To root or not to root - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I've been a good boy since I have had my one well all of 2 days. I am fairly curious about the rooting possibilities and what types of tons are out there to try.
I have always rooted every Android phone straight out of the box but decided not to with this one. I'm enjoying the stock feel Bart life is really good haven't run out of batt in 24 hours YET.
Since I'm new to HTC devices any tips from you guys before I **** up and brick it lol

It's safe to root right away, maybe give it a day or two more to see if it has hardware defects.
This is a hard phone to brick in my opinion.

Upgrading to HTC One!!!

I am FINALLY eligible for my upgrade and am most definitely moving on from my E4GT to the One. I am not getting the S4 because my S2 went through a few problems because of the plastic build quality. But I was on the Sprint website browsing through reviews of the One and a few people were saying they were experiencing dropped calls but were blaming the One and not Sprint because only on the One were calls dropping and not another Sprint device. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just something to ignore? And what about the build quality now? The thread about the gap issue has been quiet for a while so that either means HTC fixed the gaps or people just stopped reporting it. Can anyone who bought the phone recently (around late May and June) confirm that the gap is fixed? Just excited for my One and want to clear things up. Thanks
EDIT: And what about the battery? The battery for my E4GT messed up after about 10 months (battery was swollen and was draining) and had to replace it. What if that happens to the Ones non-removable battery?

Awk it's almost 3am where I am and I didn't even read the whole thing lol
Lets see, i've never had a dropped call with my One, then again I never experienced dropped calls with any of my spring devices, unless I was in terrible coverage. The build quality of the phone is superb and yeah there is a small gap but thats never hurt anybody. And lastly about the battery, i've never had a battery fail on me but with all devices if it does fail you'd just take it to sprint and they'd either give you a new phone or a refurb since it would be covered under the manufacturers warranty. Hope this helps

Lol its almost 4 AM here but yeah thanks it did help! Maybe the people who were having dropped calls just were in spotty coverage. And its good to know that Sprint will be willing to replace it if the battery fails. Thanks!

Also how can I transfer my apps' data from my E4GT to my new HTC without TB? I don't want to root my One right away because of all the people on xda getting their phones bricked. Is there a way I can move the data of my apps from my S2 to the One without root? (My S2 is rooted though)

Bricks??? I've rooted 4 One's and haven't had a single problem. It was the fastest and simplest root of any of the Android devices I owned. HTCdev.com unlock, install recovery, let twrp install superuser or flash Rom, DONE! Maybe 5 minutes.

Bricks are happening in aosp roms. It's all over the place. Stick with sense if you root, and you should be safe.

T fallen of my HTC

I was looking at the back of my device the other day and noticed that the T was missing from my HTC logo.
Any one else having this isssue.
I think I might send it back to HTC as I am really not happy with the build quality of the device

I'd love to be the sales assistant who you brought it back to.
I'd laugh so hard at you that I'd mess my pants. Then I'd make sure the door slammed on your backside on the way out.
What are you talking about. The overall build quality of the HTC one was appalling.
The silver bezels along the bottom have started to come of. The white strip is coming apart from the body.
So overall I would say that it needs to be replaced. Lets put it like this if some one came in to the store with factory problems like that when I'm doing repairs I would replaceit straight away.

And no offence but your reply is just ridiculous. I asked if anyone else was having an issue with it. Not what you would do if your are the sales person.

Need some advice

Hey guys and girls of the xda community
I just wanted some advice on flashing a custom rom if possible?
My doubts and concerns arose when my first HTC one wouldn't charge whatsoever, and since then I'm a little bit sceptical about flashing a custom rom in case it happens again in which case HTC or my network provider won't replace my phone again.
Is the whole "not charging" thing related to hardware or software?
Just wanted some advice before I get back "in the game" for the want of a better phrase
Thanks guys and girls

I've had my One 5 months now and when I got it I vowed to keep it stock.... a week later I was up and running with ARHD and have run every version since then without any charging issues. Don't know if this will help your decision.

I can't say one way or the other to be 100% sure.... wait and see who else reponds
I got my one in March 2013, flashed it to death, including GPe conversion.
Then after many months I got a charge problem.
Phone would charge extremely slowly when screen on, no more than 200 to 300mA.
My first thought was I had caused with error in flash. I had two genuine HTC charger, one new with HTC One and other from One X. Swapping chargers didn't help.
Eventually ordered another genuine HTC charger and cable, result charges at 800 to 900+ mA when screen on.
Problem solved: cost £16 ($25)

I have messed with with roms and jailbreaks a ton and have never had any issues that made me think I broke it. You probably had a hardware issue and were just hypersensitive. There are some software options on a few of the roms to allow quick charging. I bet you 10 to one you had a legit hardware issue or your charging gear was bad. The cords break all the time around the entrance to the phone....iphone android doesnt matter. They all fail to reenforce these areas of the chords. I would start there.

Moving to moto x??

I know that on paper the moto x is just a "mid range" device and i love the htc one in every single way...but sprint and its crappy service is even worst with my one. Idk if is just because is metal but my wifes galaxy s3 get better sigan everywhere we go. I heard motorola is really good with radios and anthenas and to be honest is the only phone on sprint's line up thats not a crappy samsung or an icrap that i would like to get...anyone has any input on this?

Honestly, even with the features on the Moto X, the HTC One is the better phone. If I had my upgrade today instead of two months ago, I would still go with the One. Just my opinion though. Go to a store and try out the Moto X. See which one you like more!

I experience the same issues as you. Wife's s3 holds onto signals better just about everywhere we go, Wi-Fi included.
the customization options for the Moto x had me drooling...until I noticed that was for the AT&T variant only.
I would hold out until 4.3 drops for sure.

My wifi speeds are slower on my One than my S2. It's probably the metal but I don't think the iPhone has this problem. My speed test shows that I have 16 Mbps but the pages load as if I am getting 1 Mbps. Weird. Hopefully this is addressed in the 4.3 update if it's fixable

I dunno about moto being the one who makes good modems/attenas, but I know Samsung is known for having very good ones... I don't know why you wouldn't even consider a GS4 or a Note 3. Hell, if you're gonna switch carries why don't you just keep the ONE??

I don't know why people were calling this a software issue. I think the software issue they were talking about fixing was the blur.
Is the X unlockable? After the photon/atrix fiasco I vowed never to touch another Motorola device.

I switched from the moto from the One today. I switched because of the purple camera issue. 4.3 didn't fix it. I have to say I like it a lot more.
720p screen isn't bad at all, can't really tell. Its thinner than it seems in pictures. Runs really smooth. Cam is alright but havent taken any outdoor pics, just indoor so it may look better outside. The touchless controls and notifications aren't gimmicky, you'll use and like them. Moto assist is pretty good. The only thing I miss is the speakers in front.

Don't know why you would do this without trying to fix your ONE first... It's obviously a hardware issue, not software. You can do all those things on the ONE so technically it is a gimmick. You basically just downgraded.
Its the second one I've had with the issue. Just got tired of it. Doesn't feel like a downgrade at all. Only on a spec sheet comparison. Its not aluminum but built very nice, feels great.

No, actually. Active notifications alone are a god damned good reason to never go back to my One. It's life changing. Touch less controls are fantastic. AOSP + those two things, boot loader unlockable, rom interchangeability with all carrier, equally if not more smooth experience than the one plus better battery life, higher resolution camera, and the phone is repairable. My one will stay in my backpack as a backup phone, thanks.
