Kies, Drivers, Phone or something else? What else I should try? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Friends! I won't take much time. I bought online Samsung Galaxy S III mini I8190 yesterday from a trusted source, since that time I'm trying to connect it with PC (obviously not continuously), I want to mention here during mission impossible I was having rich accessories 2 PCs, 2 Laptops, 4 Data Cables, so achieving that (mission impossible) what I've been already trying over and over again is like this :-
Installed Kies on PC, Connected mobile with PC, Kies didn't notice anything , Windows 7 32bit noticed and informed me "USB Device Not Recognized."
Unplugged mobile, from mobile's SETTINGS -> ABOUT DEVICE->SOFTWARE UPDATE-> YES! UPDATE ..... Unfortunately I got message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"
I rebooted mobile into ODIN mode, Where Product Name :- GT-I8190, Custom Binary Downloads : Yes (1 counts), Current Binary : Samsung Official, System Status : Official
I connected mobile with PC in Odin mode and windows started installing Android device driver , ODIN recognized my device, I close ODIN in pc , reboot mobile
Repeat process 1 to 4 , when mobile is in normal mode windows never recognize my device either Kies detect any device attached with PC which i find logical. All I want to be able to connect with KIES (through USB cable, for a specific reason ) knowing that I CAN, may finally connect it via WiFi
Any suggestion, advice will be appreciated. I've been already shared all the information if someone still need more, just ask
Thanks in advance , about poor English , I'm not native English

Unfortunately I got message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"

it seems that your device is rooted (the owner before flashed a rooted ROM on it).
To get Custom Binary Count 0 and Update via Kies you have to flash stock ROM via Odin (you will loose all your data on internal SD-card)
You get latest stock Firmware HERE.
Type "GT-I8190" in the search-field and you will find the firmware of your country.
After flashing make a full reset in settings.
Good luck.

Sorry I've been busy and couldn't get on xda... thanks for your help JakoMJ, I'm sure device isn't rooted ( I checked through root checker app ) I downloaded stock Firmware of my country from the link you provided in your reply, and flashed it via Odin successfully, after factory rest / Hard reset issues are still there
Custom Binary Count Yes 1
Kies doesn't detect my phone

You need root and reset custom binary count with triangle away before you flash new fw, otherwise it will never return to official.

How come? it's already showing Official when i boot it in download mode? Do you think I should root my phone.
And install triangle to fix Binary count numbers.? What do you think? resetting Binary count form 1 to 0 will resolve the issue with Kies as well ?

Yes. You will never be able to go 100% official with a binary count.
It might not be rooted now, but I guess it was as some point, and previous owner didn't restore it.
Root it, install cwm recovery through rommanager.
Run triangle away to reset binary count.
Flash stock recovery in cwm.
Flash stock firmware in odin.
Make a factory reset.
You will now be official and no binary download.
Run kies or ota.

No Luck I tried avicohh method to root my device , Odin always getting FAILED I would like to mention here that I've been trying various versions of odin, I also tried SAMSUNG GALAXY SIII ROOT TOOLKIT , it doesn't recognize my phone either, Actually When my phone is in normal mode WINDOWS never detects it , keeps giving error USB device malfunctioned etc... I uninstall UnKNOWN device driver from Device Manager. Beside this whenever I connect it in download/ ODIN mode , windows don't have problem at all recognizing my phone which i can't understand why, Logically when windows doesn't recognize my phone there's no point Kies would recognize it, what do you say about it ?
Okie Some how I made it working honestly I have no idea how i did make it working anyways lol it just started flashing according to Avicohh method,

Well, something made it fail.
Use odin 3.04.
Take a look in your pc's taskmanager that nothing with kies is running. If so, close it.
Open odin again, connect phone in download mode and try again.
Kies always makes odin fail.

Nope. It should be at zero now. Take a look with triangle away and see what it says. Now, if you want cwm on your phone... download rommanager and install cwm without having to mess with binary count or system modified issues

I read the thread you provided in your link , it was enough for having basic information about Triangle Away app, But maybe you didn't get my point , When i see status of Binary count from Triangle Away it shows me 0, Official. And when i see status of Binary count from Download / ODIN mode it shows me 1, Official, Both are different ? I didn't rest caz of instructions given in Triangle Away that status should be equal from both side , Triangle away and Download mode , which is not same, anyway i clicked now rest flash counter in triangle away , process was successful , yet in download mode binary count is :1,
in triangle away binary count is : 0,
which means clicking REST FLASH COUNTER actually did nothing

maybe because you dont't have stock recovery on your phone, but cwm instead .
from the triangle away thread...
"- My counter always stays at 1
Some devices/bootloaders set the counter to 1 at every boot if you are running a custom kernel or recovery. On these devices, Triangle Away may always display 1 - make sure to check the counter in actual download mode, and make sure you are running a stock Samsung kernel and recovery."

I don't have cwm recovery anymore , I followed tys0n's instructions from here
Triange Away now supports I8190 (SIII mini)
Big thanks to Chainfire for update, and infected_ for doing the beta test so we all can be safe! Give him a thanks!!

Finally I decided to give up, Which I guess is better than having a bricked device, No matter what I do , kies won't detect my phone, Triangle away shows Binary count 0, and when i see it from phone's download / Odin mode it shows 1.... ( I gaveup because I dont wana risk having a bricked phone instead of a phone which kies not detecting ) I might start using Kies Air for data transfer or probably a software which was already installed on my computer called MOBOROBO (Which i've been used for Motorola Artix 4G., I was surprised I just opened it and it recognized my phone , model , etc... and ready to go transfer data ....
Thanks A lot everyone ( Specially Tys0n) you tried best to help me out maybe i couldn't follow your instructions perhaps that's why I couldn't resolve my issues.

For what tasks you need Kies?
For contacts there is google sync, it always works for me.
For music/files transfer from PC to phone and back you can use ES file explorer, it works over wifi and you can work from PC's browser or from phone. For large/lot of files cable and explorer drag/drop.
Is Kies capable of doing anything else, I don't have it and don't know what can be done with it.

I have no idea why it shows a count of one in download mode, but triangle away tells you it at zero. If you got everything stock, then all should show zero.
Maybe it's better you ask Mr chainfire himself in original thread or search the thread for a solution. Good luck.

Can't flash with Odin - Please help!

I have been trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for a week now with no success.
First off, it has a lot of problems connecting when I am in download mode. It has no problem at all when the phone is fully booted up, but Odin has a really hard time seeing it while the phone is in download mode. I have to restart the phone several times into download mode and pull the cable, etc until I can finally get Odin to see it.
Once I get Odin to finally see the phone in download mode I loaded the PIT and the PDA files from the tutorial for DarkyROM_10.2_Resurrection.
But when I hit start is just stops here:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
And will not go any further.
I originally rooted with one click, but I am afraid I might have messed that up. After I did the one click I was messing around with the phone and formatted the internal memory from the download screen. I even went back into one click to try to unroot, but it gives me an error message.
Did I mess up my phone? Is there any way to fix this?
have you ever succeeded in flashing with odin or first time?
have you closed all kies programs from task manager? (do you even have it installed?)
if you have win7, have you opened odin with right click menu->as administrator?
what ver. of odin do you use?
maybe the cable is faulty?
did you connect it directly to the comp or by some hub? (better connect directly)
guy7685,
No, I have never flashed before. This is the first time.
I tried running Odin as system admin, made no difference.
I do not have Kies installed.
I'm pretty sure the cable is good, it works fine for everything else including data transfer on my other phone, just not in download mode for this phone.
I've tried a few different versions. v1.30, v1.83, v1.85
When I tried in in v1.83 & v1.85 I get a fail, then this message:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Any thoughts?
If you have another computer you can try it on, do that otherwise I think you need to install the drivers again. You can search for them or you can install them via kies. Once you have kies installed go to tools and install drivers.
Remember that before you open Odin you go through task manager to close all kies processes.
Good luck

Got it to work
I was finally able to get it to work. I think I was using the wrong recovery screen or at least what I thought was a recovery screen because I finally got the guy in the construction picture and it flashed no problem with Odin.
After Odin Succes
Everything is ok and all thred completed (succesd 1 / failed 0)
After this, my galaxy tries to reboot but it only shows the flashing battery and will not reboot itself.
Help!

i had this similar problem before installing a custom kernel on a stock ics and i bricked my phone but i managed to fix it with a pit file and dr.ketan' s pre rooted gb rom then flashed a ics from there.
Now i cant even flash dr. ketan prerooted gb rom because its stuck at nand write please help T.T

i am not able to flash that kernel its stuck at setup connection
if it stucks, just unplug the USB cable, then plug it back in, and ODIN would readily detect that.
If not still use a different USB port to plug it to.

but sometimes it nand write stuck T.T
First find a steady USB signal in one of your USB ports.. Plug to that port (to clear the issue on stuck in setup connection), The problem in the stuck connection you have is that Odin can't find a strong usb signal to send to, to your phone. Try using a different usb port (not a usb hub if your using one), then follow the previous post on top -#2 link.
Worst case scenario on your issue would to be, to take your phone back to SSC and have them replace the mobo... Your phone just got hit by the brick bug bud

can you post that link you were told to flash the kernel to? That link might be an outdated one already. Anyway the point now is how to revive your brick phone. In download mode, try to flash back to stock GB and again make sure your plug to one of the usb port on your PC and make sure 'Reset time' is tick in PC Odin. After you got the stock GB in place in the 'PDA' part, try to reflash the stock firmware again.

Is your phone rooted before? You can't make any nandroid backup if your phone is rooted. Now given if your phone still has root on it. What was the last kernel that your phone was using?
Please bear in mind, you need to really understand the instructions presented on that link I gave you. If it helps that you need to read it from the start of that thread down to the very end, then do so. It's the only alternative way I can advice you to revive your brick phone.
Now the other second option though would be (like I've said earlier), to send it back to Samsung.
Those are your only two options....
i used pit for repartition now when i boot it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again but i cant seem to connect my phone with kies? it just say connecting.... stuck there..
You will most likely need a motherboard replacement... sorry

Messed up SGS3 4G - Root failed, can't start phone - Wiped everything.

Recently I used ODIN 3.0.7 to try and root my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Telia) 4G with a so-called "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4".
It is the 16 GB, 2 GB RAM 4G/LTE version, and it was running at Android 4.1.2 when I tried to do the root.
The phone booted up fine and ODIN claimed it was a success, I immediately noticed that the phone had stopped recognizing my SIM card, and the Root Checker also stated that something was wrong and it wasn't rooted. so I download a stock ROM and try to install that, however when I choose the SD card to try and install it, it says no files are found.I had made it to the CWM Recovery tool on the phone, and I could start the phone that way ("Reboot Phone Now", but it still didn't recognize my stuff, so I tried following the stock ROM instructions I was given, and I wiped all data, cache and stuff after backing it up on my PC in the CWM recovery tool.
Now, at this point, the phone is stuck at "Downloading - Do not turn off target!". When I try turning it off, the screen goes black for 2 seconds, and then the screen appears again. If I am quick, I can get into the "ODIN" mode, where I can once again try and root it. It fails again, but now I get to the CWM Recovery Tool again, but no files are found at all, and if I reboot the phone, it just goes back to the Downloading screen (I left it on overnight and it stayed on that screen, by the way. I doubt it is ACTUALLY downloading anything).
I do not know the Kernel or ROM version. The phone was bought in the start of February, though, so I could imagine it's rather new.
What do I do now? I just wish to get my phone back to normal Android, normal everything even if it means a factory reset.
You need to goto the NV backup sticky thread in the dev section that I put together, look near the bottom.
Download the param binary and flash with odin to revive your device.

Hello, I followed the guide and flashed the phone with the param with ODIN, however, the phone is still stuck on its "Downloading - Do Not Turn Off Target!" screen (though it is not showing the ODIN mode at the corner anymore.

Right now you need to read then run this via odin from you PC...

You probably corrupted your efs partition by flashing a CF Root not intended for your phone. The CF Root is for SGS3 not I9305 LTE.

This did it, thank you!
Time to reinstall a lot of apps, and be more careful with the root I pick.. ;_;
You already have root with this rom
Hello again, sorry for sort of necroing.
So I got it running again, there is one nasty problem, though - The phone won't recognize my SIM card, meaning that it simply doesn't register that there is one.
I'd guess the phone warranty is void at this point, so what do I do? Is there any DIY fix?

[Q] Unrooted Note stuck on Boot screen, Help

Hello, I've had my Galaxy Note GT-N7000 for about a year now. I've never rooted it before.
This morning I was browsing my phone and it just shut off and went to the "Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000" boot screen.
I saw on other forms instructions on how to hard reset the N7000 (Remove battery, put back in, then hold Volume up, Power and Home button, then it gives you a menu to choose from)
When I do that it doesn't give me a menu screen, It just goes to the boot screen I described above, or it goes to the little green android man with the rotating object in him, then back to the (GT-N7000) boot screen a few minutes later.
I have a macbook, so I can't use the odin program. (Nor would I know how)
I don't mind wiping all the data from my phone and restarting from the beginning.
I have all the stuff I need (phone numbers) stored on my google account. And I can redownload my main apps I liked.
Any ideas?
Update
I have a windows computer I can use, so I want to use Odin to put the normal firmware back on my phone.
I am having a hard time finding the USA firmware for the GT-N7000. I have been looking all around but cannot seem to find it.
Can anybody help me out?
Check in Samfirmware.com.
No USA firmwares

Thank you very much I'll go ahead and use the UK one since it will boot in English then.
Any tips on using Odin? Or things I should do or avoid? I don't want to brick my phone by accident.
Use the rom in pda. Don't tick anything else other than default.
You sir, are awesome.

Thank you! That was exactly what I needed to know!
I'm currently downloading the ROM, I will update after I've used ODIN.
Also my phone is at 100% battery in preparation since people said to make sure it was charged before flashing.
Slight Problem...
I'm using Odin v1.85 following the instructions above and it has gotten stuck on "NAND Write Start!" for the past 15 minutes.
It doesn't seem like it is going to do anything. What should I do?
Still? Wait for some more time. Then kill kies processes and run odin as administrator. Boot into download mode again. And try.
I'm windows inept

I waited about 15 more minutes then held the power button to turn it off. So now it's off and charging again.
These may be really really dumb questions, but:
1) how do i kill kies processes?
2) And how do I run as administrator?
Sorry, I'm sorta windows inept since I've been using a macbook for the past 5 years.
Open task manager and check anything related to kies. Also make sure samsung usb drivers are properly installed. If not or in doubt, download and install kies first. Then plug the phone in and with for the drivers to install.
On the phone and check what is the message on screen, if it's a firmware recovery screen the try connecting with kies recovery option. If still stuck on logo, kill all kies process. Right click on odin and run as administrator. The put phone on download and flash.
Trying it soon
I didn't have kies installed, so I am installing it right now. So once that is installed I will try it out and let you know if it works :fingers-crossed:
Updating right now
I just started updating at 10:28
I downloaded Kies, and the screen wasn't in emergency recovery, so I killed all kies processes and then i put my phone into download mode and started ODIN v1.85 as an administrator and plugged in my phone.
By 10:29 it hit <ID:0/004> NAND Write Start!!
It's 10:45 and it's still on NAND Write Start!!

There must be problem with emmc. Use the pit file method to install correctly. Flash the pit file first with re-partition ticked and others un-ticked. See if it goes successful. Then flash your PDA with re-partition un-ticked and reboot and reset ticked.
Is there any certain pit file thread that you would point me towards?
I been looking and I found a couple, but they all vary a little and I really really don't want to brick my phone.

Right now I'm flashing the pit file first with re-partition ticked and others un-ticked.
What should I do if it gets stuck at <ID:0/005> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!?
It's been at that step for about 7 minutes now, and I just want to know what I should do in case it doesn't move past that.

I've been flashing it for about 20 minutes now, using the pit file with only re-partition ticked. It hast't moved past <ID:0/005> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Should i be worried, or does re-partitioning with the pit file take a long time?
Was I supposed to have the PDA file in there too while flashing, or just the pit file? I really hope I didn't f this up...
I don't want a really expensive paper weight
DEAD
It was sitting there flashing with the pit file and my friend threw a ball at me and it hit the usb cable and it unplugged my phone from the computer. Then the computer wouldn't recognize my device anymore. I tried to turn my device back into download mode to restart the process but it won't even turn on or show that it is charging when plugged in.
I guess this is the end
Unless anybody out there is a miracle worker.

[Q] Need

Currently using my first android device! Samsung galaxy note 3 for att and I decided to root it. I am currently running 4.3 but want to update to 4.4 in hopes of fixing some gps issues i've been having. I tried to use ODIN to load up the stock 4.3 firmware but have been encountering some errors. My phone no longer turns on, when it does it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I have downloaded keys 3 and tried to recover it using that but no luck. Am willing to post screens or answer any questions you guys may have!.
Are you on 4.4.2 or 4.3? If you're on 4.3, have you tried the MJ5 restore posted in the general section?

Im on 4.3. I've only tried using Odin and kies which have both failed me. what im about to try is "androidrootz.com/2013/10/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-note-3.html".. can you link to your suggestion?
I'm not sure how to copy/paste links with Tapatalk, but if you go to the general sub form for the AT&T Note 3 on this website it should be on the first page. Look for a thread titled "MJ5 restore and optionally provides root" or something along those lines. It's a somewhat long process that can be intimidating at first, but if you read the directions and follow them exactly you should be good to go.
