Hi there.
Question: Custom ROMs not from Canada do not show Canadian only apps such as TD Mobile app (bank app). How does one set the local country so that the Market can detect the proper country?
I recently downloaded Rodrigaz MIUI ROM, and it's really great, except now I can't find my TD Mobile app. I called the bank and said that my phone or phone software is has to be set for Canada. Somehow if I flash my stock ROM it will show Canadian only apps, but some of these ROMs don't.
You're help is appreciated.

I have no problem finding the app using Cyanogen. The Market finds the app based on the fact that I use a Canadian Sim. However the TD app is also protected, which means you won't find it if the fingerprint in your build.prop isn't on Google's white list.
That being said, while you're figuring this out, you can access TD's mobile banking at this URL:

Use Market Access.
Well if I use Cyanogen or the Desire HD port, it not only shows the canadian TD app but also shows the prices in canadian funds with a CA symbol. But any MIUI roms don't. I figured it might be a setting in the build.prop that I could change, but I lack the knowledge of locating such property.

Market Access won't let you see protected apps. TD is a protected app.

Try searching for some of the following protected apps:
Fruit Ninja
A Online Radio
Paperdroid Pro
(not sure if they are still protected but they were the last time I checked)
Do you see any of them? If not, your problem is with protected apps, not with location.
In any case, one simple solution to test: Next time you're trying out Cyanogen, make a backup of the build.prop. Rename your MIUI build.prop to build.bak and paste in the one from CM6. Fix the permissions to what they were before. Then reboot and see what you get in the Market.
Thanks for the reply, I searched for these apps and they're there. About the build.prop, wouldn't mixing from another rom have compatibility issues?

It could be a problem, don't know. There's only one way to find out... I say take a nandroid backup of your status quo before making the changes. If it fails to boot you can do a nandroid restore.
Strange that you see protected apps but not TD. The standard method of identifying your country for the Market is usually based on the SIM. Maybe MIUI overrides this.
I tried using Cyanogen's build.prop file today and it still doesn't show the TD mobile app
I'm at a loss.
Okay well at least there's a workaround: install it from Cyanogen, Titanium Backup, and restore that app to MIUI

Oh, you mean adb pull it from there? I can try that.
I thought I'd mention that a lot of Google search results seem to point to a "fingerprint" or "footprint" feature of the software to indicate what region/country, which is what them protected apps seem to look for. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
You may not be able to adb pull the TD app from your CM6 or stock installation as it's a protected app. But when you back up a protected app with Titanium, it transforms it into an unprotected .apk file... if you reinstall it using Titanium from MIUI it will go back into protected space; or you can browse to the folder and manually install the apk, which will install it as an unprotected app.
This appear to start after a I installed ad free from market, the appear as little stars and usually direct to weird program in market, never ever had this before, I can upload a screenshot but together how to capture desktop.

Don't select them... that's spam 100%. Get rid off what you've installed recently (HD Wallpaper app was the culprit in my case). But, whatever you do, do NOT go to that link!
Wouldn't be adfree that's for sure, never had a problem with it.
Is there any app whick can tell me where this ads come from? I never had them before until I installed adfree, I uninstalled it already thought it came from it..
Has anyone on the KF2 rooted had their statusbar flicker or would know the cause of or solution to the issue?
It just turns off then on, seemingly random. My turning on I mean it appears, the icons adjust to match, then it disappears about one second later, and when I try to swipe down on it, I can't get anything to happen.
Installed new status bars (non root ones) and it replaced the bar that flashes...but the same issue.
This happened after a boot from using KindleFree. I used most of the tools on it, if you want to know I can list them. The only thing that I can POSSIBLY imagine went wrong would be when I tried to see how it would handle the setting a laucnher. So I got nova, rebooted, didn't like nova, set apex as default by pressing home, and that was that. I can't find nova in my ROM toolbox list of apps so I'm not sure how KindleFree installed it, and I'm not sure if that even caused the issue.
Any ideas?
I planned to just reset, re-root and start from clean when I get home but I'm at work for the next 7 hours and I'd like my statusbar back haha.
Well, some update I suppose.
TabletBar Hider does something. When I open the app and press restore, it makes the statusbar flash and appear for a bit. It's the ONLY thing that seems to have a direct effect on when it seems to appear. I tried using apps that make the notification area appear, and those did not work.
My best guess is something is forcing it to close....but I'm not sure what, or why.
Suggestions?
Well.....I've fixed it.
I wanted the Chameleon launcher so I changed my build.prop so the market would think I have a Nexus 7. No, this did not work for the market (I think I need to clear the cache) but, my status bar works! No idea what happened folks but.....there you go?
This thread can be locked or removed or whatnot. Since I really have no useful insight as to what broke or fixed it.
Signs point to installing Nova with KindleFree broke it, and that changing my build prop from a blaze tablet to a nexus 7, fixed it.
It makes no sense to me either, but that's what happened! Oh well, at least it works now. Happy modding and New Years all!

Have you installed Gmail by any chance?
I don't have the kindle fire 2, I have the hd, but for me gmail is the usual culprit for that like mentioned earlier. Other apps have caused it though. Usually going through and opening all the apps you used before it happens will clear that up. I do believe it's some sort of issue with notifications.

How did I not find that thread? Thanks! It could have been. From my thread, you can see my fix didn't seem related to me, BUT, yes, I did install gmail using KindleFree so that may have spawned some issues. However, I have used gmail since, and no issues. I'm not really sure what changing the build.prop does beyond supposedly trick the market, which didn't work for me. Thank you though! Hopefully we get to the root of what exactly this is! Two issues so far, both fixed in different ways. If it happens again I will try your fix and if that works then it's for certain gmail and hopefully we can help future issue finders!
I'm rather curious of getting market to believe the kindle is another device... it would be nice to not sideload so many apps
If you have success with this please post back with your build prop edits

This is something that I ran across while reading sometime ago, so I take no credit for it, I just thought I'd pass it along to help others. Basically all you need to do is use a file manager/explorer on your Note 3 (I use "My Files" most of the time) and long press on the file/app that you want to send to your Galaxy Gear and then hit the "share" button at the top of your screen. Then select "Bluetooth", and then choose the Galaxy Gear. After that, just hit "accept" on the Gear and that's it...nothing else is needed. It may take a few minutes just because bluetooth file transferring isn't extremely fast, but it works, and without having to enter commands in terminal/ADB, without any cables, without MobileGo which is a trial version (or cost $40), and you don't even need the Galaxy Gear's cradle (that you probably left at home like I did).
Once the file/app has transferred over, just use a file manager on your gear to maneuver to the "SDcard/Bluetooth" directory where your files will be waiting on the Gear. Then you can simply double click to install them or just move them where ever you want. My Gear already had a file manager on it after I installed the custom rom Null 18. Otherwise, getting that file manager app onto the Gear may be your biggest (also last) challenge as far as sideloading apps goes. I rooted, and then flashed the Null 18 rom first to save time, but now sideloading is a piece of cake.
I also took this method to the next level since I am also rooted as I mentioned. What I mean by that, is with Root Explorer you can navigate to the System/apps directory (which is normally hidden if not rooted and using something like RE to access it). Once there, you'll find that this is the directory where your installed apps are stored. Now you can use the same method mentioned above to pull apps that you may not have had the .apk files for. So in essence you are "ripping" the apps right from your Note 3 straight to your Gear! This gives you the ability to try and install/run ANY Android app (even those that are said NOT to be compatible with the Gear) because a lot of them will still run. Google Search/Google Now/Voice Search is GREAT on the Gear, and so are many others. NOW this device is really kickin! Enjoy.
Sweet...many thanks ..

Very cool, thanks. Simple and effective. I like the part about testing Android apps from your phone / tablet to see how they work on the Gear.
Hmm weird. ..I tried this with two different file mangers and when I scan for nearby devices to share with nothing comes up. Neither my note or gear are rooted so maybe this only works with null?

Nothing comes up for me either when I select Bluetooth.
I've been doing this for a bit. I have next launcher on my gear.

I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted on the Gear for this. I tried to do that when I went back to stock and was pretty mad that it wouldn't work. One more reason I was Null back.
But my Not3 is not rooted and na3 and na6 will not let me keep any sideloaded apps. So I am not going to get null back until this is fixed. I even went down to the first gear manager and it still doesn't work. Only mk7 with any gear manager allows me to keep my apps/put them on my home screen.
Works for me on a stock Note II!
How could I bluetooth download PdaNet Tablet to the Gear?
I need to get the files for PdaNet Tablet so I can get the BT PAN internet tethering going...
I can confirm that this works on my rooted Note II running stock 4.3

No need for root. Just use My Backup app on your phone. Saved apk is usually in sdcard/rerware
And this won't work for stock gear. But work on null rom. Been doing this for quite a while now.

Try to change your build.prop settings. Such as ro.product.model. To values from a supported device.
I am having the same issue. I am using the same settings as other supported devices via App Settings in Xposed but no luck at the sign in window. It seems that the device meets the requirements as it no longer gets the 6 in screen error but as soon as I tap the screen the log in prompts for half a second then the app force closes. I got it working on my Note 2 with zero issues... It has to be something beyond the normal screen check thing.
Works even without root
I tried this version:
http://ul.to/3gjvo0hs
This zip contains everything you need. Including apk und obb files.
The readme told me what to do.
Actually very easy.

Did that work on the Note 4? I have it working on several other devices like my Note 2 BUT on my Note 4 it crashes when I "Click to proceed" for the log in screen. Everything seems really fluid up until that point though.
You need a mod apk to work with no 6 Inch

The goo.gl link doesn't work anymore.
Here is the direct link: http://ul.to/3gjvo0hs.
Should work with almost all devices.
Apk is moded - so display size doesn't matter.
