[Q] What is this notification icon? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Every once in a while, since going to 4.3, I get this notification icon, with nothing corresponding in the pull-down. Not only that, but the icon seems to be flickering. Whenever I try to investigate what might be causing it, it goes away.
Honestly, it's just more bothersome than anything else, I just wish I knew what it was!

I think you mean GPS NFC WIFI, but I think hes talking about the one to the far left. I believe that one comes up when you have too many notifications to show all the icons.

Indeed

I apologize for not being more specific in my OP, I see how there was confusion (as the NFC icon is a new icon for 4.3, and so many people are confused by it), and I did indeed mean the one to the far left that looks like a very angular "C". I don't believe that it is a placeholder for too many notifications, because I have noticed it when I have a clean dropdown.

Had a nasty feeling that was going to be answer. Rather like some of the stuff Samsung shoves on their phones & you cannot remove either.
It can't be uninstalled but it can be disabled

Solution: root your phone. Remove.
Just use a different launcher. Only problem is that you won't have access to sense widgets.

Why would you want to get rid of blinkfeed? That things looks so beautiful and way useful. I still don't understand why anybody wants to get rid of it. I think it's great.

I wouldn't go as far as removing/uninstalling Blinkfeed, but I'm curious to what extend this new central piece of Sense can be configured/modified. I just played around with Blinkfeed a couple of minutes in a phone shop. You can configure the sources that are shown on these tiles (like calendar, facebook, twitter, etc) but ...
Can I control how often each tile (is tile the correct word?) is updated? The more frequent the tiles are updated, the more battery is used and more network traffic is generated.
Can I control the placement of the tiles?
Can I control how many tiles are shown? E.g. I would like only a calendar tile and no social network tile or news feed tile.
Regards,
Stefan

It was one of the features I wasn't too keen on but it's turned out to be good for a giggle when I've got nothing else to play with. I scrolled 2 left of my homescreen yesterday to see the headline 'Study warns that sex in space is dangerous.'
I couldn't agree more. For starters the instant you unzip the fly on your suit your dead! Probably not what they were getting at but it was worth a chuckle.

You didn't need to be rooted to remove blinkfeed. Check out Q12 of the HTC One FAQ and you'll see a couple of ways to be able to get rid of it.
The other method, which requires rooting, is to install a custom ROM. I believe some ROMs may still have blinkfeed included though so you'll need to read the first post (at least) of the ROM threads to find out whether it has it or not

It's a nice feature to have, but give us the option to remove/disable it. I hate it when companies force stuff on you.
I see it's there, if I like it I keep it and if I don't I remove it, simple as that. Don't force me to use it.

i thought quick reply for messaging was a CM feature?
I'm wondering if perhaps we can expect to see a system dump from the "Google Edition" release, or perhaps an unofficial release of the STABLE CM 10.1; seeing as how the Sprint variant of the HTC One, received a nightly, as of yesterday.
I'm just hopeful that we'll have a more fully-functional version of Android 4.2.2.

Maybe for messaging, but Notification actions in general:
Expandable, actionable notifications.
Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Just swipe down from the top of the screen to see all your notifications in one place. Late for a meeting or missed a call? Take action in an instant directly from the notifications shade.

Some of these don't apply, and some have been implemented by HTC already, but anyway for reference.

Ya seems to me to be pointless to buy the nexus experience One if you are a current owner and can just flash a "dump"
I just don't know if I can do without Zoe and the IR blaster. I have tortured so many peeps with the IR blaster and the TV/cable box at their houses or hotels it has been priceless!!!

I never really cared for LS widgets on AOSP. But if you really want, you will be able to delete the HTC lockscreen and use the AOSP one that has the widgets. So it's not like they are completely gone.

Yep. Just got it on mine also. Haven't seen anything different so far.
I just got my notice. I opted to remind me later til I knew more about it. Wonder what the changer are????
Does it break root?
I really don't know I wasn't root. Sorry
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
One thing it DOESN'T do is fix the Hangouts video restriction to WiFi.
It broke root for me. Guess i'm gonna have to wait for a new root method now. I seen OTA update and just jumped on it without thinking.
Since this is the first thread on the subject, lets make it an organized one with useful info please so people don't make 1000 threads about it making it difficult for those of us who haven't updated yet to stay on top of it.
What we've learned so far:
It (probably) breaks root
not much else as far as improvements/changes
Just got mine also. Wonder if it fixes the double reboot issue where the phone boots and reboots right away when trying to sync clock.
I'm assuming this is the audio fixes that the other variants got. Could be wrong though.
First thing I noticed was the color of the stock keyboard. It is now a blueish blackish color.

I noticed the keyboard change as well. One thing I noticed (although this might be my mind playing tricks on me) is the phone seems to lock/unlock quicker. I noticed a bit of lag sometimes when hitting the power button to lock, and it seems to have lessened somewhat. Again, purely speculation, although I know a lot of people had complained about it on various mediums.
I think we post the same thing. I notice some changes. Like the keyboard and slightly better performance. Please see my thread and let me know if you find something more

I think its the same update Sprint got as well. There is another thread in Q&A that points to a URL with changes for Sprint. New keyboard is because they added new handwriting mode. Other fixes mentioned are call audio improvements. Nothing else.
I use Google keyboard and my call audio has been fine. I'm keeping M9 rooted unless I hear something meatier.
I responded on the first thread about the update and I called AT&T to get any release notes. They told me all it says is general performance enhancements.

[Q] Data Usage Icon Won't Go Away ***HELP***

So I've been loving this device so far but the only complaint I have is that every time my phone needs to use mobile data, receive or place a phone call, or send or receive a text message, the "Data usage is running" icon will appear for literally less than a split second and it's annoying the hell out of me. I've managed to record a slow motion video on my S4 in order to capture a screen shot of the icon appearing in my notification bar which I've attached below. It looks like I'm able to stop it from constantly appearing but the darn thing isn't around long enough for me to click on it...ANY help? I have tried to go into my application manager and disable it that way but no dice. Also, not rooted and completely stock.
The text on the icon reads "Data usage is running - Touch for more information or to stop ...."
If you go to settings, wireless & networks, data usage. Do you have a checkmark next to alert me about data usage. Is yes, remove it.
Sent from my lair.
Yeah, unfortuantely I had already tried that and it didn't work... Have you experienced the same issue? It's gotten to the point where I'll deliberately send my device a text message from another phone and try to tap the icon in my pull down but it just disappears so damn quick. I know it isn't really that big of a deal but I'm sure I can't be the only one on here who nit picks their phone.

Nope, totally stock. I've debated taking it in to Sprint but I know all they'll do is perform a soft reset (which I've done) and hand me back the phone.

Yes, I am at work currently. I will give you a quick guide tonight when I get home.
After installing the Xposed framework, I installed the Notify Clean Module.

After that is running and ready, you need to trigger the notification so it can log it. Once that is done it will be listed as below.

I suspect it would as it happens with more than just messaging. Also happens when ending a call.

Maybe he's in Nevada. Area 51.
I want to say it only started happening a few days ago, but I think it was before I upgraded to 5.1.1. Definitely never happened with Hangouts, and it's only happened with Messaging. Sometimes it'll be small and in the corner, sometimes big and centered, but I believe it always pulses. I don't have any crazy apps, haven't even rooted since going to 5.1.1 yet. Have been using Nova for a while, shouldn't be that. I'm just perplexed. I like it though, but it's not consistent.
