Samsung I9000 New rom? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys! So i have got a problem, i want flash a new firmware but the user that had this phone before has allready flashed a new firmware...
It is an old 2.2 FW but i want a 4.3 FW. However what should i do now? Its rooted allready, and there is a old recovery installed(no option to flash roms)

At first you have to flash a Custom Recovery Mode. For example CWM or TWRP.
Then you can flash your Custom Rom.
Just use Google an you will find an instructions.

For the best experience you can flash it to the latest stock ROM via ODIN, install CF-Root (contains CWM too) and then upgrade to CM 10.2 with fullwipe

Just go to the forum and search cyanogenmod 10.2 from ADC team then they will provide the link to install the CWM. You can install CWM through odin (makesure u got the right odin). Follow strictly the instruction that is provided by the forum
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app

I think there are only Roms by the ADC-Team for the I9001 and not the I9000.

Here is a instruction ...step by step ...hope it can help

General questions on rooting and flashing roms on note

Im just stating here that I will generally know what you are talking about, im not a noob when it comes to android modding/roms/rooting, however i have always been worried with my note because ive seen lots of threads on devices being bricked.
basically i want to root my note, get CWM recovery onto it, and then flash whatever ROM/s i choose, without getting my phone bricked in the process.
i want someone to advise me on the best way to go about this whole thing, thankyou!
my device:
Samsung galaxy note (not sure if international or not, i bought from kogan.com.au, i live in australia, and have a telstra sim in it, however i think kogan ships the intl model)
android version: 4.0.3 ICS (stock)
baseband: N7000XXLPT
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.15-N7000XXLPY-CL474507
BUILD NUMBER: IML74K.XXLPY
carrier: telstra (prepaid, and phone is unlocked)
the main confusion i have here is finding the correct threads for my kernel version, however i couldnt find what i wanted, and was unsure of which was safest, so thanks all for helping me out!

Hello Good Dr. I am about to try rooting via method 1.Rooting with stock recovery. After this am i correct in saying I should flash notecore kernel ? I would be using Mobile Odin to do this as I dont have Windows PC.
What would be safest method to get to ParanoidAndroid JB or CM10 JB from there ? After the Kernel is flashed. Would I have to downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom first then flash ParanoidAndroid ? So your method 1 > flash kernel > downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom > ParanoidAndroid ?
Kind Thanks.
If you want to downgrade to prerooted rom then no need to get root, except you have no option to use pc. In this condition just root n use mobile odin to flash prerooted rom. After successful flashing wipe cache n data and flash cusyom ROM.

So please just to clarify Dr.ketan. If I follow your method 1 to root my ICS Note and then I flash safe notecore kernel via Mobile Odin then I could flash ANY custom rom ? No need to flash a pre-rooted GB rom ? If this is correct would I need to wipe cache and data before flashing custom rom ? Please could you clarify which cache I should wipe ?
Thank you very much.
[Resolved via DM. Thanks Dr.Katan]
After flashing note core.you can.flash custom rom if that is ics based.
Otherwise i recommend to flash preroored gb rom first and wipe all (cache, data and delvic cache)

Can I flash pre-rooted gb rom with mobile odin ? do I need a tar file or will it work with zip ? or should I use recovery mode and a zip ?
Thank you.
Stephen
Mobile odin can't flash zip.recovery.files. You can flash tar file, and prerooted gb rom is in tar. You can use mobile odin for that

Well guys. It looks like my flashing rom days are over before they have begun !
Tryed flashing the pre-rooted GB rom via Mobile Odin. This is what I get http://twitpic.com/an6zbi
This isnt right is it. Surely the other sections should be filled in not just System ? This is a real problem as I dont have Windows and can get my head around Heimdall. Im stumped. Is there a file I can use via Restore to install the rom ?
Hope someone can help !

I have read a lot but I'm still a bit confused...
Hello dear friends,
I'm just a newbie here, so please be patient ...
1) I'm planning to root+CWM my n7000 and also (and finally) want to flash CM9.1 (stable) on it. Right now I'm on GB 2.3.6 (not directly rootable) it's ZSLA2... for what I understand from Dr. Ketan's rooting guide is that I have to first downgrade the device flashing a pre-rooted+CWM'ed GB ROM from Chainfire..... ok, no problem.... but, my main question is: once I already have this pre-rooted gingerbread rom, can I (must I) do a hard reset/wipe prior to flash a custom rom?... and, can I FINALLY and DIRECTLY flash the CM9.1 + Gapps files from that chainfire's gingerbread rom version/kernel?... or do I have to upgrade again to a new GB ROM and then flash the CM?.... or even further: do I have to upgrade to a newer GB ROM then to an ICS ROM and only then I would can flash the CM file??....
2) The obligated dumb question: Once I finally flash CM9.1 ROM, it's a must (or a recommended practice) to flash a safe kernel like Franco, Speedmod, Notecore (for safety and/or performance)??
Thank you for your time! cheers

1. always advisable to do all three wipes ( data , cache, dalvik) in CWM if you are on GB and planning to flash another rom from there.
--- yes, you can directly go from pre-rooted Gb to CM 9.1 with g apps
--- when you are on CM and want to go to a custom ics then best to follow the method specified in opening post of the rom thread by developer. all CM kernels are safe to wipe and flash from generally...
2 . Franco , notecore, speedmod are all Touchwiz kernels. a CM rom will not boot with it, its not compatible.there are other CM kernels available that you can use with it, refer kernel repository by Chasmodo

TW and Cm roms have varied/different and many simillar features
you must read through the rom threads for identifying them and choose your rom accordingly
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but I couldn't find it by searching.
I'm running 4.0.4 rooted, and would like to unroot it since I have to take my Note to be fixed on warranty. I rooted with temporary CWM and because it's considered to be dangerous now, can I run the Unroot_SuperUser-Busybox-Uninstaller-Update2-signed.zip from Dr. Ketan's root/unroot thread from stock recovery ?
Just wanted to make sure before I do anything stupid. And yes, I know I could flash to stock GB, wipe and flash to stock ICS but if I could unroot straight from recovery it would be a lot easier. Thanks in advance.
Yes you can, but remember if you have flashed custim kernel then first replace with stock. As well if you have update supersu from market, then first uninstall that from setting -appl -all

Need help

Hey Guys,
I have Galaxy note GT-N7000
android ver. : 4.0.3
I wanna know how could I update to jelly bean or at least ICS 4.4 if there is no official version of JB for Note yet,
I'm afraid that I heard that there is a problem with the Kernel or something like this in galaxy note that I can't update to newer version of andriod,
could you tell me please how to do this safely without any harm ?!!
Once you flash stock ROM for your area then you will be able to update with kies/OTA (once it released to your area)
But incase if you are on any other ROM there will be option to update with Odin.
stay tuned to XDA.
do you have a costum rom or are you planning to get a costum rom??
if that is the case you can use odin to flash a safe kernel and then flash an unofficial costum rom...search in the forum...
if you are on stock rom and you plan on staying on stock rom you will have to wait till it releases and you can download it once its released
the thing about the ICS being unsafe applies only if you're rooting or flashing a costum rom...other then that you should be fine as far as I know.
just out of curiosity why is everyone so eager to get on ics or jb??I am still on gingerbread and I don't exactly need to update...

You will remain same on ICS 4.0.4 by flashing this. But this is safe kernel, you will be safe from emmc brick bug, as well you can use its CWM to backup/restore nandroid, as well you can flash custom ROM.

After flashing safe kernel, you can safely wipe or hard reset.
And yes flash custom rom too, but before flashing custom rom you have to read instruction from custim rom thread op.

Rooting Help Required

Hi All,
Im thinking of rooting my Samsung Galaxy s3 4G and need some help before is start.
I was going to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394&highlight=i9305.
But after watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhSSmdqAXRM&feature=player_embedded i notice there are more options which may be easier.
Can someone please guide me so i dont mess my phone up?
Also where can i find the original firmware incase i need to reflash for warranty?
I also read that i need to backup my iemi but am unsure how i do this?
Cheers
You can download the firmwares via sammobile or via Samsung kies
I advise installing CWM ClockWork Recovery with Odin then flashing a custom ROM

I would advise doing this first...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
Then root via this method =) (there are known problems with the 6.XXX touch recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394
You now have root!
Then if you want the latest version straight from Samsung (4.1.2) flash this through CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066767
Hope that helps =)
I was thinking of using the toolbox and hoping it was an all in one application.
Im really really new to Android.
Autoroot with stock recovery and mobile odin works best for me. I'm a noob too. Have flashed perseus kernal and pandoriams latest 4.1.2 and works great

[Q] How to uninstall Cyanogenmod 7?

I've been using CM 7 on my Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 and recently it has started to crash really frequently... So how do I remove it?

You can try a Stock Based Rom or even a CM 7 based ROM which is more stable.

Galaxy S plus i9001-Ican't flash any custom Rom from stock Rom

I'm on stock Rom GB 2.3.6 on my Samsung s plus and I tried to flash any Cyanogen Custom Rom in CWM ( Ics and Jb) and Always i get the same answer . Makesure you have to use correct version of cwm to install the cm. I recommend try cyanogenmod 10.1 JB 4.2.x . GO to the cyanogen official rom post (under ADC team).
FOllow all the instruction that stated inside the topic.
Any mismatch of the version of installation can fail to install rom.

Exactly.
Looks like your installation is failing because the file is for an I9000B. If you want to use CM10.1 on an I9001, you'll need to go here.
