[Q] Stock SMS Question - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When using the stock SMS app, I always use it in landscape as that is most effective way for me to type. When I am finished typing the message and press send, the typing box and keyboard stay put. Is there any way to make is automatically go away so I can see the chat window instead of having to press the back button every time I was to see the full chat window? This is extremely annoying. I want to stay stock and with the stock SMS app. Thanks

Bumping once... anybody?

The stock keyboard is garbage.. download "TouchPal X" from the app market. It has an arrow which gets rid of the keyboard. It's free and it's great and highly customizable

As long as a text box has focus, the keyboard will stay active. This is not a function of the SMS app, but of the OS in general.

Many thanks for the replies!!!!

Ouf of subject... group texting on stock sms???

You need to root and use the xposed installer with wanum. Or download Go SMS it has the group messaging feature built in

how to select and copy text from gmail app

Do you know how i can copy some text from gmail app? ?
I was just going to post the exact same thing. Needed to copy some text in an e-mail today and send it to someone via text and couldn't do it.
I thought going to gmail via the browser in classic mode would work but as soon as you go to your inbox the mobile version loads.
Any updates on this? Seems to be a bit of an oversight (ala original iPhone) that you cannot copy text from either the Nexus GMail or Email apps. Perhaps it is possible and we have not worked out how to do it ????
I use dolphin browser with Pc user agent

not yet,
this cannot be done at the moment....Goggle should think about these things and not update maps...

Fair enough. No doubt the capability will come in time.
You can apparently do this on the droid with the hardware keyboard, I believe it's hold down shift and select with the dpad.
This would mean the app allows it, but there's no way to get to it with the touchscreen.

As a temporary workaround, you can load up your Gmail in the browser and use the select/copy/paste functions just like you can on any website.
Oh, and the iPhone didn't have ctrl+x/c/v at all until the 3.0 software that was just released last summer.
i usually hit reply on the gmail app and select text from there

How does that work. I just tried it and if I it reply in the N1 Gmail app, I still cannot select the quoted text? Otherwise it would have been an excellent suggestion.

Wake on SMS Receipt

This question is quick, and it's strange that I haven't found an answer to it in my searches, but anyways:
How can I make my screen turn on, instead of just buttons (In Assonance ROM 5.2) when I receive a text message?
Regards
Smith
I don't use stock messaging stoop but it seems like I have read about people using an app called sms popup to activate screen when a text comes in....assuming of course you just want it to come on for a brief time.
3rd party messaging apps like handcent have this built in.

[Q] Samsung Messaging app (GB)

Well, i have the stock messaging app, and using TW launcher 4.. so its literally stuck on the home screen. That being said, ive decided to use that app because i like the TW launcher. My problem is, because that app doesnt have the popup notification, i downloaded SMS popup, and now whenever i reply to an sms using SMS popup, it doesnt mark the message as read. And it also shows a little blip with (#) of unread messages right there on the home screen.
How can i fix this?
Thanks
probably something the app maker needs to fix. I would email them. I use go sms right now and when I read it through the pop ups it kills the notification.

Thanks
I think for sms popup you have to disable notifications on the stock app and then use it...

Sorry, u do disable it in the stock sms app. I knew 5 minutes after I typed but I had a busy day and never got back to relieve myself of the stupidity I typed.

SMS Popup does not have any options to disable stock messaging app notifications.

That's only half of it. That only takes out the notification in the notification bar and the ringtone/vibration. In the TW4 launcher, the messaging app gets a little blip, like IOS about unread message. That is what i want to erase. I set the notification on the stock messaging app completely off, but that blip still comes here .
Its literally a circle with the number of unread messages in it at the top right side of the application shortcut. ie. (2)

Quick Compose via Handcent SMS

Hi, has anyone been able to get the home key long press remapped for the quick compose feature with handcent sms? With my older EVO 3D I was able to use the search button for that, but no luck with the HTC One. Hate having to open handcent and then click new to get a text out real quick.
I use chompSMS and quickcompose from notification bar. That will be so until someone comes up with another solution to map this kind of app to another button
Im also getting this dilemma. Probably ill just email the developer about this issue.
Yes, still waiting for an update that will incorporate quick compose similar to chomp that had it on the notification bar

Reply to SMS from anywhere?

Basically what I am looking for is something that will let me reply to messages without ever opening the app. Essentially it would open a window and a keyboard from my notification menu and let me reply from within other apps without exiting the original app to reply to the message. Anyone know of an app or something of the sort that will allow this? Thanks for the help
Download a third party sms app that has a popup reply function. When you receives a text, a little popup will appear on top of your current app and let you type your reply without exiting the current app
Textra has this feature and I loved it. I'm using hangouts currently cause I can read the whole text in the notification bar and respond when I want
Thanks guys!
