, already made the research and all the files (firmware and ruu) you'll need are available.

Sorry for the late reply, the phone is now in service,in 1-2 days they should fix the USB board, and I will get back with more info soon.
Thank you very much for your quick answers and for taking time to help me!
Good news,I've managed to unbrick it.I asked a friend with a Mac to check it out,and his Mac recognized with no problems.Installed the Os,but still,Windows can't detect it.I've tried on 2 pc's(7 and 10) with the proper drivers.Weird..
Anyway,thank you for your time @alray !

Nexus 6 wont detect MTP USB but charges fine

Anyone with the same issue ? I am stuck at the bootloader since I wiped out my system image I can get to the recovery but I don't have a way to transfer new ROM since phone wont detect USB (MTP).
I didn't have any image backed to restore to. Tried OTG cable/USB nothing worked
What are my options ?

Hi... Is data mounted and MTP enabled in TWRP?
Is your phone detected while in bootloader?
Try: fastboot devices
If phone is recognized, download stock firmware of your choice and flash it...

Well, if you're 100℅ sure the USB port is damaged, there's nothing else than a repair that could bring your phone back to life... Good luck..!

Might be a driver problem.
Connect it your windows pc and check the Device Manager if it is detected as "Android" device. If so uninstall it and disconnect and reconnect it to the pc. Let windows install the MTP drivers.
