Rogers releases system update 1.29.631.17 17.13MB

when i try to update itboots me straight into CWM Recovery. when i chose the zip file it still doesnt work. someone make this flashable please

For OTA-Updates u need stock Recovery

is there a way to flash it without putting my phone back to stock and relocking bootloader?

U have to flash the matching Stock Recovery (dont know where to find here atm) for your Device, then the OTA should work (i think you´re on stock ROM since u got the OTA?)

Oh, I am using twrp to flashing it now.
It took so long, still nothing happen until now.

If you are trying to flash the ota zip then it won't work unless you have the stock recovery on your phone, any custom recoveries will prevent ota updates been applied.

So, i just need Hasoon's tool to flash the stock recovery is good to go?

Yes, hasoons ToolKit should work, u have to download the correct Stock Recovery and copy it to the correct folder for the ToolKit, than let the ToolKit flash it.
Easier way would be to download it, copy it to your ADB-Folder (e.g. C:\Android\) and flash it via cmd as described in the tutorials out here.

I can update he latest one, but it freeze at the end.
It went through the whole bar, but it stopped at the end.
Wait for 10 mins and nothing happen.

I have a similar question: I have a Rogers HTC One, but I'm currently running the Telus ROM. I cannot install the update. Can I install Telus stock recovery and update, or do I have to go back to Rogers stock ROM and Stock recovery? If that's the case, where can I find them. They seem to be unavailable.

[Q] sense 6 OTA not working

Hello,
I have 4.4.2 installed on my One. I had rooted it with custom recovery. But as sense 6 is there I un-rooted it, locked it properly and removed tampered flag. Installed stock recovery and also put it in S-ON.
I can download OTA but while installing it is failing. It is showing red triangle and restarting it.
Can somebody help me to proceed further? If I go to HTC, will they update it?

I think , preload file is wiped when u unlocked ur device

I am trying manually update it. But in recovery after red triangle it is restarting even after I press power and volume up button. So I am not reaching to recovery selection menu.

Did you flash the proper version of stock recovery? it Must be the same version as your phones currently installed OS.

Yes, it is the same version. I have kitkat 4.4.2 India version. I got it from some other thread.

Your problem is the current ROM is not 100% stock, some files are missing especially the preload.
1. What is your current software version no. ?
2. unlock the bootloader again and flash TWRP
3. flash a stock ROM.zip of your version no. or restore a proper nandroid backup
4. reboot and do the normal setup
5. reboot to bootloader
6. flash the stock recovery
7. reboot and do the OTA
So ... solve the no. 1 first.

Hey,
My software version number is 4.20.707.7 with HBOOT 1.56. I don't have stock ROM readily available anywhere like htc1guru etc., so I am downloading it from one of the xda thread.
Now
I will install TWRP,
reset stock ROM (there is also an option of installin stock recovery) once my download finishes.
Then again will lock boot loader,
put S ON back
update sense 6 OTA.

1. There is another file that you need to flash after that ROM zip.

2. There is no need to lock boot loader and put S-On back (if now is S-Off) to do OTA update
Only stock recovery is needed

You have to "Full unroot" in SuperSU settings and restore the stock recovery. Otherwise OTA will fail. After the OTA is installed, You can easily return to TWRP and flash SuperSU.

okay thanks! also instead of twrp could I use chainfire again?

Unfortunately, i tried to install OTA and now every time i turn on my phone it reboots and tries to install 5.02 only to get an error and it stays at twrp menu. So what can i do now?

lol after many reboots phone decided to tell me that update was unsuccessful so it works again.

I made the same mistake trying to flash OTA 5.02 over rooted device 4.4.4 . I got out of the loop by moving the download zip from system/cache to external sd...
just wanting to make sure I do all the right things and in order:
so in Super SU I go the FULL UNROOT
how do I then restore stock recovery?
Once I I have restored it what are the steps for the zip and install via stock recovery?
sorry about the boring questions - it's still a bit of a jungle for a beginner

Sure. But why? Twrp is superior in every aspect. It's like deliberately crippling your toaster so that only one slice fits.

Nice imagination.
But why do I often read that TWRP will be overwritten by Lollipop with custom recovery when rebooting the phone? Some people therefore recommend the Chainfire CF-Auto-Root instead.
So after unlocking bootloader can I flash TWRP in fastboot mode and superSU afterwards without those kind of problems?

It's a "feature" introduced by google for their nexus. I will quote the twrp website:
The stock ROM will automatically replace TWRP with the stock recovery. To prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP, boot TWRP, go to the mount menu and mount system, press the home button, then press Advanced ->File Manager. Browse to /system and select the file named recovery-from-boot.p then choose to rename the file to recovery-from-boot.bak
Or you flash the SuperSU.zip. That will prevent the override too.

Thx a lot for your explantion.
This was one of the things that irritated me right from the start when I was checking out the possibilities of custom recovery/root within 5.0.
I heard about the file-renaming thing but didn´t realize that superSu will do the job too and that it is a Nexus "feature" at all.

[Q] OTA Updates on Rooted XT1095 (Stock Recovery)

I recently followed this guide to root my XT1095. All I did was unlock my bootloader and boot the image...I did not (intentionally) alter my recovery, nor did I install a custom ROM. Will I still receive OTA update notifications and, if so, are they safe to apply?

If you are running a custom recovery TWRP for example, I doubt that you will get OTA updates. I believe you need the stock recovery to be able to install OTA updates.

I'm a little confused by your response. As I said in my original question, I did not (intentionally) alter my recovery. Did the method that I used achieve root alter my recovery for me?

If you did not install a custom recovery than you should be able to get OTA updates. Check to see what recovery you have.

As long as you don't make any changes to /system, you *should* be good to go for updates. If you didn't intentionally flash a custom recovery then you still have the stock one.

If you're rooted OTAs won't work. In KitKat and lower they just performed checksums on each file before updating, so the altered root files were left untouched and the update installed. In Lollipop and up (at least for Nexus devices), it does a total checksum and if /system has been altered in any way (including for root) OTA's won't install.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I booted into recovery and saw this, so I think my recovery is still stock. One quick question: when I boot into fastboot and select "Recovery", I get a dead Android and a "No Command" prompt - I had to follow these steps to actually get there. Why is that?
I'd like to try out Xposed now that it's available for my device, and I see that requires a custom recovery. If I install a custom recovery (TWRP, for instance) and use it to flash Xposed, can I then revert back to stock recovery and continue to receive OTA updates?

If you modified your system with Xposed you won't be able to install OTA updates. Even if you return yo stock recovery.
To install an OTA you need three things. 1. Unaltered system, 2.no root and 3. stock recovery

Fair enough. So let's say that I install a custom recovery and then Xposed. Will there be a way that I can manually upgrade to new stock OS versions as they come out for my phone?

You can always flash a ROM or custom ROM via fast boot, but you will loss all your settings, apps etc because you are flashing an entire new system... The OTA only patches

The only way back is to flash your stock ROM if you can get a hold of it.

So, funny story - this weekend I accidentally wiped my OS and had to flash stock ROM to get back up and running. See: here. Good resource for others who might be looking for Moto X 2014 stock Lollipop firmware...definitely saved that on my computer

Isn't there any way to uninstall Xposed, revert back to original recovery and remove root--all in order to install OTA without completely loosing user data and apps installed?

if your phone is 5.0 xt1095 and you didn't flash modems you should be able to receive OTA.

I'm not sure I completely understand what I need to do to get updated to 5.1. I have an XT1095 that I only rooted, no custom recovery. I downloaded the OTA for 5.1 last night and tried to update. Got an error and it did not update. A quick google search seems to state, as well as earlier in this thread, that I can not update if I am rooted. I would prefer not completely start over on my phone (wipe) and would like to just apply the update. Can I just "unroot" my phone and apply the update or do I have to go back to the beginning (with a stock recovery) before the update will take?
I know enough about all this to have followed the directions to accomplish the root about 7 months ago. Since then not played with any system files! The only reason I rooted was so I could use the full capabilities of Greenify. Any opinions on that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

It's more difficult with Lollipop: updates now "look for" a completely stock unmodified unrooted system. So you'll have to flash a stock image of the current build and then take the OTA.

[Q] Where can I find Tmobile US Stock Recovery 6.10.531.10?

I am trying to find the stock recovery for T-mobile US 6.10.531.10 (NOT 6.10.531.9) . Does anybody has it or point me on the right direction? I want to update my phone through OTA so I can get lollipop however I cannot find the stock recovery.
I am S-On all stock except for the recovery, I had TWRP so I can make backups. Now I want to install back the stock recovery so i can upgrade but I don't seem to find it anywhere. I managed to find the RUU but the recovery image is not inside the "rom.zip" on my Temp folder when I run it. These are the only files that it shows:
android-info.txt
dzdata_16g.hdr
dzdata_32g.hdr
dzdata_64g.hdr
tp_HMX852XD.img
boot_signed.img
dzdata_16.img
dzdata_32.img
dzdata_64.img
Am I missing something? Please help. I have tried to find it the whole day with no luck.

just run the Lollipop RUU, same as the OTA but its the full thing rather than an OTA: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-t-mobile/news/ follow the manual update instructions, download is at the bottom.
edit: it will wipe your phone, so backup anything you want to keep first.

Seanie, thank you for your reply. I need the stock recovery because precisely I was trying to avoid wiping my phone. I am just a very small step away to be able to update without wiping, I just can't find this stock recovery. Why is it that the recovery.img it is not inside the rom.zip RUU? Am I missing something?
Currently I flashed the stock recovery 6.10.5310.9 and i tried to install the OTA but when it gets to the recovery it looks like it starts installing moving the green line a little bit but soon after I get a red triangle and stops, which I am assuming it is because i do not have the proper recovery.
Any help so i do not need to wipe will be greatly appreciate it.

ok, you cant take it out of the RUU.zip as its an encrypted RUU, so take it out of the OTA.
download the OTA as normal, but select install later, then plug your phone into the computer and copy the OTA.zip to your computer from your phone, its in the internal storage, downloads folder, its just a zip file, so once its on your computer, open it with WinRAR or whatever you use to open zip files and in there you will see firmware.zip, open that too and take out recovery.img, flash it like any other recovery, then reboot and try and update again.
If the OTA then fails again, it will be down to modified system files or root, you will have no choice but to backup and use the full RUU.

oh I see. Thank you very much...quick question though: I am currently on version 6.10.513.10 the OTA is to upgrade to version 7.18.513.2, if i extract the recovery from this OTA i will be flashing the 7.18. recovery, isn't? Don't I need the recovery from 6.10 in order to be able to upgrade? If so, this is why i was looking also for the 6.10.513.10 OTA but I cannot find it.

the OTA will check to see if you have 6.10.513.10 or 7.18.513.2 recovery, cant be anything earlier than those 2, current or previous, recovery update by the OTA will just be skipped.

I see! Great news! Good to know. So the OTA can be install with a newer stock recovery (matching the OTA I presume).
I am currently at work without my cell phone but I will try this, as soon as I get back home and post the results.
One last thing, to flash the stock recovery is as simple as "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (or whatever the recovery file .img name is), correct?
I do not need to lock the bootloader in order to upgrade using the OTA as long as everything else is still stock. ...I do have root though, but I also read that this shouldn't be a problem either, correct?

No need to lock the bootloader for an ota, root might be a problem as it modifies system files, just give it a go, and yes, the flash of the recovery is the same as any other recovery file.

Seanie, all went as expected! It worked. I was able to extract the recovery.img file from the firmware.zip inside the 7.18 OTA zip file that was downloaded to the internal storage. Then proceed to flash it as any other recovery with fastboot. Afer that, the OTA update installed with o problem. Having root did not mattered. I did have to root it again though.
