Getting rid of bloatware?? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I've rooted my z1 and now I'm wondering which apps are save to delete from device to free up more space.
Is there a list anywhere listing which bloatware is safe to delete?

There are lists, you can just google it.
However, the best thing to do is use an app like titanium backup and then "Freeze" aps. This way you can see if it effects performance or stability before actually uninstalling it. If it goes wrong you can just defrost the app again.

I think you can just disable it from settings->apps

I was wondering the same thing today and just found some lists from other phones. Just hadn't gotten around to asking yet, so thanks.
But this is my first locked bootloader device I've rooted, so was wondering if the bootloader checks any system apps on boot? I assume not, but want to be safe. If the bootloader won't boot, then titanium won't help much to recover
Also, anyone know if tweaking things like the dpi in the build.prop will cause the bootloader to freeze?

Its not a problem deleting system apps and the bootloader. However, deleting system apps can some processes to fail, but the device should always boot.

This may be slightly off topic but did anyone get their Z1's with bloatware in another language that could not be uninstalled? When I got mine, it had a few apps in Polish (I think) that played music and some other things. I could not remove it the normal way. Just curious if anyone else got the same crap I did. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising seeing as how I got the C6903 overseas model. I just didn't think it'd have apps that I couldn't remove.

Titanium back up or root explorer I've found to be the best apps to do this

Denying permissions on TL

Since getting my TL I've been much more enthusiastic about playing around with it, by rooting it, deleting these crappy ATT apps, only to find the boot loader is not unlockable.
I wanted to install cyanogenmod to deny apps certain permissions but it looks impossible because the death star won't let us unlock the bootloader.
You guys have always been so helpful in the past... What would be the next best way to deny permissions? I've seen a couple apps in Google play, but they all seem to have their drawbacks.
Thanks

You can't do what you want with root access?

Just want to stop apps from reading contact data, calling home, displaying ads, etc. I know there are a couple apps that do this. Just looking for a suggestion on which works best.

Don't know what apps would be best but root should be all you need not unlocked bootloader.

Try this: http://www.mobiwol.com/
No Root!
That looks like a start, but doesn't really do what he wants. In case you want a app to have web connection, but don't want it to read, for example, your contact data.
I would recommend Gemini app manager.
Have used it for a long time. Only downside is that you have to set all your settings again if you uninstall or change roms

Did I help? please press thanks button
I would recommend LBE Privacy Guard. You can edit all the permissions like you want, permissions of system apps too. But you need root

It's so annoying seeing 15+ system apps running, although it's nothing compared to TouchWiz !
But yeah disable them using Chef's Freezer, App Quarantine or Titanium.

There's some apps which normally can do this, Autorun Manager, Autostart Manager in ROM Toolbox and few other. Unfortunately none of them works on Xperia ROM. Something in the Sony ROM prevent app from reading receivers.
Edit : started a new thread in XZ section, but looks like nobody care : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212544
I wanted to offer a reward via paypal for the one who find a solution but need people to contribute with me few $ to motivate devs...

i found an app called greenify in the apps store . its for rooted device and it hibernates the app so it wont auto start at boot , but it can only disable user apps not system apps. works good for now.

List of apps safe to freeze after root

I was wondering if there is a list anywhere of the apps that would be safe to freeze now that we have root. I froze a few things, but figured I wouldn't freeze anything I wasn't sure of.
Thanks in advance!
i am also interested in this. I just froze some of this verizon bloatware before i attempt to uninstall it <root>
Looks like theyre frozen and not in my app drawer anymore so im just gonna leave it like this until i fill up my puny 16gb storage.

There's a thread for this. Search for titanium backup in this section.
I've been trying to search all day and keep getting an error saying it is not available. If anyone knows where it is I'd appreciate an assist.

What is safe to remove from the phone?

This will be the first time I've ever used Titanium because usually I just flash a new ROM. So what apps are safe to completely remove and what should I freeze? Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd like to know this as well. I want to remove as much bloat/crap as possible.
For a non-AT&T specific list you can check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470862
A good start is anything that says "AT&T" anything lol.
Before removing it, freeze it with TB top make sure it won't cause any issues

Yeah i might have already gone too far, because I had 2 FC's on touchwiz home ..
one of them caused me to be unable to unlock the phone, and i almost had to pull the battery.
i have since cleared TWHome data, and am hoping that fixes it.
I deleted a lot of crap. like 30 apps.
I must say boy do i have a lot of ram back! Like 853mb in use after i hit clear!

bloatware

Now that I'm rooted, I've gotten rid of the Sprint and HTC boat, but I'm still having a problem getting rid of the Google play crap.... Any suggestions ?

Don't use android? Seriously Google Play and the services are what make the OS work.
Right, keep, music, and plus and having multiple instances of the framework are what makes the phone work.... I suppose android system is just there to drain the power, not for any functional reason
Get titanium backup, uninstall what you want

This
If you have root access you should really have Titanium Backup Pro. And if you don't feel comfortable uninstalling certain programs you can freeze them. Does the same thing but instead of uninstalling the program it just hides it from the system as if its not there, and you can always unfreeze it down the road if it causes you problems.
Or flash an AOSP ROM, but you lose Sense. +1 to above for using Titanium Backup. If you're feeling gutsy, you could use a file explorer with root privileges and dive into /system/app, but regardless, you should be careful. Oftentimes, OEM ROMs have Google-specific components actively built into the framework, so take care not to remove anything that kills your phone.
