While I wait... - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I'm currently waiting on my One to come back from repair and of course the 4.3 update was released the day after I shipped it So I while I wait, I wanted to get your impressions of the update. Likes, dislikes, new features, missing features, bugs anything you think about the update!!
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

You can probably get that info from reading all 10 of the 4.3 threads
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app

I'm running it on stock, blazing fast just like before and noticeably better battery life

To me it fixed an important part of the phone which was bluetooth streaming. The quality on the highs was miserable, now it's great. I even ordered a pair of jaybird bluebuds x since I was so pleased with the 4.3's update quality. Other than that, the dreaded menu button is gone thanks to a nifty and frankly superior implementation of the menu and google now button. Now you long press home for menu, and that is good since you can go back into the app if you mispress. Unlike the back button. Great smoothness, overall improvement. Also, the purple tint has been reduced.
And finally, Bluetooth low energy was activated on the 4.3 update I believe, or 4.2. The thing is that allows for use of the pebble, for example and other exercise peripherals with minimal battery drain. Look up the changes in android per se, since the changes HTC made are minimal. I for once think most if not all of the flaws are gone by now. Now I don't care about future updates, and may avoid them to be honest, since I'm not looking forward to anything else.

I have noticed improved battery life. Plus you just get that good feeling on being on the latest android out! (besides 4.3.1)

I don't even really count 4.3.1 it seems like its mostly bugfixes for nexus devices. Hopefully bugs that HTC ironed out in their 4.3 release lol.

I would personally say it sounds good. Definitely comparable to auxiliary output on my audyssey bluetooth speakers. I was impressed, which is why I ordered the jaybirds which are pretty expensive. I'm sure there will be differences in audio quality but it's just convenient for streaming without messy cables. This was streaming v0 rips and some flacs.

I'll have to second this Woot! This phone is pretty sweet for sure...
I have to echo those 2 previous woots. in really digging this phone. Coming from an Evo3D is a huge jump. While in not seeing a HUGE difference in performance (I do notice that there is one, though) I'm blown away by the size, weight, build, screen, the Sense TV app.. Etc,etc, etc
also, battery life compared to the evo3D is a nice bump! I was worried!

Well... coming from the original EVO (almost 3 years). It will always have a place in my heart but so far, I'm really digging it. I'll root at some point but right now my only issue is the bloat. Screen, sound and camera is off the chart! And those posts about buzzing and popping sounds from the speaker, not an issue for me. No gaps around the edges either.

Upgrade time - How's the CM experience?

Upgrade just came up and I was considering getting the One. Loved CM10 on my Epic Touch 4G and was curious what the experience was like on this device. The button configuration seems odd on this phone so I wanted to get people's thoughts. Also, is the camera as bad as some say?
Thanks in advance.

But the HTC one is riddled with QC issues and doesn't really improve much over the last Gen of phones. The next Gen has snapdragon 800, 3000 mAh batteries and whatnot. Plus, the 800s are really close. Like the G2 is already here.
The One isn't that good IMHO. The camera is overhyped really and the number of defects people are reporting make this phone worth skipping.
To stay on track with your question the CM experience is something I don't think someone in their right mind would recomend. Hell it has a tendency to burn up some phones and need replaced.

I agree if your sole decision is CM. Then wait. Cm was better on my gs3 than on here. It's pretty buggy and as has been said there are many reports of people's phones bricking cause of cm. To the quality control issue... I have had none, this phone has been great in that regard... But maybe I'm just lucky . In all honesty, overall this is the best phone I've ever owned. I don't think you'd go wrong with this phone.

My $0.02:
For the short while I was able to use CM, I wasn't exactly blown away. It was exactly the same as my GS2, but with better specs. There were no extra features or anything. It looked nice with Black Infinitum, but again, not really different from my old phone. There were some bugs, so...
And you do have to watch out for the max freq lock, which will burn up your phone as it sits.
EDIT: However, CM Nemesis is coming soon. I would still wait for for a new device with better specs, but hey, this is a fairly new device.

I really haven't had any issues since 10.1
Sent from my One using XDA Premium HD app
I used it for a week while on vacation and while it was nice to see a less bloated One with all the additional customization .. there were several issues and features that made me go back.
The biggest was GPS lock - I could not get a steady lock and if I did the radius was quite large, throwing me all over the map.
The phone actually seemed less responsive overall - including a slight delay when turning on the phone.
Missed the htc car app - google car and the ones from the market are not the same
and the IR - now it has only come in handy once, when my remote died; however, the remote can be fun at the bar
The HTCOne is a unique phone, the button layout is strange and is my biggest headache. Contrary to most posts above I like the CM experience on it better then sense, but this is my first (and only ever!) sense phone. I much prefer the AOSP experience. CM is lacking in a few places but core functionality is there and works good enough for me for daily use, for the record I'm on 10.2 20130819
Truthfully though I think I would wait for a new nexus device. I love the feel of the One in my hand but it's nothing amazing hardware wise.

Also, does the wake still take like a second? That was also a problem with 10.1.

Read through all the posts in General and you'll get your information. Like I tell everyone, buy the phone because you want it, not because someone else sold it to you.
The storage is just enough for me. It would be nice to have a sd card slot though. Battery life lasts 12 hours for me on a regular day. Matters how much you use it of course. The main thing that sold me on the phone was Sense.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
Have it and don't recommend. I'd wait for the next nexus. I've been disappointed with the camera on the One. 2nd One with camera issues, purple and/or red tint. Otherwise solid phone.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Pros: great screen, front speakers are awesome, nice build, fast, great front camera, good size, great reception, awesome in red, I like the notification LED
Cons: back camera sucks compared most other phones (pictures are pixelated), battery life could be better but it's manageable, charges really slow
Noted: You quickly adapt to the lack of a menu button, takes great pics in the dark, Sense is probably the best skin available, the TV app is really useful.
Verdict: Not bad for a "phone", I think i would have personally liked the S4 better. My 14 year old daughter has one too and loves it.I'll be getting the Note 3 once its affordable and selling this one.
Have one, don't recommend. HTC refuses to pay attention to details such as build quality. It refuses to fix the purple tint issue. The camera is overrated. The battery life is only decent. You can't get S-off on certain hboots.
Wait for the Nexus 5. It looks freaking sweet.

Wait it out bro. This phone is 5 months old and hasn't smelled an update. You have to worry about pink camera issue, the build quality gamble, and who knows if 32gb is enough for you. Wait it out instead of jumping so quickly
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
I, personally, love mine. No camera issue, fast as hell, and we haven't seen an update to 4.2.2 because HTC is jumping right to 4.3 within the next couple weeks.
I've not had a better smart phone experience and I owned a RAZR HD and a galaxy s iii
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I love my HTC One. Like everyone else said, the battery could be better but I'm running complete stock so maybe a custom ROM would help the battery. As for the camera issue, HTC said that they would fix it with the 4.3 update so I wouldn't worry about that. The only thing is that this phone is I think five months old so if you really want a HTC phone, then go for it. I would take this over the S4 and the next Nexus mainly because of HTC Sense. And the specs are as good as the competitors so it all comes down to preference of UI and features. My One has never frozen on me and I've had it for two months. Great phone and would definitely recommend it. Let us know what you decide!
EDIT: Sorry I got off track and forgot to answer your questions. The battery lasts me about 10-11 hours but that's on stock. The storage is more than enough to have for another two years. And like I said, my One has never frozen on me so no need for a battery pull. And I'm sure that HTC made the charging of the phone take longer to conserve the overall life of the battery but mine charges pretty fast. It's not slow but it's not super fast either.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium
This phone uses the older generation of Gorilla glass, people from the Taiwan forums are reporting that the 4.3 update doesn't fix the camera tint, and I get around 14 hours battery life with moderate use. This phone is already outdated and you would be a fool to pay $600 for it when there are much better phones just around the corner.

No. The S5 still has Samsung's Touchwiz monstrosity and it still looks a bit cheap. The camera does look amazing, I'll give it that. But after having the Moto X running (mostly) stock Android, I can't imagine going back to a skin like Touchwiz.
Whenever I had an s4 I just hit it with cm, we'll have to see if developers can use the fingerprint hardware

Are you kidding? It's bigger and uglier than the s4, the stock ROM is supposedly 8gb, there's no innovation, the fingerprint scanner is basically unusable with one handed usage, still uses a pentile screen, new touchwiz looks as bad if not worse than the old one etc.

I don't see anything coming out or announced that would make me leave my x this year.
I would be more tempted to check out a new iPhone than anything Samsung is putting out these days. I just can't stand the look of their phones anymore. I had an S3 and the S5 looks pretty much the same in terms of design. same dumb home button, same obnoxious backlit buttons, same clusterfudge of features that do nothing for me and never will.
Its gonna take a really really great phone to get me to throw away my custom made, beautiful piece of technology.

For those coming from the galaxy line.

What made you choose this phone over the Galaxy S5?
Sent from my 831C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've had every Galaxy since the very first one to the GS4 and I wanted to try something different and I am GLAD I did!! Even little things like just holding the phone in your hand it is so well made, and it is FAST!! As far as the camera complaints I DO NOT see what these people are talking about because I think the camera is GREAT!!! Unless you plan on using the camera as a wedding photographer then maybe not, lol. But I highly recommend this phone.

Since the original EVO I have had nothing but the Galaxy line till now. The main thing holding me back from the M7 was the lack of a SD card but the M8 has one so I decided to try it out. First thing I have noticed is the build quality. The M8 feels like a work of art and my S4 (after a few months) was developing bubbles under the glass and the battery case was scratched and worn away in some place. I don't see that happening here but time will tell. The boom sound speakers are also a huge plus. I used to have to cup my hand around the rear speaker on the S4 when showing someone a video. No longer. These speakers sound great and are loud. The camera has also been really fun. I'm not sure what the complaints are all about but the picture quality has been great and dual lens make for some really cool effects. I'm sure down the line there will be some cool camera apps on the market that will even add to the dual lens. The battery life has been great too. Unplug in the morning and plug in at night with plenty of battery life left. I wasn't too impressed with the launcher or Blinkfeed so I just switched to the Google now launcher and it works fine. I'm also looking forward to try out new Roms and the future of development for this phone. As of now I am very happy with the change.

I always thought touchwiz was designed by children. I mean, what company uses those colors and a 'water drop' sound for touch sounds? There are a few features I miss though, like swipe to call/text in contacts and led notification while charging. I'm pretty happy with the m8 though.

Coming from an s3. The s5 was an aesthetic let down, looks like a band-aid. The M8 was a clear choice minutes after their unpacked event.
I had a note 3 which I sold and got the M8. I got a little tired of the huge screen, and could not justify purchasing a smaller version of the same phone. Only thing is I am having a real hard time getting used to the on screen buttons leading to a huge bottom bezel. I am working on getting pie controls and removing the soft keys to see how it works out.
However, having a metal phone is WORLDS better than plastic. I dont use cases on my devices and I just like to pick up the phone to feel it sometimes. Pie controls - soft keys will make this the best phone ever made.

Pretty much this. Had the OG Epic and the GS3. Wanted something different, plus the front speakers and having the charging and headphone jacks on the same end were huge selling points for me. Was leary off the camera, but so far it's great. 4mp is plenty for regular 4x6 prints. Those high mega pixels are really only better if you plan on blowing up pictures to poster size. And I would imagine, that if you were in need of pictures for something like that, you'd want to use an actual camera and not a phone camera of any type....lol
Only complaint I really have are the amount of useless icons in the status bar. What a mess! Hopefully that is something that can be fixed with future software updates. I couldn't care less about the spark icon, and do we really need a constant GPS icon whether it's on or off? Dumb...
