Tried nightly 3. Didn't notice any issues at all. The options for carbon seem practically endless.
It's now on nightly 4. He should start a thread to get the word out.

I'm sure Carbon is a good rom but can anyone give an idea of what it can do that the device cannot do on the stock rom with custom launcher and third party apps? Since the Sprint S4 version does not have it's own changelog (at least I didn't see one) not sure what features are working and what doesn't. Also, don't you lose all the air gestures, eye tracking, etc when going to AOSP rom?
I tried nightly 3 and I kept getting setup wizard fc. do I have to flash an aosp kernel or does it come with one.

Yes your going to loose the entire set of unique TW features that come with the S4 - air gestures, smart scroll, etc. A lot of people don't care for those features, me personally, I like to show them off but I don't ever really use them.
A lot of people absolutely despise the TW interface. And yes some of it can be changed with third party apps and mods but not all of it. Some people want the clean AOSP experience, you can easily theme your entire interface (dialer, messaging, unique colors, blah) with themes from the play store without the need for downloading a bunch of third party apps for each individual thing you want to change. Also native DPI changer is included in a lot of AOSP roms. It's really just personal preference. None of the Samsung bloat, Sprint bloat, awful TW colors, just check out roms like AOKP, AOSPA, CM, etc, on other devices.
I recommend checking out Slimbean for our device to get the general gist of what AOSP roms provide you with.

I really liked Slimbean but ended up going back to TW, AOSP is getting there, but I ran into too many bugs that I didn't have to deal with when I was using TW. I miss just being able to switch roms as I please, but my job kind of requires me having a phone that works, all the time, and quickly. Hopefully in the next week or so those issues are fixed because they seem to be on the nightly (or in the process of being fixed on the nightly) (all my problems were with signal and calling. Ex: distorted voice, bars were all over the place and I randomly lost signal in places where I had full bars of 4G with TW)
Just a word of caution if you decide to hop ship from touchwiz.
Besides that, AOSP>Touchwiz because I sure as hell only use the features to show off, i'd much rather have a stock unified UI than having to download apps to achieve that. It's also alot quicker since you don't have the framework of TW and the features weighing it down :good:

I'm familiar with AOSP roms (ran them on many other phones) but was specifically asking about Carbon. Not bagging on AOSP roms just seems like a larger sacrifice with all the newer features of the S4. Granted I do think a lot are gimmicky and don't work that well but do use Smartstay & IR functions.
Just curiosity more than anything.

i thought quick reply for messaging was a CM feature?
I'm wondering if perhaps we can expect to see a system dump from the "Google Edition" release, or perhaps an unofficial release of the STABLE CM 10.1; seeing as how the Sprint variant of the HTC One, received a nightly, as of yesterday.
I'm just hopeful that we'll have a more fully-functional version of Android 4.2.2.

Maybe for messaging, but Notification actions in general:
Expandable, actionable notifications.
Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Just swipe down from the top of the screen to see all your notifications in one place. Late for a meeting or missed a call? Take action in an instant directly from the notifications shade.

Some of these don't apply, and some have been implemented by HTC already, but anyway for reference.

Ya seems to me to be pointless to buy the nexus experience One if you are a current owner and can just flash a "dump"
I just don't know if I can do without Zoe and the IR blaster. I have tortured so many peeps with the IR blaster and the TV/cable box at their houses or hotels it has been priceless!!!

Though I doubt the Google version of the one will have Zoe, I imagine it will use the ir blaster. I don't think they're changing anything physically on the phone so itd be a little odd if they didn't include that functionality.

I never really cared for LS widgets on AOSP. But if you really want, you will be able to delete the HTC lockscreen and use the AOSP one that has the widgets. So it's not like they are completely gone.

That is indeed a very good point. Would be pretty easy to fix up too.
I read the Engadget (or was it Gizmodo) article comparing the two phones and they claimed that Sense camera app took better photos. However, they also said it could just be built-in processing. I don't care much for the built-in filters since I do most of the editing with 3rd party apps. So, I'm wondering whether it's /just/ the processing and not that the Stock app can't take advantage of the bigger pixels. I would flash stock and compare myself but am too lazy to ;P Hoping somebody will. Cheers.

It's roughly the same. AOSP does fine with the 'ultrapixel' camera. They are just talking about the tweaks that HTC put into their camera software. You can do all of this with post processing.

but there is no thread about a working gallery yet...
So you can make Zoe pics and stuff, but can't watch them on the phone without the HTC Gallery. Flashing back to Sense roms, shows all photos and movies made before.
