Hi guys. I've been running CM 10.2 nightlies lately but have come away wanting a bit more customization options. I really like the look and added features of CarbonRom so I flashed the 10/09 nightly last night. There were a couple of settings I'm used to having in CM that either I couldn't find or aren't in Carbon.
1) Is there a "Use external Storage" option?
2) Is there a way to activate PIE controls from more than one screen edge? I prefer to have mine activate from the left, right, and bottom edges. I could get the + signs to pop up when holding down PIE but sliding to them didn't seem to be doing anything.
I hope these aren't terribly obvious things I just overlooked...
In the meantime, I'm back to CM. Thanks!
Why you didnt made a post at the carbon thread instead so many can help you better?
As far for the pie you can only have it in one place.
As for the external storage im not sure there

If you mean the thread in the Development forum it's because I'm still a junior member and can't post there. If there's another thread, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of it. This should really be in Q&A. Thinking back, I'm not sure what made me post here.
That's unfortunate about PIE. I really like being able to pull it up from those three edges.
Thanks
PIE movement to different edges of the screen works for me, but you can't have multiple PIEs. If you mean swap external storage and internal storage, there is a CWM flashable script that does it for you. (As in your external SD becomes your main storage with which all data is stored, like apps and music and such). But the data you currently have on your different storages won't swap so just do it coming from a clean flash. Uncheck "Prevent Rotation" in PIE settings and it will move properly depending on how your screen is rotated though.

Is that script still working for 4.3 @Neighbor808. Is rje the one from youngun I believe the user name is? Sorry

Actually, I don't think so, but I think there are some build.prop lines you can manually input to achieve it?

I'm not asking for multiple PIEs. I just want to be able to activate PIE from more than one screen edge. This makes it where I can easily operate my phone right or left handed.
I figured there wre probably some scripts around to accomplish the same thing as use external storage. I just assumed it was probably a setting as well.
Oh that, didn't you drag and hold on the "+" for a second or two until it closed the pie controls... That usually changes where you control pie from...?

If you want multiple PIE activation points, download and install LMT. That's basically, what PIE is one part of LMT, anyways. The installed LMT apk will override the PIE that's on carbon rom. Remember to turn on "Activate TouchServce" and "Autostart TouchService"
I am running Carbon, and have PIE enabled for left and right side of the screen. Love being able to hide the navbar and still have instant access to my buttons

Usually, the only difference is that they're built by different people. They might have small little local changes, but all in all your not really missing out on flashing on over the other.

Vanir - Android 7.1.2
vanir_mako_7.1.071917.zip
First Vanir with Android 7, which finally managed to run me.
This ROM uses the kernel lineage.
In addition, it is very underdeveloped, because it does not work properly debugging, so you can not connect through adb and install applications.
There is also no possibility of a normal apk installation (message: Package installer has stopped).
I checked and I can confirm that the navigation buttons work very well in Vanir ROM, for Nexus 4 with an inactive touch pad at the bottom of the screen.
I can add a ROM to the compatibility list.

Thank you for your attention. My opinion was premature.
I installed ROM again (the same file without re-downloading) and adb works normally.
Installation through
Settings -> Storage -> Explore
also works as it should.
Probably the first installation was damaged.
Unfortunately, I have to retract my opinion regarding the operation of navigation buttons on the inactive bottom of the touch screen.
Previously I tested on my second N4, where the inactive touch screen I have in the middle of the screen.
Hi
One of the quirks that I have with my new HTC one is that notifications always come in short form and I have to use 2 finger swipe to expand it.
AFAIR on my Galaxy S2, if new mail comes the gmail notification was in expanded form and I can easily archive or reply the mail.
Is there any way to force notification always to show up in expanded form
Regards
My one comes today. That sort of defeats the purpose, no? Darn htc.
yup thats sad

It's because only the top notification is expanded by default in jb. Power saver is in your way and not likely ever to change. I'm running viper rom and it can be disabled in viper controls. Works fine. See if manage apps has power saver listed. You might be able to disable notifications for it there.

I doubt it. That's just how jb works. It would get pretty cluttered. I mean it might be possible idk. But I've never seen such a thing. I highly recommend viper Rom. It's smooth as heck and you won't miss anything from stock. I'm running it with tl's wolfpack kernel at 2ghz with sweep2wake and logo2menu (makes htc logo into menu button). Only thing is the latest viper is on the new base from htc as of last night so custom kernels won't work right until source its released so they can be updated. I'm waiting for that before I update viper. I'm sure you can dl the older version if you wanted to run a custom kernel. It's 1.0.4

Any jb Rom. The power saver notification is what prevents it because it's first. Viper allows you to disable it. If you don't have it at the top of your notifications, do you have a quick settings type app or any other notification pinned to the top?

Hello, this is just a question, I'm not bashing/hating here. I see many people running CM10.1, and the main article in the news on Android portals across the internet is the new update - CM10.1.1
I have a ROM based on CM10.1 on my Nexus S and honestly I see no much difference in comparison with the stock one I got on my N7. So, what is in your opinion, the best reason to get CM10.1.1?

The lack of options compared to AOKP keeps me away. Tablet mode and Nav/status bar transparencies are essential on the N7.
CM is more of a stockish feel with the latest security fixes and a few limited additional options and theme support.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I agree with the above. CM just does not offer enough options compared to aokp to sway me over. At the same time, high memory and high graphic games always work better for me on stock. Ergo, im a multirom junkie. Best of all worlds with a simple reboot.

Exactly. It's enhanced stock Android, but more importantly it's enhanced stock Android with the support, wide compatibility, and "whole-ness" of stock. I've convinced many a friend running TouchWiz, Sense, and even stock Android to switch to CM or a CM-based ROM.

Being that it's a smaller tablet, I don't agree that tablet mode is totally necessary. Is it nice to have? Definitely. I also wouldn't call transparencies "essential" in any sense.

The lack of either isn't a device killer, but those are 2 really nice features that I require. After running both, you wonder why they aren't stock in the first place. And I'd say that BECAUSE of the smaller tablet (7") it is EVEN MORE important to save desktop space.
Of course you could also use Extended Desktop w/ PIE controls, but the only PIE I like is Blackberry Cobbler.
Then there are people like me, I dont care CM or AOKP & what not...
Just need: speed + 110% smoothness without a stutter on all non gaming tasks + amazing batt life + USB Audio DAC support...
Also, still waiting for bit-perfect and hardware direct mode for USB Audio / DAC from kernel and music playback app developers... which probably will never come. Something like ASIO/WASAPI? Ring a bell? Guess not...
Audiophile 'minority'...meh.

In all fairness (and much to my surprise), the Nexus 7 is the most challenging device to find organized, consolidated and relevant info for. Those of us whom count this as our first Nexus device have always been preached upon the virtue of stock/AOSP/CM vs (insert OEM UI) as though the three are synonymous, with CM being the vehicle that brings stock to, again, (insert OEM UI) devices. Even the Sprint-variant galaxy sII threads contain more up-to-date FAQ/tutorial stickies.
Maybe do a better job of consolidating "out there" before being "that" guy who has nothing to contribute beyond a condescending one-liner?
To the OP, the official CM website does an ok job at explaining their 'official' releases, but not a whole lot about how the experience differs from 'official' Vanilla/Nexus/Play Edition releases.
Also, Linaro --who works with literally every company not named Nvidia on source development-- seems to be a BFD to tegra3...

I always thought a forum was place where people could come and get help, or opinions from fellow members.
If the OP is asking for your opinion, then it's a possibility he/she values what you have to say, rather than blogs that have been written by others.

OP, it's a totally legit question, glad you asked. Because you asked, I read this thread and learned something. Perhaps the question has been asked too many times, but whatevs....no electrons or photons were harmed in the making of this thread. Frankly, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem, my vote says this thread is mostly part of the solution. I'm just in the process of deciding what I will do on my N7 after I unlock the bootloader and root it, now I have to search/understand the process of dual booting so I can try AOKP while enjoying stock, which I very much do (glad I waited for a 32). It also reinforced my desire to put CM back on my GSII.

Spoonfeeding huh? As somebody said already, this forum is a place to go ask questions and to help get a better understanding of what your tablet/phone is capable of.
To my knowledge there is nothing wrong w/ that as I have been doing this since '06 and continue to learn something new every time I read these forums. Cm 10.1 is a great rom w stock options, with the flexibility of giving you some customization. Surely give it a whirl

The only thing I noticed was the baseband version was different (I'm guessing something with the modem) and so lost LTE on T-Mobile. Went into 4636 settings to make sure LTE/gsm was selected but it only liked edge. Tried reflashing the stock radio and it will didn't change the baseband. Flashed my backup rom and it had the right baseband version and LTE was back. Any idea as to what I need to do to get back LTE?

I believe that is an issue with the latest Play Store update. Although it hasn't happened on my RAZR, it does happen on my N7.

No way to turn off charge light right now but somber73 is working on it.

How did you manage to build this? I checked the site and it only said how to build for supported devices (I don't believe RAZR HD is supported).
And if you built from sources, it's not a port.

Would love to see this ROM updated to 4.3. My favorite 4.2.2 ROM by far.

If anyone could help/create a mod .zip flashable threw CWM for people like me who have a captivate that has a broken power button, (that randomly presses itself and causes all kind of trouble), that will disable the power button inside of CWM/ROM's that would be amazing.
I would gladly donate at my next paycheck.
Already tried the galaxy remapper app, all of them, they don't work... Sadly...

Have you already started using volume wake and a screen off app then? You may just want to open the case and remove the outer plastic button instead. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the key mapping is in the kernel and that's a bit more involved than just pulling out a small piece if rubber/plastic.

Yeah, MIUI has the built in lock power and reboot which is awesome. I'm also using the volume to wake.
And yes, I should have mentioned I have removed the power button, and it still pushes itself... Kinds bites, that's why I would need a script to remove the power buttons command. But eh, you're probably right, it'd be too difficult.

Replacing the power button is a better option and a permanent fix. Unfortunately, it's worth it only in case you can DIY.
Yeah I can do it me self, I fix phones and stuffs for money on the side.
Problem is with the board though I think. Cause removing the button didn't help either.
So I figured if I completely disable the button that would be better.

It's not the plastic button. The switch is the problem.
Yes, that's what I meant by board >…< that's why I figured I need a mod.

You tried a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol? I did that to mine .. Every time I did a battery pull it would come on by it self..

It's included in options in almost every Custom ROM.

That's not true - my Captivate has SlimBean and I don't see the option for it, and OmniROM doesn't support it either.

I was using 4.2.2-based SlimBean for a long time and Volume Rocker Wake option was definitely there. SuperNexus based ROMs don't include VRW, don't know about OmniROM. Ask about it in OmniROM thread. All Cyanogen-based ROMs have it (HellyBean, Avatar, CyanAOSP, Gamerz, Captivating, etc), also PAC-ROM, SlimBean, C-RoM, Xylon, SaltyBean.
Here is the Slim features diagram:
