If i buy a chromecast will i be able to go to say movie4k.to with my phone and stream it to my tv using google chrome? i mean i know i can stream netflix or youtube but i want to watch online streaming movies from different websites. the away i watch online movies now is by hooking up a laptop thru hdmi to my 60 inch tv and it works. let me know. thanks
you can Tab Cast. just install this add-on to your Chrome browser:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-cast/boadgeojelhgndaghljhdicfkmllpafd
however this Tab Cast feature is in beta. you may notice a few hiccups. like say video stuttering. or even audio/video out of sync issues.
You can do that but android chrome does not support tab cast, only the pc chrome.
I have done it numerous times, depending on your computer and the strength of your wifi, it can play without any hiccups.
Sometimes I did get lags but only when I was running many processes on my pc

With chrome cast, are you able to stream videos from you PC using network tv websites such as abc.com or nbc.com? What about regular hulu, not Hulu plus.does it work with the network iphone apps such as the abc app or nbc app or watchespn?
Thanks!
for apps, the app itself has to add the ability to cast anything.
whereas using your desktop/laptop, all you need is Chrome and the Google Cast extension. then you can cast any tab you want. this feature is still in beta though.
Yes, most of that stuff works when you cast from Chrome running on your desktop. But it requires Chrome running on the desktop to re-encode and re-transmit the video stream continuously to your Chromecast rather than handing the stream over as happens with the native apps like Youtube and Netflix. That puts a heavy load on your desktop system, and all but the highest performing desktop systems will produce some frame dropping and video stuttering on the Chromecast. I have an overclocked quad-core i5-3570K running at 4.3 GHz, and it misses some frames and jerks a little even on the best streams. My old Core2 Duo dual-core E8400 running at 2.29 GHz can't even manage to stream 480p for more than a few seconds of jerky frames before it loses sync.
My Core 2 Duo doesn't have that problem at all with regular Hulu.
I don't know why, the C2D is far below their minimum hardware requirements so I have some sort of fluke.
if i buy chromecast, can i watch online streming movies from alluc or any related streaming websites? that's the main reason i want one but if it doesn't then i'll skip buying it.
thanks guys.
I tried playing a movie on that site and it was half success.
You need the app vget, which can grab the links from embedded videos, such as putlocker or socketshare.
After that you serve the file through dlna or stream.
My device has trouble casting some media, that others can, they are working on a fix.
I was able to do all this but avia said the file was not compatible.
I have used this method for other sites, you just have to make sure it's compatible.
The most popular one here is showbox,

If you are watching on your PC, you should be able to cast the tab with chrome browser.
Today I was trying to watch a live YouTube stream from my phone. I got the message that live streams were not permitted on my Chromecast.
I then tried casting the same stream from my desktop. It worked. To verify that I wasn't just casting a chrome tab, I closed all of the chrome windows. The stream kept working.
I also tried casting the stream from chrome beta for android. I didn't get an error, but the casting didn't work. I just got a black screen on the phone and a YouTube screen on the TV.
Is there a way around this restriction? Can I cast a live feed from my android phone to my Chromecast?
Thanks,
Ken F

Being that live streams aren't supposed to work, either you got lucky, or they're working on it.
Not much you can do but wait to see if YouTube updates its info and/or capabilities.
Live streams work for me from my laptop but not from my phone as well. I don't think it's a mistake, I just don't think the mobile app has added that feature yet.
As I understand it the chromecast doesnt render the video but connects to youtube and plays a specially renderd version for the chrome cast, I guess this is not available live. When you cast from a pc the pc renders the video for you.
YouTube added this support on the Website just recently.....
Coming to an Android App near you at some point!

Private Videos too!

Looks like the next Android and iOS will remove the live limitation to casting. They may be beta testing it by only offering it on the website for the moment.
I think u should remove it, maybe it is beta?
I have all my movie content downloaded using tTorrent to my phone and play them with DicePlayer or VLC for Android. How well will Chromecast be to play these movies on the TV using Diceplayer or VLC?
You can't use those apps. You need all cast, avia or local cast. Also Chromecast basically only supports mp4's. It plays pretty well but keep in mind this isn't what the Chromecast was designed for. It was meant to cast videos directly from the internet. This will give you significant battery drain over casting from the web directly.

When I or my girl leave the main TV room to use the restroom or feed the dog, etc, is there a method or a 3rd party app that will allow the casted app (Netflix or HBOGo mostly) to still play on the phone while also casting to the TV? This would avoid having to pause the show we're watching. FWIW, screen mirroring from the Chromecast app while watching Netflix locally on the phone... is way too laggy to be a viable solution.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Mirroring the screen is the only option I know of. You either cast or have to switching it from cast to on the phone.

The other main intention of streaming via CC, besides the big screen, was to let the phone idle during playback to save battery. But you can still stream thru the phone to tv with all the disadvantages.
