Whew, I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I've searched through the threads hoping to find something that would help me but I keep hitting dead ends. Ok, When I first rooted my Samsung Captivate over 5 months ago I used Odin method. I flashed speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz to my cappy and then I flashed Slim Bean 4.2.2 build 6 and I loved it! Since I liked it so much i flashed Build 7 when it released and then to what Im at now which is Slim Bean 4.3. After I flashed Slim Bean for the first time it changed my kernel from speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz to Semaphore 3.0.91+. Yesterday I decided i wanted to switch up my rom to the Avatar cappy rom. So I got the rom and the gapps. I then loaded in recovery which changed to Semaphore CWM 6.0.3.6 after the flash. I then did factory wipe then cache then delvik cache. I selected the avatar rom to install and it gave me a status 7 error. I searched it and it brought me to the mobile odin fix. So I downloaded Mobile ODIN and when it loads it says "A compatible device was detected, but with an unexpected partition layout". So that was just a kick in the face. I searched what ODIN said but didn't get a good answer or fix. I've also tried to switch to TWRP but when I try it says there are no recoveries. If anyone can help me I would be so grateful. I'm kinda green at this whole rooting and rom flashing but it really intrigues me! Thanks.
PS. Sorry if there is already a thread for this. I didn't see anything.

I don't know anything about TWRP but if you are using CWM, do this....do all your wipes....then go to "Mounts and Storage" click on "Format System".....then flash your rom and gapps and reboot.

I don't think you can go directly from 4.3 to 4.2. You might have to flash kk4 without bootloaders and work you way back up.
Imo, even if there was another way, i'd still take that one to be sure to have a clean install.

Ok thanks I will give that a try! I had that same thought so I tried 4.3 CM10 but no luck. I will try to flash that kernal. I flashed the speedmod kernel the other night but it still acted the same. i will give what you recommended a shot when i get a few minutes. Thanks again!
Hey just checking back in! I'm glad to say that flashing back stock worked flawlessly! I used Odin One Click to go back to Eclair then I just flashed speedmod then [4.2.2]Captivating(Xperia Themed)[RC2]. Everything is running great! Thanks for all the help!

hi.
I'm now stuck at 2.1
I've tried using odin or CWM, but I could NOT get my phone to Froyo.
Flashed using odin or CWM successfully, without any error. But couldn't boot, just stuck at Galaxy S screen.
Flashing back to 2.1 is no problem
How long did you wait on the Galaxy S boot animation?
It will take longer to boot because your phone is rebuilding the dalvic cache..

There wasn't any boot animation. Just a Galaxy S i9000 screen alone.
I left it for more than 5 mins. Still with cold and cheerless screen, nothing changed.
Does it look like this?

I've been flashing my Samsung Vibrant T959 using odin or CWM like thousand times but never seen anything like this.
I have tried JS5, JS7, JP1, JP3 (european)... and some Asian version, but there was no luck
I initially thought there was a problem with odin. But then I flashed back to 2.1 JFD, JM8 , JM9... smoothly. Then got my SGS rooted, CWM flashed, then tried some CWM Froyo and Gingerbread ROM, but all failed to boot .
I almost give up. Is there anybody have any idea?
Last few days i've been trying to install the ICS version on my galaxy note. I asked ppl here and watched more than 1h of videos on youtube but i found nothing. Maybe the instructions are hidden on threads of 500 pages and i couldn't find it, or the information was not complete, idk.
So I also did nothing, better than hardbrick, but i already used the ICS on galaxy nexus and now i'm addicted to that sys.
I'd like to ask if someone here could create a full tutorial, with "how to perfectly install ICS".
Which kernel we should use, which rom is trustable, remember, we are jumping from GB to ICS.
Thank you,
Enio.
PS: I mean we BEG your help lol
Check the links on dr ketans signature for all kinds of rioting and upgrade guides.
Are they updated according to bad kernels and roms?
let me just tell you how i do it....
go to stock GB rom..KL3 would be good....
flash it...root it...
put the rom that you want in your SD card...
go to CWM and wipe data factory reset....wipe cache...wipe dalvid cache...
reboot to recovery...
install the ICS rom...
enjoy....
next time you want to install a new ICS rom...
download Redpilltouch Recovery...flash it...reboot to recovery and do all 3 wipes and install the RoM
If you are on GB and not rooted then easy way is to flash GB Speed mod kernel odin version through PC odin then you will be rooted (of course you will get yellow triangle thats not a problem you can use Triangleaway app from CF) then flash Abyss 4.2 redpill kernel boot into recovery of abyss perform 3 wipes then proceed to flash any custom ICS rom and you are done.
Its already rooted since day 1.

Hello,
Last month I installed my I9000 CM9 using CWM recovery, today I decided to give my brother's phone a go doing the same.
He didn't have CWM recovery, so we had to flash it using Odin, after a few tries we managed to do this and now the phone starts in recovery mode.
In recovery mode, we installed cm9 and gapps with no problems, but when the phone is rebooted - it goes into a boot loop and this comes up each time.

I can go into recovery mode and download mode.
I tried wiping/factory resetting, wiping dalvik cache / fixing permissions - they didnt work.
I cannot figure out what I should do next.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I had the exact same problem before on my i9001. I dont know what causes this problem, but what solved my problem is: do a full wipe. flash latest stock firmware through odin. Then just retry installing cwm (make sure you have the right one).
Tell us if this works or not.
Hit thanks if i helped

Thanks for the Quick reply, I appreciate it. But before trying all you said, I would like some other people to share their views on this.
Maybe there is another (easier) or (less risky) ways of solving it. Is there? Anyone?

Try to wipe data/factory reset, dalvik cache, then reinstall cm9
U just need to flash stock gb firmware first via Odin and let it boot properly because if u don't then there might be some mobile signal issues then root ur device and flash whatever Rom u want..
If my post helped, don't mind hitting THANKS

Hi davidjmorin,
I recently flashed a cm nightly-20130610. It also got aborted when I installed the zip file for the first time, but when I tried it again immediately, it was successful. I don't know the reason behind it. Have you tried flashing it again immediately after it failed? I assume that your device is rooted.

Your device is CDMA or GSM? Usually error 7 come after the device check, so understand if you need a p1 or p1c version.

I fig out the error 7 issue. Now i cant get rom to install. I always get s soft brick.
I have the CDMA version. I am on stock gingerbread 2.3.4 currently. I have tried using hheimdall but cannot get that damn thing to work for the life of me. I have uninstalled drivers about a dozen times and reinstalled. Notihng will get heimdall to work and it seems every way to get jellybean on i800 is with that crap program. Is there an odin file i can use to do this?
Thanks guys

Did you tried to flash a kernel like this via Odin?
This include CMW. After that you can install your 10.1 via CMW.
What is your currently recovery mode? If you have factory recovery mode there isn't be possible to install cyanogenmod. If you have clockwork mode you may install newer version of clockworkmod and install cyanogenmod and gapps what you want. When you install newer version of clockwork mode you may download
HTML:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=p1c
and from this site
HTML:
http://goo.im/gapps
google applications. First you install cm and after finish you install gapps but be carefully when you install cm and gapps. Download gapps for a specific software version.
So, I'll tell the story like it is:
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from At&t. I was on a touchwiz rom, and like most everybody, the lag became unbearable. So, like the other countless times before, I downloaded the Kitkat port for Cyanogenmod. All was well and I transferred it, along with the right gapps onto my phone, went into the recovery and flashed it after wiping user data, cache, and dalvik cache. I booted it and experienced bootloop. I went back into my recovery, CWM at the time, and factory data reset it and rebooted. Bootloop persisted. Baffled, I put re flashed my old touchwiz rom and loaded CM Installer on it, installed through that service and all was well. When it booted I found out that it was an RC build of 4.3, not what I wanted. I then downloaded countess other 4.4 roms like Packman and Illusion as well as Omin, none booted successfully. I then searched on XDA for a bit and found that some older versions of CWM recovery were not compatible. So I downloaded the latest version and flashed through Odin. Tried all 4 of the previously named ROMS again and yet bootloops continue to happen. I've flashed roms before and this has never happened! What am I doing wrong?
Make sure that you are not trying to flash n7100 roms to n7105
I've seen an option like "complete clean up for new rom installation" in PhilZ CWM. I don't know if it is from PhilZ or CWM. Just try that option.
If it's still not booting. Flash an official firmware via ODIN. At the first boot, go into 3e stock recovery, do a factory reset.
This isn't even the right thread.

If you flashed an N7100 ROM onto the AT&T Note 2, then it's pretty much game over. Your best chance would be to install a stock i317/N7105 ROM using ODIN. Even then, the EFS might be wiped and you'll never be able to use cellular services ever again, because the IMEI will be missing.
