Hello!
I have an Xperia T that I'm fond of. I've been wanting to add a custom rom for a while, and recently spent a couple of nights (it's all very new to me!) trying, and finally succeeding, in installing Cyanogenmod 10.1.3. I went with CM as from the research I did it seemed to be the most stable.
I noticed that you can't overclock the CM kernel. I guess my question is twofold: is there a kernel that can be used in conjunction with 10.1.3 that can be overclocked? And if not, do you have suggestions of roms/kernels that work well together, or should I just leave CM 10.1.3 on there?
Thanks for reading.
you want a suggestion? no need to overclock that phone.
there is no overclocking kernel in cm, as far as i know. i think this is an already some times asked question in posts around cm threads...
Thanks for getting back to me! With that in mind, would you recommend CM 10.1.3 over another rom/overcooked kernel combination? I guess I'm just trying to discover what will give me the best performance on the LT30p.

A little background. First post hear so I'm a noob. Sorry if the post is long.
After reading on the Net that the Galaxy S won't be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update I finally took the plunge and rooted my phone. Thanks to all for the hard work both on the forums and on the ROMS. Most of my issues have been resolved thanks to stuff I have found on this forum.
I've bought the following to support the various developers - Rom Manager, Titanium backup & Root Explorer.
Started with Cyanogenmod 7 (CM7) (Gingerbread) & CF-Root. (really like all the tweaks & settings with this ROM).
Issue with CM7
When receiving calls I would occasionally not hear the caller. Putting them on hold & back would resolve. I did eventually find a thread to download a fix but not sure if it worked as I flashed ICS later that day.
I also nearly killed my phone by trying to restore my stock backup from CM7 & after a nervous few hours managed to restore a stock rom with a repartition to fix the issue. Then flashed CF-Root & CM7 again.
Tried MIUI which wasn't for me so went back to CM7 (to used to the way stock & cm work)
After reading some people appear to still have this issue with Teamhacksungs CM9 I decided to try Team ICSSGS RC4.1 and while I miss the CM settings I really do like this ROM.
I have done a lot of reading & some things have just gotten me confused.
Issues with Team ICSSGS:
First attempt of flashing got me in a bootloop.
Second attempt could not connect to the Vodacom Network here in South Africa - my IMEI number was trashed.
Fortunately I was able to restore the IMEI number from a backup I made. Is it worth flashing again due to this issue?
Camera would not work until a third reboot.
When people call the phone only appears to ring once and then goes silent?
Battery was really bad but after several reboots it appears to have stabilised & doing well.
So the thing I don't really get at this point are the kernels. They seem to have gotten me really confused & I've read a lot of threads - maybe to many. I have decided on Devils kernel but there seem to be lot's of conflicts on which one & I don't really understand a lot of the stuff.
I've read this thread:
[Kernel][ICS] Devil 1.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445214:rolleyes, almost the entire Team ICSSGS Galaxy thread in the developer section & another thread explaining all the kernel governors which I just don't seem to get. To much for my noob brain at this point.
I've downloaded the following:
Devil_1.0_BFS.zip
Devil_1.0_CFS.zip
Devil_14.2_BLN_VC.zip
Devil_14.2_LED_VC.zip
Devil_15.1_BLN.zip
Devil_15.1VC_BLN.zip
Devil_15.1VC_LED2.zip
Devil_15_LED2.zip
For Devil 1 I don't get the bfs vs cfs (I did read it in the thread but don't get what it means in real terms). If flashing this which one?
I've also read people are liking Devil 14.2 LED & that it has the least lag but read it is good as the GPU is overclocked - what does this mean in terms of life of the phone & battery life also don't get the difference between BLN & LED.
Others have said 15 is better than 1 but not as good as 14 as the GPU is not overclocked.
The main thing I am wondering is if I want to flash a devil kernel which one is going to be best in terms of a combo between stability, battery life & performance with the least negative impact on the device?
Hi All. Maybe I over posted just trying to get the differences between all devil kernels & which will work best on my galaxy s running Team ICSSGS RC4.1. I've read most of the stuff but it seems pretty technical & I'm trying get the difference in terms of how they work on the phone. Thanks again.
Devil_1.0_BFS.zip
Devil_1.0_CFS.zip
Devil_14.2_BLN_VC.zip
Devil_14.2_LED_VC.zip
Devil_15.1_BLN.zip
Devil_15.1VC_BLN.zip
Devil_15.1VC_LED2.zip
Devil_15_LED2.zip
I'm currently trying out Devil_14.2_LED_VC.zip on my phone. I find the stock kernel a bit laggy when going to the apps drawer. I've tried semaphore 0.7.5 but for some reason, my battery was flat out for less than 8 hours on idle (while sleeping). As for the other versions, I haven't tried them but I might try Devil_1.0_BFS.zip once I finished clocking the battery on 14.2.
Btw my battery from 100% -> 0% laster for 10hrs on stock ICSSGS RC 4.1 kernel. I was contantly streaming music from winamp with brightness on auto.
thanks, just read nearly entire team icssgs thread again and looks like that is the one to try. May also try 15.1 led2. Still trying to figure out what they all mean.

I installed Devil 14.2_LED2 and it's fine i read it's better 15.1 and v1.0
14.2 has the gpu OC'd to 250mhz while 15.1 has stock gpu speed of 200mhz. That's why 14.2 can have a noticable speed increase over 15.1 (and 1.0).
why don't you try RC4.2 + Devil 14.2 LED kernel, works like a charm
Thanks for suggestions. I have now tried devil 15.1 & 14.2. Currently on semaphore 0.8.1. For now this working well for me. Seems to have similar battery life & performance on heavy use as 14.2 for my needs but less drain when not using. This is just my impression with no overclocking and no real setting adjustments. Will try devil 1.1 at some point but this stuff is a little addictive so going to try sticking with one for at least a week
With devil 1.1 do you recommend bfs or cfs?

Guys,
Since ive got my HTC Desire ive been changing roms etc.. but only the CM based roms.
Did it all by just reading, and complete failure ( sometimes )
I also did this on my Gnote and its running perfectly.
Running CM9 on 4.0.4 with CM based kernel.
But its a time to change, im getting pretty bored with it.
Ive seen nice features on the ParanoiAndroid Rom and would like to install it.
Readed alot of threads but cant figure out what the best way is to do it.
Can someone help me so that i wont mess my phone
CM9 has a safe kernel. so you could just follow the instruction in the OP.. just the usual wipes and install rom and gapps
Hi all,
I am looking for a good and stable ROM for my GT-I9001. Yes, the list of available ROMs has been provided as a sticky thread in the forum, and a list of available ROMs is also provided in the Wiki for the phone too, but there are so many ROMs... it's very difficult to decide, specially when I am a newbie.
Also, am a total newbie in this area. I have just been using the phone as it is, with the stock ROM for over an year. I haven't even rooted the phone yet. But now, am willing to root the phone, and even thinking about installing a custom ROM.
So, please suggest some good and stable ROM(s) for the phone, preferably with latest Android, like JellyBean, or even ICS. Stability and efficiency is the key for me, because I am not too keen on changing ROMs regularly, unless I being to enjoy experimenting and playing around with the phone .
I was happy with the stock ROM until now, but recently, I encountered a problem with the Play Store, and thinking it was a problem with the phone, I reset it to factory settings. Now, am unable to upgrade the firmware through Kies because of some unknown error. Someone on this forum suggested flashing via Odin... so, I thought that if I have to flash it via Odin, and get dirty, then why not root it, and try some custom ROMs.
Am a bit nervous with all these processes as they are new to me, and also, if my phone gets bricked, I can't afford a new one . Still, atleast the rooting process looks easy to me. Rest, I will and try.
I am fairly experienced with computers and Windows, but Android and phones are a new area for me. But, I can pick up easily, just have to try. Can play around.
Any suggestions for a good stable ROM will be appreciated . Thanks.
No reply yet. Can other fellow I9001 users help me out there please? Share their experience with different ROMs, or just direct me towards a nice stable one.
Looking for the same...
Hi.
I'm also looking for same answers. Haven't tried any ROM yet but looking for a fast and stable one. Hoping for replies soon.
The CM10 port by ivendor (here) is very stable and feature-complete as far as I'm aware (except video-out, which doesn't exist on custom roms).
There is also a CM10.1 port by Xistance (here) of which there are a number of positive comments on the forums lately. However, this isn't something I've tried myself and I actually wouldn't really recommend it as very stable (there are a few things still missing and/or not working properly, such as bluetooth).
Next worth mentioning is arco's CM9 (here) which is pretty much rock solid (RC3 that is) but suffers from SOD (screen of death) issues since RC4 so I don't recommend RC4, RC5 or RC6. Although I very much enjoyed using CM9 for months I would recommend CM10 now though, it's equally stable and performs better (in my experience).
There are also a number of ROMs that are based on another ROM (usually one of those I already mentioned). They're usually comparable to their "unmodified" variant so you can just experiment with that.
Those are the ones I'd personally recommend but everyone has their own opinion on this kind of thing.
Thanks a lot for your reply Marshian, much appreciated . I think I will go for CM10. Will keep an eye on development of CM10.1.
Rooted my phone today.. yippie .
Will now read about how to flash ROMs, and then go for CM10.
Hi, I'm practically new to this, last week was the first time I flashed a custom rom on my phone, CM 10.1.3 RC2, and now I'm just curious about Kernel, first of all I'm not realy sure what is it, should I change it or something to make my phone run smoother? Can you recommend me one then?
I know those questions may have been stupid for you guys but thanks anyway
You should probably read an FAQ for Android to understand what a Kernel is and what it does.
For now just stay with the standard CM kernel and read about what you can do with your new custom ROM.
And do nandroid backups (if you don't know what that means, search and read).
I know that those kind of answers are not likely those you want to get, but you will learn so much more if you read everything you can find.
I rarely post any questions here because I read everything and try to sort things out for myself

Q&A for [KERNEL] Semaphore JB 3.3.0 / KK 3.4.3
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Can i use 's' version with CM11 rom?
forgive me a question: what are the advantages of this version(the one with linare 4.9.3) over the standard semaphore?
Q&A
Is this kernel updated?

Which kernel version do you mean?
JB development is finished, so 3.3.0 is final. Follow the main thread to get KK kernel updated with the latest Linaro toolchain. Stratosk has dropped the support, but iyahman is doing that.

Dear Community.
On my I9000 I'm running Cyanogen 10.2.1 bundled with Semaphore kernel 3.3.0. AFAIK for this kernel there has been implemented script to OC it up to 1300Mhz. The scale ends on 1200Mhz. Am I missing something?
BUMP.

The i9000's old heart beats best without doping.
My every OC attempt has ended in SOD.
Many people report success, but probably minimal CPU frequence should also be raised to 200 MHz. It will probably heat the CPU and drain a lot more battery. IDK if performance will get much better.

I believe appropriate voltage will stabilize the thing.
Honestly. I would not OC it if I would not have serious performance issues. Frankly, I'am seeking for some workaround as finding the main cause is unsucessful so far.
Accidentally got on this post. Will give a try reproducing the setup.

SlimBean 4.3.1 with stock Semaphore kernel is blasting fast without OC. It can easily be flashed over CM10.2, so consider maybe to create a nandroid backup and give it at least a try. Also battery life is better, it gets even a lot better for those who use TRDS mode.
If you don't like it, you can easily flash Sema 3.3.0, reboot recovery and restore your backup.

Hey.
Thanks for the advise. Will likely give it a try. The main reason I still stick with this device is sound quality.. Shall I expect due to Semaphore Voodoo sound readiness? What is the stock music player app?
Hi again.
I took the advise and flashed slim bean. Have to admit that it was as good hint. Now phone works much closer to what I have experienced in the past.
Yet it's performance is still far from 'blasting'. The system has serious lags and slowndowns when launching heavier apps e.g. Camera, tunein, Google maps.
Is this JB nature that older devices choke on higher load or am I doing something wrong?
problem with voodoo sound
Hello. This is my first post in this forum, so, i'm sorry if there is something wrong.
I'm using CM 10.2 with semaphore kernel 3.3.0, which (i think) supports voodoo sound. But i can't install voodoo sound application, i don't find it in google play, it seems the app doesn't exist. I don't know if there is something wrong with the app (i used it weeks ago with other roms -5.1- without problems) or with my phone/firmware. I don't find no other app from supercurio in the google appstore.
I've searched in the forums but I haven't found any useful information.
If someone knows the reason of the problem and can tell it to me, i'll be grateful.
Have a nice day.
P.S.: I'm sorry for my english, i'm not used to use it.
I thought it could be because a not multidpi appstore, so I fixed it, but the problem was still there. Finally I found the application in another place and could install it.
