This is obvious to advanced users but just so you guys have a heads up if you flash this you cannot use the current RSD lite package to go back to 4.2.2 stock before the update. There is a bootloader change that won't allow that SBF to flash anymore.

Does the bootloader change affect your ability to unlock it through their website at all? I'm assuming it shouldn't but just making sure.

Wouldn't think so, I just think even though you have an unlocked bootloader they don't allow a downgrade on it. Partition 2 will fail to flash and no go past that...
That being said....if you still have the ability to fastboot images you can probably just flash the old system.img and boot.img and get the phone to boot with the old firmware...that might not be correct though, probably should have a pro affirm that.

If bootloader is unlocked you can flash anyone you want any time... If not you're stuck (until you unlock). If it changes the bootloader then I'm sure the exploit which allowed root in the first place has been patched.
P.S. Why is this in development?

Through motorola bootloader unlock program on their website. A quick google search will bring up the link.

I believe it only changed kernel, firmware and camera software files.
I was wondering why it was in development as well. Should be in General, I think.

Cant find the recoverie to flash. That wil flash. A kk rom without error 7
Verstuurd vanaf mijn C6603 met Tapatalk
Which rom?
Usually the rom comes with a kernel that includes the correct recovery -
- Extract the boot.img from the rom zip that you want to flash.
- Flash that with fastboot or use the fastboot mode in Flashtool if you're not comfortable with using the command line.
- Boot into recovery and flash the rom.

Is it possible to flash the kernel.sin for the same effect from stock ftf-s?
Stock kernels do not have a custom recovery.

I dont want a custom recovery I want to OTA after removing a custom recovery and I want to do it without flashing my entire system.
Basically I'm asking you if the ORIGINAL STOCK RECOVERY is flashable with kernel.sin
Then explain yourself better in the first place. You said the same effect. This is a different question altogether.
Just flash a stock FTF using Flashtool and exclude everything but the kernel.

Yes, you can.
Edit - There's nothing wrong with the PM system. I'm just not sat here all day waiting for people to PM me questions.

What the hell is stopping it ffs
It depends. If your bootloader is unlocked, you need to relock it to update OTA. Sometimes if you modified /system in any way (like deleting system apps, flashing mods etc), an OTA will fail.

Yeah, bootloader is locked, didnt delete any system apps,no mods flashed except superSU...when I look at the update logs it shows a redbend_verify error and ua_updater start error. If only there was a way I can logcat the actual update and see what the hell it's checking.

The OTA failed multiple times for me when I was only rooted as well. In the end, I just flashed the update with Flashtool and unlocked my bootloader to root. It was quicker than messing around trying to get the OTA to work.

I flashed the generic DE ftf except I didn't wipe data. Now I have a weird hybrid, but everyting works, lost root but used some japanese rootkit and got that back. Then wiped data on the update app and got a whole new update,10.4.B.0.569 and tried to install it...Of course it didn't work!
Now the problem is either in the Data partition or root is the problem. Most likely I'm gonna try without root and then if it works I'm gonna try the insanely complicated 4.3 root with bootloader relocking and all that ****
Edit: Btw It's weird,I'm looking at the update logs and it says Rooting not done

First, you need Stock recovery on your phone. Since you have ATT, you likely have a locked bootloader so you do have it in place.
Next, inside the OTA is a manifest file. It contains a list of files and their check sums it expects to be on your phone. If the files are missing, or the check sum doesn't match, the OTA will fall. So you likely changed or deleted something on your phone which the OTA needs to be there.
Did you do any hacks? change or remove any APK files?
Oh, and lets not forget.. Since you have ATT and a locked bootloader (unless you paid for a code from the Chinese site), if you've rooted using RockMyMoto, SlapMyMoto or the like, and used MotoWpNoMo to disable write protection... after you get 4.4.2 OTA to install, you'll keep root but the effects of MotoWpNoMo will be undone, and you'll have Write Protection ENABLED... so anything you need to change in /system or the like wont survive Power Off/On (aka hard boot). So you won't be able to update SuperSU later, etc.. making Root pretty useless.

I believe if we get 5.1 then it will kill root, this update just bug fixes. I will wait till we get a rooted update.
I was willing to test if taking the OTA would break root. Unfortunately I've tried twice to take the update but it keeps failing. Not sure if I have something frozen that is causing the installation failure.

OTAs will never reverse S-OFF, at least I have never heard of one doing so....I guess technically it could, but HTC does not have a history of doing that. You have to enter a specific fastboot cmd to go back to S-ON

'Quadrooter' flaws affect over 900 million Android phones
Moto X 2nd gen is vulnerable to the Quadrooter according to this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.checkpoint.quadrooter
Since Motorola never released any security patch and Moto X is out of their future OS update program, what are the options left for the existing Moto X 2nd gen users who want to stick with stock ROM and don't want to part with their Moto X any time soon?
i allready check with Quad Rooter Scan and its possitive the mobile had the 4 vulnerabilities.....the only solution is go to cm13 ....for the moment when the patch is out go back to stock. I hope it will be soon, the news is everywhere so Qualcom has to do something.

I had a tough time because I couldn't find the 6.0 system files. Are they available anywhere?
I've also been getting nagged about a security update. I'm rooted so I've been ignoring it. If it's important I'd also like to see a version that's flashable while rooted.

I received a security update zip this morning. Unfortunately, I haven't posted enough on XDA to be able to include a link to it. Maybe someone will put it up for everyone.
I would love to have a version of it that I can flash while rooted. I'm not really looking forward to reverting to stock and doing that whole mess...

Put it on your internal storage and reboot to recovery. Select apply update from sdcard (or something like that). This will only work if you are truly stock with no modifications to the system partition.

Thanks, I was also thinking about that option in recovery if it will work, but never tried so was skeptical.
One more thing, if I update through this route then will my stock phone will turn into 'modified' one or will remain stock? Will there be any problem in case some OTA arrives?
This should leave you 100% stock

Received a security update today. Not sure if it fixes this bug.
