(I'm posting this in the Questions Forum because i have not enough posts to either create a topic in the Development and Hacking Forum or reply to the registry hacks-thread.
But since it's also somehow a question I hope it's ok in here.)

Edit October 15th, 2013: With the GDR3-Update you get this feature built-in, so no more need to do this then!
Hi Folks,
while AlvinPhilemon found out a registry tweak to set custom sounds on the Samsung Ativ S (as explained in this post), it is not quite practical, since you can't see the sound in the list with the others, so you can't choose or switch them without always edit the registry.
I found another way to do this, and I think it's a bit more elegant (see attachment to have a look), although it only can change the sms, e-mail or mailbox sounds.
This is what you need:
1. Interop Unlock
2. Registry Editor (use SamWP8 Tools)
3. Full File System Access (use SamWP8 Tools)
4. Your Notification sound (I tried mp3-, wav- and wma-format, all worked)
This is how you do it:
1. On your PC, browse to your Phone\PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\Sounds\ and paste your new sound there.
2. To make it visible in your sounds selection list inside the Settings-app you have to create a registry entry: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\OEM\Sounds\Notifications\ (This is the Samsung specific location for notifications; I tried the whole thing with the standard Microsoft sound location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Sounds\Notifications\ but it didn't work). In this registry location you can see a list of the the existing Samsung notification sounds ("Knock.wma", "On time.wma" and "Whistle.wma") and how their name is displayed in the Settings-app ("Knock", "On time" and "Whistle").
3. Create a new key and set the Value to the name of your soundfile (for example "Silvestro.mp3"), the Type to String and the Data to the name how you want it to be displayed. There might be an error notification after writing, but just read the key to check you wrote it correctly.
4. Done! Go to the Settings-app and choose the newly created sound as message, mailbox, or e-mail-sound!
What do you think of this solution? Of course it would be nice to pack this feature in an app that first lets you choose a soundfile from the Public or SD-Folder, then copies it, then creates a registry entry and then also is able to delete those things an put everything back to normal, but since I'm just starting with C# there's no way I can do this myself. Anybody interested in trying?
Thanks for your comments!
Very nice work, and good tutorial. It would, indeed, be good to get an app to automate this. You would need ID_CAP_SOUND_CONTROL (may require full capability unlock); this capability should enable both the requisite file system and registry access.
It's a shame that is not available by default like on every other smart and dumb phone in the world. This is one of WP many short comings that MS refuses to address.
Thanks
Nice tuturial, thanks.
I am a satisfied galaxy s4 owner. Before this phone i had the htc 8x. I liked wp8 a lot, but unfortunally some essential apps (for me) where still missing. Beside the very good os, i also like all the default sounds. Thats where my question comes in.
I'm looking for the complete set of Windows phone 8 notification sounds. Is it possible to copy them from a wp8 phone and post them here? I would like to have the windows sounds in my galaxy.
Great news!
With the GDR3-update comes the feature to set custom sounds for Messages/Mailbox/Reminder!
So this is no longer needed...
more easy way
I just renamed my ringtone the same as the existing tone in the map \PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\Sounds\.
Then I renamed the original sound (I have put "old" in front of the original tekst.)
Now I copied the rington in the map \PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\Sounds\.
Choose the ringtone on your phone, and it plays your ringtone.
I converted the mp3 ringtone to wma. I didn't try if it plays mp3.
The name of the original ringtones doesn't match the name in the phone, but you can play them first on your pc, to see witch one to replace.

Howdy,
In about a week (assuming that G.W.B. can resist starting WWIII for that long), I'm going to build another ROM. This time I'd like to get some input on what to include.
A few things to keep in mind:
1) The goal is to include apps and hacks that appeal to the widest audience and are useful. If it's something that's not useful to a lot of people, then there's no reason to put it into a ROM. I can add more themes and ringers as well, but they should appeal to as broad a group as possible.
2) I won't include any commercial apps. Not even in an unregistered state. I might consider things that have been extracted from other ROMs, but I'm debating that with the voices in my head and will decide later.
3) Apps should be mature, not beta, if possible. I don't want to have to rebuild the ROM every time a new beta version of an app comes out.
4) If possible, attach registry hacks in the form of .reg files to your request. Or at least post the registry entry in you message.
5) It would we swell if someone could take the lead on tallying up the suggestions and help to prioritize. I'll shoot for building the ROM in about 10 days.
If we can keep the additions under 5 Megs total I think we'll be OK.
Here's what will be in there as of now (which is in the current custom ROMs)
-Oregami themes
-digital, cellular, and electronic ringers
-.NET Compact Framework 2
-A2DP/AVRCP
-Wireless Today screen plugin
-enable multi-select/delete contacts
-a hidden treasure map providing the precise pinpoint location of $2.33 in pennies that I previously buried when I was perhaps 7 or 8
First I want to say thinks for the bang up job you have done on putting together these roms for us.
The only things that I would like to see that I can think of would be the registery hack that makes GPRS/EDGE stay on all the time. And I would also like, if it is possible, anything that would make the phone us a WiFi connection, when present and turned on, instead of GPRS/EDGE.
I am not sure if it is possible to do that or not.
Usefull apps
Well I would like to have these applications in the next ROM
1) Smartkeys - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060&highlight=smartkeys
2) Wakeapp - to easily setup OmapClock and other event-driven applications. http://www.kent7.com/holly/wakeapp/ , download EN version at http://kent7.sakura.ne.jp/holly/wakeapp/wa_arm021_e.zip
3) SMSDeliveryFix - to show SMS recipient name in a delivery report - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42696&highlight=sms+delivery+fix
4) WM5NewMenu - similiar to WM2003 "New" button - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40088&highlight=wm5newmenu
5) WM5torage - PDA acting as a memory card reader without ActiveSync - http://www.modaco.com/WM5torage-t238545.html
6) Some software for sending and receiving vCard via SMS.
Thank you for the great effort
The correct E or G icon
Caps, Num, lock indicators
ability to set OMPA and forget it.
smaller scroll bars
the three reptile themes at this site, I think everyone would like these, grey, blue, and red.
http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GL_SubDirectory.asp?SEC=3&CatID=70
TCPMP-media player
Total Commander-file explorer/reg editor
Agile Messenger-great messaging app aol, msn, icq etc.
I think these are good apps that everyone could use.
the only thing i think would be beneficial would be adding all the reg edits that reg wiz adds to speed up our device, so we don't have to do it each time we clear storage. THAT would be awesome. i could care less about apps being included, i can install them just fine; but it's a pain in the ass every time i clear storage/flash new rom, that i have to redo all the reg tweaks.
I haven't found a way, but more emphesis on Storage Memory than Program memory would be good for me. I use alot of storage memory with Contacts, Email (even with moving my attachments to storage) and Calendar databases.
I used the much cleaner 2.17 RUU rom without the ringtones but did copy over a couple of them from the 2.17 with RT and OC. Also copied the OMAP clock and it's shortcuts.
A clean Rom without much of the extras would be good.
I also have customized my Cingular connection to use isp.cingular and [email protected] instead of the built in wap.cingular and [email protected] connection. I also turned of the proxy as it was interfeering with my AKU2 push from my Exch2K3-SP2 box.
Is there anyway to use the EXT ROM or add a slider bar like in WM2003SE?
J-Man5
p.s. thanks for the ROMs. I just got my 8125 about 2 weeks ago and have been having mucho grande fun with it.
ROM additions
How about:
- Total Commander
- ?? some sort of free registry editor (PHM RegEdit?)
- smartskey, I agree, but I think it's ini file needs to be in the same directory and it's small so this may not work
- RegWizard (the xda developer forum developed list of hacks), although actually i don't think this is necessary because it along with its framework requires over a meg, and you can just delete it once you install the desired reg hacks. . .
- Magic Button or some other similar task manager thing
I don't think more themes or ringers would be uniformly useful.

Can you add something to truly shut down apps?
I've gotten in the habit of shutting down apps through the running programs tab under memory. Is there any way to make this easier such as putting a direct link in the Start menu to this page or on the Today list.
You know, summiter, you could just fix it so that the programs actually close when you hit the X.

Not unless he is going to rewrite the way Windows Mobile works. Thats a M$ thing. And also why apps such as vBar and Magic Button and InClose exist.
Summiter may be a ROM compiling wizard but lets not lay too many burdens at his feet to fix.
I'm just really happy push email is working.

Continued Bluetooth Fixes
I have notice several still having Bluetooth issues with the lack of support; specifically, SSP over bluetooth. This opens up additional application possibilities not available today. I wouild like to run Bluetooth GPS with receivers such as the Holux 236 GPSlim, but the lack of SSP makes this almost impossible.

I'd like to see common registry hacks already applied and perhaps a txt file explaining the ones included with the new ROM. For example, the ones I listed below are from my own notes so when I re-flash I can re-apply them.
Regarding software, I'd almost prefer to see CAB files instead of pre-loaded software. Since CABs disappear once installed, we could make the choice of installing or deleting, and thus possibly save space but also gain the benefit of having them ready-to-install. You could even use different subdirectories for free vs the ones requiring a registration code to help keep the surprise / disappointment factor down (when we find out it costs money). This would also prevent a problem of competing solutions for some who prefer one plugin over another if they both serve a common function.
Along the same lines, I believe registry hacks can be applied via CAB files or maybe even .reg files (or maybe not - I'm still educating myself with all of this). You could stick with what you have for the current ROM but load it up with optional extras which could be deleted if we just didn't want them.
I think what you're doing is great and applaud your efforts!
I just started configuring my 8125 today, these are the hacks I applied so far (after stepping up to your 2.17 ROM):
Enable scrolling in IE with 4-way button

TCPMP
TCPMP definitely, I use this more than any other app on pocketpc devices.
I think you should also consider a paired down ROM. One without any Cingular addons that aren't required to make the device work on Cingular. Basically only the ones that set up MMS and the GPRS settings. I'd even leave out the proxy if thats possible.
But in this paired down ROM I'd still include a few extras like some extra themes and ringers.
And I'd put in the two programs I don't think anyone can live without, SmartSkey and TotalCommader.
Thats basically the setup I have now, but I'm wasting space in my extended ROM and other areas because there are things on my device that I can't remove and I'm not using.

I'm not familarwith SSP. Is it a profile? What does it enhance/enable?
Do you know if there are any WM5 devices which have it? (perhaps it can be ripped out and added to the Wiz)

haha this is at least the second message that goes something like: "how about a ROM stripped of everything, but add this and that and oh yeah add this too". I say this in good fun so don't take offense. It just indicates that everyone has quite unique needs.
I will create a barebones ROM as well. But I don't want to have too many ROMs out there because I don't want to have to rebuild them all when something changes.
As far as using the Extended ROM for other purposes..as of now it can't be done. It's locked in some way that prevents effectively using as storage space. (if you try to manipulate it, it becomes corrupted). So the only use for it is to install stuff at first boot.
Well I might as well put in my two cents....but first....Summiter....marry me! I'll tell my wife to divorce me and she can take her nokia phone with her!
-Ok definitely Smartskey in the same folder as Omapclock so smartskey.ini file can tell omapclock to clock me at 216 everytime after soft reset.
-Please take out the stupid SIP keyboard...i'ts useless and can only be used by leprechauns with little fingers.
-A way to easily change splash screens.
-Hide SIM contacts
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone
new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0
1. Disable menu animations to increase performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\GWE\Menu"
Change "AniType" from "6" (default) to "0" (disabled).
- Add vibration instead of sound to keypresses in the phonepad for better tactile feedback:
for i = 0 to 9
Give an example for "i" Button:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf "i"]
1. Rename Standart DWORD parameter "Sound" to "Sound1"
2. Create new String Parameter "Sound"
3. Assign value *vibrate* to this new parameter.
For this there is also a cab file available.
***this is a cool registry tweak

\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN(x)\
changed RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME and EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME values to CC. after that change, microphone sensitivity got better and didn't receive any more complaints.
Though i wish someone knew a way to improve the sound mic quality during speakerphone.
And there are so many ringtones in your rom summiter...they all sound alike lol. put the You've got mail.wav file for incoming mail, i have it if you want. how bout some funny ringtones or music ringtones instead?
k that's all
Does anybody knows where the sounds of sliding keyboard being stored? I'd like to change them but don't find..
They're in the Windows DIR, example: 0_in.wav 0_out.wav
In the sliding keyboard settings it calls "wind chimes", "piano" and "xylophone". Do you think they're the same? How should I call the new one I'd like to use?
I'm sure you could replace the original .WAVs then select the corresponding name (windchimes etc) in the option (I haven't bothered to see which ones are which, but seeing as there are only 3 sets, it shouldn't take that long
WINDOWS\0_in.wav
WINDOWS\0_out.wav
WINDOWS\1_in.wav
WINDOWS\1_out.wav
WINDOWS\2_in.wav
WINDOWS\2_out.wav
There is most likely a way to install new ones... i have a feeling you have to 'buy' them from the MS site or something :S
how do i get the windows directory to show up while browsing on my computer?
also, what is the directory for the sounds used for receiving text messages? i think it is just system sounds but yeah.

To install new ones:
Using your favorite registry editor, drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound.
You'll see a number of subkeys named 0, 1, 2, etc. Create a new subkey whose name is 1 greater than the last subkey.
In the subkey you just created, set the following values:
Default value -- set this to the name you want to appear in the sliding sound control panel.
in -- a string value containing the name of the wav file you want to play when the keyboard is being closed.
out -- a string value containing the name of the wav file you want to play when the keyboard is being opened.
Close the registry editor
Copy the wav files referenced above into the Windows directory.
Great! Thank you!
Hi folks,
Is there a way to make permanent registry changes? I found the sound after pressing the dial button very annoying and tried to set initVol to 0 in the registry, but after a reboot the setting is back.
Same goes for some other settings in the telephone which I wanted to change permanently. Like, changing the default locations of the images being saved by the camera to \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures instead of the DCIM directory. Is there a way to do this?
I noticed there are some OEM settings, but somehow the telephone denies those registry settings when I try to set them to new values. Write protected?
How could this be done?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The registry keys where the changes are not permanent is set to default at restart. The only way I know how to make these permanent is to alter the ROM before it is cooked and flashed...
Are you sure your tweeking the registry and not the profile?
Look up HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\CallStart
Change the InitVol value to 0 (I know you posted it but doesnt hurt to mention again.)
I have had this set on my phone for a while now without issue, and sticking after several reboots. Now of course if something else is bugging the phone it could be restoring the initial values, computers sometimes do this but usually require user input to do it...
Weird, what registry editor are you useing? Does it automatically restor a backup incase you mess something up?
I know sometimes when I have been changing things in my cars ECU it sometimes takes two or three times for the new coding to stick, might be something like that...

Had the same problem with the sound af call start and solved it like this:
1. Use Total Commander (freeware) and copy the file Silent.prof.xml from the folder Application data\Profiles to the folder \Application data.
2. Then rename the copied file to Normal.prof.xml (or Meeting.prof.xml, if wished, this is the buzzing profile).
3. Now move the new Normal.prof.xml (or Meeting.prof.xml) back to the folder Application data\Profiles and overwrite the old file.
4. After this you'll to have to reconfigure your settings in the normal (and/or meeting) profile but the sound at call start won't return, even if device is restarted. After a hard reset you'll have to repeat the above mentioned actions to get rid of the sound again.
Got this solution from another S730 forum. Seems the Silent.prof.xml file is the only profile in which the sound at call start is disabled.
Ehm, looks like a nice solution but trough both Active Sync as Total Commander I only find the Meeting.prof.xml file (even if I change my Profile to Silence or normal or whatever).

Could it be that you're using the desktop version of Total Commander? The link i used in my previous post contains a download of TC for windows smartphone. You'll have to install it on you device and work with your device. For some reason then you will be able to see the Silent.prof.xml and perform the steps in my previous post.
I just installed the Cab File which provided in your link.
It's a strange world .
Edit: Never Mind, got the Registry Fix Done, Thanks Anyway (I Love all those Registry Tweaks)

If you dont have "show hidden files and folders" enabled you might not be able to see them either, not sure but its also a possibility.

Perhaps a stupid question, but will the sound disappear in ALL the profiles using this technique? Or only in the new profile?
And is there also a way to disable the sound made at the end of a call?
Thanks for the solution!
I think the sound won't disappear from all the profiles. E.g. the outside profile can't be found even if you use TC on your device. Therefore you won't be able to overwrite that profile. I'm personally using the normal, buzzing and silent profiles most often so I can live with this solution. You might want to try and rename a copied Silent.prof.xml to Outside.prof.xml, move it to the original folder and see if anything happens. Never tried this.
Never been aware of a sound at hang-up, so don't know if it was there before I changed the profiles. In any case I'm not hearing any sound now.
That's what I figured. Thanks for the reply.
Seems like I totally scr*wed up my Meeting Profile.
At first i'd just try to edit the CallStart Value in the XML file from 2 to 0 and uploaded this via Active Sync My Documents. After that I remapped the File to Application Data/Profiles and Overwrite the Current Meeting Profile.
All worked Fine until I changed my Profile to Normal and back to Meeting. From now on I can't select or edit the Meeting profile. I've also tried to replace the Meeting profile with another profile using Meeting.prof.xml but without any result, Also tried to reset the profiles within the phone using Profile -> Menu -> Option 4 but still I can't do anything with my Meeting profile.
Does anyone has Any Idea?
Edit: A Couple of hours after the first apparence of this issue it resolved itself without a restart or any other handling, does anyone has any idea how I can change the CallStart value without disabling the Meeting Profile, I compared both Meeting and Silent and i'm 95% sure it must be this CallStart Value which has to be Changed.
Are you just trying to kill the sound on specific profiles or from the whole phone? Have you verefied that the registry edit will not stick for you?
From your issue it sounds like something was not put into the profile properly causing the issues, and window's found the problem and reset it to work again.
If I use the Registry Change I can do this everytime I change my Profile.
Using the XML file I was also trying to change the Vibration mode (I want to Combine Vibration and Sound but the Pulsating of a Text message has to be different from the Call Sound).
Does anyone has any idea about what's going to happen after you completely remove the CallStart Entry from your register? Doesn't this solve the problem or does this cause an error or something.
Several things could happen, its not a huge key so windows might just pass over it, however if the profiles are looking for it then you might run into some stability issues there. If you delete the key from profiles from looking for it in the registry as well then you might not have any problems.
Either way windows could either become unstable during calls or associated sounds, windows will restore the key, or nothing will happen.
I now also tried to edit the XML via Total Commander and saved it the Normal way, as Unicode and as Text, but all disables the use of the specified profile until a "reset to standard".
Anyone has any idea how to change XML profile files without making them incompatible.
I found the solution - just edit the properties of Normal.prof.xml and enable system flag (e.g. in Total Commander). That's all
I totally love you Radiax , you are my Hero for today .

Hi All,
I have been getting into installing ROM's on my X1 for a few months now.
All good bar the couple of hours it takes to reinstall a couple of apps, configure owner information and then go though ans set all the notification sounds.
So I got thinking and decided that, as all notifications were set in the registry, I could just export all the notification keys once set with the sounds and I could then (after copying them into the windows directory) import the reg ke file into the registry and bob would be my uncle.
Well, Bob turned out to be someone elses uncle and this did not work for me!. Gutted!!
A sample of the reg file includes the following:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications]
"AlertInterrupt"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Phone]
"Wave"="\Windows\Resident_Evil.mp3"
"Duration"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:80000000
@="Phone: Incoming call"
"DisplayOrder"=dword:00000001

What seemed to happen was that one sound (the wrong one and the first in the windows folder) was applied to ALL notifications.
So my two questions are:
1) Should I actually be uploading/copying my ring tones and sounds to the Windows/Rings folder?
2) Is there a particular format for reg files and the entries therein to have them work for carrying out this task?
I will say that the owner information was input in the registry correctly. Just not the rings and sounds...
Thanks for any and all help on this..

Hi All,
I have been getting into installing ROM's on my X1 for a few months now.
"AlertInterrupt"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Phone]
"Wave"="\Windows\Resident_Evil.mp3"
"Duration"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:80000000
@="Phone: Incoming call"
"DisplayOrder"=dword:00000001

"Duration"=dword:00000000

Click to collapse
For path in reg, you need double "\\" for sub-dir. e.g.
"Wave"="\Windows\Infend.wav" > "Wave"="\\Windows\\Infend.wav"
Resco Explorer has problem with big registry file so I would suggest you to put the reg into cab using WinCab manager.
U can check out my rom thread even you are not using my rom. I have a section there for UC which gives a lots of tips how to import user custom setting/config after new rom/hard-reset
Hi,
Thanks jackleung for the info. Looking at the User Customisation: could well be useful.
But the reg key info will get me going for now and get me up and running quickly..
Thanks again

Name: Notepad
About the app:
The Office app is powerful, but its syncing features slow it down. Notepad by AppsForMe is a great app to choose if you just want to take plaintext notes without the wait. It’s also the only text editor that supports folder structures, and the look of the app makes it feel like a part of the operating system (animations included). You can also pin documents or directories to the Start screen and send documents as emails or text messages.
The app has 4.6/5 stars over 48 reviews.
“Amazing app and it does what it says without any problems. Easily the best Notepad app on the marketplace and the fastest” 5/5
“Superb. You can store email and SMS templates. It makes life a lot easier. Don't miss it.” 5/5
“Very, very, very well done. Thank you.” 5/5
Developer's notes:
I'm always looking for more feedback on Notepad. Unfortunately, I don't get a huge number of support emails, so I'm left up to my own devices to figure out what could be added or needs to be changed.
Please give the application a shot. If you like it, great! If you don't, let me know what's up (in the comments). Chances are I can do something about it. Thanks for reading!
Possible future features (not guaranteed in any way, and not listed in any particular order.)
+ change keyboard theme
+ password-protect
+ lists
+ quick folders (swipe in directory view)
+ "emtpy trash" button
+ scroll sideways on long filenames
+ "import all" to parse "backup all"/"export all"
+ "export all" -> skydrive
+ import from url (skydrive/dropbox)
+ "are you sure?" -> "ready to send?"
+ title of note title -> "document title"
+ custom-name "root"

I'll be watching this thread as well as my developer email, [email protected], for any questions, comments, complaints, or concerns. Thanks!
Some screenshots (attached).
Thank you!!!
Glad you like it!
Please let me know anything about it that seems weird or cool. I do things a lot differently than all of the other text editor applications, and I want to know what's good and what's not.
Wow really good Idea ! I have searched this for Quick Notes ( i use on the PC often the Editor ) and I would use a similiar App on the Phone ...
Thank you!!! i need this for school
simple and does what it says, good app
Notepad Suggestion
First, great Notepad app. I would just like to add a password to a note file.
Thanks!
It's good to see interest in the application! Notepad just hit 15,000 downloads today, and I'm always looking to make that number higher, so the more suggestions you guys have the better.
So far I'm seeing requests for:
(1) a new live tile, particularly for pinned documents/directories
(2) change the name of the "root" directory (to what, though, I wonder?)
(3) password-protect documents
(4) implement lists as well as documents
Anyone have any other suggestions, or want to plus-one a feature?
--AppsForMe
Guess you had missed our review. Skydrive Integration and ability to send notes as attachment.
Yes, I definitely saw your review! I actually did implement two of your suggestions (preview of content when pinned, ability to move folders).
Here's how I feel about your other requests:
First, the Windows Phone operating system prevents third-party developers (read: me) from sending email attachments. Same goes for speech-to-text.
Second, as soon as you want SkyDrive, you should just be using Office. The Office app supports either (a) local files without folders, or (b) SkyDrive files with SkyDrive folders. Goodness knows that I can never match the Office app for stability, integration, features, or UI. Plus, Notepad's other sell is that it's fast--loading notes, saving notes, navigating folders--implementing web functions would slow everything wayyyy down. I see the lack of SkyDrive as a selling point.
(Side note: Office supports sending documents as attachments. Two birds with one stone!)
Notepad for WP the best
I think the requests thus far are pretty much what is missing although it seems it's going to be an uphill battle due to OS restrictions. Installed the app last week on my Lumia and it's amazing, clean and easy to use. Keep up the good work.
I used to use this app, but it had this bug where i could not scroll to the bottom of the longer note. Has that been resloved in the meantime?
Also, I think skydrive sync is important (or even dropbox). When someone changes phones, how is he going to transfer notes?
thank you i need this apps
All the problems with long notes have been fixed.
I'm going to leave the auto-syncing between SkyDrive and the phone up to the native Office application--it does it better, faster, and more reliably than I ever could.
If you need to back up your documents, use the "backup all" feature to email yourself the text of the documents.
Hi Isaac,
Great app. I registered here just to say that, and thank you. I'm a note taking person but one that wants to keep them organize and your app is the only one that does it with ease. (I must of downloaded a dozen to try and removed..only one other did folders, the rest was just one giant list of notes).
If you're serious about taking users feedback, here are some of mine...all are minor little things that are mostly ui based and these are just my opinions. I think your application here is quite impressive so take these only to help out for those you agree with..
- replace 'root' with 'home' or 'my folders' perhaps?
- replace 'Remarks' when creating a new directory with 'Note: ' or remove the word entirely and place the remark note under the text field.
- titles of Directories and Notes become all lower-cased when viewing
- clicking the back button when in Search mode hides the keyboard only, so it requires clicking the back button again to exit the search function..this may be an OS thing I've seen and not something that can be changed unless you can find a way around this.
- add a Folders button at the bottom when in a non root directory to take you back, just like how it appears when in a note to take you back to its directory.
- when in a directory, can the word Notepad and the Directory name on top take you back to the folder list view or one folder out if in a subfolder?
- possible to allow user to choose which directory(ies) to list mango-syle to the right where they can swipe to the right and to go into that directory (sorry if this is unclear, I'm not too familiar with WP terminology yet)
- Button to empty trash when viewing trash directory. btw, how does the trash work..deletes automatically after so long?
- when viewing a file that has a long filename (and the feature is turned on), can it scroll?
- reduce space between documents filenames ..currently lists 5 before needing to scroll?
- backup all..cool feature. I would change 'Are you sure?' which sounds a little scary to something like 'Ready to Send?' btw, can you import back into Notepad? If note, perhaps call the feature 'email all' instead for now..
- when creating a new note it shows 'new document', the next screen where it ask for the file name it displays 'new note' ..just a consistence thing
- are all notes saved as txt files on the device? what if you remove the .txt? does it need to be displayed if it's automatically saving them as txt files.
- Can titles of notes and directories names be the system's accent color and turn black when choosing them? ..the reverse essentially.
- when adjusting toggle sliders in Settings, the phone wants to swipe to it's neighboring page a little too freely (btw, love all the settings you have here!)
- remove the larger 'root' when in the root directory list to gain some real estate back to see more directories and so it's not repeating perhaps?
And if you need any simple graphics help, I can help out.
I'd love to see Dropbox support with everything being saved to dropbox and loaded from dropbox. I'd even pay for a dropbox enabled version.
Can it handle long text file ?
Can it import text file from skydrive?
Can we Password lock the app or folder?
thanx
First: Thanks, Lumiame, for the excellent feedback. You've greatly extended the set of features I'm considering adding, and you've noted UI inconsistencies and confusions that I'll make sure to address in the next update.
To everyone who's commented so far: thanks for the good feedback. This quarter at my university is slower than my last quarter, so I should be able to get to work on the app.
Look for a good number of changes in the next updates.
thanks for sharing
