i honestly just dont see a need to flash roms anymore. android has just has gotten that good. i can see some people needing root which we have. but flashing roms is long gone for atleast me. just tired of it i guess.

1 word: Nandroid
I went through 3 different Note 3s because of various quality control issues and the ability to make a nandroid would have been amazing since I had to setup everything 4 times after rooting 2 different phones. Other than that, I don't really care too much about custom roms, unless they offer some benefit in addition to the Xposed framework modules and debloating I did.

The first N3 kept an Edge data signal most of the time and would never lock onto and LTE signal for more than 10 seconds. The second one, and about 6 others I looked at in the store, had issues with the home button getting stuck under the glass. It was just during regular use, not trying to force it. If I tapped on the button off-center, it would get stuck under the glass, and constantly make the task manager pop up. The manager tried to call my bluff until she repeated the same when using the phone normally, instead of holding it horizontally and letting the weight of the phone release the button each time. I felt like it was back in the Hot Wheels days of searching for Treasure Hunts. I got one that doesn't seem to have any issues so far, aside from my E-mail FC, but I'll figure that out.

Good to know. I'm not too fond of the home button swimming around. I'm having mic issues. I have to hold it to my mouth for the phone to register.

Bottom line is there is no custom recovery and from what I understand there won't be unless the boot loader gets unlocked.

You can get n900a-cwm-recovery.tar from: http://d-h.st/mVG
However, bootloader of N900A is locked. You cannot flash it with Odin.
What we expect is Unlock bootloader.

Should I exchange it?

Like alot of people said in other posts I am experiencing not being able to get into recovery mode via the 3 button combo.when it comes to rooting I was wondering how important it was. I'm new to android and unless I'm not mistaken, there are other methods to rooting.however I'm more concerned if something goes wrong, I want to make sure I can get things back to normal and not be bricked. Also, when the froyo update comes out I'm going to want to revert to stock. To people who are experienced at rooting, how necessary is it. If it is I will return it, but I'm worried the one I will get will have gps issues and so far mine has been lucky enough to have gps work almost flawlessly.

i personally dont know how necessary it is but, all i know is you can side load apps like roms so u can play the emulators they have such as sega genesis and what not. also you will be able to get the apps we normally cant get in the android market such as: super mario wallpaper, tethering, and many other 3rd party apps that are available that we cannot get. i dont know all of them. but comming from a jailbroken iphone jailbreaking the captivate is way more difficult. android is not as user friendly when it comes to the technical geek stuff. my captivate is a week old now
but i think you should wait on the froyo then wait to see if they come out with a one click root method for 2.2, which they probally will. i was close to rooting mine but it seems a little bothersome to convert it back to stock. so i would just hold off till froyo
Yea, I'm just thinking I should than exchange my cappy for one that will go into recovery mode via the button combo.I'm not very experienced in rooting but from what I understand if you can't you have more of a chance in bricking the phone. Not sure though.

I didnt brick my phone while root. I accidentally pulled the battery when my phone was rebooting from removing the lag fix.
As of right now, there are many root methods provided and all of them work flawlessly (provided you follow directions).

Nope, not worth s shot, if you can't boot into recovery, how do you plan to apply the root, you need recovery mode for this. Unless you plan to use ADB everytime. Eventually your phone will brick without being able to use the key combo method. To me it isn't worth taking the chance.

get a new one. i just replaced mine for a new one. took me going to 3 different stores trying a total of 9 captivates to find one that the 3 buttons worked. you will NEED that if you get bricked. i would HIGHLY suggest not flashing anything unless you do it. if you have any other questions feel free to pm me, i can give you my speech i gave.
best of luck sir!

i stood there, told me the store manager i would like to keep trying the other phones. since a sim card is not needed for the phone to boot to recovery it will not void their "warrenty pre sim card"

Yea I guess I should exchange it. Hopefully it won't take abunch of phones to get one that will, and if it does, hopefully they will let me test til I get it right. Anyone know if this is just something samsung just started on later date phones that were made to stop people from trying to root? I'm not sure how phone companies view phone rooting.

Yes, definitely exchange your phone. Also, I would test this function in store until you get one that works. From what I have read, it seems like there was a bunch of phone made during the week of 8-10-2010 thru about 8-14-2010 that had a hardware defect. There's another thread in the boards somewhere that people who can't use 3 button recovery post their build dates, and all so far fell into that build week.
I wouldn't even begin to mod my phone if I didn't have access to recovery or download mode by using buttons. If you rely on adb you are out of luck if you soft brick it.
Of course I'm going to try to test in store. How do I check the news manufacturing date?

So ive now returned that faulty cappy, and have one that will goto into recovery mode. Although, the gps definitely, seems as if it won't even get a fix. Oh well I guess if the problem is software ill wait for the update. Also it could be me, but it definitely seems more laggy then before, especially the back button.

Upgrading to HTC One!!!

I am FINALLY eligible for my upgrade and am most definitely moving on from my E4GT to the One. I am not getting the S4 because my S2 went through a few problems because of the plastic build quality. But I was on the Sprint website browsing through reviews of the One and a few people were saying they were experiencing dropped calls but were blaming the One and not Sprint because only on the One were calls dropping and not another Sprint device. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just something to ignore? And what about the build quality now? The thread about the gap issue has been quiet for a while so that either means HTC fixed the gaps or people just stopped reporting it. Can anyone who bought the phone recently (around late May and June) confirm that the gap is fixed? Just excited for my One and want to clear things up. Thanks
EDIT: And what about the battery? The battery for my E4GT messed up after about 10 months (battery was swollen and was draining) and had to replace it. What if that happens to the Ones non-removable battery?

Awk it's almost 3am where I am and I didn't even read the whole thing lol
Lets see, i've never had a dropped call with my One, then again I never experienced dropped calls with any of my spring devices, unless I was in terrible coverage. The build quality of the phone is superb and yeah there is a small gap but thats never hurt anybody. And lastly about the battery, i've never had a battery fail on me but with all devices if it does fail you'd just take it to sprint and they'd either give you a new phone or a refurb since it would be covered under the manufacturers warranty. Hope this helps

My thoughts on new update

I just got the new update an hour ago and wanted to share my thoughts because I know there's still a lot of people wondering what it fixes. So far I've noticed:
- Phone in general feels much much quicker.
- gallery no longer lags.
- switching from wifi to 4g o longer lags the phone
- camera is improved. Still slight shutter delay but I'm thinking it must jus be how it works since it's taking such high quality pics.
-updating apps in the play store no longer makes the phone lag.
-one of my favorite things is the home button response speed is really fast now(yes svoice home button is disabled) I noticed the home button used to lag sometimes. Much faster now.
- I noticed some buttons in the camera and gallery are different and have some extras. Haven't had much of a look yet.
-it appears all my apps are on the SD card now.
I can't comment on battery life or anything else yet but I'll keep an eye on it tonight.

While reading your posts earlier I was hoping you weren't applying Sprint updates to a Verizon phone.
But to stay on topic thanks for the feedback. I'm still in process of updating.

Nope. Took me like 2 hours to.download the MDL tar to go to stock unrooted then flashed update zip.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
For me, I still see and feel the occasional lag. But then, my reference point was the rooted MDL with the ktoonsez kernel and the Crossbreeder mod. . I dont even remember what the stock MDC & MDL setups felt like.
I don't like that it locked up something so that triangle away doesn't work anymore and flashing chainfire's root through PC Odin causes the system counter to read custom. Hopefully those issues will get fixed. I want to say battery life is better but I haven't had enough time with it to get a definitive answer. Then again, after rooting, I froze a $hit ton of bloat with titanium backup as usual.

Warmth is normal during charging, but if it is almost too hot to hold there is a problem. I'm on MDL and other than slight warmth during charging my phone NEVER heats up. My S3 would get hot/warm even with light usage but my S4 never does.

Coming here to see what this note 3 is about :)

For the ones who know me, I had a note 1 and note 2 for AT&T. I've done my little share or Rom development and theming apps...
So anyone who knows me..what's up guys....Looks like we need alot of work here I take it?
Hey. I remember you in the 2 forums. Yeah it's dead over here but there's a thread in general that kinda let's us flash roms. Someone just verified it working and starting to dig deeper into it to maybe get us some roms made up. Check the thread out.
And if you are running mi9 then root with dlv and disable your update cause once you are on mj5 you can't go back as it stands right now. It will auto update if you wait to long

It's funny that you mention it, just today we discovered that it is possible to flash custom ROMs. If you're on MJ5 and something goes wrong, you won't be able to un-brick your device. However if you're running an earlier firmware you can use Odin to re-flash stock. Can't wait to wipe this TouchJizz off the face of the earth, just waiting for that MJ5 Odin. :good:

Once your on Mj5 as of right now the most you can do is Root and theme. im Hoping we can get a Odin Package for MJ5 soon so we dont have to worry about bricks and we can start testing more things with out worrying about not being able to recover.
true..root ,theme and debloat ....You would think.after debloating this rom. And using sd read/write values that would increase a decent amount for such a early development.
Is phone sure loves to use alot of stock ram for some reason..

Yeah I hear you, I want to see custom recovery before I go all out on this, definitely need nandroid as a safety net. Luckily this phone is badass stock so I'm pretty content at the moment.
RoloRacer on Note 3 N900A
Hello all.
Im new to the note 3... but not to xda. I dont post much at all. However I do have a rooted skyrocket and give all credit to Vincom. I still read through his threads regularly. I got the s2 when it was the flagship and now ive upped the grade to the next one. I think its wrong of the manufacturer and carrier to charge us a boatload for this device and chain it to the dock so to speak. It seems there is some experience in this thread so I will be checking in often. I also had the mj5 update sneek in before I knew what happened and it does seem that we are all leary of the dread 600$ brick. Thanks to all who dare. You are my hero (s).

I'm on Mj5 and I rooted with Kingo...
I cant post links to it per xda rules but if you google it you'll find it...I haven't had any issues .
You can use "wanan" app and "exposed framework" app to theme and some decent mods.

Note 3 help

Hello! I have a note 3 and in enough time my phone will boot then go to the at&t logo then just sit there for ~5~ min or even more...then sometimes will go back to the Samsung thing back to At&T logo and give it enough time and hard rest but it comes back and I have my phone again. Pain....in..my..ass
The solution: factory reset...but I hate doing this because I'm doing it repeatly now...
Has anyone else has this problem or have any advice for me?
Edit: Does anyone know anyone willing to trade a Note 3 AT&T for a SM-N9005? It has a glass screen protector and a aluminium home button.

What did you do to your phone? As in did you root it? Try to install a custom ROM? A custom recovery? Anything like that? You can odin back to stock from Root De La Vega from what I understand. I don't see anybody trading their phone for a broken one. You can't even trade here on XDA, you have to use Swappa or something else.
I added xposed and some apps the ones I am using are
Call recording
Gravity Box
Wanam
I can't install any custom Roms bootloader is still locked :/
So I fixed it by just factory resting everything. So my point on posting this is to see if anybody has this problem. The phone isn't broken it in perfect condition. I just don't know how much longer I can take without an unlocked bootloader.
If you wanted I could screenshot of what apps are using root?

Try taking your SD card out and then see if you still have the long boot or loop issue. Some phones are having issue reading certain brand SD cards and it id causing long boots or other strange problems..
Interesting....how old school lol
I'll try that

Just curious what (security hacks & advance mods) settings did you use in wanan?
when you got your note 3...You didnt carry over your sd card with anything on it did you from prior device? Or use titanium backup?
Id try to trouble shoot it this way...Disable wanan...reboot see If it does it again....If so, start with the other app and disable or unistall.....Keep trying you'll find the source
Gravity Box is not to be used with Note 3 ROM. I know things work with it but the OP says not to use on TouchWiz roms. Or I might be wrong..

I had the same issue I guess it coz of Gravity Box, it is advised not to use Gravity Box on Note 3 Touch Wiz I removed it and never faced the Boot Loop or System UI Stopped working since then.
