[Q] Sony Xperia Z Models - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I am new in this forum and I have a question regarding the Sony Z phone
From what I researched I found that Sony Z comes in 2 models C6603 and C6602.
My question is would it be possible to check the model on the phone itself?
I am trying to buy a use one from Craigslist.
Thank you in advance.

Do you mean without turning it on?
You could check under settings/about if you can turn it on
Or on the very bottom of the phone in small lettering, over top of the barcode if you mean on the phone itself

You have questions?
*#*#7378423#*#* -> Service Info -> Model info
or
*#*#7378423#*#* -> Service Info ->Software info -> Customization version

On the bottom of the phone, there's a barcode and some text. the first thing after "MADE IN CHINA" is the model numer, e.g. C6603

Hmmm, mine's actually C6616.

But different cell frequencies are supported between each. Flashing the firmware of the other doesn't change the supported frequencies.

thanks for the link dude. i preordered. im really hoping galaxy s4 is a let down so i get this phone
if gs4 turns out to be good i might go with that.
today i got a mail from gsmnation confirming that the c6602 is available for shipping, but after following the link to make the payment i see that the model in that cart is the c6502 (ZL) instead of the c6602, you could check it out following this link: http://www.gsmnation.com/sony-mobile-xperia-z-c6602-unlocked-black.html
anybody knows what happened? its the c6602 really available now?
Had the same issue with gsmnation, was signed up for preorder notice and got an email today saying it was ready for payment but the item in the cart is the C6502(ZL) and not C6602(Z). I sent then a message asking them to confirm whats going on so we shall see what happens. Been a struggle to find any place that even lists the C6602 as existing for preorder let alone purchase.

the c6602 model?? i think that it's not out yet
---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 PM ----------
Ok, i got news from GSMNATION.. too bad for it, here is the response i received a few seconds ago:
Hello Gabriel,
The ZL is a regional variant of the Z. It is effectively the same phone. Similar to the Xperia T and TX introduced a few months ago. The differences are minor and cosmetic.
IF anything, on a head to head comparison the ZL 6502 is a later release and a superior model to the Z 6602.
You may view the comparison here.
That having been said the misnomer has already been adjusted to avoid confusion.
Regards,
...
So in resume there will be no C6602 available in gsmnation, the preoder of the phone was a "mistake" and they refer to the ZL model instead of the Z one... misleading advertising?
Ok.. im so sad now.

The ZL is not a regional variant. They are two different phones using the same SoC and similar specs. Differences are more than cosmetic much more so than the TX vs T. Have to wonder what they are taking about.

yeah you can't take what these 3rd party retailers say word for word. they get stuff wrong all the time.
looking for a C6602 model myself for T-Mo.
Just checked gsmnation, is it just me or did they re-add the C6602 version up for pre order?
C6602 is now up on ebay.

For some reason they are listing the 6602 as not supporting T-Mobiles 1700 band for 3g even though the tech sheet for the 6602 says it should support it.
REALLY leary on ordering one if it doesnt support 1700, if I wanted a Xperia Z that didnt support Tmobile 3g I could have avoided the wait and just gotten the 6603.
*edit* It appears that some of the listings indicate no 1700 support and others do not.

I'm more than positive that they didn't update their FAQ's. The specification page on the same posting has HSPA with 1700/1900 so it does support it even with the new farmed spectrum T-Mobile has been doing. I already ordered mine, so I'll let you know if you are curious

Yeah I went ahead and ordered it as well, figured as long as it was the proper model number should be fine and if it isnt can use buyer protection to return it.

Anyone have a US Sony Store bought Xperia Z C6602 customization number

Title says it all. I am looking for the customization number for a C6602 Xperia Z bought from Sony directly in the US. Or perhaps the FTF for it. Just looking for the US model from Sony direct (as some other online retailers in the US have been selling unauthorized imported models)
According to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287283 the customisation number for Generic US 6602 handsets is 1271-0119.

I'm aware of that thread but there is no confirmation anywhere in it that the ones listed as US generic were bought from the Sony store in the US. I want to be sure its from Sony not sold by another retailer like newegg or amazon.

It says right in the first line of the thread that the lists are based on official information from Sony.
Apart from that, I don't know what other confirmation you need or can even find around here.

[Q] Can I use Xperia Z in Japan?

Hello,
I've bought unlocked Sony Xperia Z here in UK last summer and I'm going to Japan for holiday this autumn. Do you have any idea if it's going to work or not? If yes with which networks (I would like to get local sim card)? I know that there use to be some limitations but I couldn't find anything definite regarding this phone.
Thanks for your time.

Xperia can't connect to 3G networks

Hello, I've just buyed an C6603 Xperia Z from the infamous Aliexpress, it arrived perfect, but at the beggining I saw that the phone just connected at 3g(Wcdma) if I put band mode on Wcdma only and made a networks search.
On chin of the phone, where it does have labelled the imei number, L36h is written on it, but on the sticker of the box it shows that is C6603 version that it would work just fine here in Spain. Also tried with different Fw's installed with FlashTool , such as C6603 .283, .230, and 4.2.2 Fw, and C6602 .283.
Don't know what the problem is here, if someone can help, I will be happy again.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?
