Hi,
I am always afraid of not being able to restore my phone with some sort of backup. Due to the fact that the amazing flashtool is a bit to high tech for me I was able to find a way to easy restore my device. Here is how I did this:
1: Downloade Sony Update Service from here: (Click)
2: Install it
3: Open it (it is wise to close Sony PC companion)

}
4: Accept the terms and contitions and click next
5: Select your device:
6: Click Next
7: Follow intstuctions on screen. If you are running the latest stock it will tell you. You can abort it and you can continue it. You also see some warnings about loosing data!!
8: After flash it will tell you to unplug device and turn it on.
9: DONE

No I've contacted Sony and they said that if you are on Windows 8/8.1 you need to run the program in compatible mode Windows 7..
How about TA partition for unlocked bootloader??
First lock bootloader and then restore it? Or first restore and than lock??
It works in WinXP compatiibility mode, thanks.
I unlocked my bootloader and installed ROM 4.3 of doomlord, so i can do use this metod for restore for stock ROM ?

No you first need to relock your bootloader and restore TA. After that you can use this. But you need to be on a 2.254 based rom before relocking so flashing any ftf with Flashtool will work aswel.
But i dont create TA restore :/ and now, What i do?
Sorry bad english, i'm brazilian

That is very very dumb. The tutorial of Doomlord indicates that it is very very important to create a TA backup before unlocking bootloader. You can relock bootloader but features that needed the TA files (DRM keys) will no longer work.
I am using a custom rom but have not unlocked my bootloader. Can I use this and get back to stock?
Sorry if this is a silly question

Then i powered off the phone thinking i could start it later and get back into CWM to flash a different ROM but my phone just powered on to the SONY logo and nothing else.
This worked great. Very quick and easy :good:
Hi all,
I've ask a mod to close this thread of mine the reason for this is simple. Sony has stopped it's support for the Sony Update Service or SUS.. It has been merged into Sony PC companion or PCC. When I have the time I will create a new thread with explanation about the Sony PC Companion and the use of the "SUS" function!
Sorry guys I can't help it...

Your firmware is 10.1.E.0.244? seems 250 above can not be rooted
i am on 10.1.E.0.250
just purchased on 3 May and rooted using the root many android tool.
now i am wondering, if i will lose root after upgrading my firmware by flashing the FTF file...
@xperiax10.awesome
just tried to follow your links to create my FTF files.
however, the flashtool did not flash FTF file into my tablet.
i have followed the instruction in the NOOB post, created my files by including all EXCEPT loader.sin
all went well until i started to flash the files.
i can connect my tablet at flash mode, but it stucks at that, and disconnect automatically and reboot my tablet.
then flashtool saids i am connecting with USB debug off (but it is on), and might be in MTP mode (but it is in MSC mode).
any help is appreciated. thanks

Didn´t know exactly what you did
But create the FTF without loader.sin (because flashtool hasn´t the correct one yet)
after this you have to add the loader.sin from an other FTF Tablet Z File (for example from this Firmware)
So after all you have an FTF File with the correct loader.sin
After that turn the device off and connect it to the pc when the flashtool show the message to connect a device to the computer while holding VOL down.

thank you... but this loader.sin file replacing process is getting too complicated ....
would be great if it was included in the OP of this post or the NOOB guide.... with corresponding instructions.
after all, flashing a FTF without certain element is already quite risky.
flashing a FTF with a loader.sin from another firmware is even more risky as we have no way to tell if this would brick the tablet ...

rename the ftf to zip.
extract the loader.sin
add the loader.sin in the new Firmware (renamed from ftf to zip)
then rename back to .ftf
There is no risk with the loader, if it fits it will flash if not it will not flash.

however, i still cannot flash it through ... same error, after device connected, nothing happening, flashtool disconnect my device automatically and make it reboot and reports that USB debugging is off (but it is turned on before i turn the device off)
finally got my tablet updated successfully using the sony mobile update service.
but lost my root afterwards. (´д`|||)

The only way to root new firmware at the moment may be flashing a CWM zip of the latest version, after flashing the rootable FTF with root and recovery installed.
And OTA from a rooted firmware also works.

As far as I remember u need flashtool beta 4 to flash .434 firmware im not sure about it though as I recently flashed a .350 firmware with beta 6,
I'd suggest you try another ftf as there were some which didn have loader.sin included in them, maybe thats why the error.

Actually, It does not matter which version of FlashTool you use to flash any version of the firmware ... considering the original error, it's even unrelated...
Code:
06/029/2013 09:29:17 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MINOR";ERR_CODE="0026";ERR_DYNAMIC=" Write TA failed.";
The TA partition is actually something which should not be touched by an FTF... it's phone specific and contains everything which makes your phone unique ... flashing the TA from someone else can actually render your phone bricked ...
@Androxyde may be able to shed a light on the error...
@jason57 you might want to download a different FTF and try again... Do you have the link to the FTF you downloaded and tried to flash?
Ok so I'm trying to downgrade my XSP since it's just painful to use it on 4.3,way too many bugs.
But I get this error when I try to flash a generic 4.1.2 ftf.

did you already search for a solution for your Problem on XDA and google? sorry for being a prick, but I would guess you haven't...
It seems thet you can still get into flashmode. try to flash a stock kernel via fastboot flash boot boot.img. find the advanced stock kernel that fits your ROM in the Advanced stock kernel thread in original android development.
also try flashing a rom with fastboot mode.

Have you tried using the official Sony 'EMMA' restore service for unlocked bootloaders?
Worth a try.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/
There is one module in all stock firmwares, named "boot-delivery.xml".
When I try to flash FW with this module - flashtool bringing me an error. Log will be down below.
If I will exclude this file, FW will flash normally, without any errors.
Flashtool gathering info from the phone when flashing boot-delivery.xml. There it is.
Code:
Phone boot version : S1_Boot_Lagan_1.0_2
Also, flashtool is checking boot version of the .xml file, I assume. There it is for the file.
Code:
Boot delivery version : S1_Boot_Lagan_1.1.1_1
So, the question is: Can I update phone boot to version 1.1.1_1 from 1.0_2?
It is needed to flash the whole firmware, without excluding any files.
There is flashtool log:

Thanks, and sorry for my weird English =3
Are you using the latest version of Flashtool? Flashing of the boot bundle is only possible in newer versions (0.9.13 and newer), I believe.
If you are, then I have no idea. You could ask in the Flashtool thread.
Also, your English is just fine.

I'm using Flashtool 0.9.18.2
Every launch flashtool is checking for updates, with no errors.
You should ask in the Flashtool thread then. Androxyde does respond to questions in there.

Still have't found the answer. Don't know what to do.
Tried updating Flashtool?
Try using a different FTF or creating your own with Flashtool. Guide here.

Flashtool's latest version. Tried to create FTF files. First time, dowloaded by XperiFirm, second - by Flashtool. Didn't helped. I see that the problem is in the boot-delivery.xml, which expects newer version of "Boot Lagan", whatever it is. And I see that without flashing boot-delivery.xml, Flashtool isn't updating that boot_lagan.
I don't know what to suggest then. Try a different USB cable/port or even a different PC.
I've flashed FTFs to my device many times with Flashtool and never encountered that error. It's very strange.
Edit - Also, what device do you have? It's odd that it says it's unknown in the Flashtool logs.

C6603.
By the way, I have another C6603. Flashtool flashing it wothout any problems. Two C6603's...
But on second phone boot lagan ver is 1.1.1.1, which is needed to the boot-delivery.
I assumed that if Flashtool can't update it, PC Companion can. And got another problem
Enter to the recovery section in PC Companion, choosing model, it downloads FW and prepares to flashing, after it - asks me to connect turned-off phone with volume-down pressed. I'm connecting it, and guess what... I receive a notice that I have newest firmware and have no need to update it. But I want to recover, not to update!
Okay, flashed .230 firmware, wanted PCC to update FW to .283. Nope. I'm still having newest firmware... What the...
I am having the exact same problem with flashtool (phone boot version and boot version error) and now my phone is stuck on a bootloop which gives me an error saying software update failed. please help if you found a solution. Thanks

Just exclude "bootbundle" from flashing. When you choosing files to flash, there is some checkboxes. Find "BOOTBUNDLE", and choose it.
This way phone is flashing normally.
Hello.
I have the same problem ... someone to fix it ???
Looks like the only way - is to exclude bootbundle from flashing.
Nothing bad happens.
