htc one giving us problems at every step - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so my buddy and i were trying to root his htc one, ive rooted various phones before and most recently my gs3, he just got an htc one from at&t and wanted to root it.
so we are follow the tut that is in the sticky, and right away his pc was not liking the phone, having issues reading it etc etc, eventually have all the necessary drivers and such and unlocking the bootloader was a pain, but we did it, got twrp on there, installed supersu, and he does have root
so now the problem is he cannot drop any files onto his phone at all, usb debug on and off, nothing, the htc sync manager thing, tried on another computer nothing, he tried airdroid, that kinda worked but made the files smaller which of course made it unflashable
i have never had these problems before with my phone and all my searching as shone nothing about not being able to transfer files as apparently it should be able too...
he also cant get adb to work
any ideas?
edit: and now he went ahead and downloaded goo manager, installed a rom from its compatible list, xenon, and it just boot loops the splash screens, and now he cant even restore his original backups, but he can still get into twrp, and he can see the backups, just not in restore

Get into twrp and do side load download ...also download hasoons2000 toolkit

U can sideload a Rom into twrp with the toolkit from hasoon

alright, got one of his back ups running now thanks, ok2nvnexus
and what is that toolkit? the phones already rooted so would he need that?

[Q] Total Failure Installing ANY type of ROM

Originally, I started with just wanting to update the firmware on my phone because I read updating it to a newer version fixes the dreadful "low memory" bug, where the phone constantly thinks it has no internal memory left despite having plenty.
I tried updating the phone with Kies - says unsupported for updates. Tried updating the CSC, still couldn't get updates.
Then I thought, I always wanted to mod the phone but didn't have the time. I sat down to do it today, spent HOURS and HOURS on here following the guides and reading and I can't seem to get anywhere. Any ROM gives me a Status 7 failure when I try flash it and I notice that CWM doesn't boot up (just the default Android one). I can't even seem to get my phone to go into download mode for use Odin and put a new stock rom on it. And yes, I rooted the phone, deleted all the caches and data, tried unrooting it...nothing.
I read that maybe it's because I have a Koodo Samsung Galaxy Ace...and that it has a different ROM that can't be meddled with. I mean, the update software option under the Settings is even greyed out. It's hard for me to even follow the youtube guides when my phone isn't responding like the ones in the videos.
I'm literally going nuts. I've tried everything. Someone please help me.

You aren't able to boot in to downloading mode. So flashing stock via odin isn't possible that easily. You'll have to try Jtag or oneclickunbrick. But before that, are you atleast able to boot into recovery ? What version of cwm are you using ?

I actually managed to get the phone to go into Download mode this morning. I have Odin v. 3 on my computer, and right now I'm trying to flash CWM onto the phone. It keeps saying Setup Connection... for a long time then fails. I reinstalled my drivers... and the computer recognizes my phone.
I installed CMW through the google play app..I had the latest version (6) and tried using 5.2. The phone keeps booting back into Android recovery manager instead, even when I ask it to install a rom through the app.

It says in my phone (behind battery) the phone model is GTS5830D. Is this somehow different from any other GTS5830? People are saying to flash it with 2.3.6 firmware first, but the thing is, I can't flash it with anything. Everything I've tried to flash gives the Status 7 failure message.

Yes... S5830D does differ from S5830. In what way...? It doesn't matter now. Just go to the samsung service center & they'll fix it for you. But play dumb. Don't talk about roms, rooting, etc. Just say that it happened while updating via kies...
I used to have beautiful life before. Now I'm in engineering...!
Yeah, everything is pointing to this being impossible. It's not even a C/M/i model, just D which seems to have nothing behind it.
Guess that's why Koodo phones in Canada are so dirt cheap - some kind of weird, low-end international version of the regular phone. There isn't even updates on Kies for this model. The original ROM is still on the phone, so it works fine...but I know after a short time it will start getting really laggy and get the same 'low memory' message. I was hoping to improve the phone.
Odd. Mine is the 5830D and I had no problem rooting and flashing. I'm on my second custom ROM (maybe 3rd can't remember) .

Which roms did you use? Can you give me some links...
Hopefully someone with some insight on this Status 7 error shows up because I'm finding nothing useful on the forum or in google.
Update: I got CWM 5.2 to work, but I had to use the one for the 5830i model. Still get the installation errors though.
I have used Apocolypse and am currently on Democracy. The link for Democracy is normally in my signature, but since I'm on my cell I will have to see if I can find it. Both are excellent roms. I used unlock root to root mine, its pretty easy to use.

I'm with Koodo, have a straight old S5830. Bought it from them at the kiosk in my local mall. Currently running CM9.1 RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE. How were you flashing your stuff before you had issues? Via recovery or Odin?
How did you install CWM? I hope you flashed it from recovery.
DON'T TOUCH ROM MANAGER.
UPDATE: I'm sorry, I do have the GT-S5830D from Koodo. My ROM is for the S5830 though. It works fine.

Lolno. The d,l,m,b are similar because they are just nationality variants. i is an entirely different model. Nothing for the S5830i works with the S5830 properly. There is a reason that it has separate threads from the other variants.

[Q] Back to stock for Bell

I'm sorry for posting a n00b question, but I've honestly spent all day today, from about 8am to 730 pm (with a couple breaks in between) looking for the solution here.
I need to restore this phone to stock, but there seems to be no 100% solution to this that I can find.
I'm with Bell, I have S-On, rooted, HTCDev unlocked. I've flashed up to the Viper Rom and all is running great. But now this phone needs to be traded in.
I've downloaded the CWM Nandroid for Bell stock, but I can't for the life of me figure out where to put that file on my phone so CWM will detect it.
I'm a bit apprehensive to use the Cingular (AT&T) RUU. I figure this is the safest way to stock, but that will get me to AT&T factory stock and not Bell. If I go this route, is there an easy way to flash a stock Bell file to get it to Bell stock?
Those are the two solutions that I think is the easiest, but without being 100% solidly informed, I don't want to risk bricking this phone.
If anyone could pretty please give me a bit of help, I'd be eternally greatful
Thanks very much for reading.

first if you are not sure where to put the file in cwm just go into recovery and hit back up. by doing so a back up will be generated and after booting your phone up go into your file manager and look for clockworkmod folder and open it up and where you will find your backup created. here just put the stock nandroid back up folder or just copy all the content from nandroid back up and replace with the contents of back up created .as your just trading in ..

[Q] Safestrap and DynamicKat

Hey Guys,
I have been trying to install a custom rom for the first time with safestrap (never installed one without safestrap either as this is my first android phone). I chose DynamicKat but I've been having some problems. I tried to follow the directions in the DynamicKat thread but for some reason when I had to browse in safestrap to select the rom there were 2 dynamickat zip files. I know I only transferred one zip file to my sd card though. When I used my ES file explorer it also showed to files (one greyed out though) but the stock "my files app" only showed one. I picked one to install but it looked like I didn't have root access in it. Also, all my other apps (user and system apps) started reinstalling immidietly the same way as when I factory reset the phone. Is that supposed to happen? How do I get this rom properly installed? I ran a nandroid backup so at least I was able to restore to that. Anyway, any help will appreciated!
@ellie692. If you reply on the dynamic kat thread you will get good help from the dev that built the rom. I am running the same rom as well. I'm not sure why you would have two zips of the same rom, but the reason why the play store is reinstalling your previous apps is most likely because you have Google play set to sync and backup your apps. You can turn that off in the settings in Google play. As for root, you should have root, did you flash the supersu zip also at the same time that you flashed the rom, if not you need to. Then install root checker and you should show that you have root with that rom.

First thing is delete both Rom zips. Next make sure you have SuperSU and busybox installed. Install Root checker to make sure you're rooted.
Go back to dynamic kat and download the Rom zip when finished transfer the zip to external sd card.
Open SafeStrap app and boot to SafeStrap recovery and under advanced wipe wipe everything BUT ex sd card after that go to install and it should show the Rom zip select that then swipe to install. If it says successful then hit reboot system...wait for phone to boot if might take 5 minutes...when it boots set up as you would normally do.
Please please please do a lot more reading in the threads especially the SafeStrap thread it will save you a TON of flaming and very rude comments. When in doubt read some more. Good luck????

What he said, to make absolutely sure there isn't any error in data transfer, download the ROM *on* your phone (not download to PC and transfer); also make sure you follow all the steps outlined the in DynamicKat thread (for pre-req's to have installed prior to starting).
Also, make ABSOLUTELY sure that in SafeStrap you are loading DynamicKat into the stock ROM spot.
Updating apps on first boot is totally normal.
Again, as S5Freak stated, read read read read and when you are done reading all those threads, read some more. Read about different methods, different ROMs, crash recoveries, etc. Bricking your phone isn't worth the few hours(or days) saved by not reading.

[Q] Need help rooting Droid 4

My wife gave me her old droid 4. She had a problem with the sim card, and after a few trips to the verizon store they just said ok get a new phone. So i have this droid 4 just sitting here. When i turn it on its been wiped and wants to setup the phone. My question is from this state can it be rooted and loaded with a custom rom to just be more like a tablet for the kids or is it just a paperweight at this point?
Everything i read so far says in order to root the phone i have to do at least make sure the phone is in debugging mode, well since you cant even get to that from a normal boot up im wondering what the other options are. I tried using recovery to load things, but that just fails, and i got the droid dev kit to use adb, and that only will sideload an image, which also fails upon verification.
Any help would be awesome
