The e-mail app on the Droid Mini/Ultra/Maxx is way better than the one that comes on the X for Verizon. I tried restoring it with Titanium but no luck. It just hangs at restoring. How can I get that app onto my new X?

What's the difference? I assumed they were all the same.
Maybe you need to clear cache and data.

No... not even close.... Just to name a few:
1) Droid Mini version has black theme (easier on eyes AND battery for amoled)
2) Supports conversation view... how does ours NOT?
3) Supports HTML, more sync settings, etc.
It has always been difficult moving email apps on devices. Looking for someone to help!
Try deleting the original and put the new one in system/app manually while in recovery mode. If your rooted of course

I also have the droid maxx, love that email. I've been playing with this for a while. The maxx email actually uses motoemail and motoemailsetup apks. I have a developers edition and have tried installing, pushed them into the system/app folder (changed permissions) and have also tried renaming them. Never got it working. Would love to see it working.

This is an updated (and short) version of my guide for rooting and/or unbricking your DROID 3. This method works on Motorola phones running Android OS 2.3.4 or earlier. If you have a version of MotoBlur/Android on your DROID 3 that isn't compatible with this version, you can use the unbrick method to return your DROID 3 to MotoBlur 5.6.890 Verizon OTA first.
All instructions and downloads are linked from my website at:
www.psouza4.com/DROID3
UPDATE 9/1/2011 1.03: completely re-written, includes one-click root and unroot for practically all Motorola Gingerbread devices, /system/app fix & restore, and ADB temp root. DROID 3 fixes work for build 5.5.959 (stock) and 5.6.890 (late August OTA update).
UPDATE 9/8/2011 1.05: lots of logic testing for fixing bad root attempts/root carry-over's for DROID X, DROID 2 Global, and other devices. Some messages were made clearer, and unrooting is now open to other devices (/system/app restore optional).
UPDATE 7/8/2012 1.08: new links for the system restore features
UPDATE 6/14/2013 1.09: guide re-written, files re-uploaded, everything should be working again (I removed /system/app restore feature since it wasn't reliable and now unnecessary with unbrick/restore methods)
Thanks! That was dead easy and i'm happy that i still have root after rebooting a couple of times.
I assume that if i do a factory wipe, I will have to use this root method again, right?

No, you will lose superuser.apk which can be re-installed from the market as it is wiped when the /data partition is formatted, but su and busybox are installed in /system/xbin and will not be removed during a factory reset, so it will survive a factory reset (but you will just need to reinstall superuser).
oki doki.... i saw another thread on unrooting the phone and if i have to exchange it, i'll experiment there

Well I guess all you would need is the apk and side load it. I use dolphin chrome was great at first but little things bother me like the double tap zoom in sucks. And the last update made it run like ****. I like my bookmarks being synced but then again it really isn't that big of a deal.
Can someone get the apk up? Not having extended controls is horrible. Is there another browser that has edge swiping to control browser?

What do you mean "set the permissions correctly"? I'm not modifying the permissions with anything, and it sets its own permissions upon installation.
I installed again and cleared data, brought up the signing into google screen then it crashes. Can't seem to get it to stay opened.

Could I get a little instruction here?
I've downloaded the above Browser.apk. I've tried installing it from the downloads folder. Fails. Tried pasting it into /data/app, can't install. Pasting into /system/app, can't install. Tried root app installer. It installs and initially loads with the "signing into gmail" popup. Then crashes and crashes every subsequent launch immediately.
I'm dying to get this browser on the phone. Pleeeeeaaaase, can I have some installation instructions?

Hi i unlocked the bootloader and as you know the apk's just disappear. I want to get the ones for 3.62.401.1 if it is possible. I did do the factory reseet option to no avail. I am S-OFF so i can relock the bootloader and factory reset?
Of course id rather have the apk's as that would be far easier than the other method. But unfortunately you can't get everything :/

Check attachments for the apk's lost. These are lost because they are in data/preload on the stock HTC ROM so when the data partition gets wiped after a bootloader unlock, those apps go bye bye :good:
The stock Rom does not include a stand alone app. Here is a working apk. You have to copy it to /system/app in twrp.

Typically, system apps can't install by conventional methods (although there are a few exceptions, Google Maps being one of them). You have to use a file manager to push the file to /system/app as listed above, and be sure to set the permissions. The permissions should match the rest of the apks in the folder.
If you don't know how to get the permissions to match the other files, then check the permissions of another apk that does match, and use the same layout.

I also wonder if this is a symptom of the Unlocking process. I just got my M8 yesterday and have not Unlocked it yet and I have a Calculator App. All I've done is set it up and restore a HTC backup from my old EVO LTE. It even restored my homescreen to exactly how it was on my old phone, including widgets, which was convenient. Calculator is sitting right there on my homescreen where it usually is, and it works.
that's odd, I had the calculator before and after unlocking and rooting........
