Data management system plugin - Nexus 7 General

Hi all. New to Nexus 7 here, and pretty much a newbie to Android.
I'm a journalist and to post content on pur website we use our own data management system in-house. I'm trying to post from home and I can access the server but where I actually type the content - it's greyed put and says I need a plugin. Any ideas? I'll ask our IT department tomorrow but not sure they'll like me BYODing.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Does it say what kind of plugin do you need? Also, try out different browsers like Chrome, AOSP, Firefox, etc.

Hey! Nope works on no browsers and just displays the standard 'a plugin is needed to display this content'

It's most likely flash which is not supported by android since 4.1
Try Boat Browser (supports flash) and/or installing a flash apk (you can find it here on xda).

Chrome doesn't support flash. Personally I use dolphin. There's others too. But you need to install flash....as said above. Of you're on 4.3....good luck....flash never worked well or at all for me on 4.3. So I'm back on 4.2.2.
Sent from my cellular telephone

Try Firefox Beta, and sideload the flash apk you can find somewhere around here. (It's version 11.7 I think). Then press the plugin part of the page, that launches Flash. That will probably do it. Otherwise, sounds like you need some proprietary corporate plugin/ActiveX from your company I'd guess, in which case you're likely SOL...check with IT.
I'm running on 4.3 btw and have no issues with Flash/Firefox.

Hulu on android?[now working]

thanks to helpful members evilspawn and h8rift and the origonal developer of the modified libflashplayer.so
i believe this is also covered in another related thread as well. im not a dev at all and im trying to learn this stuff. i will try to put this in an update script later with a browser.apk that has user agent option added to the settings that i found. if it works and i post it i will credit the dev of the modded browser and the dev of the libflashplayer.so file but i cant remember their names at the moment. now we need to beg our devs to cook this into some roms!

To the people who see /data/data as *blank*....make sure to do this in adb after setting Desktop user agent, extracting the .zip, and wiping FlashPlayer data via Titanium Backup...
Then browse to hulu.com, look up a show, and have at it!

this isn't my work (found it on another forum), but it worked on my rooted droid x!!!
Complete instructions (requires ROOT):
1) Set your browsers to use "Desktop" user agent; xScope has a setting for this in its settings page; for the standard browser you must type about:debug followed by the enter key in the URL bar, then go into setting and you should have the option to change it near the bottom of the settings screen.
2)Start with the current (v10.1.105.6) flashplayer installed from the market, use Titanium backup to wipe it's data, but leave it installed (back up first if you like)
3) Downlaod and extract liblibflashplayer.so from this zip (libflashplayer.so.fix.10.1.105.6.zip) onto your sdcard (..if link doesn't work, get it from the source link below these instructions)
4) Copy libflashplayer.so from sdcard to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
(..if you have problems make sure the permissions for libflashplayer.so are rwxr-xr-x )
5) Browse to hulu.com and enjoy!
(based on xda thread / post: xda - android flash hex edited to look like windows )
NOTE:
Info / download on a hulu application launcher is here: [Fix] Hulu working + Flash.apk September 24 - Page 14 - xda-developers
All this app does is give you a hulu icon in your app tray that opens an embeded hulu web page from Hulu Player Widget
It will work (portrait only) when the flash fix described above is implemented; The app still has issues with full screen, lock screen, and sometimes has to be killed manaully as it doesn't exit properly (.. all are known bugs).

Actually hulu doesn't own the license to make copyrighted content available to portable devices. Blame the studios, not hulu. The premium pay service that will be available is to offset the licensing fees they will be paying to the studios.

^As much as that doesn't make sense thank you for clearing that up. I don't mean you didn't make sense I just mean the laws don't make sense.
Copy right laws are stupid. The browser is html, so why should it be classified as mobile. As far as I'm concerned this is a computer that makes phone calls. I guess its only fear of the lawyers that makes them block android browsers. it seems like it only take more work and trouble and limits the user base by charging people.
I'm not against them charging, if its consistent, its just you can get a lot of it for free on tv and you can get it free on the internet, it doesn't make sense to make a distinction between one flash and html capable device and another based on arbitrary specs and fcc classification, what's the difference to the studio if I watch hulu on a net book over 3g our if I watch I on my phone or tablet over wifi? I didn't pay a studio when I bought my pc, I don't pay studio fees when I use my pc, why do I have to pay them when I use my phone to do the same thing?. It should be illegal to make these laws, infact I'd bet it could be easily beaten in a court, just no one will put up the legal fees to challenge the studios who would just find another way to make life miserable. Some times I hate what this country is becoming.
Ok that'd enough ranting from me for tonight.

does changing the settings make hulu work.
I could be wrong but...
Hulu uses Silverlight rather than standard flash. My understanding is that our current Android situation prevents us from having support for Silverlight and it will be some time before we do. It is something you can be sure WP7 will have due to Microsoft's connection but we will just have to wait.

Flash 10.1 is not available for eclair, froyo is required. I personally have not tested froyo + dolphin + hulu, but in any scenario, froyo is needed.
There is information in the following thread about using the stock froyo browser and changing the user agent to get hulu to work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819930 (I have not tried this either).

Problem is that even if you get past the "your using android ..." Screen it doesn't recognize the flash player. Even though it is flash player 10.1 hulu says you don't have the flash plug in.
yes I have flash 10.1 installed, and yes I have it enabled. Rather than checking if the version is greater than the minimum version they must have a way to block the flash player build for android.

I have been trying to get hulu to work as well, tried all the different browswer tricks for each browser on the market and none work..
You can try surfing anonymously that way the server doesn't recognize you're on a mobile device. Try something like anonymouse.org
Hulu disabled the ability for folks to be able to use their service on mobile devices awhile ago.
I thought it was due to the fact that the mobile carriers were freaking out over the potential bandwidth jump in their networks?
Either way - your going to have to find some type of proxy that truly tricks Hulu into thinking your browsing from your desktop. I think it is doing some pretty hardcore checks now (OS, Browser, Flash Version etc..) and then it will let you watch.
Don't blame Hulu... blame the carriers that whined about it.

Opera browser for tablets

A browser designed specifically for larger touch screens could indeed make a difference. Currently, browsers with touch interfaces work pretty much the same on mobile phones as they do on tablets.
http://www.techspot.com/news/41807-opera-previews-browser-for-tablets.html
Can any one post akp file?
The Opera browser for tablets hasn't been released yet. It's only been talked about, and shown in a very short youtube video.
It's suppose to be out soon:
http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2011/01/03/
There was a beta awhile ago, but it didn't support Flash integration.
Firefox also has a beta, but, at least when I tried it, it didn't support Flash yet.
Jim
I like better and cooler just as much as the next guy, but what can you really do different?
The same improvements for panning and zooming should be valuable for phones,so why not just improve those functions for the base app?
I know it's an old thread and you probably may not view this, but I just installed Opera Mobile 11 from opera's website. Nice clean and simple. Also has Flash support.
I was even able to use the quick search feature of this forum via a browser for the first time!!! (without having to go into advanced search).

Adding G-Tablet to devices on the new Market site.

OK, I'm frustrated.
I have been trying to add my gtab to my devices on the new Market site, and have so far been unable to do so. Actually, that is not exactly true. I can get it to show up partially.
I have a Droid phone, and I see the phone when I go to my Market Account, Settings, My Devices. I enter the new nickname for my tablet.. [tablet, gtablet, Viewsonic G-Tablet, Malata ... all tried separately], I check the "show in menus" option. Press the Update button on the right. And nothing happens. The Maker, Model, Carrier columns for the tablet are empty, with only a hyphen. I cannot enter information directly into these columns, and whenever I try to download something, only the phone shows up. When I click on the little black triangle to expand the devices, I DO see the GTablet there. But it is grayed out with a question mark beside it. It says it is not compatible with this device. Every single app is not compatible with my tablet?
What am I missing?

Something like that but I thought oh they even know I am running the VEGAn ROM. Interesting indeed.
i'm runing vega5.1 and i had to do nothing... he just appeared..
but yesterday i had to do the market fix again and it disappeared.. LOL

Maybe it is just the simple fact that this tablet is not supposed to be on the market at all. So calling Google to ask why your tablet with the hacked market doesn't work probably won't get you very far.
What is the big deal with this web market anyway? I have no problem using the market app on the tablet.

+1 I just use the market on the tablet.... My device(for now) is showing in web market.
My G-Tab running Vegan 5.1 is working in the new market with no changes or modifications except editing the nickname. I installed an app to it via the new market already. Since I have a Droid also, I kinda like the ability to install on either or both devices. YMMV, apparently...
Nvidia VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1
My tablet showed up under the web-based market as: "Nvidia VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 ". I added a nickname and downloaded some applications. Since I wasn't connected to the internet at the time it was held in abeyance. Once I got a wifi connection, boom down they came. So I can now peruse the market at work or as I monitor these forums, find an application, purchase it (or not) while I am still thinking about it and have it update the tablet the next time it connects. Not bad functionality for someone like me whose work environment is wifi restricted.
I still have one issue I would like to see Google fix. I purchased a application under one gmail account but after reflashing from tnt-lite to Vegan Tab I put my other account on the device first. Now I can't update that application without some tricky effort. Not sure I want to go through that effort or pay the $5 again
While that was me being stupid, I proposed to Google that I could envision the case where I might want to purchase an application with my work credit card and put that on their tablet and also purchase an application with my personal credit card. Their current schema doesn't allow for that. I can see where with telephones it might be a little more personal but tablets may start becoming shared devices say within a family.
What they seem to have for that situation is the ability to use more than one CC with the account. In that case you could use your work CC for some and personal for others.
Not a help for your situation, but it does address the situation you proposed.

I'm getting the same showing up in my market access, but where we differ, is I have yet to have an application actually download to my tablet. I've gone through 5-6 different apps that did show the G-Tablet as a compatible device, and these were not installed on my tablet before going to the web market...
The big difference now is I am seeing lots more apps using the legacy Market app on the tablet.
I figured the first week or so would be pounding the web market, and things seem to be settling down, if just a small bit.

I think that they are not trying to give us a hard time as much as they are just trying to have some sort of way to keep things manageable. I mean, they set certain guidelines that devices need to follow to get market access so hopefully most of the apps will work. GPS, and cell type data connection are a couple requirements. Why? I don't know. Guess they had to start somewhere.
I think it is also done so developers can build apps that hopefully work for the types of devices that do qualify. Imagine how hard it would be to make apps that worked on every variation of Android out there. How often do we have issues with apps that don't work on one rom, but work on a different rom.
Maybe it was just to try and keep the market from being like the wild wild west...
Apple has it pretty easy. There are only a couple of hardware platforms they need to worry about. How about Android? There are probably a 1000 different hardware variants out there.
I really won't be surprised if they come up with a way to keep all non qualified devices off the market. Not that big of a deal really if they do though.
So far my tablet is showing on the new market and allows me to download apps to it. I'm running vegan tab 5.1 if that helps anyone...

You are probably right, i tend to lean towards everything being based on how these companies can make the most money. Like if what i said is true, maybe then google gets a bigger kick back from the carriers, or phone manufacterers. Its ATT 's fault really, lmao, since everything they do is based on getting more money from me as a subscriber. it seems loke they try to make evry feature, an extra charge, without lowering the standard monthly fees. (i know i am most likely wrong, it just seems this way to me). I am not askin for free stuff, it just seems like they keep the services i want out of my pockets' reach.

[Q] Anyone have good luck using Firefox mobile?

Just curious. I've tried it on several different ROMs. Now that I'm on Slim 3.4 ICS, it seems to be responsive enough (was way too slow on the stock Froyo/GB!).
But unless I manually kill the FF process, it constantly uses 4-5% CPU, even after 'closing' the browser.
I'm not sure if this issue is specific to the Captivate, but if it wasn't I would think Mozilla would have fixed it a long time ago...
It worked fine for me when I was using it, but I preferred Chrome Beta. I can't use Chrome now since I went back to a Gingerbread ROM, but Chrome is what I would use.

I'm still using Dolphin Mini.
using Chrome Beta on aokp. the tabs design is very well.
Yeah, I've tried quite a few different phone browsers.
I use Firefox on PC (tried switching to Chrome a few times, but always end up back with FF), and it seems like using FF mobile is just about the only way to get my bookmarks synced between PC and Android. I haven't tried the Dolphin HD plugin yet that's supposed to sync with FF, but the market reviews don't look to great for it.
I was really hoping I could get Google Bookmarks to sync with any of the Android browsers, since there is a desktop FF plugin that works reasonably well... But syncing Google Bookmarks with any phone browser seems to be impossible at this point. From what I've read, it worked OK up until Google changed something with the interface a few months back. I guess there's not really an API for it.
for your FF proces problem running at 4-5%, try downloading ES Task Manager from the market, give it root privs in the settings then removing firefox from your startup. then all you have to do is click optimiza and it will kill all the non system processes for you. just a little tip
I'm using Opera Mobile 12. It has turbo setting while not on WiFi to minimize network traffic. Fast and compatible with sites and Flash. Not sure about bookmark sync, may be it's there. I think it's fastest and most reliable.

Browser with homepage?

I need a good browser to use with my Fire that allows me to set the homepage (5.1.1, running Nexus ROM). Lightning+ cannot open tabs from apps right now due to a problem with the coding (not exclusive to the Fire), otherwise I'd be using that or Chrome (which doesn't have homeage). Your suggestions?
Edit: To clarify, I don't need to be able to choose my homepage. I just don't want to always restore my browser session every time I open the program.

I have a bias toward Opera and Opera Mini (depending on need/preference). Same underlying engine as Chrome which yields consistent rendering. Opera Mini has integrated page compression and ad-blocking which is attractive to some. Both offer the option option of customizing the home screen with 'speed dials' of your choosing. Privacy is of no personal concern aside for exercising safe behaviors (independent of browser) and avoiding apps that intentionally mine/leak personal information. That said I think much of the banter surrounding Dolphin (which I have also used; nice browser with some quirks) is pure FUD.

I've never heard anything regarding privacy with dolphin. It has ads and such, but root and adaway eliminate those. If you're really concerned with privacy on android, don't use android!
