Hi guys
A question,
Can flash a custom kernel via FTF file(without flashboot and LB), or i will get a hardbrick like the OLD 2010 sony devices.
And other question, with a TA backup from another xperia SP device(that can unlock bootloader or is unlocked), can use this and flash it to my phone.
Thanks for answers.

Hey there!
I'm about to buy a Xperia Z but I do have a few questions first:
1. Whats the difference between locked and unlocked bootloaders. I mean if I root my Z with locked bootloaders will I be able to flash every Custom Rom or are there Roms which will only be working with unlocked bootloaders?
2. What exactly can the Flashtool do? Is it a bit like ODIN for Galaxy Devices? Does the Z have a Download mode like the Galaxy S3 so I can flash a Stock firmware anytime I want?
Thanks for ur answers.
1- custom roms for locked bootloader are few and limited.
You need unlocked BL to flash custom.kernels,cm,aopk roms....
2-Yes flashtool is same as odin but with many more features, like rooting, unlocking the BL,flashing stock roms.....

Locked BL you can still root but cannot flash custom ROMs (but I'm not 100% sure on that see post above by gm007)
Unlocking the BL you lose DRM keys FOREVER and BE2 won't work anymore (some claim they can still make BE2 work)
FlashtTool can easily flash STOCK ROMs without rooting or unlocking BL.

Before yesterday I had a locked BL and I had a custom rom, you just can't install a custom Kernel when your BootLoader is locked.
Unlocking your BL will cause your drm keys to be lost that's true, but you can save the partition your keys are stored on and you can re-flash the partition to restore the DRM keys. (Did that yesterday) It can be tricky though, Gm007 knows everything about it

I was playing around with 4.3 last night and found a solution
- Flash the .67 firmware via flashtool
- Root 4.2 as you would have
- Backup the TA partition and Unlock your bootloader to relock the boot loader and avoid losing any DRM keys later
- Using flashtool flash the new firmware .569 (4.3)
- Then flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel
- Boot 4.3 and power down
- Using the recovery installed with the kernel flash a superSU.zip from somewhere around here.
- Reboot and you now should have root
- Reflash ONLY the .569 kernel from the FTF
- Power on and Restore your TA partition to relock your boot loader and return everything back to normal with root

You can't backup the TA after you unlock the bootloader!
It's the unlocking that kills the DRM keys.

Hi, i'm facing problem that i didn't make any backup of TA Partition. since unlocking the bootloader lost the bravia engine, is there any way for me to get it back (the bravia engine)? i noticed that the bravia still work for youtube's video, but not for picture.
thanks before

Totally agree with kingvortex
Do you think there is way to root 4.3 on locked boot loader without sticky thread or at least thread on the top list ?
No way right now to root 4.3 locked and when it will be found you will find a lot of propaganda & at least sticky thread for this in The Developer section .
So please Keep Calm and wait..

I don't get it ... so you are saying that you unlocked your unlockable bootloader? And you managed to root the latest update? That would be cool! But if I am not mistaken there's absolutely no way of unlocking a bootloader that is not allowed to be unlocked by the device. Anyways that would be cool if the devs give us this nice gift! But then again I am unaware that you can unlock the 4.3 as yet.

Its your choice
If you want to backup your ta you need to downgrade
If you are not bothered, just unlock

if losing Warranty is not a problem to You then Yes, it's the quickest way. Doing this you will be unable to do a Backup TA so your DRM keys will be lost forever with the warranty.
i just need confirm unlock bootloader directly from 4.3 version is safe for all sony feature (x-reality, track ID, and camera ). i used nexus before thats why xperia system sencurity is strange with me
thanks your reply

I unlocked on 4.3 and Camera, Track ID working. X-Reality turn On and Off but I never, even when I was stock, saw any difference. So if you want unlock on 4.3 (FW .136) it's ok.
Hi guys. I have recently signed up here and am currently a XDA and Android noob. But i do have some experience of rooting. (I often watch one of my relative root and do stuff with odin but only for Samsung). I currently own a SONY Xperia ZR C5502. It has android 4.4.4 KitKat.
And i have no idea how to root it or load it's boot screen. I'm trying to install CyanogenMod or an android lollipop ROM to it.
If anyone is kind enough to give me some advice or help I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks
Ahmed
Hi Hardwelling, Welcome to ZR Forums
i was a samsung user one day so i know what you feel now
For Sony Devices, to flash ".ftf" ROMs, flash kernels..etc , you should use Flashtool
It's the same as ODIN.
First
For Rooting your device you've several ways :
1. Root the device without unlocking bootloader (you'll not be able to flash any other ROM not based on Sony Stock one)
2. Root the device with unlocking the bootlader. (you'll lose your DRM Keys , however there are ways to Back them up, search xda for further information about DRM keys)
for both of them, you may search in the forums and you'll get a lot of methods (towelroot, Pre-rooted ROMS..etc)
Second
Installing Custom Recovery.. you may find plenty of them here, but i suggest the best one NUT's Dual Recovery,it works for both Locked Bootloaders and Unlocked Bootloaders.. Here you'll find all recoveries for Xperia Devices, make sure to choose the one beginning with "ZR", and go the "Installer" way, much faster
Third
Flashing custom ROM, it depends on what you have [LB] or [UB]..
Locked Bootloader Devices can't run CyanogenMod or AOSP ROMs..etc, as it only allow Sony signed kernels.
Unlocked Bootloader Devices allow you to run any kind of ROMS even Stock ones, but you'll lose some features of the Stock one as you lose your DRM keys
For myself.. i'm running Rooted LB Stock 4.4.4, and previously i was using this ROM
Use Flashtool to unlock the bootloader using SONY's official way..go to sony website and follow the steps there
Install the NUT's dual recovery using the installer..
Flash the pre rooted AOSP build

I would not recommend this approach as you will lose your drm keys.
Just follow one off many rooting guides wich you find on this forum.
After that take a backup of your TA partition with TA-Backup tool wich also can be found in this forum.
After this you can safely unlock the bootloader.
