New: Etched Material
Etched Material is a beautiful, modern theme that draws on Android L's Action Buttons to bring simplicity to your homescreen. Flat colors, clean lines and gentle shadows bring the future of Android design to your launcher.
Etched Material complies stringently with the color palette of Google's Material guidelines. Consequently, it will look great on Android L or on any theme that takes cues from it.

wow these look fan-F$%ING-tastic.
about the vivid, icons need some more oempfh
not much contrast between logo and icon (firefox/shazam for instance)
could be fixed by a bit stronger outline or a light shadow
are you going to add a psd template for people to help you out on icons?

Very glad to get such a positive response, and thanks for providing some useful suggestions!
You raise a good point about the Vivid outlines - it's not something that's problematic on my phone, but it's hard to predict how it will look to others given the huge range of screens on Android devices. An outline would certainly be a good 'fail-safe' in situations where there isn't otherwise enough displayed contrast. I'll experiment with your suggestion and release an update in the coming weeks.
I'm in two minds about releasing a template. I'm actually using a pretty complicated setup at present with a lot of custom written scripts (to support multiple themes and resolutions from one template). It would take quite some effort to get that into a state where I could distribute it.
I could take submissions for just the SVG glyphs the etched part of the icon), whichwould approximately half the time to add a new icon. I could even post a template to facilitate that . However, since I hope to add bonuses to the premium theme, I'm not sure how I feel about profiting off the help of others. I'll give this some thought though - perhaps I could include all community icons in the free theme.
Let me know if you come up with any other suggestions.
Icon Requests
Hi mejogid,
It's Testerwoot from Reddit. Again, thanks for making this set, it's not often that new unique icons are made for Android. I like your 3D effect icons, and it's hard to choose between the Candy and Vivid sets.
For both, I was wondering if I could submit a few icon requests. The icons are as follows:
Foursquare
Settings (Samsung)
Songza
Apollo (Music Player)
Viper4Android FX
Samsung WatchON
Cyanogenmod Torch (installed via Aroma on Hyperdrive ROM)
ES File Explorer
iFont
Hyperdrive Hub
Hyperdrive Tweaks
Xposed Installer
Isis Wallet
Root Explorer
QR Droid
Zite
Reddit Flow
AirDroid
Bible
Tasks
Transit
Whew, that's a long list! Whenever you have time, man, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback - I'll add those to my list and will add them as soon as I can. That should be within the next couple of updates, but I might be a little slow to start with as I don't currently have internet at home. Let me know if you have any more requests; it's very helpful to get an idea of what icons my users actually need.
These are great been using them for a few days now.

Nice icon pack!
These are really pretty icons, and I'd love to use them daily, but right now there's just too many icons for apps I use that haven't been themed yet.
I know how tedious it can be to trace icons, tweak the layers, paths, etc., and I have a modicum of ability in photoshop and would love to help out where I can.
Is there any chance you'd be willing to release a template and allow user submissions for inclusion in the free versions of the icon packs?
Regardless, great work on these, I'll definitely keep my eye on them to see how they progress!
I've updated the theme to include all the suggestions I've recieved, including those of busterdev and Jephre above. The themes should be far more comprehensive now.
Give 'em a try if you haven't already! I've added a tonne of icons to every theme as well as making improvements to all existing icons. There are now more than 900 in total across the suite.
thank you for your awesome icon. here some of icon requested and some activity name need to be fix. ill make it easy for you.

Thx. Now most of my icons theme and it looks awesome!!! Waiting for next release. Hope all icon theme. Great job dev!!
I'm toying round with some potential new ideas for an extra theme... the bottom one needs a lot of work in terms of shadows, but I'm just toying with the idea at this point. I'd like to know if anybody is particularly drawn to either possibility!
Hi all - I've just added a new theme - Etched Material - based on what we've seen of the Android L Developer Preview. It takes inspiration in terms of the Action Button and the color scheme. Let me know what you think!
There have also been a bunch of updates to the existing themes, including much improved icon coverage and new icons.
Related
These Icons were originally developed for Androkkid a launcher that mimics some of the looks and functionality of Android.
These new Icons should work better for those of you who have like me found the standard winmo icon ugly and pixelated.
I have always thought that some of the IPhone's attraction was the beautiful icons that were uniform in size and shape. So I made my own (mostly based on other people's graphic work).
When Androkkid came along I loved the scenic wallpapers you could use but I thought the beautiful scenery of the wallpapers became too cluttered with the IPhone style icons and that the square icons ruined the effect of the beautiful wallpapers. The Iphone style icons were like square holes in the scenery
So these new icons are designed to preserve a uniform style and at the same time be better integrated into the "scenery" by using transparency.
I hope that some of you will have a look at these and tell me what you think
PS If you resize these, their transparency will not work. If they are resized by Androkkid they are fine.
If you want to use these and need other icons, ask me and I'll see what I can do.
I am also releasing a template (see below)with all the frames if others would like to make their own icons, which would be sweet
The template was originally based on blumetalaxe's ireflect template but it's now very different
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Please consider to try them out, I don't think they are as beautifull as some of the Iphone like icons, like the ones made by bluemetalaxe or Stereo's Leopard, but when you see them glide across the scenery in Androkkid they feel much more integrated into the scenery than the Iphone like icons which leave kind of a square hole in the scenery, however beautiful they are.
So what do you have to loose, give 'em a try:
Screenshots of the gold frames for those of us who really want to pimp up our handsets
PS Iconfile in post #1
Dirty steel icons
Screenshots of the Dirty Steel Frames here shown with the Androkkid launcher and the Obsidian Noir theme

Here is the Dirty Metal Frames files finally, enjoy
Screenshots of the blue frames.
NEW!!!
Why do the icons look all "crappy and jagged"?
While I don't agree with that they do look all "crappy and jagged", there is definitely a valid point here.
The answer is that in order for the icons to work everywhere I cannot use gradient transparencies which show up like ugly white spots in some launchers. These semi-transparent pixels are what makes graphics smooth when you shrink them to the small sizes we use for the icons.
When you shrink something against a coloured background like they have in iphone style icons, it isn't a problem, but against a transparent background it is. I've put a lot of effort into making them as smooth as they are now.
For a more detailed discussion and examples of "jagged edges" go to page 10 of this thread.
The Making of an icon
I want to show you guys some of the typical things I do when I set out to make a Transparent Frames icon. I had made an Icon for a Car Profile App but it didn't work well for qvga so I thought I'd make a new one that was more clear and obvious for smaller sizes. My idea was to use a stickshift as a very recognizable object easily associated with cars.
I googled stickshift and after much searching I found the following picture of a Lamborghini stickshift that I really liked:
The only problem was the knob which was stylish but not easily recognizable as part of a stickshift, so I googled some more and in the end I found another knob I liked better:
It was nice and shiny but the "glare" was a little messy and the picture also had a lot of noise so I spent quite some time cleaning the glare from the top of the knob. Maybe the difference isn't so great but I liked it a lot better afterwords(It took quite an effort):
Next step was to remove everything but the knob from the second photograph.
When I had done this very boring task I had to reshape the remaining top of the knob to be much more round in shape,
The result:
Next step is to import the image of the knob as a layer on top the stickshift image and scale and stretch until you're pleased with the result.
Then it's the boring and timeconsuming bit again where I remove all the rest of the picture around the stickshift, and here it is almost finished cleaned:
Next step is to import it into the Transparent Frames Template and then scale it down and try to find the best size against one of the frames.
The scaling down process has ofcourse left a contour of gradient transparencies(semi transparent pixels around the edge of the graphic) so next I switch off the frame again and switch on the purplish background layer and export it as a png with this purple background:
I then remove all the purple while I decide pixel by pixel which semi transparent pixels to keep and which to eraze, to get the graphic to be as smooth as it can be.
In the end I import the graphic back into the template and just switch on an off the different frames and export as a pngs
This is typical of the work behind a new icon. Sometimes it's more work and sometimes it's a bit less.
Thank you for this. Just a little advice from a freezing Netherlands: I think you'd better put some examples in the startpost so people actually can see what they download
Cheers,
Arnold

Thanks man I'm working on a template which will make it easier to publish new icons in all the frames (three for now) at once.
I have made some new icons as well and have some more planned
UPDATE! the template is finished see post #1
Hi Teacher1960
Beautiful icons This is good work!
BTW I have QVGA, 48x48 is enough for me so I resized them. If you want I can share the Blue icons, and I'm working on the Gold set.
Thanks

Thanks yourself for kind words. If somebody helps me work on these I think that's great, but you should be aware that resizing them might not be as easy as it seems.
When you shrink graphics the graphic program usually avoids pixelation by making semi transparent pixels(gradient transparencies)and winmo doesn't display partial (gradient)transparencies they become "white holes". It also has a problem with the colour white which become "black holes" That's why my transparent icons are so hard to make. They have to be cleaned of all white and all gradient transparencies, checked on the device and then usually cleaned again. so when you resize them they always look fine on the computer but once you use them within a launcher like Androkkid they are full of "holes" so if you check them first on your device then I'm more than pleased to have them on the thread
ps Look out for the the Dirty Steel Frames which I will probably release later today with screenshots
Hi
Thanks for the explanation, I used Gimp resize but you're right I'll install them and see if there's no issues with holes (this was the reason I dropped Androkid).
Will keep you posted

Actually Androkkid resizes these on the fly with no problems at all it's only when you scale them down in a graphic program you get into trouble. I use Gimp myself wonderful software

It looks great I love it everytime I see my icons used on other people's phones.
I only hope it works the same in Androkkid, maybe you can send the resized icons to me then I can check them.
Ps tell me about icons you lack. Like I saw that you had a blank icon for Marketplace. Is that Microsoft Marketplace? because I made one for the app OpnMarket see below
Here you are, if they are ok for you, I'll remove the attachment
(BTW resizing is more important on slower processors like mine)

I tested them and I'm sorry to say that they didn't work.
below you can see the icon test. First your resized icon in the 48x48 size, then the same icon scaled to 96x96, As you can see it is very heavily pixelated. I have then put in my 96x96 icon scaled down by Androkkid to 48x48, you can see that it is mostly fine but some of the topbar has disappeared, in the end you see the original icon.
if you zoom in on your resized icons with the Gimp you can see that they have a lot of semi transparent pixels, so please don't spread these from this thread because I have a strong wish that the icons should work everywhere they use pngs, all kinds of launchers and so on

Theme Elements That Get miss by the theme Engine, Ie Lock Screen, volume rock and more:
this is a bit tricky sense every device use different framework so 1 zip thing wouldnt work, we found the best way to do it is make a Meta Morph so everyone can get the same experience.
so what this MM includes:
Theme your lockscreen, your slinding tab lock will now be transparent. your rotary will be transparent for the most part minus some Linear images. and there is a new image for the minimal Lense lockscreen. volume bar now will match the rest.
Now Meta Morph is either Hit or Miss. What I did to make this work the best was purchased MetaMorph Pro, from within the app I slowed down the install speed to just about 1000 and it worked perfectly.
Another option is to use Zipthemer From the Market, I think this is the best Option as it make a flasable zip and a Undo zip when you want to return to Stock. More Info here.

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT THE MM MIGHT DO TO YOUR PHONE PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME AND READ!!!!!

Linear - Keyboard Skin (HD) by
punyweakling
Are you sick of blurry keyboard skins claiming to be "HD"? Look no further!
.
Designed ***specifically*** for users of Linear theme (by @bgill55 and BSTHEMES).
To get the Linear theme for Android search the Market for "Linear theme" or visit the thread on XDA for all theme variants: http://goo.gl/hs7pP
This is a "Real HD" keyboard skin- no blurry edges, no artifacts.
Suitable for Better Keyboard, Smart Keyboard, Ultra Keyboard.
*** THIS IS NOT A STANDALONE APP *** YOU MUST USE IT FROM INSIDE A KEYBOARD REPLACEMENT APP***
---
CAN'T GET IT TO WORK?:
http://bit.ly/qwertyhelp -- please read it
---
*** This is a theme only - please rate the design of the theme - keyboard function is not part of this app ***
I got annoyed at all the "so called" HD skins for Better Keyboard on the Market so I'm starting to make my own with attention to pixel-level detail. Dare to compare.

Hey, amazing icons dude, i just bought 5 credits in app and a XDA pack!
From what i understand I have to change the icons one by one, is that right?
I use Go Launcher Ex and there are icon packs that changes all the icons in the drawer, is it possible to do this with your icons somehow?
I wouldn't even know how to change the icons in the app drawer, the desktop and dock icons is one thing, but the app drawer?
Anyway, the icons are GREAT, but i really wish the was some way to get them all in there!
Cheers!
Edit: I just read the FAQ and saw the app drawer explanation, and i gotta say, it's way to much work (for me anyway) to change each and every single app icon in the drawer.
I guess I'll just have to settle with the dock and desktop icons huh!
humm
At the moment its one by one...
But we are going towards automatic changes more and more... we already made the code, and it works. But we are in contact with the devs of GO and ADW to have them insert a snipplet of code in their app to have the whole thing completed...
and as far as the app drawer goes... i would leave that alone for now... but if you really want to there are ways. I just wont be much help for it... better search the forums for more info.
Thanks for supporting me and my work... happy to have you aboard!

Absolutely excellent...!!!
Is there no limit to your imagination?
Creative and inspiring stuff.
Hi friends. Some of you might know me from my earlier UCCW Skins thread. I've now closed that thread since some users were getting all greedy and rough. So, I've stopped sharing my stuff for free on that thread.
Starting this thread - to ONLY showcase my screens - to show what can be achieved using UCCW. UCCW started as a clock widget app. But slowly and steadily it has achieved so much more. And just yesterday, it added the ability of assigning shortcuts to hotspots. And with it, the long gripe of users ("no app drawer hotspot") comes to an end.
You can totally transform your device using UCCW. Make it look like Windows, Ubuntu, any other app (Flipboard for instance).... Don't believe me? Check these out.
=========================================================================
Do you like the social news reader Flipboard? It is one of the best looking app there is. The page flipping effect is what rally sets this app apart from all other similar apps in the market. I love it so much that I made a theme based on the looks of the Flipboard app. Here I'll show you how to set it up on your android device.

Jelly Bean quick setting theme
Jelly Bean 4.2 brought Quick Settings panels to android. Swipe down status bar with two fingers and you've got several power toggles at your fingertips. But all the tiles there are black. What if you could have tiles looking like those in multi-candy-colors? And all over your device's screen; not only in statusbar, but wherever you wanted? Presenting - Candy UCCW Skins
Jelly Bean quick setting theme
HTC Sense theme
Love the beautiful HTC Sense ring, that they have on HTC devices' lockscreen? I do. So, I created Sense icon theme packs some time back using those rings. But a theme is incomplete without a matching clock widget. Hence, presenting to you, Sense analog clock skins for UCCW. This skin pack contains 5 different analog clock skins; one for each of the sense icon theme packs mentioned above. Each skin has a hotspot to launch the Android stock Clock app.

Sure. Here you go.
Banners
Screen full of tiny button like icons is sooo passe. So, replaced them with wide app launcher banners. The perfect style mix between Windows Phone 8 and Google Now Cards.
Banners
Grid
Or if you like square icons, better make them big. Most launchers don't allow big icons. UCCW to the rescue. Who knew icons in grid could look this beautiful. Crete separate pages with 3x3 grid of icons of same group of applications; adorn each page with calligraphy header and date/time widget.
Pages theme
Created a theme based on yihaomizhijia’s screen setup named “Rainbow”.
Default android screen full of app icons is too much to handle sometimes. Even if you place apps in categorized folders, you spend 3-4 (or more) seconds in locating that folder on screen when you need it. For a better screen management, check this out.
5 screens. Each screen dedicated to one category of apps. Favorites, Communication, Social, Media, Tools.
Each screen holds 4 app cards. 20 cards to choose from. Browser, Camera, Chat, Facebook, Files, Gallery, Instagram, Mails, Maps, Music, News, Phone, Settings, Store, Tasks, Text, Twitter, Voice, Weather, Youtube.
1 special screen to hold your other widgets.
Jump from any screen to any other screen easily by tapping the category buttons at the left of each screen.
No special wallpapers needed. Any white wallpaper will do.

Had you installed & uninstalled Nova earlier? Then you'll get the "insufficient space" error when you try to install next. Do this -
Go to /data/app using any root browser.
Search for 'tesla' without the quotes.
If the result is something that has 'launcher' in the name and an extension of .odex, delete that.
Now you'll be able to install Nova launcher. Happy theming.

The decision has been made that links to paid themes are allowed to be posted in the themes forum.
We're still a development site, not an advertising site, so advertising without sharing is not allowed. The ethos behind this is basically that you share your work for free and, if you wish, you can have a link to the paid version so that people can buy this in order to donate to you. The only advantage to the user would be that they would get updates automatically after that, rather than having to download updates from here.
If you do want to post links to paid themes then you must ensure you meet the following requirements...
You must supply an equivalent free version of the paid theme here on xda. This can be an attachment or a download link, but if it's a link then it must comply with the forum rules (no off-site registration and no pay-per-click links). Any links that do not comply will be removed without warning, along with the paid link.
The paid link must be in the thread, not your signature. You can post links in your signature, but they must link to the thread that has the free link. Again, these will be removed without notice if they do not comply.
