I just ordered a Moto X Verizon, and I will be rooting it and flashing Eclipse rom onto it. Is there any reason not to take all the OTA updates from Verizon, and then root and do safestrap or? Not sure how it works. I
Thank you
Go read Jcase "slap my moto" thread in original development and after your done....read it again. The many posts in that thread have the answers your looking for pertaining to OTAs and what goes along with rooting the moto x on 4.4

No custom rom for you then unless you install SafeStrap.
Yea I know I'd have to use safestrap. But is the latest OTA root able and safestrapable? Just wanted to be sure before I take the ota update from Verizon

Safestrap is not KK compatible yet AFAIK.
And yes it is rootable. Good amount of work though.

there is no know root explot for 4.4.. u have to root on 4.2.2.
on that note, I have used jcase's RockMyMoto to root mine and I get threw everything having root access and try to install the 4.4 OTA update and it keeps rebooting.. won't stop (on 5th time now?) ideas?
I have at&t LG Flex, rooted and than updated to kitkat, surprised was when it updated to Kikat and root was retained, I used all applications that require supersu and work like charm.
Follow this, If you did not upgraded root it with ioroot and don't unroot it, take OTA update and you will keep the root.
If you upgraded, downgrade it via lgflashtool method, root with ioroot and update ota and you will keep the root..Good Luck

What did you do before hand? Cuz you're literally the only person so far i think. I tried everything and even went back to jelly bean 3 times trying to retain root with different programs. It would always error out on the update screen

Basically what I did was I rooted on JB and when KK update came, I removed root from superSu "unroot", I tried to upgrade to Kikkat and failed, so I did lgflashtool (you directed me by the way) and flashed it to JB, rooted again and kept the root and superSu..tried update from menu and went through and kept the root.

I was unable to try it out last night, ever since upgrading to kit Kat i can no longer choose which mode to connect (usb only, mtp, etc) so after flashing back the problem followed me which prevented me from running ioroot successfully. Luckily i had ordered a new flex yesterday from AT&T after their service center confirmed something was borked during the update, it'll be here Monday. Can't do anything till then.

So far it's only available for AT&T so that's nothing to "upload". Without recovery for these phones there's no way to create roms from kit Kat source

Downgrade to 4.2.2 then root phone using ioroot then take the 4.4.2 update this is for att g flex only you should retain root

Read this article http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...ve-and-maybe-almost-any-other-current-device/
If it works, get your little butt back here and tell us.
This seems like Iit would only be for a device on AT&T or Verizon. I'm hesitant to attempt this method on my flex. I would be OK with giving it a go if I had a back up phone JIC
Autoprime posted this in his root thread. Should work for any device before June third. 4.3

Ran it on the AT&T D950 bone stock running 4.4.2 and according to root checker it says it's rooted....WHOOOOT !!!!!

I just tried rooting my g flex D950G Rogers Canada Variant on 4.2.2 with this tool and it worked! Haven't tried installing a custom recovery yet but i have installed xposed and gravity box and its confirmed working
I'm about to try this for myself. I plan on using an existing CWM (I'm on 4.2.2), flashing stock KK, and rooting with Towelroot. Will I lose my CWM?
this works on my flex d958( kitkat) , great work
Works on my AT&T G Flex.
I got a buddy that's been waiting on root method for his AT&T GS5 on 4.4.2 and he tried it today with success. Just download the apk and click "make it rain".

Worked here too!
This worked on my phone as well.
That is, ATT LG G Flex 4.4.2.
Time to try a new ROM!
Cool, glad to see this worked. We need a freaking recovery now so we can flash zip files.
Why do we not have a recovery for this? I dunno jack about making the recovery etc just curious.

If you root with this method ,can you unroot just uninstalling the apk or not ?
I'm pretty sure it just roots using an exploit once. After you run towelroot, it shouldn't matter if it stays installed.

No only with apk.
You must download SuperUser from market and go to the option root uninstall. You run it and you are unroot.

See you in the Greek forum
A guy above said june 3rd 4.3. but can someone confirm it will do 4.4 kit kat?
I want to go back to stock (im on jelly bean now)
then take the OTA to jelly bean
then run this apk
will it give me root?
Is there a way to root the at&t xt1097 variant? I don't care about the boot loader I just want TiBu and my xposed again. Any info or help would be appreciated!
Nope. Only the versions with unlockable bootloaders can be rooted. If you are within your return window, I'd suggest returning it and picking up the Pure edition instead. I'm using the Pure on AT&T without any issues, and I'm happily unlocked and rooted.

Any luck with root using chainfire's autoroot for the at&t model? My moto x 2014 is arriving in a week and It would be a bummer if I can't root it. I came from using a nexus 5 with root and custm ROM installed.

Nope, still no root. If root is that important, then return the one that's coming and buy a Pure edition. That's what I have and it works great on AT&T. And I'm unlocked and rooted
My Moto G 4G is still not showing the Lollipop update here in the UK even though some people seem to have it.
Does rooting have an effect as well?
Oops I'm in the wrong forum.
I would like to know that as well

If you are just rooted and haven't flashed a custom recovery then you should be able to get the update. If you are using a custom recovery then you will probably receive the OTA, but you won't be able to update until you are on a stock recovery.
