[Q] Error mounting /system& /data - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hii,
I'm tried to set the [ROM][4.3] SlimBean - I9000 on my Galaxy S. Rooted my phone, set the files Slim-galaxysmtd-4.3.build.1-OFFICIAL.zip and Slim_AIO_gapps.4.3.build.1.zip on my extern sd-card. Started recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and then tried to install zip, selected the Slim-galaxysmtd-4.3.build.1-OFFICIAL.zip. Then it goes wrong, it says after finding/opening and installing update:
Slim Roms
Format and Mount system, Mount Data...
Error in /external_sd/Slim-galaxysmtd-4.3.build.1-OFFICIAL.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
If I try to manual mount /system or /data it says Error mounting /system!. What can I do?? I use Semaphore CWM Recovery v6.0.3.6

I had this kind of thing today with another rom.
I rebooted the device normally, when it started i went back to recovery mode, and flashed the rom again.

him tengles
The problem is, I can't boot normally, I stucks with the Semaphore logo on the screen..

Well, I also tried Mackay kernel+rom, but every time I get the message Unable mount /data and /system.... Don't know how to fix this erros..

Solution:- Most likely you have a incompatible CWM, or your Zip files are corrupted or you have mounted /system or /data
you can mount data in CWM mount and storage, when unmounted or change correct kernel ( meaning correct CWM) for the ROM you have. Try flashing Gear kernel, if you are uing 4.3 versions already.

My friend has a Bell GT-i9000M phone. I am not sure what he did but I believe he applied lagfix and tried to update to 2.3
Current status is that I am able to get to Dowload mode.
I have tried:
1. Darkys stock rom: http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-this-is-the-stock-rom-for-sgs-gt-i9000.1115/
(No success)
2. JPU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10449932&postcount=7 (no success)
3. JL2/Speed Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975 - No success.
I can get into recovery but I get can't mount DBDATA error.
Currently the phone is rebooting constantly at Galaxy S GT-i9000M screen.
If I flash only JPU, it get stuck a round circle, I have waited about 15 mins with no change. I have used ODIN 1.3 and 1.82 and 1.83.
HELP!
What else to try?
This is where I am so far:
Phone boots with 2.2 with 0 for SD card and internal. Followed instructions as per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973687
Now, trying to use sdparted or parted.
If I use parted, using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937072 and http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...56396__hl__sdparted__fromsearch__1#entry56396, I am able to get to:
Step 4:
okay now copy all the six files you pushed into the /system directory to the /sbin directory and set permissons like this:
#cp /system/[xyz] /sbin
#chmod 0755 /sbin/[xyz]
(replace the [xyz] with the filenames..do this for all 6 files..)
now get into the /sbin directory
#cd /sbin
#ls
This should display all the files in your /sbin
The parted files you copied should be here...
Now lets start partitioning..
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 and hit enter.
here it should get you into the parted prompt..(parted)
enter "print"
>(parted) print
Click to collapse
However instead of listing, I get "can't have a partition outside the disk parted"
I am stuck at this point. I am currently using adb in normal mode. If I reboot to CLM SpeedMod recovery, I only get $ when typing adb shell, and su results in permission denied. I have tried installing super user via recovery but no go.
ThoughtS?
Anyone ?

I had the same problem a while back
You should be able to fix it if you odin flash UGJL2
^ Endless BOOT!
Followed JL2 instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950&highlight=JL2

endless boot is fine as long as when you go back into recovery your SD card can be mounted unlike before.
So i ask, is it mounting now?
If it is, your free to flash any other ROM
Hi Jay,
No go on recovery mode. Vol up + home + power doesn't get me anywhere. Vol down + home + power gets to download mode.
Phone continues bootlooping...
you mean you are still getting the same error in recovery?
sorry that didnt work for you as i had the exact same error and that is what worked for me.
I then flashed darky 10.2 RE once i could mount my SD card

HELP!!! My SGS i9000 is stuck in bootloop.

Help. MY SGS i9000 is stuck at bootloop. I had CM7 installed before, i was flashing back to stock rom and i got stuck in bootloop. i get "Android system recovery <3e>
E:failed to mount /dbdata
E:delete_data_files : cant mount /dbdata
How did you try to flash the stock rom? From recovery or with Odin?
Edit.
The stock rom/kernel cant read the filesystem that CM7 used, so it must be converted back (I think)
One way to do this would be to flash a stock rom with odin, using a .pit file and ticking the "Re-Partition" box
I flashed it using odin. Will try your tip
Tried your tip. Didnt work.
Edit (again) So sorry, i forgot to mention you need the android 2.2.1 firmware because for diffrent bootloaders in gingerbread.
You can find froyo firmware here: http://www.samfirmware.com/
Direct link to firmwares (choose one of the 2.2.1) http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139050
Your odin should look something like this

With pda, phone and csc file + pit
This should work =/ strange if it doesn't
Thanks a lot bro. You are a savior. Phone works.

Dear sir, I have the same (almost) problem. I followed your instructions but problem is still there. My phone works fine but when I turn it off and then start it up, it keeps boot looping and after some time (last time took 10 minutes but sometime takes hours) and then turns on just fine. On boot menu (3e) or CWM, I can never access internal sdcard, says is not prepared.
E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:cant mount SDCARD

[Q] Android System Recovery <3e> problem

GT i1900M
I was trying to update to CyanogenMod 10.2.
The phone was purchased in Canada and flashed and installed Froyo 2.2 soon after purchase some years ago. Which was fine until now.
I was following the instructions in How Manually Update Your Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
I transferred the CyanogenMod and Google Apps packages to a directory on my phones SD card called 'Download'.
I also installed from the PlayStore [BOOT] recovery tools - Flasher
I switched off the phone and booted into recovery mode. As there wasn't an option to perform a backup of the current OS, I didn't.
I then successfully did a 'wipe/data factory reset' and a 'wipe cache partition' after which I did a 'apply sdcard:update.zip and got the following message.
Installation aborted
--Insall from sdcard...
E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I'm still in the Android system recovery <3e> window with two options available, namely reboot system now or Format interal sd-card.
If I reboot the system now will I be able to install the CyanogenMod some other way?

it's not work. many apps are not install. can I upgrade my handset?? How I do??

When I try to flash a custom ROM I always end up with this, and the device only boots to TWRP Recovery

What could be the cause?

Xiaomi protect their device from custom rom or custom recovery and some time device go to hardbrick and stock on fastboot mode
So every time you want to install a custom rom after successful to install(dirty flash better) the rom first go beck to twrp menu and format system and dalvik cache then go to install>install image>select twrp img file>install
Then go to reboot>reboot to recovery
Then reboot to system
I don't have your device. But that list of files/folders with random letters means your internal storage/data partition is encrypted. You need to go to "repair filesystem" menu in twrp and reformat it to another type and back to ext4. Or use "format Data" menu. All your data will be wiped.
Don't take my word for it. Google "how to decrypt device in TWRP" and learn about it.
Ps: @moh4556 your answer is correct but it's not format system and dalvik, it's wipe system/dalvik/data menu. It will delete those partitions but for data it leaves /data/media (your internal sdcard) alone. It's sometimes not enough when moving from stock to custom rom.
Hope this helps
weird, i was pretty sure i replied to this thread
strange characters in roms mean you havent formatted data most of the time. once you answer yes you lose your entire data (and locking mechanisms which scrambles names) altogether
for the most part, installing roms follow the same steps
format (not wipe) data
wipe system, vendor, dalv and cache
flash stuff
wipe dalv and cache again

not entirely true. it is highly recd to install the vbmeta patch for redmi8. im lucky and havent required it.
newer miui does make it a pain to install custom recovs directly, hence the 3.6 update included an advanced install option
older miuis arent that protected and only require a reboot to recov after installing the custom recov
also a bit offtop but whatev
