Hello XDA
I've had my first Android phone 10 months ago. Now I have broken apps (Google Play and Google+) and I want to try alternate firmwares but most importantly I first want to have a safe backup, as I cannot afford bricking it.
About the phone:
I have a x29i (LT29i) that I got shipped from Hong Kong in January 2013 (dx.com/s/168057)
I understand this is an unbranded/generic Sony Xperia XT / LT29i
I have succesfully rooted the phone using 'Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31'
I can also connect to the phone using 'Xperia flashing tool Version 0.9.11.0" (Bin4ry Androxyde).
I did NOT manage to install CWM, it appears not to be supported.
Also, instructions I found refer to the Sony Companion software, which I tried but did not have success with. I don't know if/how this phone differs from the real Sony phones.
I don't know if my bootloader is unlocked. Probably not, I did not unlock it myself.
Hardware: MT6577 rev:65fb8a00
Model number: LT29i
Android version: 4.1.1 (however the 'easter egg' in "About phone" pops-up with 'Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich'!)
Baseband evrsion: MAUI.11AMD.W12.22.SP.V5.P1 .. 2012
Kernel Version: 3.0.13 [email protected] .. SMP PREEMPT ... 2012
I've found lots of information/instructions for the real Sony phones but I'm not sure if it all applies to that unbranded phone... and if I can safely use these files and instructions I find here and there...
If someone knows and is kind enough to tell me I'll appreciate.
Does anyone know of instructions I could follow to backup/restore this particular phone?
I guess the question boils down to: 'how to install CWM on the HongKong x29i (LT29i) phone' ?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Da.

Since your phone not same as true LT29i, your phone is Star Xperia TX
You cannot process same as CWM for LT29i
Just search into another web, for MTK device
=)
Thanks Yenkazu!
That is the hint I needed! Now I understand I should use MTK tools. So I will continue with this link I found:

Thanks again.

Hi guys, need your expert advise to understand something that's new to me....
Well been in this forum for quite some time ..(Back from HTC Diamond days...then HTC Desire, HTC Sensation etc..)
Flash numerous ROMs in all of those HTC devices.
Now, I've bought a second hand GS3 i9305 Titanium Grey for quite a good deal ! After buying I figured it doesn't have 'Software Update' inside 'About' Menu. So, by digging what I believe is, this devices has been rooted and 'may be' a different un-official rom had been flashed. Even the 'Samsung Kies' software tells that this firmware is not supported to auto update and..bla bla...
So, I had to find a way to go stock everything (ROM, MODEM, BOOTLOADER etc.) and start Fresh about rooting and stuff. But unlike HTC devices it's kinda ambiguous to me! So far I figured I want to:
1. Backup my IMEI (I've understood how to do so)
2. Find the exact official firmware.
After countless searching and reading (may be I'm dumb! ) I've reached this page:
HTML:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
... but completely lost as to which firmware version I should download. For Convenience please find below my device's information:
Model Number: GT-I9305
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: I9305BVALI5
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 - 142435
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT sun Sep 9 02:08:20 KST 2012
Build Number: JRO033C.I9305XXALI5
If you guys help me to find out the correct stock firmware and also give me link(s) to definitive guide(s) would help me a lot! (I've read some Odin flash guides though, from I9300 thread. I believe the same guide is also applicable for I9305?)
Thanks for your time reading this, and advanced thanks for your Answers!

Here's a link to some firmware and in it is a link to find out what you're after. Although I don't think it particularly matters which region and stuff cause it's all official samsung stuff: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9305
As for flashing there's a million guides out there so I suggest you google it or go through here and find a thread about flashing back to stock for the i9305.
:good:
.. Thanks I Guess! ..
Hey there,
I've just bought an Xperia T, Orange PL branded and I wanted to update it to 4.1.2, since it's running 4.0.4 at the moment. Unfortunately, PC Companion nor the phone itself says my phone is up to date
Does anyone know how to fix it? I've heard 4.1.2 is officialy out in here, so...
Flash a 4.1.2 ftf file found in the all in one thread (first sticky thread in the q and a section)
Use flashtool to flash it.
Sent from my star trek communicator
Sony Flagship device circa 2145
Try the Sony Update Service.
Hey there, thanks for your replies.
I've tried SEUS with not luck.
About the .ftf file, I found 2 FTFs with 4.1.2 in their names, but one is russian and one is for TX. It's probably something with firmware, but I'd rather ask, than flash something that may brick my phone. Would you be so kind and show me the right FTF, pretty please?

ok, no problem.
goto settings/aboutphone
Scroll down and tell me what the bottom 5 things say
also, what region are you in now?
If you can goto system/build.prop
and tell me wht the 8 digit customisation number is. It will look something like this
ro.customisation.number=****-****
The 8 numbers that are the *'s will help
Thank you very much for your help

I can't really find this ro.customisation.number. I'll look again and post it here when I find them.
EDIT: Okay, so I found it with *#*#7378423#*#*
Customization Version: 1268-3164_R14F
If you are on xperia T you can try this one by me
Xperia T 9.1.A.0.489
LT30p_9.1.A.0.489_Vodafone.ftf - 592.28 MB
Its branded but you can remove the bloatware if you root.
Just exclude baseband when you flash it in flashtool

Whenever I try rooting my Sony Xperia SO using DoomLord's rooting tutorial it tells me my device is not available to be rooted (comes up on the command prompt). Running Android 4.1.2 (build number: 12.0.A.2.245) (Model number: C5303, UK model), even though on his tutorial it says it is. Any idea how to fix it?

Yeah you flash 257 first download the RIGHT root toolkit (v18) root it and then flash 245 to get you up to date.
All this assuming that you have already all the drivers needed for the rooting to take place.
Hi there,
may be there are already the right answers around hidden in some threads,
I am pretty unsure if the described ways will work with locked boot-loader
and keep all functions of the phone up and running.
Sorry, if I ask stupid questions, I am a noob regarding android phones and the
tricks to get su on the phone.
My firmware is:
Build-Number 9.1.A.1.140
Kernel-Version: 3.4.0-1731-g5b052b2-00811-g8c0b35e
[email protected]) )

Baseband-Version
8960A-AAAAANAZQ-3003032-47
Android-Version
4.1.2
Xperia V - Germany
Is there a way to backup everything (whole firmware) first, before starting experimenting?
I don't care about losing custom settings / user data, but I want to make sure I can revert
everything to original settings, if something wents wrong. (I have made a reset / fw-update with SUS)
I read some of the threads, but hesitate to flash the firmware, because there were issues
reported with not working WLAN, battery problems etc. after flashing, so I want to make sure,
the result will be just the same as it is now, but with root privileges....
I am also not really aware of the differences between Singapore / Nordic / German
stock rom's and what implicaions they may have regarding support of the different LTE / GSM etc. protocols....
Also unlocking / relocking of the bootloader is not an big issue, I think, I would prefer
to not mess around with it, if not absolutely necessary or easier to get the desired result.
Thank you very much for giving me some directions / how-to's to get just root on my phone.
:fingers-crossed:
i think you need this: root many android

Root with the link given in the past above.. Then install CWM for locked bootloaders.. Then do a backup, and you're on the safe side

worked like a charm! The only issue was to find and install a working adb-driver for my win7(x64).

What is the right CWM for the Xperia V 9.1.A.1.140?
Hallo again,
sorry for my stupid questions, you point me to the CWM for locked bootloaders and I would like to install it on my xperia V,
however there are many different threads regarding this, and I do not find yet the right one for my phone / software version.
Which one would do the trick?
Code:
My firmware is:

Thank you for the great work and for your hints.
I understand what you mean. For the seniors here many things are clear as glass, but for a noob the many versions of an app such as CWM is totally confusing. And very hard to find anyway. Contact me and I will send you the CWM Recovery that I am using for my V. It works 100 % safe and stabil like a Merkel. A really essential part of Android, IMO, and one of the very first things to do.
