I used the Sony PC companion software to back up the settings, etc. It's not like a nandroid backup but I suppose if things go wrong you can load the standard firmware and restore your settings, contact, messages, etc...

Follow this to create a stock FTF file that can be flashed via flastool any time you want.

Its not quite like a nandroid backup, and ftf files are much better.
If you want a complete backup for your phone after you have installed all apps and set it up the way you like then a nandroid backup is the best way
You can also try Sonys Backup and Restore App, it does save your App Data too!

Reinstall the Stock ROM, restore your backup. Then use Titanium Backup to make a proper backup of all your apps and data.

No offence but it just sounds simple but practically very hectic. I have my phone fully set up and have this same issue. Redoing takes a lot of effort and time specially after office hours, so if there is a workaround for this, it would be very much appreciated.

Sorry, but offence is taken. @Skyfall6 posted a copy of the Stock LG backup app which doesn't work on a v4.2 system - the most likely reason for it not working is because it requires other things from the LG framework in order to function properly.
If you need to restore your phone to Stock then follow the guides. If you need to recover certain data from a previously made LG backup - such as contacts etc - then use CWM to backup your current ROM then flash the Stock ROM, recover your backup, extract the data you want (with TB or similar), and restore from your CWM backup so you are back with the same setup you have now.
Regardless of how busy work, life etc is that is the quickest and easiest way to do it - especially in the month since this thread was last commented on.
There are often not easy answers to the problems that people find when using custom ROMs - you have to just put the time and effort in to get what you want.

Did you even read this thread? The LG Backup app doesn't work on custom roms, because it relies on LG's framework which isn't present in custom roms (except for stock based ones). If you need to restore an .sbf file, follow SimonTS's method. If you just need to make a backup, use TitaniumBackup or any similar app.
its work!

Please, for gods sake use your brain for once in your life and check your phone's model.
G2 has official 4.2.2 ROM which means custom ROMs based on 4.2.2 would probably include LG framework files. Our latest official ROM is 4.1.2 and NO ONE of the 4.2.x+ ROMs include LG framework so you can't simply get it to work on custom ROMs.
Sidenote: Our phone is LG 4x HD P880, not LG G2.
Guys please suggest is there any way to have backup of stock ROM before rooting?
The only thing you have to backup are your apps and their data. I suggest to use "Titanium-Backup" it is not for free, but the best solution. I didn´t do a backup. Normally you don´t be forced to use it (until you want to install a custom rom)
Check some the threads in the Dev section about making your own ftf.

Doesn't having the original copy of stock ROM without the root and possible changes to flash counter give a clean ROM especially for warranty work?

There isn't any way to make a backup without a working recovery, so you need root, to delete all the trails of the root you need only to flash a stock firmware with flashtool.
(If you want to unlock your bootloader, take a backup of your TA partition to save the warranty)
You can find all on the forum
You don't need to make a backup of your apps and data, cause if you only root without unlocking bootloader it won't wipe anything.
Sorry, I didn't read the date of the post.
Ya got it and thanks for your reply. Anyways I have sold xz and moved on to Z Ultra.
Does it fit for Samsung devices, Tablets?

No, if they have a flash counter you can use the triangle away app from chainfire to reset the flash counter, and go back in warranty

Thanks Anyway, the problem redoing the Rom didn't change the Knox status. So since knox is trigger can't update, which I think is going too far. I should be entitled to updates and if they don't work that is on me. Looking for a forum where people may want to class action suit on Samsung over knox.

Morning all,
Am about to sell my Z1 and wanted to revert to stock so the buyer has what warranty is left, I have had two Z1 phones, both of which I have unlocked and both of which I have the TA back up's from, the problem is I no longer know which is which, is there a way to tell which one I need for this phone? dates on the folders won't work, but is there a distinguishing characteristic on there and would it be a problem if I flashed the wrong TA? OR would it just fail, no bricks?
Many thanks.
You would brick the phone if you flash wrong TA.

Yea that's what i'm afraid of crap. Anyway to deter which one is which??
I could maybe go by date but it's a risk, i've just reflashed an FTF file to revert the phone to stock, not 100% if this is the right way round or not, was I supposed to be rooted while restoring the TA partition?
Thanks by the way.
Yes, you need root to restore the ta.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
None of the roms touch ta...u don't need to restore it...deselect that while restoring
@dladz
1. Root your phone
2. After root, try to use option Dry-run for restore TA, for each TA backup you made
3. If succesful, then it is the right TA for your phone
NB: you can also test all TA backup, to verify which phone have that backup, for make sure you didn't HARD BRICK your phone
4. Flash firmware via Flashtool, with full wipe, or you can do this after restore TA partition, and then flash firmware via Flashtool
5. And now, you ready to sell your phone
=)
I assume you do all this using Sony STOCK OFFICIAL firmware and STOCK OFFICIAL kernel
=)
Good luck, happy trying
=)

Thanks for this and to everyone else, unfortunately I've already sold it, so it's gone to it's new owner who's more than happy to be flashing rom's onto it and has no intention of sending it off for warranty purposes so it's win win, thanks for your responses.

I am somewhat new to android...
Can someone please point me in the right direction here?
Currently I have an Xperia Z1 C6906 running rooted cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-honami with CWM.
I do not have a nandroid backup because I am stupid and did not know about this app.
I want to move back to the stock 4.4.4 Sony ROM and root. I cannot find this ROM or installation instructions.
Is this possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
EDIT: I have found XperiaFirm and downloaded a file through the software. I have a question though, I live in the US and I bought the phone second hand, it was originally set up on the network Claro. If i download the US Customized firmware through XperiaFirm and restore the firmware with FlashTool, are there any consequences?
Also, I'm not too familiar with how ROMS, Kernals, and Firmwares are all related. Can I just flash the firmware I downloaded onto the device and everything will be returned to normal?
you won't get no problems with different customizations, just make sure it is the right model number. did you backup your TA partition before? reply me in order to i get a notification. Thanks

I did not make a backup of my TA partition. Unfortunately, I didn't know to do that.
I have successfully flashed my phone using the software I mentioned above and everything is working as far as I can tell. Going back to stock, I think I have lost my root, unlocked bootloader, etc., correct?
Thanks for your help!

You lost your root etc on stock that is correct, but since you dont have your ta partition your camera performance will be lowered. İ suggest you to look at this thread for a fix. Good luck.

Just got a new unit and would like to make a full backup of the factory ROM before proceeding to try out different ROMs. I did find an old thread from 2011 [HOW-TO]Create Custom ODIN Images for Backup/Restore but I'm not entirely sure if this is still accurate advice.
Also, it says that the device needs to be rooted in order to make the backups. My understanding is that if I root the system it will be detected by the system and OTA updating will then be disabled, which is not what I want. So my second question is: Is it really necessary to root and if so what is the best temporary method?

Small piece of advice my friend, be sure to include EFS in the backup to be on the safe side, also I suggest making a copy on a external SD or transferring to a PC
Why efs?

According to TWRP they say:
Some devices have “special partitions” like WiMAX, pds, efs, etc. These partitions almost never need to be included in a normal backup.

I already did one restore from my backup which had not included efs and it worked ok. What exactly is efs and why would we need it?

The EFS folder contains important information from the phone, like the IMEI for example, and if it gets erased by error it may affect your ability to successfully connect to a provider. Backups in TWRP will give you the option to backup important partitions one of those is the EFS folder, alternatively you may also use an application to make a backup (requires root) like EFS Manager(IMEI)-Note4 on the play store.
