you need to use an app to move the content to Ext SD card first, try FolderMount

you must flash the correct version of the kernel, if you are using Jelly Bean 4.3, than you should flash that kernel., if not look for same version as your current ROM.

I am following this link in order to install cyanogen mod
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
Questions I have relating to section
Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy S
>Number 5 states
On the computer, open a terminal and run the following command from the Heimdall directory:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --no-reboot
Do I just copy paste that into CMD?
Installing CyanogenMod from recovery
>I`m guessing I should avoid nightly builds.
http://get.cm/?device=galaxysmtd
Would this be the version best for me? cm-10.1.3-galaxysmtd.zip (158.17mb)

Place the CyanogenMod rom .zip file on the root of the SD card using adb:
Is that the removable SD card you buy separately… or simple the internal memory named as SDcard. I`m asking just to DOUBLE check.
Also I have no idea how to use adb, how should I proceed in order to perform the request task?
