moto x testing unit upgrade - Moto X Q&A

does anyone have any idea how to update a testing version of moto x to the latest update? every time i check for updates it says there are none available. it is an xt1053 with a kernel from june

If the bootloader is unlocked download one of the other firmware packages then upgrade

^ do you think I could do that in the stock recovery?
and point me in the right direction to download that?

How did you end up with a "testing version" of the software?
Anyways - I imagine that if you flashed the original firmware that you would probably be able to check for an update and receive it. But I could be completely wrong and you could wreck your phone trying (standard disclaimer). This link might help you...

The video tutorial I linked you to gives step by step instructions of how to do what you want to do. They even have a link to the files you mentioned. Did you look at the tutorial?

If it helps the xt1053 is the T-Mobile model. You could try flashing the T-Mobile firmware or unlock the bootloader to flash other versions.

How to downgrade bootloader 4.4.2 > 4.4? I'm at limbo!

Hello folks.
I'm on a bit of a limbo. Can you help me?
Fist of all i should state that i was a former Galaxy S3 owner, so even if I have some experience with the underworld of rooting and flashing, bootloader issues are a bit alien for me.
The problem:
My Brazilian Moto X with unlocked bootloader was on 4.4, and after receiving the OTA update, i thought that i could update it if I removed root and etc (after all i was not using Xposed and ETC, so no deep modifications at /system that i know).
Of course i was wrong, and as greeted with a nice bootloop by my moto X. No problem, I got the 4.4.2 UK and flashed it thought RSD lite. After the flashing, I dit not liked the modifications the UK 4.4.2 retail have (like carrier name on bar, etc etc) and just flashed Philz and recovered my nandroid.
All is nice, but now i can't update to 4.4.2 Brazilian because i can't install 4.4 Retail Brazilian trought RSD lite, since the Moto X just detects that it haves 4.4.2 bootloader and not let me downgrade! I'm in a Limbo \o/
What now? There is any way to downgrade the bootloader? There is any one who have a full Brazilian 4.4.2 image (or a image without carrier name on the bar) for unlocked bootloaders? Any 4.4.2 flashable update using CWM or TWRP?
Oh god, so many questions. Thanks for your atention!

you can't downgrade the bootlaoder sorry
as for the carrier name in the bar someone will make a xposed mod to remove it.
i would either stay with 4.4 if that makes you happy or flash the correct 4.4.2 firmware for your device and tweak it to your liking.
Unfortunately you cannot downgrade the bootloader from 4.4.2 to 4.4.
Is it so dificult to do a 4.4.2 flashable update or we just lack devs?

If you find the factory 4.4.2 image for your device, then you manually flash the 4.4.2 files.

I can only find the UK one. There is no 4.4.2 factory image for Brazilian Moto X, and i really don't want to install Xposed to remove the carrier name from the bar, since i play Square Enix titles.

I'm a dev too. Let's research.
The full image will probably be available in a few days to a week, so you should probably just wait for it since your phone is working.
Boot loaders are number differently that's why everyone who has flash, or just about everyone who has flashed a new firmware has had issue evedn though the firmwares are 4.4.2, morale . Flash only your specific carrier firmware and all this craziness would stop, my 2 cents

It certainly seems Motorola has changed the game with 4.4.2, flashing other carriers firmware at this time seems quite risky. As you said I wouldn't recommend it right now until more is known and all full flash images of 4.4.2 are released.

Someone should start a thread with all info and have it stickied, getting stupid here, miss info, assuming have a unlocked boot loader will prevent hard bricks.

OP's issue was that he wanted to downgrade to 4.2 -- not that he was trying to change the carrier version of the 4.4.2 bootloader. Are there any threads about someone having an issue trying to flash a different carrier's version of 4.4.2?

Threads no but multiple threads about issues, stay away from flashing another carriers 4.4.2 firmware at this point in time, I'm trying to get boot loader numbers for all carrier firmware , so far all north american and south american boot loaders are the same but T-Mobile and AT&T have yet to be released, European boot loaders are not yet posted

The xt1055 doesn't have 4.4.4 yet. You can install stock 4.4.2 - just find the thread in general titled 'return to 100% stock'. Everything you need is there.

Do you think the 4.4.4 update is going to be released soon?
also, if i return to 100% stock, will i be able to install the new update normally ? i mean without downloading it to the pc, etc
Thank you very much!!

It will probably be released soon but I have no way of knowing.
Yes, if you flash to stock 4.4.2, you can take the ota normally with no PC. That is assuming you don't flash custom recovery or modify /system. If you do, you cannot take the ota normally. You must flash stock recovery back first and undo any significant changes to /system. That means no Xposed, etc.
If you want further details, search XDA for how to take an ota update.

I said that's assuming you 'don't' (not didn't) do those things -- you will receive the OTA as normal AFTER following the instructions in the return to stock thread to return to 100% stock.
Once you "return to stock" you will be 100% stock - any past changes won't matter.
IF **AFTER** you follow the return to stock guide to return to full stock 4.4.2, you flash TWRP and/or modify files in /system, you can't take the OTA until you un-do all of those changes.
Understand? Nothing you did or have done previously matters. All that matters is what you do AFTER you return to stock...

I don't know exactly what ROM is on a Brasilian XT1058.
On you phone, go App Drawer -> Settings... Make note of what is listed under System Version, Android Version, and build number.
That is what to look for when you are searching for the Stock SBF for your phone. The file name will usually contain parts or all of that info, and possibly the carrier name, or acronym for the carrier name (Verizon might be VZW, Rogers Canada might be RCI, etc)
This is important because if you have a locked bootloader, you can't for example flash an XT1058 from AT&T USA (locked bootloader), with the SBF for an XT1058 from Rogers Canada.

Right, you have an XT1058 from Rogers Canada... Notice the RCI in the system version (which I also mentioned in my post as a possible acronym)
No offense, but your posts come across as if you are not willing to do anything but ask "tell me how to do this".
I would have a different attitude if you showed me that you took the time to read and try to understand what has been posted.
For example, I KNOW the correct XT1058 RCI CA 4.4.4 SBF is out there on the file factory link, and it has XT1058, RCI CA, 4.4.4 and that system number in its name! but YOU have to take the time to look, IT IS YOUR PHONE.
But no, its been "do it for me."
I have a life. Helping people on these forums is a HOBBY, not a job. I don't have the time to spoon feed each individual. That is why there are guides written (which I gave you links to).
If you can't figure this out, maybe you should play it safe and skip trying to flash your phone. And if you haven't factory reset your phone yet, try that as a first step.
sorry!

It took me all of 15 seconds to use the link in my signature to the thread with SBF ROM sites, then click the FileFactory site, and find a listing for XT1058_RCI-CA_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_59_cid14_CFC_1FF.xml.zip

Download the correct firmware from here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/dd05c058d3ff8dbe/?sort=created&order=DESC&show=100&page=1
Here you have the XT1058 AT&T 4.4.4 version for example: http://www.filefactory.com/file/48ofsvh148j7/ATT_XT1058_4.4.4-KXA21.12-L1.26_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
Here is a good how-to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
Make sure you only flash a version that has the same or newer bootloader version! Downgrading can/will brick your device.
Just look up your bootloader version:
30.70 = original 4.2.2
30.71 = 4.2.2 OTA with camera update
30.B2 = 4.4
30.B4 = 4.4.2
30.B7 = 4.4.4
Meaning if you have 30.B7 for example, flashing 4.4.2 is a big no-no
You can find more about it here: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-Downgrade.htm

First off, you have an XT1052, please only flash an XT1052 rom/SBF. I've seen XT1052 users try flashing XT1053 or XT1058 roms which left there radio's non-functioning.
Also be advised that you can not downgrade GPT.BIN and Motoboot.img. If you flash an SBF meant for another model, it might have a newer GPT.BIN/Motoboot.img and that could prevent you from flashing back to your stock XT1052 rom/SBF. (I've seen this also happen with XT1052 users who tried flashing Moto SBF's meant for other model 2013 X's.)
Lastly, you link to an XT1045 which is a Moto G meant for ATT USA, and completely different than the XT1052 (which is of course a 2013 Moto X).
As for the process of flashing back to stock, please see -> [GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash)
Thanks, will have a look.

I have done this by mistake without verifying the XT type properly and now radio is not functioning. Is it possible to get radio back if I re-flash with the proper XT type? I haven't tried this yet, but downloading image from site filefactory at folder/dd05c058d3ff8dbe/ based on recommendation else where on xda. Or will this be futile attempt?

Thanks

(sorry for the delayed response, I'm on vacation and spending time with my family)
Some of the older posters couldn't get the radio working after flashing the correct one. bUT it's worth. Shot to flash with the latest 5.1 SBF for your model.
hi guys i surpass bricked but yeah one thing is important for it pc or bootloader must be unlocked so u can flash custom ROM or custom recovery.

[Q] Possible to donwgrade to kitkat on VZW?

As the title says, run across a few differing posts - but is it possible to downgrade to kitkat from Lollipop on a verizon moto x?
I found this guide, which doesn't specify non vzw, so I'm wondering if its possible. TIA!
You would need root to do that, which doesn't exist on vzw moto x yet.
you can
this information is wrong, as i've done it twice via rsdlite. once, because i tried to install a 5.1 OTA i found from a brazil carrier via fastboot and mucked up my phone, second time just because i was curious. It works and i'll prove it if need be.
