[Q] S3 I9305 16GB sudden death? - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hello,
my S3 I9305 LTE 16GB just died and now i'm investigating the reason. First of all, does the SDS occur on my device? i can't check for eMMC or
FW rev and in the topics about the sudden death issue i didn't read anything about the I9305. Could it be the Sudden death bug?
So what happened to my device:
I run CM 10.1 since June 2013 without any issues. About 3 weeks ago i updated to the newest 10.2 nightly build (don't remember the exact build)
Since than the device started to turn of randomly. In the beginning 1-2 times during the day. The frequency increased, sometime it turn off 3 times in a row, if the battery get removed. Today I accidentally took the battery out during the bootscreen (cm loading screen). Since than the device don't show any reaction to any of the boot modes, while charging nor full battery. It seems the device has no power (No light while charging). Since it's dead i tried several times to turn the device on, once there was a infrequently red light blinking (infrequently in blinking and intensity). But it happened only once. Now it has no life signs.
Is there anything i can do? It's still in warranty, but i can't flash the stockrom... will customer service make any trouble? i never had to sent a phone to the customer service.
thank you for any advice and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask

Looks like a job for customer service.

That happened to me on cm 10.1 and i just quickly loaded another rom before it booted again took a while though .even in cwm it kept rebooting rom had been fine for two weeks

it has a custom rom / root so warranty is void .
But if the phone does not boot it may not be relevant .
Just be prepared for a rejection of warranty or a repair charge .

I normally dont go through customer service i go through a phone repair shop and they charge 50 Aussie $ to flash new firmware no questions asked.if they cant fix like when i wiped efs they returned fully to stock so it could go back under warranty as they have advanced tools unavailable to the rest of us.samsung would still detect current custom rom even if it wont boot .

If they aren't able to go into download mode, you can be calm, they won't be able to see if your phone was rooted or installed any custom rom, so they will fix it.

Yes true but you have to wait along time without your phone if it gets shipped off.repair shop does it same day.

Is I9305 concerned by SDS?
Hi there,
I intend to buy a new phone, i would like the I9305 16Gb. I had before a I9300 16Gb with an insane chip which i sold fearing the SDS.
is this model that i want to buy at risk? Does it come with the same insane chip? Is there a colour i could buy to minimise he risk of ending up with the same emmc? I could choose between grey, brown, or white. Honestly i don't care about the colour, i want a good phone.
Thank you all for your answers, i hope that with your help i will make the right choice!

How many people got the same problem after reclaim a new 2X from LG (reboots problem)

As I see, I guess there are approximately 5% of the total amount of Optimus 2X that got problem about freezing screen and reboot itself.
No one can solve this problem unless go back to LG and claim new one.
But, no one can make sure that the new one will not have the same problem again.
Now I am sending my 2X back to LG and wait them to send a new 2X back to me.
I am so worried if I get the new mobile with problem again.
So, I would like to know anybody who already claim the mobile from LG and still got the problem. I would like to know the statistics of the user.
If your guess is right, you will get a good unit with a 95% probability.
Sounds good, no?
Confirmed here in Netherlands people indeed got back a new phone with same issues.....
I got the g2x...and can confirm that my phone is not defective...works great..

I work for a phone compagny and so far i think 5% can be true. But that was before the updates. After the updates nobody (at least with me) came back with complains

i'm still using stock rom with v10b..never face the reboot issues
p/s this phone is really great!!
thank all guys, if I got a good phone at the beginning, I would not feel like this.
I'm in Thailand and I bought this phone on May 7, 2011 for 20,900 baht (~680 USD)
When Samsung Galaxy S2 is released, the price down to 15,900 baht (~520 USD) within a month.
The point is I got a problem phone. That means I can't use phone well along 1 month.
Feeling like I throw away 160 USD to LG for free.
for almost a month i didn't have problems but in the recent time it started to behave strange... today i had my second reboot...
i'm not getting some sms messages at all... however the sender got's message that it was sent... sometimes they call me, but my phone doesn't make any sign of it, but at the other end it is ringing...
kinda strange behaviour, not I am the only one with these calling and sms bugs...
the charging is also crap, somtimes i just charge it, and the charging indicator is tuck at some value, and the phone is really hot... then i restart it, and the value just jumps higher, and a temperature of the phone gets ok...
the charging problem seems a hardware issue... i'm thinking on sending it back... but I don't know what else to buy... this one has all the features i need, sgs2 and sensation are too expensive for me... so i'm hoping that lg will do something in the summer... otherwise i'm sending it back :S
My phone started rebooting recently. Yesterday it rebooted twice and tonight it shut down causing me to miss the alarm.
Before this it went 2 months without any reboots.
Wtf?
Installed anything recently?
Flash 10.3 update maybe?
I just heard an information from Thai webboard.
He said that the warranty of 2X can let the user claim it for only one time.
That means you cannot claim it again if the new one got problem again.
Suck LG
I have no issues either so I can't imagine having these reboots is like.
They said the same thing for the VIP service here in Netherlands. Max 3 swaps, But some people already did swap #4

Try to format your external SD. Upgrade to Fr18Rom. If the problem cannot fix. Return the phone to LG. It‘s hardware issue.

I think some buggy apps and buggy kernel let your phone reboot or sleep dead.

Att lte hard brick help

I'm really sorry but your device is done. The skyrocket people haven't been able to fix this yet by using a jig or qualcomm tools.
Reading and researching is really important. You can't flash any p73xx rom to the i957, it will brick.
This is exactly why I have tried to get a separate forum for the i957, but that hasn't worked yet.
Hope you are under warranty or that is an expensive mistake.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I did the exact same thing you did. It is very confusing (Well not really, I just did'nt take my time to read). I was exhausted because I was very happy to have my new skyrocket and new lte tab. I researched and researched. I rooted, installed custom rom and kernel on my skyrocket. I then rooted my tablet and it was great. I then installed a custom rom for a 7300 on my i957 and Boom, gone. Luckily I was within my 30 day return policy. Everything in my home is either jailbroken, rooted, homebrewed, w/e. so I have somewhat experience.
But the combination of tiredness, excitedness, and what ever else comes along with getting new gadgets, I didn't pay attention and blew up my tablet.
Even with my experience and never bricking anything before, I bricked my tablet. I took it back to the store and making believe I never even heard about rooting, jailbreaking, homebrewing; the sales people tried starting it up and eventually they couldn't get it to start up. I got a new tablet, I told them I left the tablet charging overnight and left it charging when I went to work, because I forgot to disconnect it. When I got home from work it just didn't turn on.
Eventually they gave me a new tablet and said do not charge it for more than 8 hours. They said I was the first customer to ever return this tablet because it was defective (This tablet is a beast). I told them sure I learned my lesson.
When I went home, I rooted it lol and installed the oc kernel. Remember there are no roms for the 4g model.
Before I went back to the store where I purchased my phone&tablet, I found that there is a youtube store that fixes bricked phones and tablets (He has videos of him fixing them) but when I emailed him, he said their program does not support in unbricking the lte tablet. This was about a month ago so you can check to see if they support it now. I think to unbrick phones it was like 50-100 dollars (I forgot)
You are not alone, I made the same dumb mistake. Never do important stuff when you are tired or excited or anxious. Sorry man, good luck.
I may have put this in the wrong area it was late last night and I was frustrated. I tried putting a 7300 ROM on a 7300. I didn't try anything fancy lol. But I appreciate the responsses. You think I'll be able to take it back and see what they can do? Maybe they'll exchange it as if it was a defect? I'll take it there today. See if they will exchange.lesson learned for me. Lesson being wait for updates from Samsung. As slow as they are. Lol thanks for the input if anyone has the capability to fix this
Hit me up.

A 7300 rom on a 7300 should only soft brick. Can you get into download or recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
If you try to turn on your tablet and your screen turns on you can try to install the stock rom through odin again and it will work. There is a thread in this forums that explains how. If it is off and you turn it on and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens and it just stays with the black screen, no vibration or anything then it is hard bricked.
If it is hard bricked you can try to take it back and act dumb, not sure how long ago you purchased the tablet. If you are still within the 30 days you should be good because the sales people I took my tablet to did not have the machine to see how many times my device was flashed. If you are outside the 30 days they will tell you to send it to a samsung repair dealer (which I think they will see how many times the device has been flashed). Once you rooted your tablet it voids the warranty and they either do not have to fix it or will charge you an amount equal to your tablet. I did hear of cases where people with rooted tablets just returned it and they fixed it for free. I guess it dpeneds on anything else in life (How lucky are you?)
Yes you did put your question on the right place since this is for all the 8.9 tablets. (Thats the problem I came across with, I wish they make two forums for both tablets because they are in fact different.
Posting from my mobile so I didn't read your post again.
It is extremely rare but sometimes this can happen. Did you have repartition checked in Odin? If so that's bad.
There is something called qpst - qualcomm product support tools - that people are trying to get to work to fix hard bricks.

[Q] Help! Random Reboots on New Note

Hi,
Got a Note in the UK just last week, brand new, and within two days I flashed it to the German stock ICS update. I can't say that I noticed issues in the first few days, but that could be because I didn't get a lot of time with it.
Since then, however, now that it is all set up and configured, I'm noticing random spontaneous reboots during sleep on the device, anything between every 2 to 6 hours, no warning, just the phone suddenly flashing into life with the model splash screen, followed by startup animation.
Reading around I've followed all kinds of anecdotal cures... I've removed Apex Launcher and Widget Locker, and returned to TWLauncher and stock dialer. I've moved all my apps from external SD to phone internal and deleted App2SDpro. I've cancelled all automatic syncs. I'm not rooted and don't have any iffy software on it.
Does anyone please have any ideas on this?
No ideas?
Since the update mine does exactly the same thing. Sometimes it reboots after every hour or so but then sometimes it happens every 5 hours. Its completely random and has started happening since the ICS update.
Hmmm. I'm wondering if I should do another full install, or if this is a bug that will be absent in the official UK version of the new OS/firmware update.
I wonder if it is somehow specific to UK users?
It annoys the pants off me, because it will happen, then I'll delete a load of software and restart manually, then it will behave sometimes (like today) for 11-12 hours. And then it does it again. And again. I've had 12 hours between reboots from yesterday to today, and then today I've had three in four hours, including one after just an 11 minute interval, while the phone was on standby.
Is there anything that can be a 'variable' on an 'international' Note which might be an incompatibility in one territory but not another?
Sim? Network? Wifi?
I'm in UK, and was on German Ics official until today . Started experiencing fcs on random apps, from what I've read elsewhere that can be the start of a superbrick. I would highly recommend flashing back to stable GB immediately.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well... We may be seeing an improvement.
When I installed German ICS on my UK Note I did it as an upgrade. So yesterday afternoon I put the note to sleep and then rebooted into hard reset. I got myself a nice clean system and after lots of restoring files and reinstalling apps, I now have a Note that spent all night charging and hasn't restarted itself since 6am. It still could... But hasn't yet.
Something else odd I noticed...
When I first installed ICS (without tweaks, messing, only on stock ROM) and came to install SwiftKeyX for Phone it refused, allowing me only to install the tablet version... This depressed me a little because the skin I use is nicer on the phone version than tablet. Oddly, this time, after the reinstall, the note would only install the phone version of SwiftKeyX, and not the tablet.
Not sure what changed and why, but I can only imagine that something was broke and is now fixed...
Time will tell. I think battery might be a little better now too. And I use JuiceDefender.
If I get a full 24 hours without reboots I might dare to try App2SD again and move some apps to card storage.
So far so good.
Arse. 19 hours later and the reformed Note spoiled itself with a random reboot during sleep.
Back to the drawing board.
So is this a hardware or software fault. Its so new that I could do with knowing... I can insist it be swapped. But am I going to get the same again? Has anyone been able to trap this erroneous reboot in logs or anything? Do we know what it is?
Are there just a few of us, or many? Former would suggest hardware, latter could be software.
I'm having this issue too. We need help here

Perhaps it would be good idea to go back to your area GB also (following drKetan guides).
I had the same anectodal thing happening with my new note just when i purchased it. After 1..2 days it went grazy. Then it blacked totally out. But just by chance it woke up after resting without battery for a day.
Personally, I think, the cache should be cleaned - BUT i definitely will not recommend a wipe cache in LPY (though it worked with me - but then again, it COULD NOT work with you - and the loss... what a loss it would be). (worked with me - that means it did not brick my phone when i upgraded few days ago and that did not have anything to do with my troubles when I purchased the note (few months ago)).
I'm discouraged that there are either so few people suffering this that we're simply 'on our own' with it, or so many people who have it but have learned to accept it.
It seems preposterous to not have attention to such a big fault.
And I realised that I've seen this before, and have the sneaky feeling that it is a dirty little secret of Android....
I bought an ASUS Transformer last June. It had this issue from day one on Honeycomb. Random reboots at unpredictable times, at least two per day. Over the last 9 months it went back to ASUS three times and each time they 'fixed' something totally unrelated to the problem before eventually telling me that they had no replacement units to give me and were authorising a full buy back - a refund.
I had anecdotal indications that it only occurred when I had an SD card installed. That was my growing suspicion, but I now no longer have a unit to test it.
Other Galaxy range users have been reporting random or looped reboots, and have pinned blame on using an sd card, especially in conjunction with App2SD.
I have an HTC Flyer with an SD card installed, running App2SD, and have no random reboot problems. Its as solid as a rock on stock Honeycomb.
Similarly, though, some users have reported that their Galaxy phone model has random reboots relating to having a sim card installed...
You see where this is going. Its getting to the place where we're accepting that the only way our expensive device works is if we disable key functionality and surrender our expectations of its advertised features doing the job they were intended to.
It is scandalous that this device should malfunction as a result of using the advertised features, and that no fix would be found nor explanation offered.
I now have an SD in the unit, but have not moved apps with App2SD. I have established that the reboots occur with all three of my SD cards of varying sizes, soit is not caused by a corrupt or faulty SD... If it is caused by an SD at all, it is 'all' SD's. Since so many users have the Note with SD's installed, and they run perfectly, I can't believe there is an issue with SD cards, although I did wonder if the manufacturers are now phasing out SD slots in their devices because 'cloud computing' is all the rage, or rather because this volatility caused by SD in the now unfixable evolving Android code means that they are minimising their embarrassment by simply dispensing with the faulty variable.
I have also begun setting static IP's for all my stored wlan's in case this is a DHCP issue caused during momentary wakes from sleep for polling or sync. If only we had an app that could store, like a seismograph, a persistent record of device events which trigger the reboot and then capture the reboot events also. Closest I've found uses ram to store the events log and then blanks the log on reboot starting from the reboot instead of maintaining the record prior to the reboot.
Getting close to wits end with this, and now deeply regretting my purchase.
Nothing like this on my Xperia Arc S.
Even an iPhone is better than this!

And is it likely that it is the DE ICS release that just doesn't like UK devices? Why would that be so?

Maybe, yes.
Naivete, perhaps.
I'll tell you exactly why.
I had an Xperia Arc S on ICS which I loved. I was tempted by the Note. I bought one expecting a Samsung flavored ICS experience, and got tossed back to GB. I basically had 7 days to return the Note or learn to like it, and during that period DE f/w was released and I had to know...
Note was rebooted using static ip's and is nowraring to go...

But if that was when your phone was still new why didn't you just return it for a replacement rather than root and flash a phone that wasn't stable in the first place? For all you know it may be a hardware issue and likely so as I've not heard any apart from you and the op mention it.
Anyway, your phone, your call what you do with it but it makes no sense to me to blame the manufacturer and model when you've not even followed basic steps to deal with an issue.

prepare to send galaxy ace to warranty

Hello all, as tittle says I want to sent to warranty well I also have insurance, the reason is that the battery started to be inflated and it won't last more than a couple of hours on normal use
I have restored to original firmware from my carrier is there any other things to do? is there any flashcounters or something because I flashed the phone hundreds times
Thanks
Make sure you got stock recovery back.
Ace has a daily flash counte (5 or so flashes with odin per day), so it doesn't matter.
Good luck

Frustrated with Note 4

So, I've been using this wonderful device for a while now, since early October. I've finally got it set up the way I like it and all. Now, I'm just flashing ROMs to see which I prefer. Just a few hours ago, I decided to revert to the T-Mobile ANK3 (or AN-whatever) stock ROM because on Lollipop 5.0.1+ the battery dies much quicker than I'd like it to. Yet, that ROM would constantly either:
A) Die whenever it wanted to
B) Freeze and just not respond
C) Require a battery pull
D) Send me to D/L mode with "mmc_read fail".
So I decided to revert back to stock 5.0.1 because I was tired of all the bugs I was encountering with 4.4.4.
Now, every hour or so, the phone dies and gets stuck on the splash screen (with the obvious SEAndroid not enforcing + Set Warranty Bit). Or if it isn't that, the phone just outright freezes when I'm using a light application (i.e. Kik Messenger).
I'm starting to think that my eMMC is dying, because the phone was not acting like this when I first got it in early October. Every once in a while D/L mode keeps repeating my fears. I cannot send it in to Samsung because I already voided my warranty, and I am a prepaid subscriber on T-Mobile. (So, no, T-Mobile will not help me, likely.)
Any ideas on what's happening, or what I should do?
First thing I would do Is flash a different kernel
Odin back to stock and reroot the device. Sounds like something got messed up.

Although I really don't like it (because TW is now a good thing as opposed as to how bad it was on the S3), I'll settle with it. It's not so bad.

I bought the phone second hand, and it is out of warranty. I can't fork over money right now, as seeing how replacing the eMMC chip is probably expensive. I'll probably find some hackjob way of finding a replacement, or just live with it. I also don't think reflashing the bootloader will help.
Each time I power on the phone, it seems that it keeps getting worse each time. I get the "ddi: mmc_read fail" message more often, and off a cold boot, the phone will not actually boot and I have to battery pull like 2 times before it actually boots. Gee, looks like I'm screwed.
Good news...since they know that the eMMC chip is bugging out, they'll do a free repair. Success! Now, time to go into the repair shop and hope they accept my reference ticket, since I'll be a walk in.
I can't call right now, seeing as my phone has difficulty doing ANYTHING now...
