Anyone having issues playing movies where there's no sound? Every time I open a movie that's on my SDCard, I get an error message saying "Unsupported Audio Codec." However, the video plays fine.
Not sure if it's a Note 3 issue or not but when I had the Galaxy S4, the movies played fine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using the stock program to play it? Are you open to use a third party player? I found mx player to be the best one out there or ive heard vlc is good too

Stock. I've never had a problem with the stock player but worst case scenario I can give MX a try.
Definitely seems to be a difference from the stock video player on the Note 2. My pirated mkv files with dolby 5.1 tracks indicate "unsupported audio codec" on my new Note 3 but played fine on my Note 2.
Fortunately, the files can still be served to my Sammy TV from the Note 3 and my surround receiver still gets the Dolby bits to decode.
Guess I'll use a different player for playing them on-device.

Could be related to new security features implemented on this

Not really sure what security features you're referring to as I am just getting caught up on all this for the first time in about six months.
Do you have a link where I could learn more about the security features you referred to?

Its all the new knox stuff which goes with the locked bootloader. There are a few threads here that talk about it.

Was shocked to find that audio in regular Divx and mkv files don't even play on the Note 3, while they played fine on the Note 2. That was one of the most important features for me, god damnit.
The reason most, if not all, aftermarket players suck is they have BT audio lag. Only the stock apps have ever worked flawlessly for me. The video app on the Note 2 was fantastic.
---------- Post added at 04:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------
Here's the problem:
Note 3: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, Vorbis
Note 2: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, MIDI, OGG, AC-3
See AC3 support in the Note 3? Neither do I. It's a very popular audio codec, and Samsung (or Qualcomm) decided we didn't need it. Even the Nexus 4 supports AC3. This is god damn infuriating.
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:00 PM ----------
AT&T is even falsely advertising it with AC3 support: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-note-3-jet-black.html.
Same problem here. Very disappointed. Coming from the N2, and the Optimus G pro, both stock players played all my files with no issues.
The N3 player seems very stripped. I also have Mx player, but that does not support DLNA, which is very important to me.

sucks that the onboard player is so stripped down compared to the N2.
I am also disappointed in the stock player's lack of support for ac3, but I've discovered it can still be used as a source server to play mkv files on my phone to my Samsung TV and surround sound receiver.
While the audio track cannot be rendered by the player on-device, the Dolby bits are correctly sent to and seen by the Samsung TV via the wireless connection to my phone and then passed to the receiver by the TV.
This was my primary use case for the player software on my N2, so I'm not as bummed by this loss as some others may be.
I feel sure that somewhere some Samsung engineer will read this post and add "Break Dolby pass-through" to the to-do list for the next N3 software update.

Work around for now...
Download mx player from play store. Open mx player and go to settings/ decoder and scroll to the bottom and download custom codec that is recommended. Use a file manager like root explorer and extract the custom codec. Then go back to mx player settings/ decoder scroll to the bottom and install the custom codec then set mx player to use s/w decoder (local) and s/w audio then start the movie over and there ya go. Took me a minute to figure out but at least I can watch my movies with sound again. Good luck

Generally i dont encourage piracy so i will assume that you legally own these movies (read forum rules). Bottomline you cant watch this movie until you convert them into friendly format for the galaxy tab.
Follow this guide: http://www.thetechjournal.com/how-to/convert-and-watch-movies-on-samsung-galaxy-tabhow-to.xhtml
It should play just fine, no need off a other player, the stock one is as good and even better then the one's you find at market.
Just be shore that it not have DTS,DD audio, because Galaxy tab can't handle that audio.

Unless the Verizon one is crippled, those files should play just fine as the tab supports DivX, mp3, h264 and AAC among the other things. Could be an audio issue, but honestly i have trouble imagining an avi with an audio stream that's more than stereo. Then again, i've seen some of the weirdest stuff, like an h264 video inside an avi...

From a quick Google, if you are being asked to download CoralPlayer, then the movies you are downloading are not actually usable, and you are being scammed.
What application allows us to download paid movies similar to iTunes? I have an iPad but prefer to use my Tab for watching flicks instead?

Here are top 5 Android movie APPs for movie lovers. You can use some of these APP to download or watch movies on Galaxy tab conveniently: " Netflix (free, streaming: US only)", "IMDb Movies & TV (free)", "VLC Direct Pro ($2.86)", "Movie Collection (free, ad-less version for $2.99)" and "GetGlue (free)". In addition, you also can rip DVD TO GALAXY TAB, but you need to consider the issue of legality. Good Luck !
Mobo player is great.
It now has support for subtitles within MKV containers without having to extract them. subtitles are great for foreign movies or for the hearing impaired and anime.
It also supports selecting audio track from within the container file. ie, Eng, JP audio track selection. I see a bright future for this app.

Have you tried restarting your tab ?
I experienced those issues on DXJPE if i let it run for more than 1 day without reboot
this requirement of reboot has driven me nuts and started rooting and flashing endlessly.
yes, i also try the moboplayer, it's pretty good, and you can try rockplayer and vplayer, they are also great. but i find HD mkv files can't play on rockplayer, and play on the vplayer unsmoothly.
and maybe you can try some video converter, then convert your video to the right format.
My Tab plays ripped blu-rays perfectly fine (mp4 format). Look at signature for Tab details. I agree with poster above...restore!
my tab can play bluray rip 720/1080p mkv/mp4/wmv thru stock/mobo player without problem...

Hi,
I want to play tv-show 720p MKVs on my droid 3.
However there's a problem.
The stock player plays MKVs fine (very smooth) but there's no audio.
I then tried rockplayer and moboplayer.
Both play the MKVs fine too in hardware mode, but again no sound
In software mode, both players produce sound however now the video is very choppy.
What player WILL play MKVs properly?
Thanks

Just tried it (neon version).
It has sound but like the others..very choppy and corruption too.
Read some good things about dice player. Tried the beta but it doesn't even show video (all corrupted colors etc).
I had the same problem with stupid-ass DICE player, big disappointment. Mobo is good for standard def, but not for hi-def/MKV.
The .MKV standard was invented by the guys at CoreCodec IIRC, which would explain how I used to be able to play 720p MKV's on my old 528MHz Tilt2 with CorePlayer; the player is naturally a master of its own codec... Do they make CorePlayer for Android? I bet it would totally play anything MKV better than any other player.

The thing is, it DOES play the MKV just great! It's very very smooth on hardware acceleration.. If they could just add the sound from software decoder mode..
All TV-shows use Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch audio. I know it's not the most simple, but how hard can it be to convert 6>2 channel and play this?
Hrm... Have you tried CorePlayer? I think they have a demo/trial version.
[EDIT] - Well crap-sticks. Looks like they don't have it for Android yet. It's $30 though, so not a cheap app anyways. It would have been a surefire method though...

BTW, just in case, trans coding just the audio of a video file, with avidemux, is matter of a couple of minutes, practically on an actual pc, it takes less than copying the file on the phone.

Hello,
Bad surprise for multimedia user like me : there is no more support of AC3 audio format and other codecs :
Galaxy tab 7.7 :
audio : MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, FLAC, AMR-NB/WB, Vorbis, AC3, EVRC
vidéo : H.264/H.263, MPEG-4, VC-1, WMV7, WMV8, Sorenson Spark, MP43, VP8, HEVC
Galaxy tab S :
audio : MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WAV, FLAC
vidéo : H.263, H.264, MPEG4, WMV
Bad, yes. Surprise, no. They've been gone for almost a year starting with the N3.

maybe you already knew about this, but just download these files and the stock video player now plays AC3 sound just fine.
http://www20.zippyshare.com/v/64965084/file.html
just put the media_codecs.xml in the etc folder and libsac3d.so and libsomxac3d.so in the lib folder, then reboot the tablet
BSplayer has been able to hard decode every codec you can think of for several years now on sammy devices, stereo and multi channel, if plays everything I have thrown at it from AVI to MKV to MP4 in all sorts of different formats, even on their free version, there really is nothing that can touch it, it even has network access.
Once you have discovered this player the discussion ends, this will be everything you will ever need.

Hi da.trute,
I was a fan of BSplayer too, I even bought the pro version, but on the Tab S 10.5 (S 805) I notice a lot of micro stuttering in hardware accelerated mode.
I had to go with MX Player and I can say it is much smoother (H/W+ enabled).
I do miss the internal SMB support of BSPlayer, but I flashed the excellent SkyHigh TW Kernel 1.9 by @UpInTheAir and now I can mount my SMB shares from my NAS with CIFS Manager.
I can use then the internal playlist function of MX Player (play next randon movie basically) as all the files in the SMB share mounted by CIFS Manager are considered local files.
BSPlayer PRO is still working great on my Note 10.1 (2012 version).

It is probably only due to my specific configuration. .
AC3 and DTS audio seems to be ok, but I have not tried listening with headphones so I'm not sure about proper stereo downmixing.
Anyway I'm on stock 4.4.2 ANF6 build with a custom skyhigh kernel and MX player is buttery smooth.
I can play mkv 1080 files perfectly (roughly 8gb) and my extensive collection of series and cartoons (mostly in xvid sd) plays fine.
God knows. .

Has anyone been able to figure out how to play videos with AC3 audio inside Gear VR? When I play such (2D or 3D) videos, the video plays fine but there is no sound and I get a pop-up that the audio codec is not supported. In non-Gear VR mode, the stock video player can play such files with video only but the BS Player app can play such files just fine with both video and audio.
Since most of my videos have AC3 audio, it is a real pain if I have to convert the audio every time before copying such video files from the PC to Note 4 SD card.
Thanks,
Osho
I have read that ac3 codec is no longer included in factory rom because licensing fees. I think the only way would be to reencode movies to files with sound natively supported by Note4

Until Oculus or another developer includes more audio codecs, Gear VR supports only AAC and mp3 audio for now.
With Virtual Dub you can easily and fast convert your movies tho, when you set video to passthrough and only the audio to convert. Takes only a few minutes to convert a movie then.
Sounds easy enough but would you so kindly post slightly more details to doig this in virtual dub? (Not a bioshock reference)
