Its always subjective but based on the numerous players I've tried over the years Poweramp is the best overall. Neutron has better tweaks but doesn't sound as good no matter what EQ setting you try.

+1 for poweramp. Poweramp is the only music app that doesn't lag while playing FLAC files.
Too bad I can't incorporate viper4android settings into Poweramp.

Guess you meant "can't"? Well it took me a few tries but it's working with Poweramp on my phone with no issues. Try selecting "compatible" if you haven't already done that and uninstall & reinstall the driver. Did the trick for me.

This might seem out of left field but I've been enjoying the free and open source Vanilla Music.
It's quite basic but seems efficient and the interface is very responsive with large libraries. I like how you see a breadcrumb trail of your selectors as you navigate the library (hard to explain until you try it).
No EQ though.
I just use the built in player. In my case that would be Apollo. If you want to use EQ in any music you should install Viper4Android. It works for all Music apps and with android ringtones, notifications and whatnot.
Ive been using the trial version of poweramp which has since expired. i really like it and will probably buy the full version here soon.

The newest Viper doesn't have those options anymore. For the Exhibit you will have to select "High Quality". You will also have to use a 4.2 or 4.4 ROM to ensure compatibility. Make Viper a system app also so it doesn't get killed by low mem (use Titanium Backup, long press the Viper app and select "convert to system app"). Good luck!

Thanks for the reply,
From what I'm hearing are 4.3 roms not supported by the viper for 4.3 on this particular phone?

Viper doesn't work well with 4.3 at all, so avoid the Vanir ROM for this phone.

On an iPhone, you click the headset's button once and music plays/pauses. Double-squeeze and it skips to the next track.
Anyone able to get this to work on the Captivate? If so, what app?
I tried Captivate's default music player app and doubletwist but it can only play/pause when using the headphone button.
not possible
Yes.. it is possible.
The player 3 (aka cubed) does this. Click headphone button to play/pause... double click to skip to next song... and long click to bring the player up to the front. Works great.
(From my Captivate via XDA app)
Most of the 3rd party media players let you do this... I personally use MixZing!
Damn I really miss this. I guess 3rd party music player for me it is.

Got double-squeeze to work on "3" (cubed) app. The interface needs getting used to, but at least it works.
Thanks for the tips!
Saw yesterday while browsing some apps, there is an add on or whatever for the stock music player and headphones that allows skipping, search, etc. Didn't get around to downloading it so can't say how well it works.
Jason
B-tunes also does this. At least the single click to play/pause. Never tried the rest with it. I don't have much time with b-tunes.
Works with Pandora, as well as the Vanilla 2.1 music player (just installed the .apk for it, titanium uninstalled the galaxy s player.
in winamp, single click plays/pauses, double skips to the next track, and long squeeze brings up the winamp player.
The stock music player + stock headphones works like this. I am not sure if itll skip to the next song, but I know it will pause/play
Sorry to revive an old thread!
This is a different device but i have a similar question (cant start new thread yet).
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 and all im trying to do is skip back a track using the supplied earphones. I cant get it to work can someone help?!
You should try clicking three times. The clocks should be done in rapid succession of each other.

Thanks for reply. I have tried that but it just skips forward. Looking around the net it looks like its not possible! Seems crazy! Wonder if it will be a jellybean addition? Have found a program that you can use to program buttons but still seems like a crazy feature not to be integrated!
In my experience the click to go back is usually just one more than the clocks to go forward. Please try again. Also what brand headphones are you using?

Hi guys and girls,
My question is exactly what the title says, can you force beats audio to always be on for what your ringtone/ notification tones.
I've had a search on here but couldn't find any answers.
Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it is applied if beats is already enabled... I can hear the difference in my ringtones when i turn beats on/off.

I think that's a completely different issue. The difference between beats on and off is not as drastic as when you set a song as a ringtone and when you play it from the music player. I noticed how crappy it is too, but don't know why it's like that. I actually found this thread by doing a search for a fix, but no help so far.
Maybe dragging and dropping music files from your computer via USB to their respective locations would work. I'm sure the problem is in the mp3 to ringtone format conversion process.

Well if you can make a lightweight app that plays a silent sound in the background at all times (enabling beats 24/7) then it should work. That's the only way I've found to get it working.
It will cause battery drain though....how much exactly I don't know.

It will make the phone not go into deep sleep... This is a lot of battery drain i think...
There must be a trigger to enable beats with every sound.... But i dont know where to find it.
If we make the apk responsable ( dont know wich maybe prizm.apk?) A user app. Would this change something?
Every other app downloaded is using beats and these are all user apps.
How can we change the system apps into user apps?

System apps use beats too. I moved a few apps to system to see if any difference but no.
My guess though would be to try and mod the audio policy.conf
Or maybe mod the htcmusicenhancer.apk

Opening the apk file with a zip extractor didnt gave me the result i would have. Coudnt find something that had to do with beats also.

Definitely looking for this feature as well. Even for me, who's not really good at distinguishing music quality notice how different the music plays as ringtone and in Music Player with Beats On.
I've noticed this before too. I also noticed that, on maximum volume, the phone plays ringtones louder than music. I think the phone makes ringtones sound worse (through reducing bass) so it can play the ringtone louder than it would play music, and not have distortion.
I don't think there will be a solution for this...
I have modified my custom ringtone a bit so it sounds nicer then before. So I can live with it.

Well since Beats is just and equalizer app, how can we edit the mp3 manually to fit the same options as Beats use?
I'm currently running slimbean 4.2.2, love it, but had to install a few things like video player. I noticed since it did not have a audio eq feature added in, is there any app to give general eq settings?
Try searching equalizer on play store. First app result.

I second that one. Using it on every ROM I've run on my phone, and use Titanium Backup to remove any EQ apps the ROM might have (Equalizer complains about others being in the system).
Currently on AOIP 3 June 13 release, have run it on last Rootbox 4.1 build, Various Slimbean builds (4.1 and 4.2) as well as on the original Gingerbread that came on the phone.

I put that on but it never showed audio controls, maybe there is something I can't figure out how to disable.
To set the controls manually you need to go into equalizer, make sure you turn it on. Tap the little power icon to check.

Okay here some advice
1st I manually updated to 4.3 and Now I regret it .
word of advice stay with 4.2 till it works with all your Apps
4.3 Crashes way too many apps for my Liking
My Top apps don't work at all
(1) Hola!
(2) MX Player
(3) Crome Beta
(4) Franco kernel
(5) Vlc
I am thinking of going back to 4.2 cause of this
If want your apps to work Flawless then 4.3 is not for you Stick with 4.2
It works like clock work on Everything
What apps are crashing for you? As for me, only VLC Player and Franco kernel won't work

I´m waiting for CM10.2 and franco kernel that fully works and also NexusLoud mod. Can´t be without that mod.

VLC works fine for me. So does pandora, chrome beta.
Snapchat.
I was on the official stock 4.3 image, non rooted. Watching recieved snapchat videos would cause the phone to reboot every now and then. While charging with a USB cable, it would happen at least once every 10 minutes. It happened while the phone wasn't charging too, but not as often. Back on 4.2.2 Rasbeanjelly now until better kernels and custom ROMS come out for 4.3. Oh and I did a clean flash. Backed everything up and wiped everything, including the internal storage.
I just want to add that if you are using jawbone up band, that will not sync after 4.3 either. I have gone back to 4.2 for now

Do you have Viper installed as a normal app or did you push to /system/app? Only reason I ask is back on my HD & M it was hit or miss when I just installed it. Once i actually pushed it to /system/app is worked like a charm.
