Full screen Casting not working on Chrome Beta and Dev versions - Google Chromecast

Just tried to cast the whole screen today from chrome dev version and it doesn't work. It used to work some time ago. Tried lots of thing and then figured that this feature is not working on beta or dev versions of chrome. Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks.

Is there a solution to the browser black screen in 4.4?

Has anyone found a work around for the black browser screen in the 4.4 based roms? I see it in the evervolv and cyanogen 11 builds. I love 99% of kitkat on the touchpad, but with 2 step verification I can't do a clean install. HTML email is all black too.
Thanks to all the devs for their continued work on our orphaned touchpads. Your work is well appreciated.
If you have two android devices, you can use titanmium to backup and restores app from one device to the other device

I to am having this exact issue, are you also having mediaprovider crash in the background? if not it may be unrelated. also are you using legacy display or media? are you getting overlay log spam? and if you are using legacy repos which ones?
Sorry if the questions seem random, but they may help me track down where this issue lies.
Also do you remember when you first experienced this issue?
Kits the current kernel. It will be fixed. Nothing as a user you can do. Let the developers have more time.

The latest opera browser works for me.:good:
I had not used Android since 2.2. Last night finally I decided to flash my TP. The first thing I tried after flashing was web browsing and saw the black screen. I thought I did something wrong and almost restarted the flashing process. Then I installed Chrome and it works fine.
Applies to Milaq's CM11 KK 4.4.2 and Evervolv/ASOP 4.4 update for the TouchPad (tenderloin). As others have reported the devs are still working updating 3.6 kernel. Reportedly the kernel changes will resolve the black box issue in default browser api.
So we need to live with the 2.6.35 kernel or a while longer. Until then apps utilizing default browser api in KitKat on the Touchpad are problematic. At least Chrome, Firefox and Opera are working.
Sorry for digging up an old thread but I am having this issue and not sure what to do. I reset my Google password. Since I have 2 step auth, it forces me through the browser to do the Google Signin, however the default browser has black screen. I have installed Chrome on the device, which works, but no matter what I do, I cannot make the signin go through Chrome, it always goes through the default browser with the black screen. So at the moment, I can't use my Google account with my TouchPad
Does anyone have a work around for this?
I am running the latest Evervolv nightly ev_tenderloin-nightly-2014.04.10.zip which was installed via the EV updater.

Chrome loads blank websites often?

Chrome fails to load sites regularly. It seems to load, the status bar completes but the page remains blank. The fix is easy enough, switching to a new tab and retrying the webpage/Google search loads the page properly. It's annoying though. Has anyone else experienced this and/or know how to fix it permanently?
Thanks
For me fails to load at first then refresh and works fine. Are you tried uninstall/clear cache/reinstall?

Yeah I have thanks, and refresh continues to fall to load it.
Just my opinion.. Chrome is a terrible browser. There's many superior ones on the play store.
Tho it could be the sites themselves as well.

That was weird I check this thread an instant before I got the email about a reply and there wasn't one. Anyway...
Thanks for the reply, you're probably right. Unfortunately I like the passwords and bookmarks syncing too much.
It's a Chrome bug for sure though. I think something similar used to happen with my Nexus 7 (2013). I don't even really no why I posted it here, it really should be posted on Google's Product Forums.

I am running the 4.4.2 GPE Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/fxz-xt1053-xt1060-google-play-edition-4-t2715488) on my VZW Dev X. I've got Xposed with Gravity Box installed as well. Similar stuff used to happen with my Nexus 7 like I said, although I also have GB [KK] installed on that too. And it hasn't been a problem on the N7 recently.

Cyanogen Mod and screen casting

This may be a known issue, but up until yesterday I thought it was only me.
Screen casting on any cyanogen ROM ends immediately after connection. Seems to happen regardless of cm ROM (cm12, cm11, resurrection, liquid) or device (moto x, bionic, kindle fire).
Is there a workaround?

He is refering to the Cast Screen feature.

crashtheface,
Thank you! This has been driving me nuts the last few days.
I have a Sprint SGS3 (SPH-L710) running CM11 (cm-11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-d2lte).
This one did not work for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hardware-hacking/chromecast/experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
I just got this one to work, but it is very laggy. It take 6 to 7 seconds to refresh the screen each time I switch apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobzapp.screenstream
I am really surprised that CM11 does not have screen mirroring to ChromeCast already built in.
I suspect is may be hardware related.
Thx...

All my devices run cast screen fine with AOSP stock 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 roms. However when going to say SlimKat, CM, or other 3rd party roms it fails.

You don't need it anymore. Google updated chromecast app. Any devices running 4.4.2 should have mirroring enabled by default. I didn't try it on my nook yet, but I think it'll work without this app.
I could only cast for about half a sec. than it would immediately disconnect on both 4.3 and 4.4 PAC-Rom but by doing the above I was able get screen cast to work.
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using XDA Free mobile app
Based on my recent experience, it wasn't working for me on CloudyG3 1.2 (didn't try 2.0 yet - it was connecting and immediately disconnecting, with few tries results into dark screen on Chromecast), however on Darkobas PSD (ParanoidSabreDroid) Lollipop ROM (AOSPA rom) working without any issue and really very fast. Are you sure you aren't refering to basic cast from App?
I'm talking about Cast Screen, the beta feature which DIRECTLY MIRRORS YOUR HANDSET SCREEN to your chromecast.
You may be confused as there are literally no reports or success stories of CAST SCREEN and not Google Cast.
They are two completely different things we are discussing screen mirroring in this thread.

just making sure friend. there has been confusing from time to time
what exactly was your method? I see two cast icons in your notifications area.
Also can you link me to your rom page on xda? I would like to contact the devs who did the build to see if they had manually changed anything to allow for cast screen.
I'm excited to go back to CM if I can get Cast screen working on my devices with Cyanogenmod.

Hulu Plus not working on Nexus 6

I upgraded from my nexus 5 recently and put hulu + back on this device like I've done for years now. Whenever I try to play a video with the service, it plays the opening ad(s), gets to the point where the video I requested should play and nothing happens. Looking carefully, the 10 second rewind button just flashes on and off but the video never plays. I've done Google searches all morning and all I found is a Facebook page showing that this is a known bug but no one has offered a fix. I've uninstalled, cleared data, used the older version from Dec but no dice. I already emailed Hulu like 3 days ago and no response. I'm running stock but decryption is off. Any ideas?

Nope, not even an automated message saying that they got the email. I would hate to think that the reason mine isn't working is because I am no longer encrypted.

In case any of you were having issues with Hulu Plus (like I was), I found a fix for it.
Problem:
Hulu Plus will play the intro and first ad of a video, then stops and eventually crashes the app. This was happening on the 7.4 version of the ROM and was not tested on newer versions.
Solution:
By searching XDA for the issue, I found this post, which fixed the issue with me.
If you use a root explorer, or adb you can mount /system rw
Then delete vendor/lib/liboemcrypto.so
Reboot and DRM will work again.
I was able to do this using the file explorer in TWRP.
Hope this helps!

Thank you very much. This fixed it for me. Does the OS recreate the file when the first program needs it again? Why does this happen in the first place?

I honestly don't know. I assume it's a file having to do with DRM. That's why it allows you to play ads and not the DRM-protected shows. The original post I referenced does not go into too much details about what it does and why it wasn't working. Since I have recent nandroid backups of my ROM, I figured I'd give it a shot. Thankfully it worked without any issues (so far, at least).

Resolved - Nexus 4 Video playback issue: Android System Webview

I am adding a new thread because this is a very peculiar issue and i still feel something is really wrong in my N4 settings but i have seen some similar or even worse cases with some old gen nexus devices and i have tried some workarounds which don't seem to work so far.
Here is the problem description:
I cant play any videos in Facebook or Twitter official apps.
Facebook says "Error occurred while trying to play this video"
Twitter end up with a black screen and shows nothing( some 1 out of 10 times it acts as audio only with black screen again)
Strange thing is I cant play fb or twitter videos even in chrome browser in my mobile.
Youtube or other players work fine (Vimeo etc.)
Near about everything else works. Youtube app or browser playback is fine with no issues. Mx player runs fine too.
Some background about my device settings:
Android 5.1.1 stock, not rooted
Its using AwesomePlayer instead of NuPlayer in dev options.
There was one time when i was not able to play any video in my device because nuplayer was selected once by mistake and changing to AwesomePlayer helped.
But after that issue around 6 months back, i have done complete factory reset and everything was working fine for 3-4 months, i started getting this issue in last two months or so.
I read some similar issues in Nexus 7 2013 with Android Lollipop but not exactly this.
Is anyone else is facing or had ever faced anything like this?
Any suggestions on how to get rid of this? Don't want to factory reset again.
I have tried all usual things like clearing cache, reinstalling those apps but i think this issue is something else as i cant even play those videos in browser too.
Again i enabled the dev options last week and thought changing to NuPlayer might help but that also didnt help. All others settings are default settings.
PS: Intentionally not posting as Q&A as i believe some other older gen nexus devices are facing similar issues with new updates so this might fit well as discussion thread.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note its solved: Reason was the older version of Android System Webview app. Updated it and this issue went away. Hope this helps others facing similar issue.
I think it's something about google webview apk...do you have this app??

What Android System Webview APK do you have installed? (This is essentially the applet which allows 3rd Party apps to access the web). The latest version, 45.0.2454.37 came out yesterday. While I have had this same issue in the past with older Webview versions, yesterdays seems to be working just fine. Go to the Play Store and update to the latest version and see if that resolves.
Yes i have this, In my device it says the version is 44.0.2403.90 and it says its up to date. So maybe the update is not out yet for my region. It makes sense that this is responsible for it as i have auto update on and some new version might be causing this.
What do you guys suggest should i uninstall/reinstall this. Or maybe get an older version?
Thanks for your help.
Btw, Facebook video playback issue affects other device too, not only the Nexus 4. It happened on my aunt's phone.
Plus it's not a Lollipop issue, my aunt's phone is still on 4.2.2, and I had my Nexus 4 at 4.4.4.

A solution for another possible N4 video playback issue
I came across this thread searching for a solution for for my video playback issue, with my N4 unable to play videos occasionally.
I eventually narrowed down the problem to firefox, and setting
Code:
media.android-media.codec.enabled=false
in about:config finally solved the issue I had for years.
