Just thought it was a good idea to open a thread with "issues" to be solved or things we want to get working on the Gear. I myself have a thing of two that I want to solve. For this I searched through some threads, saw some people mention the problems but never found a solution (although apparently other people were working on it to).
Because I like to be part of the solution but don't want to reinvent the wheel I thought it is maybe a good idea to sum some things up that need a solution in one thread.
Basic thing that I'm looking for and not sure if it is solved is
enable/disable BT tethering with just one tap (so to speak). Ideally automagically when opening an app that needs an internet connection
(If the problem isn't solved I was thinking to write an app for this)
(Reserved : list with open issues )
Id love someone to be able to rewrite the newest gear manager to work with people not on 4.3.
Or someone to get the things not working on 4.2 like weAther etc.
A native sms app that syncs with the phone properly. or get tablet talk to display names.

Very easy with Tasker & Bluetooth Auto Connect.
Iv set up so if my device is locked & the screen is off for 30 seconds, it will disable bluetooth tethering for battery reasons. Iv also setup so if I slide two fingers up on my Novalauncher homescreen it will enable bluetooth tethering. Alternatively you can also enable a launcher shortcut which will execute the task.
You can also setup so bluetooth tethering will automatically be activated when launching certain applications.
If you need further instructions, dont hesitate. Tasker can be a little intimidating at first if this is your first time using it.
I'd quite like to be able to swipe away notifications, both individually and per app. Currently it's a bit of a hassle..!

I've never used tasker before. Maybe worthwhile to dive into it.
Also played with Bluetooth Auto Connect. I used it to maintain a connection. (But concluded very quickly that that will drain the battery of the Gear like hell LoL). Where do you use Bluetooth Auto Connect for in this scenario? I mean,if I understand you correctly everything can be done with Tasker.

Bluetooth auto connect works as a plugin for tasker also, so you can incorporate bluetooth auto connect functions in your tasks.
You must get tasker, its a device changer.. both phone & gear.

fOmey do i only need tasker on the phone in order to do that? The way i am manually doing it is i first enable tether on the phone ands then dive into the full settings on the Gear.
If the phone stops tethering then the Gear option automatically gets unticked, but it does not work the other way around.
I have tasked installed on both phone and gear. Could you please provide some instructions?
Also, have you checked Atooma? I have it both on the S4 and the Gear and i can do stuff on the phone with three triggers from the watch:
1) Horizontal movement
2) Vertical movement
3) Photo taken
Does tasker integrate with the watch the way Atooma does?
Thanx again for everything you have done.
YOU ARE THE MAN!
I'd like to be able to scroll down and see a playlist and pick a song

Functionality improvement - (we just need a piece of software for that) - to display on the GEAR atmospheric pressure, humidity, temperature - all of those sensors are in NOTE3
I am in no way attempting to take credit for this program or any profiles created unless my name is annotated next to a published link. Support these guys buy buying their app(s) as this is a tremendous backend for amazing automation for today and the future.
In an effort to help everyone new to Tasker (and its associated apps like AutoRemote) and its capabilities, I'm starting this thread to list profiles that people are actively using on their gear.
What is Tasker?
Tasker is an application for Android which performs tasks (sets of actions) based on contexts (application, time, date, location, event, gesture) in user-defined profiles or in clickable or timer home screen widgets.
What are some of the things I can use these apps for?
While the number of uses for Tasker is limitless and only supressed by your imagination, here is a list of published tasker profiles that people have created for common yet out of the box thinking type usage: Tasker Profiles
Here are only some of the things you could do with Tasker, it's real power is the flexibility to combine contexts and tasks however you wish.
passcode-lock sensitive applications (e.g. for child safety)
change phone settings by
*application: long screen timeout in a book reader
*time: screen brightness lower in the evening
*location: ringer volume high at the office, turn off ke yguard at home
wake up with a random song from your music collection
Text-to-speech; read out loud: incoming SMS/ phone number, WiFi/Bluetooth status, when it's time for an appointment, when the battery is low etc etc (Android OS 1.6+ only)
launch a music application when your music SD card is inserted, otherwise a file browser
start the day with a particular application showing
change all your home icons and wallpaper every day, or in particular locations
turn the phone upside down to return to the home screen, tilt 90 degrees to the left and back to toggle speakerphone during a call
create a Home widget to
*toggle bluetooth/wifi on/off
*launch wireless settings dialog
*show a menu of tasks to choose
*send an emergency SMS with your GPS location
remap camera etc buttons to other applications, or show a menu of applications and/or actions
zip/unzip application data on the fly when an application is launched/exits
pause music playback while in a particular application, restart on exit
change the Home icon for any application
take a time-lapse photo series (possibly 'secretly')
make a regular backup of a file on the SD card
track your phone location via SMS in case of theft
extend the use of the media button on your headset: take a picture from a distance or go to the previous media track with a long press
record call times and destinations to the SD card
show a popup when an SMS arrives from a particular phone number
setup a birthday SMS to be sent months before it happens so you don't forget
record battery levels over time to a file on SD card
make automatic recordings of what you say during phone calls to SD card
during the night, turn on airplane mode to conserve battery/reduce radiation, but turn it off every 15 minutes to check for SMS/voicemail.
setup a vacation SMS message, with different messages for different callers
launch a music application when headphones are connected

Recommended companion app: AutoRemote
What we really need is an update to Tasker to allow exporting...
I would love if this thread develops and thank you for starting it...i am trying to learn how to use tasker to get weather widgets to read weather from stock weather widget.....F0mey said you needed SQlite which i have and tasker...but im lost from there
It has taken me the better part of 4 days to get mine set up for voice automation. I know I've barely gotten started but I can now give a voice command to the gear and have it open Pandora and adjust the volumes on the phone. Then pause Pandora and readjust the volumes with another command. Think entering and exiting your car. Having this core structure in place, I think as I move to a full home automation plan, I will be able to integrate it with no problems.
Tasker, Autovoice, and Autoremote are all required. When I get a little more time, I'll try to decompress all that I learned over these 4 days to create a tutorial.
In the meantime, if you search autovoice and autoremote on Youtube, you can find some great assistance. Armando Ferreira has some great tutorials that really helped me get to where I am (and pushing me to where I want to be).
I was hoping someone can help me with what I am trying to do. First I'll explain what I want and then show screen shots of what I tried. So basically I want my weather info to be set for UCCW widgets and it seems u need tasked and sqlite to do so. And no null has sqlite support so I'll show u what I've done.
I know I'm probably totally off but can anyone tell me if I'm close or help

Do you have to have an internet connection on you Gear for the initial Autoremote setup? I really just need the bluetooth connection to my phone to send intents to trigger tasks from there. I've googled the crap out of it but keep coming to the same posts. Thanks!

Nice thread, everyone can take use of the Tasker Power!
And thanks for the prop
When I double tap Nova, I use AutoVoice recognised Profile on Gear to send an autoremote message to the phone.
When the phone receives the message, it opens my Spotify playlist, and starts playing,
It also uses intents within Spotify to open the now playing window

Any of you tasker experts know how trigger an event on an incoming call on the Gear? I've tried Event --> phone ringing, and it doesn't seem to trigger anything when I get a call. I was thinking maybe there's a way to do it with Intent Received, but I don't know which intent...
I wanted the gear to play a ringtone once when I receive a call (while the gear is set to 'vibrate')
I can achieve this using Autoremote. The phone ringing event works on the phone itself, so I had Autoremote send a message "RING" to the gear, and the gear received this and played the ringtone... it wasn't really a good way to do it, and wasted battery because I had to keep the Autoremote bluetooth listener on.

I just tried dailer ... didn't work Doesn't see like there are any other apps on the tasker app list that would apply to incoming calls. That's why i was thinking there was an intent or something else that could be monitored.
I have a simple one for alerting of Whatsapp messages (got sick of watch constantly alerting on group messages). Essentially it triggers a notification, then hides it
Make sure Tasker is set to send notificiations in Gear Manager
Make sure Tasker is turned on in Accessibility services
Profile: Notification Whatsapp
Cooldown: 5mins
Event: Notification
Owner Application: WhatsApp
Task: WhatsApp Message
1. Notify
Title: Whatsapp
Text: Message Received
Icon: [Can be anything, as doesn't show up anywhere]
2. Wait
Seconds: 5
3. Notify Cancel
Title: whatsApp
Further ideas:
- Display content (requires sqlite3)
- Only display for group chats
- Repeat alerts

I'm not an experienced programmer. Or in that way inclined but would I'd like to develop or would want helping. An app that would activate the google now voice search from a pebble application.
1. Activate pebble and access the OK pebble now app.
2. Would activate the google now voice search on your phone.
2.5 speak your request through your headset (if wearing a headset) (hands free).
3. Speak your request through the microphone through your phone.
4. Does the request in your pocket. Shows task complete on the pebble.
5. Show message sent to recipient.
Thanks in advance. if an experienced pebble developer decided to take on the project. i'm willing to pay them £10 through paypal once the job is finished. all i want to see is the project complete.
Vibrate on task complete.
I tried my hand at the application and couldn't do it.
UI is very simplistic.
I've just found an application that has functionality like what I'm asking for. Its called tasker and it works in conjunction with pebble tasker. So commands and apps can be open from the watch and to be opened up on the phone itself without even touching your phone. But its so long winded.
There's so many more options that you can do with the tasker/pebbletasker but I just want a google now voice search launcher.
No with the pebble receiving an update that allows you to have shortcuts to the apps that you assign them buttons too. This is a perfect opportunity to have a google now voice search launcher or a siri launcher so it covers both platforms.
Don't forget, I am willing to pay someone that will develop this idea. I will be creating images that I would like the UI to be.

Did you ever get any traction on this? I just got my first pebble and this is the first thing I went looking for. I downloaded tasker and bought pebble tasker but I seem to lack the patience to figure out how to make that work. I agree that a shortcut would be perfect so I could operate google now in my pocket. All I use it for is to set reminders and save voice to text notes in evernote but it's a pain in the rear to get myphone out every time. I tried an app that listens for okgoogle even while the screen is off, but it triggered intermittently for no reason and other times would refuse to work at all. This would be the ideal solution. Count me in for $20.

Sadly, no. I can't develop anything but film. But I'll put $20 in for the developer who puts it together.
There is someone who created a nice dashboard app that lets me find my phone if lost, control wifi, lock the screen, and a number of other things. I think I'll email that developer and see if they can just add that. I really want this and I want it to work. And with the new Pebble coming out soon I think I'll be picking one of those up as well so I'm committed to the platform. This is the one thing I feel I'm missing.
Not really what you are after, but I very easily set up a Tasker task to wake up my phone (but keep it locked) so I could give it "OK Google" commands. This way I can send texts or navigate home without taking my phone out. Pebble Tasker makes it only a click away.

I did this as well, but now, every time I launch PebbleTasker on my phone, Voice Search begins opening repeatedly and I can't even get to it to try to add additional tasks. Have you run into this? It wasn't until I went to add somethign else to the PebbleTasker that I ran into this. Since then I've deleted the task from PebbleTasker and it still does it. Very odd. Any ideas?
I didn't do mine this way because your phone needs to be awake for the Voice Search app to open. However, I just set it up to see if I had the same issue as you, and I didn't. Everything worried as it should. I don't know why it isn't working for you.
My task is just to wake up my phone, then I give my "OK Google" voice command.

OK. I'm setup a little different. I installed the Xposed mod which lets me do this without a task to wake the phone. I simply set a task to launch VoiceSearch, and when I press the button on pebble tasker, the app launches without even lighting up the screen.
Here's the link to it. forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-secure-google-search-t2606688
I think there's something else going on here though. It was working fine Sunday. I'm having general issues with Google now it seems. Reminders aren't getting set to notes and instead are getting sent to alarms. Even if I say "remind me to get cheese the next time I'm at walmart", it tries to set an alarm then it stops because it's waiting for me to set a time. I installed Keep thinking that might fix it...no joy. I cleared the cache and all data, uninstalled google app and the launcher, restarted to clear the cache partition, rebooted in safe mode, went back to regular mode and still get the same problems. Kind of stumped right now. I can't delete older cards and if I go directly into reminders and try to push the plus sign button to add a reminder, it correctly identifies my words and they go on the screen and it just stops there. it's not locked up or anything. It just won't go any further. So something is really wrong with google. just dont' have a clue what it could be at the moment.
Yeah, it sounds like like the Pebble task is the least of your worries. I read here that someone else was having a similar reminders issue. I have no idea if he is rooted or not, so I don't know if it is Xposed related. Good luck.

The plot thickens. I have a Nexus 7 mounted on my refrigerator basically for Google now and the way I can just say "make a note" and it will save a note in evernote for me. It's stock and with the latest auto update is running 4.4.4. A power cord is connected perpetually. I haven't touched the thing physically in MONTHS. But apparently in the last 3-4 days it has developed the same problem with reminders not working. It gets stuck just like my phone does when I'm manually trying to make a reminder. It's like the entire reminder function was removed and my phone just grabbed onto alarms as a last resort rather than not do anything at all. I've googled it and haven't found anyone else with the issue (or they haven't noticed yet). but to have it on two different devices at the same time - one of which I haven't even touched indicates that there's a conflict with an update and probably a common app between the two devices.......now to figure out what it might be.......

As far as I know, a lot of voice-initiated command will become available with Pebble-core's connection to Alexa
Currently, the pebble is also capable of doing such with 'snowy' commands. See mydogsnowy.com
I have no stake in that product whatsoever, and in fact I struggling a bit with its voice-recognition ... I'm dutch, so perhaps my english is not adequate for the recognition. So... your mileage may vary, but from what I've tested and seen described it's really promising

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get an idea of how everyone uses tasker or how they want tasker to work for them. Let me know in a comment everything that you have tasker setup to do right now. Also, what tasks do you want but are unsure of how to create a profile for them?
How would I...get my phone to tell me the weather whenever I open my closet? I let the weather determine what I wear and usually I check the weather on my phone right before getting dressed. Would be nice to automate that!
I'm using Tasker for:
-auto-rotate the screen when I launch some apps
-switch off when I'm connected to specific Wi-Fis
-auto-sync my Google account every 2 hours (without night tome)
-auto-sync Google and weather information 30 minutes before my alarm in the morning
I made a tutorial how to do the last one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277729

After looking into it quite a bit, I cannot find any way that a task could be triggered by opening your closet door. I don't know how to go about making this work that would be more efficient than just using Google Now.

I figured it out, Greenway. All I need is a SmartThings open/close sensor to monitor when I open my closet door. It uses magnets to do this. Then, I can have Tasker "listen" for the notification that my closet door has opened, and then it will tell me the weather. Heck yah!

This also can be done using a Z-wave door sensor + a Vera hub and the AutoVera plug-in for Tasker. AutoVera can monitor all your Z-wave devices in real time to trigger a Tasker task.
In this example, The tasker profile would be:
if the closet door status change from "closed" to "open" (AutoVera) between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m.,
And it would launch the task to say aloud the weather on your phone. Already explained how to get and use weather data in this post
I guess your SmartThings setup is working pretty much the same way

Off the top of my head, I would suggest NFC tags, they are cheep, and you could stick one on your closet door. I believe tasker has an auto NFC function now that will let you create a task based on a NFC scan.
I could be mistaken though.
I do know that you can get the "auto barcode" pluggin which will allow you to automate a task from a barcode scan - just stick a barcode on the door and scan it in the morning!
I'm actually working on creating a personal assistant app that could give you these kind of contextual updates - it pretty easy now with api.ai pluggins.

I didn't see your reply before I posted - yes that would be the ideal solution.
My basic tasks are
- silent when between midnight and 8am, if charger plugged in;
- silent during meetings
- launch Radardroid if connected to car BT
- send an automated Whatsapp saying "I'm driving, can't read messages, call me", if I am connected to my car BT and receive a message (using Whatstasker plugin). Yes I have teenage girls...
I have also automated a series of tasks for when I go out mountain-biking on my own:
scan NFC tag (using Trigger)
start Strava
send a Glympse by SMS to my wife, so she can find me if I do myself some serious damage in the middle of nowhere (using Autoinput to simulate keypresses since there are no intents to actually send the Glympse)
And the reverse when I get back:
scan a different NFC tag using Trigger
stop Strava
stop Glympse (using Autoinput again, as above)
send a Whatsapp to the missus, saying I'm home (using Whatstasker).

Do you take the data from calendar? If yes which one?
Thank you

Yes, from the Profile page, hit the plus sign, then state, and in the filter area start to write calendar. click on calendar entry, and the 5th entry is "calendar".
Hit the search icon, and you can then choose the calendar from the calendars you currently have.
I use it for:
* Rotate screen for certain apps
*Play music when connected to certain Blutooth devices
* Change volume when connected to certain wifi connections.
I'd like to learn how to use it with AutoAlarm to configure my Lifx light.
I've been trying to find a way to automate the voice recording app via nfc... has anyone seen this done?

how did u create this task . . . ."send an automated Whatsapp saying "I'm driving, can't read messages, call me", if I am connected to my car BT and receive a message (using Whatstasker plugin)"???
I would like , How I can use tasker with-in my Android phone using either my K9 mail client of the gmail apps .
First to check mail every certain mins , once a key word is search ( i.e. from my boss's email ) , takser use my Android phone's build-in SMS client to send myself an SMS.
Thank you very much.
Is it possible, that tasker would lower the priority of ongoing notifications on a condition (e.g. location), so that notification will run, but hides from lockscreen and showing only, if phone is unlocked (and rise after location change)?
i want to use tasker for spying...all activities sms, calls, open applications, locations, call recordings etc forwarded to me on my number/cloud etc with no traces there in their mobile. is it possible with no traces?
Auto reset Mobile Data Cycle on fresh purchase of data.
I know that Android automatically updates the data cycle every thirty one days.
However my carrier only allows a 28 day monthly data plan. Moreover if I do run out of data before that, the system does not account for it. This causes problems for my data cap management unless I manually reset it myself.
Now I think I have one half of it down. After each data plan purchase the carrier sends an sms conformation. I've set up a profile that is triggered when it reads the first half of the confirmation message from the carrier. I cannot however, find the necessary action to reset the data cycle.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you for putting up this thread.
taking pictures by fingerprint? this would be awesome
Diceware
I want to run a Diceware password generator from within Tasker. This could read from a Google Sheet, or from an internal file, or could have all the words stored in Tasker. I'm not exactly sure how to build it in Tasker. I can make a Google Sheet that will use a pseudo-random number generator to choose the values that will be used to select the words from the Diceware list.
Any ideas?
My dream would be picking up the phone from say desk unlocks the screen.
As far as I know it's a no go. Shame...
So I just discovered the magical world of tasker, and am loving it! Totally worth the money, and one of the best apps to have (the best if you know how to maximise its use)! I have been experimenting a bit with it, so I don't have many profiles. I'm sure many folks here will be using tasker and would be having some great profiles, so I'm looking forward to hearing some suggestions! The profiles I use are:
1. WiFi off at night, from 00:45 to 08:00, except WhatsApp, Play Store, Quora
2. Airplane mode at night, from 00:30 to 07:00
3. Use of interactive CPU governor when using Real Racing 3, and revert to lionfish governor after exiting app(Kernel adiutor profiles do this for me). I also added a condition to use auto-rotate when playing the game, and revert to portrait orientation after closing the app.
4. Auto-sync every two hours, from 08:00 to 20:00 (I would like to improve this to auto-sync only Gmail, would welcome suggestions on how to do this from any tasker experts out here )
I would love to implement more profiles and automate my phone, so looking for ideas.
Need a tasker profile which can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps.it means If I start those apps then my mobile data would automatically disabled and when I close them Data service should be enbled. If u can help on this then That wud be very helpfull
Nothing very fancy for me - right now just have it turning on my wifi hotspot when it detects my car's bluetooth connection so my stereo can use the internet.
It sounds like you are taking it pretty far, @varunadi. You should check out https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker for more cool ideas.

I'm still finding my way around tasker, reading a lot of tutorials so once I figure it out I'll let you know.

I don't know if you can disable mobile data entirely (not just background which Android can do already) for just certain apps.
Perhaps it would be easier to use something like Netguard.
I've never used it but the description says "Applications can individually be allowed or denied access to your Wi-Fi and/or mobile connection."

Can't the secure settings plugin be used for that purpose? Toggle data on/off I mean.

I was actually going to suggest that as I have it installed already but when I tried it didn't work.
The "Mobile data" toggle was unavailable because it claims I don't have root. However, I'm definitely rooted and there's no listing (saying denied or otherwise) in SuperSU for Secure Settings so it didn't even ask for root. I'm not too surprised as SS hasn't been updated in over a year and a lot of the Play Store comments mention mobile data toggle specifically not working either (among other things). Too bad as it was pretty powerful and of course I think I paid for it right after its last update.
Not getting SS working for me might just be my problem and perhaps someone else can get it going.
I was also going to suggest [APP][2.2+][ROOT] Toggle Data 5.0 (xda-exclusive free version) but then I read more about what @anks095 said which was "can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps" so I'm guessing he just wants certain apps restricted and not all (although the next sentence seems to say otherwise but I might be reading it incorrectly). I'm not too sure that can be done via Tasker/SS - my guess is that it's an "all-or-nothing" kinda thing for mobile data so the VPN thing might be the only way.
I use a similiar app called automagic but some of the things that I got my tasker like program to do are: lockscreen enable/disable through wi-fi at trusted places (don't like geofencing due to battery), when connected to the bluetooth of my car. Auto silent 5 min before a meeting, but if not connected to my smartwatch then vibrate. And lastly sms emergency location request where my family can send a keyword and my phone will automatically send location.

How is the lockscreen one working for you? I find the built-in SmartLock to be really unreliable but when I tried to do lockscreen stuff before (last year) there was some bug in either Tasker or Secure Settings that would sometimes keep your screen black with just the nav buttons visible present. I'll have to re-try now.
That sms emergency request thing sounds cool! Can the recipient open the location in Maps to see exactly where you are?
Without issues I set it so that it clears the password. Makes it so that I have to swipe to unlock. As for the location, yes it sends coordinates and the user in the other end taps it to bring up Google maps.

Thank you very much - clearing the password was the key! I had been trying before to disable the keyguard entirely so I wouldn't even have to swipe but that's where the problem/bug came in. Thinking about it that makes more sense to have at least a swipe because I'd end up calling people from my pocket by mistake. So thanks again!
Tasker...hmmm. Bought it, but much to complicated for me. Macrodroid is much easier to understand and can also do complicated automation with a normal user friendly interface. I tried to like Tasker, but the more and more I tried the more stupid I felt.
