So my brand new 24 hour old Xperia Z1 will not start and only goes to a blank screen with the backlight on. It does show the SONY splash screen before this for a second.
The only way to shut it down is to do an up volume and on button combo or to hit the red reset button.
I've tried starting with the SIM and SD Card out but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
The phone has pretty much not been used at all so I am a bit shocked. Is there any thing I can try? It was working last night.
24 hours out of the box, just send it back for a new one.
even if its starts working again, for a £600 device I would just send it back and say you are not happy and want a new one

I went off and left it for about 10 minutes and it did finally restart. I suppose there is some sort of software conflict issue going on.
I did a factory wipe and it runs like lightning now. No idea which app is causing the conflict.

This is one of the fastest phones on the market and this shouldn't be happening. After I did my restore I set up again and synched and auto-updated apps and I had the same problem. I then tried deleting all of my uploaded apps one by one until they were all gone but this didn't help and the boot times were still about 5 minutes, often with the phone booting without remembering the brightness setting or even not booting at all.
So I did a factory reset again but this time did not account synch on setup or auto update apps and that seems to have fixed it for me. The phone is very fast and boots in under 30 seconds now, and runs without any lag whatsoever. I wish I could identify specifically what the issue is but so far no luck.

hey guys, I don't know what's going on with my S7 but yesterday was working fine and out of nowhere everything started to FC! From twitter to "Google Services Framwork", Gmail, browser, tweetdeck, calendar, voice, I can't pretty much use it anymore, I haven't done any new app installations so i don't know what's wrong! is it just me, or anyone else having this problem??
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks
That has happened to me 4 or 5 times. It's like half of the device gets erased but the apps are there. Everything force closes. I end up having to erase the device and re-install everything. Reboot into recovery if you can't figure it out and format the system and data. For some reason when i do that, i keep root. Not entirely sure how that happens, but one less step for me. I think root is power and one of the volume buttons.

ha! i remember I already did that. After the Update we had, and I exchanged mine for a new one I decided to stay with no root (i don't know why! lol) so I guess I'll reset everything and go back to root I figured at the end I was gonna do that, but I was trying to see if it was just me or there was a fix
thanks man!
ok, so since yesterday I've been trying to factory reset the DS, and when it boots back on, everything stays the same!
I'm a little confused now, if I take a picture and I turn the tablet off, when I turn it back on, the picture disappears. Same thing happens if I move widgets, delete or create new ones on the screen, they go back to as the configuration was on friday night! GV not working, and the last message that shows there, same thing, shows the last one on friday. I don't know what can I do.... should I call dell??
duck tape and dynomite
stupid thing started crashing yesterday FC this and FC that ....cant restore it as i no longer have write access to the internal sd card
1) tried nv flash
2) tried restoring from clockwork
3) tried pushing files through adb
4) tried fastboot ....
if i didnt just dump money into this thing id blow it up ......
any help would be appreciated.......any tips to fix it or kill it completely so i can get another one
actually deleted all of the files on internal sd card and uninstalled every program on the device looked completly stock ....rebooted it and it went back to how it was yesterday ......theres gotta be a reason why other are having the same problem that started on the same day .....maybe dell pushed an OTA update and screwed us ......just a thought cause mine was fine till i went 4g yesterday so my sis could post facebook pics ....not sure but hope we can figure this out
Samething happened to me
Hi, did you ever find a solution? my streak 7 was ran out of battery, before it shut off, the screen started flickering and then it turned off. after it came back on, it looked like it was fine, everything looked normal, but then everything started force closing, haven't found a solution

I'm running stock, and I discovered the hard way that you can't let the S7 battery run all the way down. The S7 will not power itself down in time. I had the same issue, and the only way around it was to do a complete factory reset, using the menu button from the main screen. I think the reset is in the "About" section, but I don't have my S7 with me now.
Being used to WM6, which powers the device down at 5%, I was not expecting the device to do this, but there it is.
dell streak 7
im not sure if I am the only one with this issue you but becareful with the streak 7 mine well both of mine wont charge properly and the newest one wont charge at all. i have to send it back to dell for them to fix it. Im not sure what cause this but my only advie is to never use a different charger for it only dell chargers. Im guessing that it messes up the battery callibration and then it gets really hot when charging
Hey guys,
I could need a bit of help! It's now the third time I'm having this problem, don't ask me why. I've got the feeling that I read the whole forum here, but didn't find anything similiar.
The 1st time I didn't change anything (ok, rooted it, but nothing else)
The 2nd time I overclocked it slightly (~850-900 MHz)
Now I'm using MIUI.
But back to the problem:
I'm unable to use the keyboard, every time I'm sliding open the keyboard (even when it's turned off), it "crashes". The screen stops working or it freezes, the only way to turn it off is taking out the battery.
However, the bigger problem comes now: I'm barely able to restart it. It tries booting, but is restarting all the time or the screen is just turning on (in some angles you see that it is turned on but it's black). After many retries, it starts working, sometimes the bootloop is running 15min or i have to manually restart it 10 times or more. The strange thing is that the keyboard works fine, nevertheless I have to choose between using it opened (taking it with me becomes difficult ) or closed...
...the main problem now is flashing a new Rom, I'm currently trying it through the android sdk and adb, but using the power-button + x is easier
I don't think that I can solve the problem, I sent the device two times back (warranty till may 2012), but maybe someone here knows a bit more. My guess is that one of the sensors is broken, or some parts of the display that should manage the sliding process...
Anyway, thanks for your attention!

However, now I'm not even able to boot it, the screen just flashes and turns off itself before trying to restart a few moments later....guess I lost my Milestone

the computer isn't finding it anymore...I'll back up the data and try use my warranty... I hope that they don't complain about MIUI...
But I'm still not getting the point, why my mobile had these issues three times, although they "repaired" it twice...and nobody else is having the same problem
today is third day of using z1 but i haven't restarted or shutdown the phone ever since its first reboot after firmware update.
just a while ago my z1 was acting up, slow and buggy and stuff so i thought i might need to restart the phone because z1 has no memory clean up features like samsung phones do. (let me know if there is )
so i went ahead and turned the device off, waited about 5 seconds then turned it back on. Sony logo was up for about 2 seconds then screen goes to black but only back light is on. I waited thinking it is part of booting process but it took way too long.
i did hard reset by pressing power+vol up and turned it on again, problem still exists, only back light was on.
i had to do hard reset the phone for 6 freakin times, worrying about having to send this phone out to sony service center for weeks or wait for bell to stock their inventory which has no ETA i think, then it finally boot into colorful wave screen. that was the longest 5 minutes i experienced this year for sure!
i turn it back off and on thrice more to see if it happens again but it boot up just fine without no glitch. (colorful wavy screen kicks in right after sony logo)
anyways did anyone experienced the same thing? it looks like it's sort of software related problem, existed since Xperia Z, I can't believe sony didn't implemented fix for this [email protected] for Z1.
FYI my Z1 is from Bell(c6906), SN starts with BH900

Try doing a wipe then repair with PC companion. If that doesn't work, take it back and get it replaced. I've have my Z1 for about 3 weeks now and haven't had any issues.
It's probably a defect unit. I'd take it back as soon as possible.
I just wanted to let you know that with xposed gearbox you can add a kill app button like on Samsung phones .
The kill app button will be in the recent section . Really handy.

hopefully not.. even if it's defect i won't be able to replace it right away because the place i bought the phone from has no more z1 in stock.. plus i can't show them what happened because it's working just fine now.

what's xposed gearbox? is it a MOD?
Actually Android is pretty good at handling background processes on its own. Regularly killing Apps will just make your phone feel slower because it has to reload Apps instead of directly opening them out of the RAM.
I think you just experienced a software hiccup, if it is not happening again I would not worry about it too much.
Is power + Vol up the same function as the red reset button under the sim card cover?
I had the same problem after I had changed a setting - optimised backlight. When I changed the setting back the problem went away. The setting seems to have been removed on 257

I have a Verizon, stock, unrooted Moto X. Today while updating several apps in the Play Store my phone all of a sudden flashes a black screen, followed by a split second of the boot animation (one of the animated globe scenes) then went black. Pressing and holding the power button force resets my phone, which goes through the entire boot animation, then the Verizon logo, then an unresponsive black screen. I've done the 3-button reboot and then told it to reboot normally, but with the same result. Eventually after about 6 or more failed bootup attempts, it'll finally boot up all the way. I don't remember which app was in the process of updating when this happened, but it did happen twice today. I've got 8+ gigs of free space available on internal storage. Has anyone had this happen before? Any idea what could cause it or what I should do about it? I'm afraid it might keep happening more frequently or my phone might just up and die . Had it since November.

If a factory reset does not fix the issue, all I can suggest is find the thread "Return to Stock" and follow the instructions to flash the entire stock SBF for your carrier. This should fix any corrupted files, if present. Either option WILL erase everything, so backup anything you need first.
Good Luck
Maybe your battery stats are off? Were you low at the time? Sure sounds like the power just died?

Nope, phone had been off the charger only a few hours, still had 85% or so. I actually tried plugging the phone in while it was booting up to see if an extra jolt of juice would somehow help it to fully boot up... made no difference. After 6-8 failed boot attempts, it finally booted up and has been running fine since... although I have yet to try to manually reboot it.
Well, if it acts up anymore...I'd consider a full wipe and return to stock. Same android version you're on now of course.
Otherwise...probably a fluke. ?
My X2 Pro has been a great buy up until this morning when I went to look at my phone and it was off having been on during the night,
I pressed the power button and the Realme logo was flashing for around five minutes,
(The logo might stay steady for a few seconds then go back to flashing),
It eventually got to the password screen. Not the SIM password screen which would usually come first on a proper boot up,the phone would not accept my password but luckily I was able to power off the device from here and it rebooted normally,
Bit scary though this behaviour,I'm on the EU model running RUI .24 update unrooted,
Thinking of doing a hard reset but wondering what could cause this ?
maybe the battery is bad, was it low when it happened
does it work now?
