I'm seeing the S4 and note 3 listing HDR video.. yet nobody every mentions how to turn it on..? anyone else know this?
this guy is claimed to be recording with it on!? i know he has an octacore, but still.
where is this button?
Doesn't that stand for high definition recording? *goes and google searches...will edit in a few*
EDIT - I see it stands for high dynamic range. I don't see any options for that on mine. Will let you know if I find it.

Looking for hdr VIDEO. mode is for photo
Is there some official site that says there is HDR video recording? I see no mention of it other than review sites that just use the term and don't elaborate on it.
He probably meant to say 4k video?
Agree, HDR is a term used for photography.

Yes hdr is mainly used in photography, but now you can actually record video in hdr as well, but you need 2 camera mounted side by side to achieve it. I seriously doubt any phone could record hdr video. Heck the hdr photo setting isn't even real hdr.

HDR video can be recorded with use of one camera It just limits fps to 30.
Actually camera used in note3 is able to record 1080p 30fps hdr video. We just need proper software
Isn't there a true hdr camera in the play store? I read an article titled 5 best Android cameras (or something similar) and it listed that camera as a new option. I believed it's called hdr camera.

Wouldn't you need 3 cameras? One with a positive exposure one with a neutral and one with a negative and then hours to process the videos into a single file.

Guess you can do it with just one with the right stuff.

No idea why thats happening to you, but ...
To be honest I don't even bother switching to 1080p, just use 720p most of them,
it's almost as good and most of the time you can't tell the difference on such a small screen

Those of us that are near sighted can see the difference.
720p is roughly 900,000 pixels (1280x720) total and 1080p is a little over 2mil pixels (1920x1080) total. In essence 720p on a 1080p screen will have a blur at every pixel set. I notice it because I am near sighted.

So I got this fancy new phone with 2K resolution so where can I get a video to blow my friends away? YouTube seems to only stream up to 1080p even though several of the videos say 2K.
On the g3 there was an apk floating around that supported 2k video in the YouTube app maybe google or search the forums for that particular YouTube apk. If I'm not mistaken the web version of YouTube allows this as well.

To watch it on 4k TV. Also frame grabs from video are much better quality and you can zoom in, without loss of quality when using phone for watching and actually I use it very often on my Note 3, since with fixed lens framing is always far from perfect and there is always option of not using 4k video at all.

I took these pics with the G4 camera app today. Outdoors and indoors. It focuses really quick, and while it doesn't have manual focus, you can force it to lock on an object close up (my remote) and lock it. Then the background has a nice blur.

Just like a previous member's screenshot: all video is set to 30fps (except slow motion @120fps)
The video is fine otherwise with really good stabilization. I'm keeping my stock camera around to fall back on, but the G4 cam has real promise if someone smarter than myself can unlock a few settings and the elusive Camera2 API.

If you're referring to the "double-twist" to activate the camera, I was wondering the same. It's tied to the OEM camera app, so... renaming the G4 camera app and copying its folder structure over the OEM one? I could try, but doubt it could be that simple.[emoji14]

Just installed in the Moto G camera and I quite like it. I like the option that it gives you to use the old style of taking photos or use the method that practically every other camera app uses.
I managed to get Quick Capture to work. I disabled quick capture in the original camera app and enabled it in the new Moto G camera app. You need to be rooted for the rest to get the twist launch to work. I used an Xposed module called TwistySwitch Beta available in this thread:
[XPOSED] Twisty Switch Experimental Update
and just chose the new Moto G Camera app. It works perfectly and in the same way as the original app.
I am not sure how to get around this working if you are not rooted as this seems to be the only way to work around what is built into the stock software.
Hope this helps.

No OIS on the OP5 and camera quality is only a little better than the 3T. What a disappointment!
You don't need OIS to take great photos. Helps of course. More so in lower light. I will let you know what I think soon.

It doesn't have the Pixels amazing EIS so videos will be affected also. The 6Ps videos were horrible because it didn't have OIS.
Much prefer OIS but The lack of EIS on 4k video recording is a deal breaker for me, no stabilisation is horrible on any video recording.
Do you this this could be added later with a software update.?

OIS or EIS is mainly for video recording without it videos are horrible to watch back, there is NO excuse why EIS is available for 1080p but not 4k video recording.
Until I see the results myself, i.e. tested it in my hands, thats when I'll critique it correctly. Results speak for themselves as they say.

They look OK pics. Better than the 3T but not as good as the flagships today.

Can someone shoot a 4k video while walking for example ? I have an OP3T right now, and the lack of OIS is a real deal breaker for me ... Plus the EIS is not available for 4K videos

Do you have the phone set for WQHD+?
if not, YouTube will not show the higher res options.

Yes I do. Even put "Entertainment mode" and nothing. It's the application itself. Every YouTube video I used to watch on 2k hdr . Now only capped at 1080.

I think it was because majority experiencing dropped frames when watching it. So probably got listed as being incompatible with 1440p+ HDR streams.
Work around would be to use Chrome:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

i at least get 1440p
i at least get 1440p. i don't spend time on the app and didn't know the restriction was removed until i read this...
Ever thought about trying OP YouTube? I've been enjoying it. Only thing I miss from the stock YouTube app is the option to expand the video to fit our display ratio but that's a small thing to miss.

For regular (non HDR) you still have that option. Try finding a HDR video and you are capped at 1080p. 2k/4k options are not available anymore in the app for HDR content.
Ok... I wasted hours on trying to fix this.
By coincidence it started when I started playing with the app resolution in Gamtuner.
I ended up wiping the whole phone - twice.
Second time without restoring any backup.
Downloaded latest APK from Aptoide in the end
Then consulted XDA
Always look up XDA first...
Btw. Search I the app to look only in the Note 8 thread... non existent or can't I just find it?
Looks like this is due to the 1440p 60fps issue with the Note 8. - 1080p 60fps works without dropped frames with Note 8, but Note 8 has been having problems with 1440p 60fps dropping frames. This is my believe why Google (YouTube) stopped supporting 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Google (YouTube) is still supporting 1440p at lower frames per second (30fps), when available, with the Galaxy Note 8.
Hopefully there will be a solution in the near future that Google (YouTube) can support 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Slightly off topic, is it normal for YouTube on mobile device to have some many adverts? I ask because I normally watch YouTube from chrome browser on a PC. Was shocked how the Note 8 YouTube app appears to be bloated with more adverts, some even appear every few minutes while watching a video.

I don't know, since I have YouTube Red with my Play Music subscription.
