[Q] Boot Loop Issue - HTC Sensation XL

After traversing the internet for quite some time looking up various fixes and such for this issue i dont think i have found one that coveres what im facing with this phone.
After getting to the HBOOT menu i see this info:
*** LOCKED ***
RUNNYMEDE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.28.0006
RADIO-3831.16.00.16_M
eMMC-boot
Apr 24 2012, 18:59:39
Then the menu options.
The person i got this off says they havent done anything to the phone as far as custom firmware goes and seems to be unrooted.
Im wondering if i need to reflash a rom of any kind onto the phone and if i do how do i do this without an external SD card option?
Any help here would be great.

I not sure i understand your problem. Your phone doesn't boot (or boot loop) but you can enter in HBoot and you wondering how you can solve the problem?
If this is the problem, try to flash your phone with a proper stock ruu.
1. Download to your PC the proper stock RUU for your device (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128104)
2. Enter in HBOOT (first remove the battery, then, put the battery in the device again and press Volume Down+Power)
3. Connect you phone to PC via USB,
4. Select fasboot mode
5. Flash stock RUU.
Hope it's help.
Regards.

Sorry if my OP was confusing.
The phone does Boot Loop. I can enter the Hboot menu but thats it. If i connect the phone to a pc via USB all it does is charge. I have no access to the storage of the phone itself so i cannot flash anything to the phone.
The furthest I have gotten the phone to 'boot' is i get a momentary glimpse of the home screen background and the info bar along the top then it restarts.
DD
Edit: Further information, The person i am trying to fix this for said that the USB Debug mode isnt on, if that helps.

You don't need to have storage access to flash the phone. With RUU you flash the phone trough PC. You only have to acess"fastboot mode" trough HBOOT. But you must have a proper connection with PC, so you must install the correct driver.

Proper connection being what exactly? I cant get the Fastboot USB to display, but the pc only seems to find the Andriod 1.0 Device driver and nothing else happens.
Im sorry for being a git on this front but ive never had to use this approach in fixing a phone before.
DSD
Also I dont know the CID for the phone either. So at this point i dont know which RUU I need...

Install HTC sync for Sensation XL on your PC to have the correct driver. You can get CID with a tool named "Runnymede AIO tool by Anders3408", but to use this tool you must be connected in fastboot mode and have an adb connection.
To get adb connection go to this link: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
Please be careful: with your first post, i can see that your bootloader is locked. So you can flash a stock RUU without problem. Never try to flash a phone with an unlocked bootloader (can brick your phone)
Regards.

You found the driver in HTC folder (normally at : C:/Programs(x86)/Htc/HTC driver). Go to device manager and install driver manually.
My device manager shows: Android USB Device-->My HTC

stuck at fastboot

Hey i am stuck in fastboot (going for a week now) and i kinda think it's dead i did that full wipe script and now it won't boot into anything i can do bootloader (my bro told me it can be flashed by there but i don't even know also i can't get into hboot due to the camera button being stubborn) so might as well ask here since he's at my cousins house for now and also how can i flash zip files? like the kind that aren't .img? just for details every time i try to flash via fastboot it either says unknown partition or cannot load blah.img maybe it's something i did wrong? i got adb/fastboot setup with the sdk and stuff but that's as far as i can get .
also i can't use adb (should be obvious by now).
can you access recovery mode? holding home+power?
I can try but don't guarantee success in doing so because of something i did in fastboot by mistake in trying to fix it ( ) unless there's a way of re flashing ra's rom or something there's no way i can get recovery to work again.
edit why don't they have those windows to phone flasher just like the hd2's have them that way i would have had it fixed by now .
Probably you should read a bit in this post.
If you are in fastboot, you can do almost everything with your phone.
1.
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
and your phone is clean.
2.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery.img>
and you have a working recovery.
3. you can decide how to continue ...
whenever i try to flash it(at last step at the instructions at top), it keeps saying error: cannot load 'Recovery.img' file ,weird , i am using ra's recovery has recovery.img , don't know why it's not letting me flash it
edit even has the original name it won't load
you need to have it in the same directory from where you are calling the fastboot command, i.e.
you are on c:\ -> recovery.img must be located on c:\
otherwise you need to give the full path to your recovery.img, i.e.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img

for showing me the way also i'v been like this since last week reason i didn't ask in the first place is because i thought it was already answered already and i searched but couldn't find the right answer
but thanks to a guru like you i fixed it .
Edit - testing phone , seems to be doing something at the g1 screen.
Edit 2 - i think it might be ... bricked , hold on.
Edit 3 - got it into recovery lets see from here.
**** it tomorrow i get a new phone anyways time to put this demon to sleep
ok i am not going anywhere can't get lift off .
i have amonra recovery in a zip file if you can flash it via fastboot?
I can try that but if i can get into fast boot (is it the little balltracker thingy and the power button? if so i think my fastboot is broken because it just shows a blue light with no signal of the screen on )
What i have try'ed is that wipe script ohsaka-super-wipe <- and i am trying to get SenseLX v3.1 to run but all my attempts just lead me back to the recovery screen for some weird reason
also don't know if this info will help at all but i got a 16gb sdcard and getting another one soon just hope it's better class
Hold on let me see something
also i flashed my hboot alot of times so maybe it's something with that.
well it's hboot mode but different... hboot is used to flash .img files.. fastboot is the same but diff button to power on and as long as you have fastboot drivers installed you can flash zip files via fastboot, power on device by holding back+power
here's a guide to install adb/fastboot driver on windows vista/7 if thats what you have...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124916
EDIT: o wait so you do have recovery? you said after trying to install rom it brings you back to recovery?
what radio/spl do you have? you need 2708/2825 & 0013d
here is guide to install radio and spl

Edit - i got both hboot0013d-signed.zip and radio-2_22_27_08-signed.zip in my sdcard meaning i might have flashed them already so i don't see why it should be taking me to recovery
edit 2 bad hboot / E:missing bitmap Progress_empty/fill code -1 2x didn't wanna risk the real brick so i didn't install it.
Edit 3 E: - blah blah blah failure at line 3
well its' back to the drawing board for me..
and well fastboot don't work (camera button + power button don't do anything)
Now would'ya look at that it started working to an htc screen doing something alright
it hates me i swear.
lol when you get to the hboot or fastboot screen what does your device say? can you find out what radio and spl you have?

[Q] Help Restoring my HTC ONE back to stock.

I bought a used htc one for at&t and it was running 4.1.2. So I tried OTA and it downloaded the s/w, installed it and upon reboot - went straight to something called teamwin recovery (?) screen. I have to chose reboot button to boot the phone back. So I realized it was rooted and am very new to this whole root thing. I wanted to ota upgrade so I googled and stumbled on the following link with too many other links. Since the following link seemed easy, I tried following:
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...actory-settings-for-warranty-repairs-0149204/
But at the step 4 I get the following:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***

I read a lot of threads here for this very topic but each one takes talks different steps and am concerned being a noob with all these steps that I might brick my phone.
Can somebody please help me with the steps to get back to stock. I apologize if this was already covered in one of the many articles. Thanks.

this should be simple ..do you have a windows PC ? if so what OS version if windows 7 continue, if windows 8.1 just gather the files below and post your answer.
Download this >> http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
and unzip the fastboot.zip below to your desktop
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wzwt8843zx27nh/Fastboot.zip
from the fastboot folder you just made do shift+right click / command prompt here. now in the command window paste this
fastboot oem lock
you just relocked the bootloader ...now run the RUU file you downloaded above and your phone will be back to Stock.
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I already downloaded the RUU RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular_US_1.26.502.12_Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_318450_signed_2 as mentioned in the previous link. Should I not use that instead use the one provided by you above?
Just wanted to make sure the steps:
- enable usb debugging on phone
- connect my phone to usb of my windows 7 (with the phone powered on or powered off?)
- from windows 7 command prompt " fastboot oem lock "
- run the RUU file
Please confirm.

1.26.502.12 is over a year old
flash the one i posted for you it's android 4.3
connect phone to usb when in the bootloader / fastboot usb
Thanks again
I am downloading the RUU.
Do I have to follow the below to do the fastboot?
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...restore-back-locked-one-screen-acting-up.html
Reboot your phone to bootloader (power+volume down) and choose fastboot. Plug in your phone and it will change to fastboot USB. Open a command prompt within the fastboot folder and type the following:
fastboot oem lock
The same link I pasted above says to use fastboot oem relock if it is s-on?
"fastboot oem lock" only works if your device is S-OFF and I am assuming yours isn't which is why it didn't work.
Can you please confirm?

I am still not able to OTA upgrade to kitkat after 48hrs. The bootloader now says relocked. Can I simply enter into fastboot and use the following RUU to get Kitkat?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428276
Thanks.
My phone is currently running 4.3 with bootloader in 'relocked' state. I am still not getting the OTA update to 4.4 and all my attempts to RUU update to 4.4 fails with htc_fastboot.exe has stopped working error. I will continue to do some more research to get there as the camera is useless in 4.3 at this point. Thanks for all your help and we can close this thread.
Fastboot oem lock only relocks the bootloader. You would have been better downloading and flashing revone to s off and LOCK the bootloader
Can you post a fastboot getvar all please removing imei and serial no?

Soft-Brick HTC One M7

Hi all,
first time poster - looonnng time lurker. Hoping you can help me with my One M7 brick.
Phone had been running slow and sluggish for a few weeks. Yesterday morning, it was particularly slow with apps randomly closing/crashing. Decided to reboot. The phone didn't reboot though; it came back with a white screen and "** TAMPERED *** *** LOCKED****" coming up - a fastboot screen I believe.
I can't get it to boot at all and I've tried accessing it via adb but it isn't detected. 'adb devices' shows nothing however 'fastboot devices' does list the phone. Windroid seems to detect it.
Ordinarily, I would just do a factory reset to see if this helps but my problem is this - I have SMS messages and photos/videos on the phone of my daughter that I really, really, really don't want to lose. They are very precious to me. If it was a case of breaking up the phone then I'd do it in a heartbeat to recover this data.
I've attached some images that I hope may help. A friend has mentioned that some of the lines indicate a problem with encryption on the card which means the data is lost completely - I'm desperately hoping this isn't the case and some kind soul can help.
Thanks

If the phone was encrypted then the only way to recover the phone is a factory reset using the stock recovery which will obviously delete all your files. Any other method that could fix the phone will wipe it: unlock the bootloader to flash a new rom will wipe the phone, flashing a ruu will also wipe it. Thats probably either an encryption problem or a failed emmc chip. I don't think there anything to do to recover your data, especially if the phone was encrypted. Sorry at least the phone might be recoverable...

Well, after asking a company who said they could do it and then said they'd have to wipe it, I've taken it back.
It seems there's nothing I can do about it; I've even tried using guides on here and elsewhere to return it completely to stock but because I can't get adb working, it's a no go. Factory reset does nothing. Trying to use tools and fastboot to change recovery images and all sorts doesn't work either. Seems to be something relating to 'S-ON' as when it's in RUU boot, if I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the screen briefly changes from the HTC screen to the white screen showing "Security Failed!" after trying to flash a new image on.
At a bit of a loss!

adb commands only works from a booted rom + USB debugging enabled from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. So there is no problem here.
Factory reset does nothing.

What is it doing exactly? You select "factory reset and it boot to the HTC splash sceen? It reboot in bootloader mode? It freeze the phone?

Again you need to be more precise, what doesn't work exactly? There is no fastboot connectivity or there is but the recovery won't flash? Did you unlocked the bootloader?

No, Its not related to S-ON.
as when it's in RUU boot, if I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the screen briefly changes from the HTC screen to the white screen showing "Security Failed!" after trying to flash a new image on.

What image exactly and how did you tried to flash it?

adb commands only works from a booted rom + USB debugging enabled from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. So there is no problem here.

I've taken it back to another shop this morning to have it reset/flashed back to stock. Will just have to try data recovery once I've got it back and see if I can recover anything.

HTC M8 mini 2 Android System Recovery <3e> loop - no connection via PC possible

Hello, I've done something that my phone didn't like.
I wanted my phone back into default state because of company policies and did not use the correct stock ROM. I used the one for the M8 and not for the M8 One mini 2.
So this is what the current state of the phone is and what I have done so far trying to solve my problem:
The phone keep looping at start up, ending with a red triangle and exclamation point. After a minute or so the phone boots again, and again and again...
When pressing volume up/power button i get into "Android System Recovery". See image for the details.
My computer does not recognize the phone. Installed the HTC drivers, HTC M8 toolkit and Android Studio. I am using the original cable.

By using the SD card I tried to install the:
- correct firmware (M8_MINI_UL_Firmware_2.19.401.1.zip)
- Nandroid backup
- Change the name of the files (for example to 0P8B20000.zip)
But whatever I do, I get the message "Check CID failed".
Before I started I get this information by using fastboot (yes, when it worked):
bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
version main:
HTC_001
product: htc_memul
0P8B20000
Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Thanks for your reply. I've seen your answers before and downloaded the files. I've managed to get into bootloader and unlocked my phone. It has now the status TAMPERED | UNLOCKED and S-ON.
By using fastboot I flashed:
memul-stock-recovery-2.16.401.1.img
twrp-2.8.1.0-20142812-memul.img
Via TWRP i flashed UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
When I reboot in Recovery mode I'm in TWRP v.2.8.1.0.
At this moment i am downloading the file:
0P8BIMG_M8_MINI_UL_K44_SENSE60_HTC_Europe_2.18.401.3_Radio_1.101.1102.19.1017_10.26.4149.00L_release_402779_combined_signed.zip
from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/general/stock-ruu-rom-recovry-htc-one-mini-2-t3250020

For your device looping in boot, you need to flash boot image to solve this issue, since you can't connect with PC you will have to place the file into your SD card and then choose option apply update from SD Card.
As for flashing stock ROM, you can only flash 2.18.xx.xx if you have a similar version or newer version, any older version will only work if you have S-Off, plus you can't flash stock ROM with TWRP you will need to flash stock recovery also through Apply Update from SD Card option to flash stock ROM.
Fully charge your device before performing flashes or you might make the device dead, if you are not sure how much charge do you have, leave it connected to power source for about 1.5 hours, turned off, looping device connected to charge can heat up the device.
I managed to flash the twrp and recovery (both were your files). But my phone only roboot to TWRP.
fastboot getvar all gives version-main: 2.19.401.1 and not 2.16.401.1.
How can I go back to 2.16.4011?
In fastboot it says:
TAMPERED
UNLOCKED
S-ON

You cannot flash both TWRP and stock recovery as, in a way they both are the same thing, you have to use only 1 of them, either Stock Recovery or TWRP.
You will NOT be able to flash any older version with S-On, the only way to get any old OS is to get a Nandroid backup from someone and restore it through TWRP.
What device is yours, Asia, Europe or is it a Network Locked unit ?
If you have TWRP and your device is no more looping, then you can try and restore this Nandroid, if you device is Europe then this will work definitely : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347818782
STEPS TO RESTORE NANDROID BACKUP THROUGH TWRP USING COMPUTER:
- REBOOT AND ENTER TWRP, PERFORM A BACKUP (THIS WILL CREATE A TWRP BACK UP FOLDER WITH DEVICE SERIAL NUMBER IN THE SD CARD) (ON DEVICE)
- DOWNLOAD AND EXTRACT THE NANDROID BACK UP FILE (ON COMPUTER)
- PLACE THE EXTRACTED FILES IN TO THE TWRP>BACKUP<DEVICE SERIAL NUMBER> FOLDER IN THE SD CARD (ON COMPUTER)
- RESTART THE DEVICE AND ENTER TWRP, CHOOSE RESTORE (ON DEVICE)
- LOCATE THE FOLDER COPIED IN THE ROOT OF THE SDCARD (ON DEVICE)
- SWIPE TO RESTORE (ON DEVICE)
- FOR SOME REASON THE NANDROID BACKUP DOES NOT CONTAIN CALCULATOR, FLASH LIGHT WHICH CAN BE DOWNLOADED HERE: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/htc-corporation/

Required Help with connecting phone to PC in order to root

I am trying to root my device, to the final goal of installing a Nougat build on it. Been browsing through lots of guides, including this one which looks rather friendly:
https://www.idroidspace.com/how-to-root-htc-one-m7/
The problem is that the software did not recognize my phone.
I have enabled USB debugging. the PC detects the phone, I also have HTC Driver installed (downloaded HTC Sync Manager).
I also unlocked the boot-loader in the past, with success to the best of my knowledge (anyway I can confirm?).
Another problem I got that may come from the same source is that when opening command prompt and putting ADB Devices it wouldn't detect anything.
I have already old version of TWRP installed but I cannot flash the nougat from it, and in order to update the TWRP I wanted to root the device.
Am pretty much a beginner but can follow orders.

It's a waste of time to root if you're planning to flash a Nougat rom. It's a well spread misconception when ppl say "I want to root my phone" cause you're not rooting the phone, you're rooting the operating system on it (the rom). Most custom roms are pre-rooted so when flashing it on your phone you'll already have root. If you flash a non-rooted rom over your already rooted rom, you'll loose root hence why it's a waste of time to do it now. The only thing needed to flash a custom rom is a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.

Make sure you have the latest drivers version. ADB commands are only usable when booted in the OS with usb debugging turned on and you also need to unlock your screen once after connecting the phone to your PC. ADB commands will also work when booted in TWRP recovery. WIll not work in bootloader mode where you have to use FASTBOOT commands.

You don't need root to update TWRP, just flash the latest version using fastboot in bootloader mode:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery file_name.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader

TWRP 2.6.3.0 is really outdated. This version does not have the required kernel to support the fstab file system used by recent roms. You need at least twrp 2.7.1.1, or the latest version: 3.1.N0.0
Are you using the original usb cable that came with the phone? If no you might want to double check if your usb cable is capable of data transfer (there are usb cables that only have the +5v and ground connections for charging but not the data+ and data- connections). Try another usb ports/cable.

You need to uninstall HTC sync manager, otherwise it will not work.
Or eaven better way is to install just naked drivers instead of sync manager.
