im not that experienced. but since 3 days that i was reading all threads around , i figured that werewolf kernel has the top cpu + gpu overclocking. though by default is set at some medium values or you could use the phone to keep u warm in the winter.
---------- Post added at 05:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:44 PM ----------
also because im an overclocking maniac and my pc is already 50% overclocked with liquid cpu cooler and more 6 air coolers, keep in mind that u cant overclock any machine more than 20% which is stable. so the max stable overclocking for our optimus cpu is to go to 1700. but thats the MAXIMUM stable. maximum means that it will get high temperature which is bad. but its ok. the optimus has functions that lower the cpu automatically so it cool again. If u connect the phone to charge it and play a game with 1700 cpu frequency it will get to max temperature in some minutes. so u wont be able to get any better perfomance from that. RESULTING: To overclock any machine u need to find a way to keep it cold. if the machine is cold then u can overclock as much u want. the phone doesnt have a way to keep cold, except if u hug an air-condition.

Thankyou verymuch for explaining but is there a possible way to make our phone cooler just like a pc fan cools the pc?

Some people have claimed getting a new non lg battery reduces heat because our battery is wrapped with a plastic that does not disperse hear well
Also others have bought graphite sheets

only 2. one is to be always next to an air-condition and the other is underclocking not overclocking. its impossible to overclock a phone to play smoother games and also keep it cool. its not like you can open it and put a fan inside all this overclocking thing is useful only if u wanna have some live wallpaper + many widgets running smoothly.

imho : it's not the battery that become hotter.. it's the cpu & gpu.. the battery position is below the LG logo..
you can feel the hot area is upper side of the LG logo...that's where the cpu placed..

Sorry I meant that the battery does not disperse heat well that why it keeps the phone is hotter for a longer period of time

You can always play inside a refrigerator...
... or remove the back cover and play without it (be careful for the battery won't fall out). Won't do MUCH difference tho..

I use wolfs 008b kernel on latest stable cyanogenmod with very good results for gamming.
I even play games underclocked @1200 and all games run smooth.
You can always tweak a lot of settings using trickster mod. I use a combo of weathley / row @1200 all the rest at default settings

Please don't open "best kernel/ROM/mod/...." threads. There is no best kernel, ROM,...
Every kernel/ROM has it's good and bad sides. Decide yourself

[Q] My note getting warm

Hello, Im new in Note, installed yesterday Slim Bean Rom and hydracorenirvana v7 OC kernel and I noticed that Note get warm, like 35-50 C while browsing internet or doing some low requerements stuff. I tried to low CPU to 1ghz but still the same... And while playing it jumps more then 50C, is that normal? I really dont want to burn it
Probably the media scanner is maxing the CPU, normal after installing a new ROM especially if you have a lot of files. Give it some time to settle down.

+1
Dont forget the Hydracore is a maxed out performance kernel, designed for ultimate speed, so it will generate more heat doing basic things unlike the stock kernel.
and not to mention the massive power hungry screen and huge battery inside, its normal so dont worry about it. If it gets to the point where its too hot to touch, just remove the battery for 10mins and allow it to cool down.
Can I OC and UV GPU with hydracore kernel? I have S2 with dorimanx kernel , there is Stweaks app its very usefull when I can choose battery or performance profiles. and its auto OC and UV on that kernel. Can we get something on Note?
there are many apps that can do this, Tegrak, SetCPU etc, but be careful messing with voltages as it can prevent the phone from functioning.
You can use a basic app such as no-frills-CPU to adjust OC and governors.

Yes, I know setcpu, but I want OC / UV GPU not CPU. On my S2 via STweaks I can OC/UV also GPU.
Ok, now Im on jellybam woth "voldemort" kernel and on battery it looks little less warmer but when I charging and try to play games or browse it gets really hot, like ~55C . Is it normal and not damage my Note? Also I always use 1ghz cpu speed. with 1.4 or 1.6 ghz its little bit warmer
55 is ok. No issues

Gaming [Battery] Discussion!

Since there's no other thread discuss this i decided to make one and keep the other Thread for battery discussion clean for normal use,
while we discuss the battery life here for gamers ONLY, so we can improve it. we dont discuss games bugs/issues here.
so here what we need to mention:
Rom
kernel: including any changes u included with volts .. ETC
and a pictures showing your battery life with screen on time + gaming time(how long u played)
and tell us what u think
I think good settings would be..
1) no forced oc gpu kernels, rather use one that lets you set it to 325mhz.. to keep heat down
2) use a kernel that lets you set max no. of cores and adjust max cpu for your liking or game being played
3) use good governor settings, games like 'temple run' original need it
it's no good flying off in full whack mode if in 5 minutes your phone overheats and throttles back everthing... or even give you the dreaded red led

Disappointed

I am very disappointed with this device. Since I bought this phone always had problems.
Starting from overheating when I'm playing something.
Then the side of the device begins to peel.
Then mold spots appear on the screen.
Then this whole bootloader, rom buggy, etc.
If this device was really good, I do not feel the need to change rom and make the machine go through so many updates. The handset comes with manufacturing a critical bug in the camera. Among other problems. Now I finally got my braces bad time. If I can not fix it I have to leave for Samsung.
I'm no novice user. I've had three devices of Lg.
Lg Optimus One Phone = Bug Phone.
Lg Optimus 2x = Bug Phone.
And now the Lg Optimus 4x = Hd Bug Phone.
I am seriously evaluating getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Visit the forum of this device in Xda. Hardly find complaints about it.
Lg P880 I bought this because it is cheaper, but now I find that cheap actually ends up costing too high.

Mold spots? If that's true you can't really blame the phone 'cause moisture = mold.
Also, try playing games on any phone and it will get hot. This goes for literally any device on the planet.

Yep same here the "quad core+1" tegra 3 "blazing fast" cpu is one real bad cpu to start with, it sucks for real tasks and overheats for that matter. the screen isn't like the other hd ips screens it has a yellow temperature tint unlike the others the blues look desaturated the most out of all the colors and it feels cheaply made.

please define your "overheating"
overheating is when your device powers off, due to 90°C processor temperature...
the tegra 3 default throttle temp is 85°C, LG's is 71°C... i changed the value in my custom kernel to 80°C, so we can get a better performance also with high temps...
and have you ever been thinking what's working in your device? you've got 4 CPU cores and 1 GPU core... now think of a normal PC, what does a normal PC have, what a phone doesn't? right, a fan. or cooling in general. so the higher temps are completely normal...

And stock rom? Buggy? I havent any stopped aplication since i have this phone, lg launcher is really good.
For me, only bad is camera and sound output with stock player (so im using poweramp )

If you have any problems like bubbles under the screen or excessive-myfingersareburning-overheating you should probably use your warranty and get this device checked by authorized personel. Personally, I had none of these problems you mentioned. Phone is rooted, bootloader is unlocked, CyanogenMod is happily running "under the hood". Stock ROM was pretty good for me, but CM is CM. You can't say 'no' to CM. If you don't like this phone, then sell it. Note 2 is indeed a powerful device, I'm sure that you'll be happy with it. But! This phone has yet to show its true power through custom ROMs and kernels. My old 2010 flagship - HTC Desire - got ROM with JB and Touchwiz5 powered by awesome custom kernel, so I really have no doubts that our O4X, which is 10 times stronger than Desire, will get some sick modifications sooner or later (starting with EternityProject kernel and CM 10.1). Cheers! :highfive:

I can't speak much of comparing the 4X to other phones as my last phone was some crappy chinese knock-off of a htc sensation. But my 4X is built very well (id like to see what you guys mention as 'bubbles' under your screen, was it like that since you brought it?) the phone does get ridiculously hot (you might have seen my thread about my screen suffering major distortion for a few hours, due to overheating while on ac charge ), but again well within tegra 3 specs (this this is stock clocked at 1.5ghz which is 200mhz higher than my tf300t tablet which has much more room to dissipate heat)
Im in love with the design of the phone, only issue i have is i feel the back button is on the wrong side but i use LMT launcher anyway(if you don't know what it is i suggest you look it up). The stock firmware was fine(no issues) other than feeling bloated, stock jellybean was slightly smoother and a bit lighter, CM10.1 is absolutely amazing and in my opinion increases the value of the phone drastically.
Just my take on it.....

Stop your n4 from overheating and stop under clocking to 1.2 GHz!!

so I have done the thermal paste in my phone and everything else to get my phone cold . and it still got hot so I found out the droid dna has almost the same chip set and HTC had fine tuned there thermald.conf more than just Google did with the source code . also like lg pumping out a base cheap phone without a thermal pad under the CPU.so if you navigate to system/etc/ you will see the thermald.conf file replace it with the droid DNA file and rename your stock one to thermald.conf.bak and change the permissions of the new one to rw-r-r and reboot and your phone runs much cooler .
I just hate it cause I do no social networking or gaming on my phone and it just web browsing .phone calls or texting and it got super hot even with a under volt and and mp decision off .
I guess the quest continues . I have kept the file off to save misguidance

How exactly is a config file that is supposed to underclock the CPU/GPU when the temperature gets too hot in order to cool the phone down supposed to make the phone run cooler without underclocking at all?

depends what the surrounding temps are and what you are doing. if its going over 80C and youre not doing anything(idling), thats beyond normal. if you are hitting 70C and are playing a cpu intensive game for a bit, thats still normal. if your phone does actually overheat, itll hit the cpu safety temp and turn itself off, to cool down. i believe its 95 or 100C. ive actually hit 100C(trying to get it that hot), and it shut itself down. then i just booted it back up(was around 40C when it booted). depending on the air temp around you, and what you were just doing with the device, idling temps in the mid 40C to 50C are still normal.

underclocking and/or and undervolting is really all you can do, the are plenty of protections in the kernel for individual components from overheating, the phone will begin to throttle (automatically underclock) around 75c generally and shut down in the mid 80c. So other than the battery drain, theres not really anything to be concerned with.

How hot is the phone allowed to be? I wouldnt say that my 4XHD catches fire, but when I do something like play a game it is so hot that I cant touch the back of the phone for ~10 seconds because its too hot. Is this bad for the phone? I did no overclocking oder such things. Stock kernel and Vanir 4.3.

Well theoretically the SoC will start to deteriorate rapidly around mid 90c+ but it has built in protections, independent of kernel/ android to prevent that, still you would have to go out of your way to disable/ remove all protections in the kernel source before that become a problem.
The kernel will shutdown around mid 80s (this number is usually tweaked in custom kernels) but before that the cpu will start throttling mid 70s (and usually temps wont go past this)

Modern circuits start to degrade at about 70 degrees but below that they will do just fine, 70 degrees will burn your skin to blisters.
