I just upgraded my HTC One (from stock rooted 4.1.2) by flashing to stock rooted 4.3. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the file system changed and that I needed to copy my SD card data (including of course titanium backups) to external storage and move it back after the upgrade.
I understand I can use Root Explorer to do the move, but is there a more robust and easier way to do this? Is there any way to access the data through the PC with something friendlier then adb (e.g.windows file explorer)? I did create a nandroid before I flashed. Should I just flash back, move the data, and reflash the update?
Why do you need to move it to external storage then back again? Don't you just move it within the phone? I know you want something friendlier than adb, but honestly one command you cut and paste into the shell window and it's done within seconds.
Or download a file Explorer in the phone and move them manually.

Thank you both for your replies.
I went down the adb route. A little more complicated than I thought it would be. I had to, of course, update adb and along the way I got driver conflicts. Then I was left with deciding which folders needed to move, which should stay, and which were just old cruft.
It seems the directories legacy, obb, as well as hidden file .htc_layout_version should stay (as well as, of course, "0"). I kept .aid.bak as well, mostly because I have no cluse what that file is. Most everything else was cruft or "obvious" user files that got moved.
Al I have left in \data\media\ are the directories 0, clockworkmod, legacy, obb, and the file .htc_layout_version and .aid.bak. I hope I didn't screw anything up.
Seems my base configuration is using more space then before I migrated (roughly 11gb without the clockworkmod backups).

HI guys,
Last night, got my new 8gb class 6 card, and took it into ubuntu and recreated all my partitions. Then did a copy from the old partition to new one...
Then did a reset ext security thing from the recovery console, however one issue is still out there... 4 apps didn't copy across correctly. They can't be uninstalled or reinstalled and are just refusing to work at all anymore.
When I try to reinstall from ADB, it spits out:
INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES
Any ideas how I can fix it?
they should just auto delete any new thread that ends with a question mark in the dev forums....
gunigugu if your too dull to get what im saying, POST IN TH PROPER PLACE
( Capslock is cruise control to success)
I've had issues of not being able to uninstall something, the only solution I found was download the apk file off the internet then installing, then uninstalling.
How did you copy it over?
The *right* way is to use the "dd" command.
dd if=/path/to/sdcard-device-file of=/path/to/store-image-in
switch the card
dd if=/path/to/store-image-in of=/path/to/sdcard-device-file
Now you can move and resize your partitions, and its done.

I just did a copy and paste within the ubuntu explorer
Everything works, except I think the protected apps.... and I would uninstall / reinstall them, but the option to uninstall the apps is grayed out.
I am about to undertake the task of factory restoring my Moto Droid (for reasons I won't bore you with). I'm rooted, and have Rom Manager for Nandroid backups (so I flashed a new recovery), but other than that I'm running stock.
I don't want to redownload all of my apps, so I want to copy them over to my PC and push them back to the phone later using adb. My issue is, I cannot find the apps I have moved to the SD card. What is their file pathway?
I've used Astro and Terminal Emulater (with the ls command) to try to find the pathway, but I'm at a complete loss.
Before you say anything, I know Astro can backup apps; however, it does not back up apps that are stored on the SD card. And I have too many apps to move them all to internal storage to back them up with Astro.
I really need to find the file pathway so I can copy the .apk's. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
the easy way, try titanium backup
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
I ended up just playing 'musical chairs' with the apps on the SD card to put them on the internal storage to back them up with Astro. It worked pretty well, though was unnecessarily time consuming.
And a lot of the best features in Titanium cost; I know it's supporting the dev, but I'm an eternal cheap skate when it comes to apps...
Hey guys. I was on the ICS4Bionic ROM by dhacker and used Safestrap, going through a normal installation and boot and everything. After deeming it as not usable daily for me, I decided to back out and return to my debloated stock 2.3.
That was actually my first time using Safestrap, so a few things are unclear to me. Once I toggled safe mode off and returned to my stock ROM, to 'back out' completely (just gives me a peace of mind), I uninstalled recovery and also used Root Explorer to delete the safestrap folder in my internal SD (had a large 300MB folder 'orig' in it). One thing I notice is that my application storage seems lower than before (3.29GB as opposed to 3.5GB+, which would seem more normal to me). Is there something large left over taking up this space that I'm not aware of?
My primary storage location is the external SD (pictures/video/music), so the only thing taking up my application storage is obviously apps. But these definitely don't take ~700MB of space. Could anyone weigh in on whether this really is just my apps and I'm just being miscalculating or if it has anything to do with my use of Safestrap earlier? If it has anything to do with the latter, how do I go about recovering that space so it's available for my use again?
Thanks.
Alright so I've been doing some reading.. I forgot that everything from the enabled safe mode is in the 'preinstall' partition. I went to that folder (/preinstall) and ALL the apks from the ICS4Bionic are still there. The app folder inside takes up over 250MB, which I'm assuming is the missing space I've been asking about.
Before I do anything rash, I want to know if it's unsafe for me to touch the /preinstall folder and get rid of these apps. Do I delete everything in the /preinstall folder (there are many other folders i.e. xbin, fonts, framework, etc.) or will that kill my chance of ever using Safestrap again? I just want my space back. I have no need for any of those ICS apps at the present time.
It also seems that I have TWO preinstall folders; one in /system and one at the first level of the internal SD.
Permissions for the one at the base level of internal SD: rwxrwx--x
Date: 11 Feb 12
Permissions for the one in /system: rwxrwxrwx (and a '-> preinstall' to the right of said permissions)
Date: 15 Aug 11
Yet BOTH preinstall folders have those apps from the ICS4Bionic ROM and other folders that were created on 11 Feb 12. I'm very confused.
I managed to update my rooted stock 4.1.2 to 4.3 today. After replacing my recovery with stock, the update went off without any problems.
I have hit a wall now however.
When I attempt to access by sdcard from within android, I am getting a small set of empty folders (download, data etc.). I've attempted to download the SuperSU package to multiple locations.
Problem is when I attempt to install superSU from within CWM. In CWM, I see my old sdcard files.
Is there any reason I can't see my existing sdcard files within android?
This is proving most frustrating.
I'm swapped out to TWRP, which shows the same files on the sdcard as I can see within android, so I've been able to obtain root.
I do note that there is still 12GB tied up in "other" files on my system however, so my original sdcard files must be someplace. I just can't seem to locate them.
**********
Update:
I flashed CWM back after getting root in place. CWM is still mounting my old sdcard. So it's still on the device, but I'm thinking it's not being mounted by my rom for some reason.
Looks like I've solved it.
For some reason, 4.3 and TWRP are mounting my old sdcard as /shell/emulated and my new sdcard as /shell/emulated/0
I've heard of similar things happening, but was under the impression that updates from 4.1.2 moved existing sdcard folders into the "0" folder
Regardless, I'm going to just bulk copy and paste my way back to sanity.
Is there a way to change what CWM is mounting as sdcard?

you could use a symlink: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991657
Though I think newer versions of the recovery fixed that, but I haven't updated my recovery so I just use the symlink method.
Really pulling my hair out over this issue. I installed the latest version of the GPE Lollipop 5.0.1 ROM that can be found in the Development section on my HK One M8, clean flash and everything with the .zip located at the root of my internal storage, and now when I boot up, I can't access any of my files. I have no pictures, no music, no download folder, etc. When I try to locate my files in ES File Explorer, nothing comes up, and when I plug my phone into my desktop, the only folder I have is "Ringtones". I've read a couple posts that suggest using TWRP to format the entire storage, but I have no external SD card to install a ROM from. Added to this, when I choose "Mount" in TWRP and plug into the desktop, nothing happens. USB OTG isn't even an option that I can select, it just sits there and never actually checks the checkbox. This never happened while I was using digitalhigh's GPE ROM (the one in the Verizon development section), and I'm just at a complete loss right now. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Edit: Strangely enough, when I use TWRP'S file browser, even when choosing to flash a .zip file, I can see everything there, all my files right where I left them, all the folders still intact.

I have the same exact issue right now. I happened just as you described it; flashing the 5.0.1 GPE ROM. I CAN get into the storage, however, when I mount my phone to my computer through TWRP. A BIG problem, however, is that I can't copy any files into the phone. I get a "File size limit exceeded" message.
I did some digging here and on other forums and it would SEEM that something happened during the ROM flash that completely changed the file system. Where it used to be FAT32 (I think), it now says "Generic Hierarchical." This particular file system apparently only has a file limit of 4 gigs. Anything above that and it won't accept it.
I'm currently trying to find a way to fix this but I've got nothing. I can't even flash a new ROM or anything because I'm locked out of my phone's storage.

Sorry if I am replying too late, but I ended up in this same boat and this was the top result for what I was searching for on Google and the symptoms were exactly the same, I could see my files on TWRP but it seems like internal storage wasn't being mounted when booting into the rom. What I ended up doing was using TWRP's File Manager (under Advanced menu) to copy the contents of the internal storage to my external sd card. After that I did an advanced wipe and included internal storage (which seems to format it) and finally internal storage became available when booted into a rom again, and I didn't even have to sacrifice my files.
My Workaround/Fix
Although I don't own an HTC One, I encountered the same problem after flashing a ported ROM to a BLU Studio-G. So I'm sharing my Workaround/Fix: Reboot to recovery (TWRP in my case); Make a backup of the current ROM; Recovery will create another folder inside the original TWRP/Backup folder; After the backup completes, hit 'Restore' and make a note of the location of that folder; return to main menu and reboot.
I used Root Explorer but I imagine other competent File Managers can be used: Now move the other backup folders to the new location in the TWRP/Backup folder and that should solve the problem. All backup folders will again be available to be restored in Recovery. :good::victory: Hope this helps someone else before having to purchasing a wig
