Guys,
i m totally sucked off bye this phones battery problem.
even i got new battery from flipkart, its giving me battery problem.
Every aspect of this phone is geat.
Most good is developer support. Thank u guys. U r Gods.
.
Now i m thinking giving up this phone.
i have 2 options Moto Atrix 2 or xperia Arc S ?
what u think friends ?
or still continue on o2x ?
plz give ur comments and options.
the only reason why i would choose the atrix is the ram. oterwise stay on O2x. I will personally change it only when sgs3 comes out
sent from my CM9 kang powered LG Optimus 2x via XDA premium
Atrix has a larger 1930 Mah battery, though i haven't used an atrix, but bigger battery should mean long lasting battery....
I have used an arc, battery life is same as that on optimus rather wrse than 2x coz in that set the light sensor can't be turned off...
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Flipped off by the battery? My battery even on a stock ROM has no problem lasting a day of use.
I haven't got more than a day of battery with any smartphone except galaxy note..
It gave me full 2 days with games and games and games going on
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA
The atrix also has a larger screen and that's gonna eat more battery and more fps in games so no thanks, i wouldn't trade my o2x for any of those but that's personal preference no one can tell you want to choose so make your mind up and deal with the consequences.
Looking at the specs, I'd get the Atrix 2 although I would imagine the Xperia Arc S would give better battery life.
Although it seems -depending where you live- the Atrix 2 is 4G so if you used that a lot, it would drain the battery fast (You can turn it off, just like 3G).
Signal might be weak in your area, if that's the case, no phone will give you long battery times. On tha other hand: isn't it possible that there are no two identical devices, some have slightly better electronic parts placed in, some worse, draining more juice in given time? Some people write about 20-40 hours of battery-life, i personally never could squeez more than 12-16 hours out of mine. Using 2G only, Juice Defender etc. I'm now on hei's Nova HD Plus RC9-18. This gives me about 18-20 hours of avarage use.

There could be something in that. I've just picked up an EVO 3D, and people complain about the terrible battery life. I'm currently on about 1 day 13 hours, and I've being trying to drain the battery lol. Somewhere between 20 to 25% left on it at present. My O2X has been pretty good as well
If I go to my office, I know battery life will be bad, as the signal is VERY bad, and is cut out about 80% of the time (it's continually on/off).. so wastes a lot of battery juice.

Atrix II seems to be a better choice. It's got stronger battery, MotoBlur is quite handy. It definitely has longer battery life under the same circumstances. Not to mention the possibility to hook it on a LapDock! Great stuff!

Ofcourse yes...
Sensation's SLCD loses its colours at angles more than 45° while this 2X's as well as iPhone'z IPS are a lot better in colours and also its blacks are deep
Overall it boosts the contrasts and is better than normal SLCD

I see... Well in this case i definitely would stick to Ox2!
really usefull ?
I think the Motorola will be best :battery life ,larger screen ,more ram ,better call experience ,etc
but i don't think it's very usefull to change from an optimus 2x ,the experience will be quietly the same ...better wait for sgs 3 or quad core phone

They will sure rock, but the prices will be conciderebly high, mostly the first couple of months, maybe years. OX2 is still offers one of the best price/quality proportion.
stick with your o2x and wait until the new generation of quadcore phones (e.g. huawei ascend d) become cheaper
It doesn't look like anyone has posted the full review yet, so here you go.
Anandtech Review
Turns out the issue with performance was actually due to new drivers, which allow for the full suite of benchmarks to be run. As a result, the CPU gets throttled after all that torture testing.
The new benchmarks, done without running the full suite, are posted in the review.
OMG. The battery life IS atrocious. Lol.
Yeah the battery really is bad. Its the most concerning issue right now for me as I debate whether or not to pull the trigger on this. My biggest concern is the cellular talk time and the wifi hotspot time. Those things can't really be blamed on the cpu thermal throttling issues as neither are CPU intensive tasks. Would a software update really even have the potential to fix those particular benchmarks?
EDIT: Unless the radio drivers are just really poor? That might explain the bad benchmarks on web browsing too since data would be in use the entire time for those benchmarks as well. Maybe then there is hope for a software improvement to battery life? I really hate buying things based on what they might be able to do in the future vs what I know they can do now

Not if you want to fry your internals. Lol.
I'm guessing that the heat cannot dissipate effectively because of the screen on the front which is emanating heat, and the damn wireless inductive charging pad which is, in my mind, like a blanket. And I'm not even sure how effective glass is at displacing heat when couple with plastic.
But actually, cellular talk does release heat. Have you not noticed your phone getting hot when talking for extended periods of time? I believe the radio chip gets hot, maybe not necessarily the CPU. Regardless of where the heat is coming from, however, the sensors may still pick up on it. *shrugs*.
I'd advise you to wait 3 ~ 4 weeks if you can. Don't waste your time being the early adopter and wasting time dealing with early-release issues.

Well, every bad for a good we say where I'm from.
Looks like a whole bunch of us are gonna wait for exactly that.
On the review, keep in mind that we're not sure what version of the software all those test units use. Probably an unfinished version..
It hasn't really come together for me...
- No 32GB or Micro SD
- Poor battery life still, the update hasn't fixed it
- Poor benchmark results
I wanted to buy cause I thought it would be a bargain powerhouse but in the end it is obvious why the thing is so cheap. I'll just wait for my upgrade in April and get the GS4 if that is any good but until then my GS2 is doing just fine.
Seems fine.. compared to the Galaxy Nexus, which I regularly get 2 days at at time out of, the battery rates about the same, so no worries for me.
well, iv been "forced" to wait now, i was trying to order earlier today in the UK, but maybe it was a good thing i didnt get it yet
Well the "battery" test involves using chrome so...chrome sucks lot of power
not realy a good battery test imho

Agreed. Chrome really isn't ready for prime time in my experience. Even on my Nexus 7, I use dolphin and its much smoother and faster than Chrome.
So even if we throw out the browser tests because of Chrome, why the low talk times compared to other phones with smaller batteries?
My take away is:
Software - Great
Design - Great
Performance - Good, could get better with kernels
Camera - Par
Battery Life - Par
More realistic than the sky high expectations set by everyone for a $350 off-contract phone.

I'm sorry but benchmarks mean sweet FA. My GNex is faster in actual usage than my One X although the One X is 3 times faster in Quadrant. Battery life is completely subject to usage - I don't believe their graphs as my One X is pitiful compared to my Nexus. Whereas me Nexus would be at 80%+ at this time of day my One X is currently sitting at 62% as I type with the same minimal work day usage
Really wanted this phone, but there are a number of areas that mean quite a lot to me to be honest, it hasn't really delivered:-
1. Battery life - no getting away from it, its poor. Marginally better than the GNex but no so much you would notice, despite a bigger battery.
2. Camera quality - Yes again, its better (not difficult), but somehow, it just isn't as good as it could be. Slightly slow shutter speed, average quality.
3. Audio quality - We haven't yet seen the full score with that, but again, the consensus seems to be "average"
4. Storage capacity - even less than the GNex (8/16 vs 16/32). We don't all have access to 4G internet and no limits to store all of our files in the cloud.
Now, yes I appreciate this is really nit-picking but I'm not really unhappy with the performance of my GNex, and it will still get the update. It is not slow, or choppy, and as such, with the values of the GNex how they stand, I'm reluctant to fork out £150 to upgrade to a phone, which no doubt is an upgrade, but not one you'll notice very easily.
As it stands, I'm thinking that vanilla android alone is not enough to make it a worthwhile swap over something like an HTC One X+, despite the price difference. OK the N4 has a faster CPU and more RAM, but I'm not much of games player, but it has a better screen, camera, sound quality and more storage. Or a Galaxy Note which is just as fast, much better battery life, bigger screen, expandable, better camera etc.
I can see why this phone is cheaper than the competition TBH. I am a big fan of Vanilla Android, but there can be no denying it plays second fiddle on *most* specs (all but RAM, CPU and , possibly screen).
BUT, I'll probably still get one, LOL.

Yeh one thing that puzzles me is they have the LTE One X topping the charts for most of the battery tests alongside the iPhone. However, wasn't the One X knocked for only having a 1800 mAH battery and poor battery life? Or was that only for the Tegra One X?

I should really qualify my last statement with I'm currently running the JB test build from HTC (as I'm a member of Elevate) so it's not on the final build but even on ICS it was poor compared to my Nexus. I can't see me having any issues with the N4 as I don't game/listen to music on my phone - it's purely a communication tool so email/FB/Twitter/SMSs/calls is the order of the day for me
Benchmarking wise the Nexus 4 is a joke. People were talking about this miraculous ota that will make it better but nothing happened. The camera isn't among the best and battery life sucks. Jeez, iPhone 5 with LTE is way better than the 3G Nexus 4. We can hate on Apple as much as we want but sometimes they get the job done way better than android makers/vendors.
I wanted this phone so bad but now I can wait to see what happens.

The sad part is tests rarely reflect reality, people get poor battery life on the iPhone 5 despite the controlled tests suggesting it should have excellent battery life, moral of the story is YMMV, its not as cut and dry as raw data correlating to reproducible performance. The benchmarks aren't great so there is one criteria left and that is how it performs in real world usage cause I'm not going to benchmarking like a maniac as it serves no benefit, as I actually want to use my phone. I'd say it passes that criteria well from numerous reviews. Camera quality (video) is reportedly improved though have to wait for Anandtech to update the review and upload new videos. I'll be getting mine in December wanna wait for some cases and then pull the trigger on the purchase

Benchmarking wise benchmarking doesn't have to do with anything. Jesus.....
I'm assuming all these reports of poor battery life include Google Now being enabled. I know its a key feature on JB(4.1/4.2) but I use it on CM10 now and its a HUGE battery drainer. When i turn it off, my battery life is markedly better. I'm assuming if you turn it off with the N4 you'll see better battery life.
As we the tittle suggests I am thinking on switching from my old lg ox2 to this beast ^^. I've never had a Sony xperia phone before but my mom had xperia arc and seems a pretty solid phone.
What I would expect from this phone:
- Good camera/video quality (I dislike OX2 camera quality).
- Sony software updates faster than LG (This should be easy to achieve, Lg is really slow).
- Good XDA development, OX2 had lots of software problems but great developers to fix them.
- No lags, OX2 had ram issues.
- Better battery life than OX2. Atm my OX2 last around 1day or so with 1.5 hour screen on.
What do you think guys, should I get this phone, is there anything that would make me dislike it?

don't really know about this one.

I guess the Z's development sub-forum speaks for itself. Loving the developers work.

No lags spotted in my 3 days of owning the device, everything's snappy.

I am a bit concerned about the display, I've read it has a low contrast ratio, but how does it translate in terms of quality?
The contrast level is lower than 02x, but it's nothing to worry about as it's also 1080p which automatically makes it better. One of the things I didn't like about using the 02x for two years is that it got dirty but the XZ is great as I wash it all the time and it looks new all the time.
However I am getting occasional sleep of death on it and I don't know why. Battery does seem to last longer. I don't like the fact it's not gorilla glass however, it's some other Sony glass.
Hopefully the sod are caused by an app... I don't want to go through that again like in the ox2...

1 day with 1.5 screen on is easily achievable, i m on 66% after 2 hours usage, with 1.5 hours screen on, was reading book whole commuting time. and it keeps juice all day, I have about 12% left when I go to sleep.

I guess people expect to use it with the screen on a lot and still last a day, lol. It's obvious if you use it, it isn't going to last long but if in stand by is around 2 days I'll be happy then .;
Hey all,
reason I ask is that I've had the phone for about 4-5 months and I'm already disenchanted by the overall experience.
Battery life is an odd one as it changes on a day to day basis (Obviously), but the general issue is that some days I can use it all the time without issue, another day like today it's been on for an hour and a half, and it's dropped to 96%
On the subject of battery I needed to use my phone for car navigation and even with it plugged into a 1.5 mah charger it kept dropping. slower but still going down this is the same amp-age as the wall charger from Sony.
so that's one thing.
other thing is the general day to day use.
I thought the waterproofing would be useful in hindsight it's a pain in the arse, as the door flaps are awkward to open when your hopping in and out of our vehicle, and I listen to a lot of music so the headphone plug sees a lot of action in my pocket, not broken but it's a poor design after extended use.
Now the next bit is probably going to get the fans of this phone up in arms, but I'll say it anyway.
I wish I had waited a few weeks longer for the S4 by Samsung, I had the Note 2 before hand and the battery life was exceptional even with constant use, and the the design while unimaginative in design and materials fitted the bill perfectly.
So do you regret getting the Xperia Z and if so why, and would you / are you going to change and if so what?
Never. For the battery issues, I rooted my phone and have better power control with CPU Tuner. So far the battery can last 2 to 3 days on my general usage.
As for the waterproof, I looooove it sooo much. The phone stays with me all the time, even when I was taking bath. Having the phone to be waterproof, I feel no worries in case I need to handle the phone with wet hands.
i wouldnt say i regret buying the z but i would say that i am disappointed with couple of things in the phone .
for example the camera : whatever users say but deep down everyone will agree its pure rubbish , they have really messed up with the camera be it with any settings.
battery life : you are right about the battery life , some times its normal and sometimes it drops 3-4 percent very quickly , betterbatterystats shows different wake up everyday even though i use the same apps and do the same stuff everyday on the phone.
wifi signal : plain HORRIBLE !
yup every phone has its shortcomings and xperia z has these shortcomings , but i am not regretting buying the phone but yes disappointed with certain things which they could have definitely done it better.
i replaced my phone 6 days after buying due to the sides "popping" up. other than that i'm pretty satisfied with the phone and the custom rom developments on it
i dont regret..its an awesome experience day after day, getting even better.
yeah the rom developments is really fast as compared to my S3 LTE. barely have much rom to play with
No I don't regret buying it, but sad of SONY's service.

Other than that I'm satisfied.
Seems my gripes are the same as you guys.
Well it confirms that this isn't my mind playing, the grass is greener on the other side.
I'm very disappointed at the camera as this was one of my reasons for my purchase, and well the battery is starting to piss me off as if i'm away from home for long I end up home with 3 % left.

What is everybody comparing the camera to? I have had A LOT of phones (see my sig) recently and I think the camera is better than anything except the Pureview 808. Having said that, I will take the other features, most noteably Android and Google Services over the other features in the Nokia, even the 1020.
After playing with my cousin's s4, the only I thing I like about the s4 is the camera features. Never regretted buying the Z when it was launched here and not waiting for the s4. I will only regret if there's something s4 can do that my Z can't in general. Since I got my wireless Internet, my battery life has been much better than before. With 3g I get around 4 and a half hours plus of screen on. Haven't test fully with wifi but currently on wifi, I'm on 70 percent with almost 2 hours of screen on time without uc and uv.

BUT this phone has a unique feel when held naked AND the screen is fantastic. The biggest positive for me is that this is the first android device that does not have any lag when texting regardless of keyboard used.

I consider the XZ sound quality out of the headphone jack to be very good. Well ahead of the S and almost on par of that of the Walkman Z, Sony's top Walkman player.
Speaker quality is another story. It is awful. But it might have an explanation, water resistance, you know.
i regret getting it because i preordered it for 749 AUD
the stock firmware is horrible
the camera is mediocre
and the battery life has gone terrible since 4.2.2
the phone gets hot, like, 60 degrees celsius on the cpu doing web browsing
also the wifi is a pain in the ass.
i wish i waited a bit of the gs4 as well, but i was desperate because my incredible S broke and i was using a nokia lol
i don't regret at all and im a proud owner of my xperia z
I'm planning on buying a xperia z, but with all upgrades there's a few things I have to check before I can commit on buying a new phone.
1 - how stable are the cm10.2 builds ? Such as battery performance ?
2 - battery performance on stock firmware ?

The battery life is pretty bad OP to answer your question honesty. Also the screen is poor, which may bother you. (very bad contrast and viewing angles). Aside from that it is good. Great design, definitely turns heads
Go look at battery tests, S4 sits as one of the top.
Also op, if you get one without an unlockable bootloder (like myself), you'll never even get to try cm
Well I had 7 h screen on time, and one day < battery. Way better than my sgs2 had.

yep, two people on this site get battery life like this...
Seems legit.
Go check any battery tests on gsmarena, etc.. Did not fare especially well.
I mean it isn't horrid, but 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours of screen on time isn't anything to write home about
Depends
Depends on how you intend on using it.
If you're a avid gamer, then I probably would not recommend it. Battery life when gaming is average or below average.
However if you're not, and gaming is reserved for the tablet, then I highly recommend it.
Aside from being one of the most beautiful phones out there, you can get it for quite a good price now. Performance is, honestly, all you really need at the moment.
Despite what people say, the screen is very sharp (admittedly viewing angles are not the best, but it's not a concern for me as I pretty much always view it front on. Also when you think about it, you get more privacy).
Battery life is not bad at all (if you don't run heavy games all the time). On screen time varies and can be between 3.5 - 5 hours or so, but don't be obsessed with the times though, just enjoy it. Unless you have nothing to do all day then it's quite hard to run out of battery during the day. Talk times and quality are pretty good.
Loving my Z, I can't say that this phone is the best at anything, but all together as a package it's quite awesome. Waterproofing is a bonus.
Give it a 0.2 mm thick back cover, custom rom, maybe a sound mod and I guarantee you won't regret buying one!
Coming from my beloved ville, I'm just looking at phones with 2gigs of ram and a quad cpu, and good dev support. its between these 4 phones at the moment
-nexus 4 (mainly for support and xda support)
-s3 i9305 ( better then the s3 as it was an extra gig of ram)
-note 2 (big ass screen)
-Sony xperia z (1080 screen)
Im not the hugest phone gamer, i mainly use my device for Instagram, tumblr, and other networking apps. Iv watched a few reviews on all 4 phones and I'm kinda leaning towards the s3 and the sony ATM. Its just the screen problems (battery drain, and poor viewing angles)

My advice is not to be overly fussy about what you're looking at. By the time you decide, a bunch of new phones will be released and you'll have to start all over again.
IMO all 4 phones have all the goods you need to do what you want. For what you want to do, battery life on all 4 would be sufficient for a whole day.
They are really not all that different unless you go into the tiny details. Honestly, in my experience, being overly focused on the details will make you regret your purchase no matter what you buy.
I understand why iPhone lovers can be much less stressed with their phone choice because there is really no choice for them. I prevents them from feeling bad about making the wrong decision We all know that the iPhone is not the best but it's owners are happy. For android lovers there is a paradox of choice........ which in this case is a bad thing.
So try to look at it a different way.
Since it will be with you everyday, think about which phone matches you as a person, just like when you're choosing clothes, or a car. E.g if your practical or stylish. Reckless or careful etc.
I got the Z because I like style. You may think it may be a bit superficial but the viewing angles are really irrelevant when you think about it. When would you ever need wide viewing angles anyway? It's not like you have a group of 4-5 friends watching a movie on it all the time (if at all). I don't see anyone tilting their phones at an angle to use it. TV, yes, but phone, no. Everything is pretty much on par with the rest of them (except for maybe battery life on the Note 2, but it's too big IMO)
Trust me. Thinking about it this way will allow you to enjoy your phone more and not regret buying it.
If you ask me, I would recommend the XZ, S3, Nexus 4, Note 2 in that order.

It isn't just viewing angles though, the screen is extremely washed out looking with bad contrast.
But view angles matter if, for example, your phone is laying down on your desk and you turn it on to glance at the time, a text message, etc.. It isn\t extreme angles, it is unreadable if you aren't looking at it directly on.
I own a note 2 and this phone, I wish I could have the two make a baby.
I love the design of this phone, but the screen really gets me down :/
Spending that much money, you shouldn't have to "settle"

Any of those will preform better than the z, and will have much nicer screens.
Get the z only if fashion over function is your thought process (you want a nice looking phone, until you turn it on)

well... at first my s4 got 4 hours of screen time (set on low brightness) after a couple of months it was 2,5.. the samsung batteries are very bad..
the screen is poor... yes... but i like it better, the screen is more visible in the sun compared to the s4... i dont really like the oversaturated screen of the s4 anyway... so win win
great design... that is one of the things.. and waterproof... that was actually why i wanted to change... on my s4 i always ended up hitting the screen when touching the damn buttons and it made me angry in the end.
what amazes me.. is that the camera is the same but samsung has made a better firmware.. the camera works very well on s4.. and the z has a very poor camera compared... focus is not great, black dots etc, low light grain and such... EXMOR surely is just a name.. not worth anything imo

Strange must have been a rogue app, I've had my note since it came out and battery life is the same as it was.
You can change to natural mode in screen settings to completely get rid of the oversaturation.
I definitely agree the z's design is amazing. Easily one of the nicest, if not the nicest, looking android phones there is.
What I don't get is why there is macro mode on Samsung but not Sony :/

I'm planning on buying a xperia z, but with all upgrades there's a few things I have to check before I can commit on buying a new phone.
1 - how stable are the cm10.2 builds ? Such as battery performance ?
2 - battery performance on stock firmware ?
Screenshots would be great...

It's a good phone for the price. It's got a sd slot which is always appreciated. Performance is fine and it's got 2gb ram, that will make it last at least 2 years.
The screen is fine for me. Yes, viewing angles aren't great but nothing to worry about, unless you watch very dark movies at night.
Battery is average, standby time is quite good, screen time goes from 2h - 5h depending on what you do.
Haven't tried cm10.2 but Sony stock firmware is quite vanilla.
It all depends on what do you want, how much do you want to spend, etc.

macro mode? in what way?
well... the phone was deep sleeping properly... so i dont know why the battery was that bad... at least now i can say that my phone has used 60% for 2 hours 10 minutes screen time, 1 hour of calls, sms and web usage... with 2 days of standby... i am not unhappy with that.
all stock.. no root or anything.. i have relocked as i need to get the camera fixed... as i have quite a few black dots... when i get it back.. i will root and unlock the bootloader..

I get about 8 hours of screen on time on my note over 2 days or so. Best battery life I've ever had by far.
By macro mode I mean in the camera, you cannot take true macro pics.
I can't unlock bootloader, I have a bell z :/

Well, just one thing to contrast. Even the xperia s has a "numberous" higher contrast, in real life it is another story. The display is quite bright and colours are natural. Contrast is good enough for meh.
