Hey all,
I recently got my Butterfly S and I'm absolutely loving this phone. I think HTC nails it when it comes to UI design but there is two areas that I'm having some issues. When trying to play 3d games like Real Racing 3, Riptide GP2 and Asphalt 7(For some reason 8 isn't supported on this device) I see quite a bit of slow down. I'm wondering if there is a issue on my end or if anyone else is having similar problems? I know the SD600 and Adreno 320 should be more than capable of running these games smoothly.
My second is when it comes to playing back mkv files. I'm using MK player as my main video playback app and I'm getting a lot of slowdown and freezing. Could any recommend a method to fix this or a different player app that could alleviate this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I don't really know what's wrong... RR3 doesn't even run in 1080p unless you do the rotation trick I mentioned in the gaming thread. Blitz Brigade also crashes on me.
I believe there are some optimization issues but it's strange cuz FIFA 14 and Fast and Furious 6 seem to run fine.

Me too! I'm currently playing GTA:Vice City on my Butterfly S and it lags a lot! My girlfriend's older Galaxy Note 2 seems to be able to play it quite well. So I'm thinking there is something inside which do not support heavy graphic games well.
None the less, I do love my Butterfly S and never regretted switching to this from my iPhone 4S.
lagging sucks

Mine kinda lags too, i thought only my phone had this problem but i can see many others are having the same problem too. It should be the app itself then. Scrolling, web browsing has no problem. Mine lags in real racing 3, despicable me, n even on camera 360 app. I hope htc fixes all the problem soon.

I don't play a TON of games on my D4 but I have yet to find one that is not compatible. Everything from Angry Birds on the low end the Deadspace on the higher end have all worked fine for me.
Droid 4 - AOKP JB
I've only ever tried to play Raging Thunder on the D4. It crashes after the splash screen loads.

Asphalt 7 is the only game that did seem a bit slow to me (like 15 fps or so in the peak), but still enjoyable Haven't had any compatibility issue, but then again Google Play offers you only apps compatible with your device
Hint: if it's too slow, restart the phone. And don't install too many background-running apps.

I just got the phone yesterday!
Really liking the droid 4.. been able to play a lot of HQ games smoothly including NFS MW, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour and Asphalt 7!
Running ICS 4.0.4 Stock!

Exactly. And the emulators that allow keyboard mapping. <3
There is a few stuff that I did not find compatible. Though pretty much all the main stuff is supported. Most stuff runs well, NSF MW does. Though some games the swamp and beach buggy racers from the creators of Riptide GP are slow, atleast for me. But Riptide GP works great.
Anyone else having this problem with the One? 2d games run fine but every 5-10 seconds they suddenly get choppy for a second and then go back to full frame rate. I noticed this is mostly happening on games that I guess are iOS ports like angry birds and cut the rope. Is it just because they games aren't optimized properly for quad core processors or is there something going on with my One?
I had heard that this was a bit of an issue on some 2D games, but I haven't come across it yet. Been playing loads of Sonic CD and it runs like butter. My guess is that a future update will iron out these few kinks. The rest of the phone doesn't seem to stutter so it's obviously not a hardware/processor issue.
I had this problem with Bad Roads. Contacted the dev and he fixed the issue very quickly.
Yes, it must be the game which is not optimised for One's cpu.

hi
im looking at the nook hd+ as i love the screen, design and price
but i will be gaming a lot and was just wondering how the performance is on the most demanding game Real Racing 3
if anyone has tried this game on the nook HD+ or even just the nook hd please reply with a summary of performance
also have you had any problems with unsupported games.
thanks and have a nice day
The Nook HD+ is really not designed for 3D gaming. It has definite problems running this specific game.

I have not tried real racing yet but
Beach buggy blitz on the other hand runs VERY smoothly.
yes

*I can also vouch for Beach Buggy, as well as Air Wings, Dead Trigger, Dungeon Hunter 4, and Contract Killer 2.
Asphalt 8, you can even adjust to high quality graphics, but I personally find the lens flare distracting.
I went through the extreme annoyance of registering here (I freaking HATE that Capcha crap. I am a human and I can't see what the heck 90 percent of them say) to tell you that yes, Real Racing 3 looks and plays fine. Not sure what the other person has experienced, but I have had my nook hd+ since July and have had the game since day 1.
Funny part is, I just stopped playing to go to bed right before I read this. Been battling a friend off and on all day.
The only game I want that I can't download on my unrooted device is INJUSTICE. I currently play about 12 games, including Asphalt 8, Heroes of Destiny, Six Guns, and others.
Hope this helps. I have been coming here sporadically for years to find answers to my tech questions, and hope that I can return the favor for someone else.
ha ha I know what you mean about the captcha...after you post a few times though it goes away.
I had not tried real racing 3 yet but thought it should do well on the Nook HD+.
It does great with all the 3D games and demos I've tried before.
I tried installing it a few days ago.
Unfortunately it runs poorly. This will primarily be due to the fact that the OMAP 4470 utilised has only a single core GPU.
Rooted HD+
Been running RR3 for about a fortnight now, no problems whatsoever, well apart from 1.6GB of download in the last two weeks, just as well these things are not on the cellular network! Great game works well on the HD+
RR3 works really well. The framerate isn't that high but absolutely no lag/freeze
I think it might help to specify if you're using stock rom, or a CM rom, maybe performance is different for each. FWIW Asphalt 8 runs fine, at highest graphic setting, using stock rom
ALL of you should just use rr3 graphics app and have better framerate and enjoy the game more while not complaining about it so much. lol -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lt.hitex.rr3graphics&hl=en
high = smooth gameplay.
The problem with rr3 is that the graphical settings are forced and for this chip @ 1080p its just one setting too much. Use that app to lower it to where you like and its all better.
Asphalt 8 would probably melt our tablets. It is FAR more busy than Asphalt 7 and that was slow on the HD+. A8 is one of the best racers I have played though (S4 and Excite 7.7).

Asphalt 8 works better than asphalt 7. It isn't the smoothest but on low-very low graphics settings it is completely playable. Not nearly as bad as asphalt 7. I also spoke with one of the Gameloft people who works on the android version of the game and told him about how because this is playing at full 1080p the CPU has trouble keeping up with it and they are going to work on adding a 720p graphics option to the game.

Where is the setting for resolution? I can't find it in the app. Only low, medium, high, etc.

So I noticed a stutter while playing games, particularly when having to touch the screen. Such as flappy bird. Every time the screen it touched, it stutters/skips.
Doesn't do this anywhere else on the phone. Smooth as butter. Any suggestions?
Yeah, i noticed the same and wondering why not many people complaining. Did you find a solution? As you said, this stuttering is in thr games with touch contols like flappybird or dont touch the spikes, etc.its really annoying. I love these games and i love my new moto x. Would be disappointed to return it for this reason.
Let me know if sonebody knows the reason, and more importantly, how to fix it.
Cheers

No solution. Received a replacement device due to the back separating, same thing. I assume its on the games side at this point.

Hmm. It could be that these games are not "optimized" for moto x but I'm having hard time understanding the reason. And why its just us complaining? I'll try and get the answer or return the phone for some other android phone. Pity!
That's pretty weird, mine doesn't stutter at all. I haven't tried Flappy Birds yet but Swing Copters is fine and so is Don't Touch The Spikes. I also play a lot of graphically intensive games like Nova 3 and MC5 and they are all perfect too. I'll give Flappy Birds a try in a little bit but I expect it to be just fine.

Well i just dl dont touch the spikes. Im not sure how that game played so i dont know if theres the stutter present. Strange...
Have the stutter as well. Hadn't played Flappy Bird since on my 2013 X. Tried it and it seems like the stutter/skip happens only after having not touched the screen for a second or two. If quickly and repeatedly touching the screen, there is no skip... only after a pause long enough for the phone to not be expecting another. Hoping Lollipop's ART runtime by default will fix this and other issues with scrolling smoothness.
No issues here
I just downloaded flappy bird 3d just to test it out. The game runs and plays absolutely as smooth as butter. Not a single skipped frame.
Does anybody else experience some pretty bad lag in some games on their N6?
I've only tried a couple games, but one of my favorites, "Whale Trail Frenzy" lags something fierce when you get into frenzy mode. I did a google search and saw some people a couple months back having trouble with madden too, and some suggested it might be an issue of the app not being compatible with Lollipop but I tried it on my M8 with lollipop and runs just fine.
Does anyone else still have this issue and if so have you found a fix?

One day I had some lags in GT Racing 2, however, they disappeared presumably with a reboot.

I just wiped the cache and rebooted (as you have to to wipe) and am going to try again now.
[edit] Still have noticeable lag. Reboot, wipe cache didn't help. Can somebody else download Whale Trail Frenzy and play a couple games and see if you experience this slowdown too? All of my other games seem to be working okay. Maybe its just the game clashing with this specific phone.
If you are a big gamer I word seriously recommend getting a phone with a lower resolution ... The high resolution definitely impacts game performance on the G3, note 4, and this phone.

I can feel some framedrops on modern combat 5 but very less on modern combat 4. I'm a heavy gamer, yeah it annoys me a lot. Some games like NOVA 3 makes the phone to shut down forcefully cause of the RAM leaking issue. I'm pretty sure that the bad gaming performance is due to the RAM leaking issue
